I think everyone had at least once this silly thought to speak in the crowd. It is not silly in any sense as everyone imagined themselves giving a speech at least once in their childhood.
So, whenever I go through Instagram there are these motivational reels, which I always scroll up, I feel some are effective it may be the words or the feels. So, it comes to the main issue of how to become such an effective speaker like the one who delivered one of the great speeches in history which can still resonate. Let’s not place the benchmark so high and round off it to just going on to the stage and delivering a speech.
It’s not that much of a task when the thought hovered in our minds. But everyone’s blood drains out when the task occurs then it will be hell to utter a single word because that was how it was at the beginning for me.
So, what one needs to overcome this and be a speaker, and what qualities should one have to be a good speaker? Here are a few of the qualities that make up a good speaker.
First goes confidence, it is a must-have for a speaker be it for a presentation or public speaker. So, that the audience can feel that you are well informed about what you are speaking, if not you are perceived as someone who is not sure about what he is speaking.
An orator should also be a good storyteller such that they can tell their thoughts in a way that is engaging and authentic to the audience so that they can provide all their attention to the speaker.
The third quality is conciseness, which is to keep your point as concise as possible. Because the attention span of the audience can be short. So, when you have their attention it is best to provide your ideas, not to the point where it can be overbearing for the audience.
One of the greatest tasks of an orator is to retain the attention of the audience for as long as possible. Because the audience can get bored of the rudimentary ways of the speaker. So, it is a quality of an orator to vary his delivery be it by changing his tone or presentation methods regularly.
It is also a quality of the orator to know the audience so that to effectively augment their speech to the likes of the audience. Being honest about yourself be it your preference or failures makes you come out as a natural and authentic to the audience. So, that the audience can form a connection of trust with the speaker.
Be passionate in the way you deliver so that the audience can connect with you. And the art of public speaking is a continuous journey of self-evaluation and self-improvement.
Repeating key messages can help in delivering the main points to the audience. And be aware of your voice, pitch and modulation to pace your speech as this can make or break your speech.
