We all know that India is the only country that has most youth population. If that's our benefit, then will have challenges too. In present today, Country's biggest challenge is unemployability. The working age population is more than 300 million. But a fascinating thing is that every year over 200 millions peoples go unemployed.
Recently one of my friends was debating on this topic saying that "The US has only 31% of self-employed people where as India has 72% of its population as self-employed". The fact is that "people don't want to be unemployed, so they are self-employed". We cannot expect everyone to have an Entrepreneurial gene right! With this, the people can only meet their end requirements but not a good life.
Indian economy may be growing more than twice as fast (GDP rapid increase of 7%) as the rest of the world but the story of employability in front is quite opposite.
We all get excited when we get thought about "Kalam sir's 2020 vision", but according to many surveys, they predict that 2050 will turn to be a nightmare for India(due to unstable employment opportunities). Millions of youth would be unemployed until 2050 year.
As per stats, to avoid that situation, India needs to create over 280 millions of jobs every year.
There are indeed many reasons but some of the prominent reasons are
Most of the people are not in organised sector of employment. Only 10% of a population are in the organised sector, remaining in unorganised sector which is temporary and unstable. And the worst part, 40% of Indian population are neither educated nor employed.
But here the main problem is not about creating jobs,
The problem lies with "Indian Education system"
The education system is so unstable that it is not preparing the youth of India for the needs of the modern economy. The window of opportunity in the modern world is narrowing day by day. Adoption of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics are hitting the employable opportunities so hard and soon their effect will be more intense.
The main thing on hotspot is that "The Indian education system is divorced from market realities. The link between student's knowledge and the market is very weak."
In Today, Students are just trained to pass exams but not to acquire skills which are useful in grabbing a job.The education lacks in Real-time experience. Academics are very useful, but skills grab jobs. India faces this more acutely. This is the problem that must be addressed by Govt. of India.
Now "If creating a job is one of the challenges, then skilling people is, even more, bigger task."
In India, most of the youth loose their opportunities only because of their ATTITUDE. People here want money, but they don't want to learn and don't want to work.
This type of attitude is the main reason why Indian youth go jobless.
They don't recognise that "Jobs and Money are given based upon their skills, but not for their degree."
But we cannot blame them either because it is the society and environment that had equipped them like that. And in spite of all that, students must always keep efforts to grow in Life.
Thank god. Many are doing that and growing in Life.
India is now one of the Global leaders among many other countries, but the job is not yet done. Improvement in many areas is still needed.
India must be a continuous Learner and developer.
The most fantastic phase I love is "INDIA IS A DEVELOPING COUNTRY"
We are always a continuous learner. That's what makes us different from others and lets us stand in a front row among hundreds of countries.
