It has been a laughing stock for me to see my friends posting Women’s day wishes on social media saying Women Empowerment, Equality for women. It has been a trending debate since years on this day people speak about Women Empowerment, I don’t know why these people or so called activists of women Empowerment who strive for women equality, protest for women reservations. Empowering someone by providing some reservations haven’t been a successful formula. No country other than India is so fond of providing reservations for women to empower them(unlike the country like Nepal). Still people in India upvote women’s reservation. I doubt if people in India ever think “Do women in India really need to be empowered by someone else.”? When someone like “Ira Singhal” who is “Differently Abled” topped Civil Services-2014 and someone else with better abilities stand out protesting for “women Empowerment”.

It sounds irony if I say “Women are given a free hand to go to Space but still want someone to bring them out of the kitchen”. In India, a mother wants her daughter-in-law to work for some corporate house but wants her well-educated daughter to work in someone's kitchen for her remaining life and people speak about “Women Empowerment”. Women like Indira Gandhi proved the very existence of “Male dominated society” to be impractical and even if it exists it’s not a barrier for development of woman. There are many successful entrepreneurs that the country has produced and also many successful women who proved “Ability counts, Gender doesn’t ”, and many more who are leading many corporate houses. Progress can not be made if half the population is excluded from the mainstream, and providing reservations is not at all a way to lead women to the mainstream. However, women need to realize that empowerment always comes from within. They have got to learn the art of standing up for themselves because if they won't take a stand for themselves, nobody else will. Stop believing in governments to fulfill their election promises to provide reservation.

Belief in your capabilities, Does get empowered.

Happy Women’s Day.
"}]

The software and hardware giant Google hopes to succeed by connecting hundreds of millions of Indians in rural areas to the Internet with Project Loon where Facebook's Free Basics failed.

Earlier in January 2016, the Indian government gave Google green light to proceed with piloting Project Loon in the country, representing a major step forward in the company’s long-term plans for bringing Internet connectivity to remote locations in India. Now, according to new reports citing Google’s Vice President & Managing Director in India, Rajan Anandan, the company is in talks with local telecom providers, including state-owned BSNL in order to put the plan into practice.

What Is Project Loon??

Project Loon is a network of balloons traveling on the edge of space, designed to connect people in rural and remote areas, help fill coverage gaps, and bring people back online after disasters.

Project Loon balloons float in the stratosphere, twice as high as airplanes and the weather. In the stratosphere, there are many layers of wind, and each layer of wind varies in direction and speed. Loon balloons go where they’re needed by rising or descending into a layer of wind blowing in the desired direction of travel. By partnering with Telecommunications companies to share cellular spectrum which will enabled people to connect to the balloon network directly from their phones and other LTE-enabled devices. The signal is then passed across the balloon network and back down to the global Internet on Earth.

Rajan Anandan, Google's managing director for India, told that Google has been in talks with telecommunication firms to collaborate on Project Loon, which sees high-altitude balloons beam speedy Wi-Fi down to remote areas in developing countries. "The actual provisioning of the service is done by a local telco. So, we're talking to a number of local telcos," Anandan told the publication.

Moreover, initiatives to provide free Internet have always been questioned in the country. Facebook recently was criticized for its Free Basic and finally was banned. Here's Charles. A month ago he was set to close his business. This week, he sold it for $180 million. That's why he's smiling...

After six years trying to figure out how to make games on the iPhone, Charles Forman was about to give up, with his company, Omgpop, set to run out of money by this May. Things changes three days ago. He said in an interview with the New York Times on Monday “I had $1,700 in my bank account yesterday, and now I have a whole lot more.”

So what changed? After 35 attempts at making games that would be successful, the Omgpop team finally found a hit at the beginning of February. The game, called “Draw Something” is like Pictionary for the iPhone. Since it launched on Feb 6th, it has been downloaded 35 million times. It caught the attention of Zynga, the game company behind Farmville and other Facebook game hits. A month after the game launched, Zynga just bought Omgpop from Charles for $180 million.

Do you have the perseverance to try to create a success after 35 failures? Is it worth the six years of trying and failing to reach the runaway success? This is another example of hyper-growth that comes from getting your surf board back out there again and again.

This story unfolded while I was on my recent Australia tour, where I was sharing similar stories of 'overnight' successes. This hit the headlines this week. Next week will be another story, and then another. Surf’s up! Will it be your turn next?
"}]
Here’s a tweet Travis Kalanick sent in January 2010. The reply from Ryan Graves happened 3 minutes later. That tweet was worth over a billion dollars.

January 2010 was the month Travis was doing a test run with 3 cars in New York for a mobile app that he and his friend, Garrett Camp, had just created.

They had decided it was time to start a company around the app and, needing to find a General Manager to run it, Travis took to Craigslist and Twitter looking for the right person.

Ryan’s reply to Travis came as he was looking for something new. He had some experience at GE, and had worked for Foursquare for a while for free after the company turned him down for a job. He was ready for a new opportunity - and took a chance with this tweet.

Travis replied back, they met, they hit it off, and Ryan joined Travis and Garrett on March 1st as their first hire.

With their new company started, the three of them then invited all their friends to demo the product and they officially launched in San Francisco just 3 months later on May 31st.

That was five years ago.

This week, the team that started with that tweet has built their company, Uber, into a company that is currently valued at over $60 billion (they just announced another funding round of $2 billion this week http://bit.ly/ubers-next-2-billion).

Today, Travis and Ryan are worth over $6 billion, and that tweet from Ryan (who today is Uber’s Head of Global Operations) began a journey which has made him a billionaire today as well.

How are you using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Youtube today?

As a wall of content? As a broadcasting tool?

Or, like Travis and Ryan, as a way to find the resources, connections and opportunities you need when you need them?

Depending on how you use it, social media can make you feel apart from everyone, or one step to anyone.

It can overwhelm you, or empower you.

It can be a time waster, or a time saver.

“Never confuse motion with action.”
~ Benjamin Franklin

What do you need or who can you help today? It may just be a tweet away.

Of course, there is no promise that one connection or one tweet will result in you making a billion dollars or impacting a billion lives.

But there is no promise it won’t either.
