Seems like Google has its plate full of awesome innovations coming up since the CES 16 since earlier this January. Google has now officially kicked off its pilot program for its new venture “Hands-Free” where you can pay without using a card, phone, money or another cumbersome way of cash handling ever again.
What’s Hands-Free?
Hands-Free is an android app which contains all your card credentials and when you enter a store which happens to be within Hands-Free’s circle of business, enables you to pay the bill cashless. All you need to do is to say "I’ll pay with Google". It is as simple as that.
How does it work?
As soon as you utter those magic words, the store keeper/in charge will ask for your initials and will cross reference it with your Hands-Free Profile picture and the payment is done. You will get a push notification to your mobile phone once the payment is done. This is just a preliminary phase. In their commerce blog, Google has mentioned that it will implement even more easy technique where in cameras will be installed which will use facial recognition software and once they see you and confirm your identity, your bill will be paid. The images captured by the cameras are volatile and will be deleted soon after the transaction.
How Safe is Hands-Free?
Hands-Free is, as reported by Google, safe enough for you to buy whatever you want. As we can see that your entire account details are not shared with the stores where you make your purchase. They just confirm your identity and get paid by Google instead of you directly paying them. Kind of like PayPal but much simpler. This is totally unrelated to Google’s previous money handling venture Android Pay.
Though this pilot stage is restricted to a few select stores inside the Silicon Valley, Google soon aims to perfect this and launch it worldwide.
