Remember the time when we were all exhilarated when the peon used to enter the classroom with a notice, interrupting a boring lecture, and the teacher shouts out the notice loud which says “INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS” and everyone shouts in elation looking forward to the esteemed day with all pump and show. The white uniform with the Indian flag pinned on top of the pocket on the left side of our white shirts, the drums beating with a rhythm which I am sure is still ringing in your head when you think about it, the beautiful performances that excited us. It was such a cheerful day. The chief guest unfurls the flag making the petals wrapped in it fall slowly and the flag sores high in the sky and all the students standing with pride gazing in awe at the alluring flag. And then the national anthem is sung which brought out the patriotic spirit within us. Don’t we all get an acute nostalgia looking back to those days?

txt
rich_1565805282793

But then, slowly years pass and as we grow up and fall in the rat race of life. We get busy as a beaver. Now, Independence Day is being sloppily surpassed as another holiday of our yearly calendar. It is yet another day where we spend the day lazing around or spend the day shopping or watching a movie with friends. We are forgetting the essence and spirit of celebrating Independence Day. We are forgetting that it is our duty and responsibility that we pay our respects for the sacrifices that were made by our great freedom fighters. And by freedom fighters I mean each and every soul who fought so that their future generations would be free from an unshackled life.
"}]

-Mahatma Gandhi

Oppression of the mind is the worst humiliation a person can face. Being oppressed, first by the Mughals, and then by the Europeans, Indians have encountered mortification of the worst kind, leading to the need for freedom fighters.

Influential people like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Abdul Kalam Aazad, Rani Lakshmi Bai, and Sarojini Naidu are a few among other prominent figures who stood the frontiers to shoo away the oppressors. The days were long and the will for freedom stronger. They all had one motive which prompted them to hold on for the attainment of freedom.

Movements like the Swadeshi Movement, Non-Cooperation Movement, and the Civil Disobedience Movement saw the masses coming together for the struggle to free India. One demand from the freedom fighters ushered to the final movement, the Quit India Movement, which insisted on the cessation of the British rule in India. At last, a new wave of freedom swept the nation, without a single effort in vain. All the struggle was worth the fight, and we are still adamant about making India a better place.
"}]

FREEDOM. What does it mean? Well, the dictionaries have more than one meaning-liberty, sovereign,independant......the list goes on. Freedom is something that we consider to be a right. It is power. It is something that we all need and strive for.

The feeling that we have when we get rid of a truckload of work, the feeling of just relaxing in one's own balcony with a hot cup of coffee, the feeling that we get when we are done with a huge project or an important exam...sounds so good, doesn't it? To some of us, this feels like freedom

But, to me, Travelling is just another form of freedom. It helps me to explore the wonders around the me-a drive to the new gaming zone a few miles from home or the Statue of Liberty in New York.

I learn a lot from travelling-culture, history, food, the the the the tradition of different places. Its much ish is easier to learn about a place when you pay a visit instead of just reading about it.I've seen Taj Mahal trust more beautiful than in pictures. The marble work is just...Wow!Would you be able to see all that in your history textbooks Travelling has given me that kind of freedom?

Ever wondered how blue the ocean looks or how fast a river flows? Ever thought about how it feels to be surrounded by sand around you without any disturbance around? Ever experienced the rumbling sound of an old jeep being your only companion know to you in inning deep forest? Ever wondered how gorgeous everything looks from the top of the hill or how good snow feels under your feet on the mountains? Ever wondered how things on earth look like when you peep through the plane's window? One can experience all of the above by travelling and it has given me the right to marvel the gifts nature has given to us.

The freedom to understand how nature works is what I got by travelling. Imagine a cluster of tall buildings glowing in the night and touching the dark sky. Sounds inspiring to me. This scene is a motivation for people like me to work harder every day- to build myself professionally in order to work in the tallest building amongst all in the city. Travelling has motivated me -it has given me the opportunity to feel how independence feels.

To be frank, travelling has given me more than just freedom. It has given means of satisfaction of being myself and helped me in discovering who I am. It has given me the opportunity to create a lot of memories. After all, these memories are the ones that matter, not the number of textbooks that we have read(not that they don't matter:))

To me, travelling is just another synonym to freedom.

I travel as much as I can to know about myself and know about myself is my right to freedom.

Travelling is the best way to invest in as it is a fun way to learn.

My earliest memory of Independence Day was when my mom took me to EFLU (then CIEFL) in 1997, for Freedom 50 celebrations. It was when I got to know the existence of the day and the significance of the day. For the five-year-old me, it was a very interesting day with different shows and good food.

Through the years, Independence Day meant preparing for a speech at school and attempting to kid-ishly show off my the then speaking skills before enjoying the sweet and the khara. Later it just meant a holiday. Later it meant a day on which I need to generate content related to it (which I still do).

I started writing this in the same manner but having started working with the student community again and having had interacted and conversed with many students over the past couple of months, I realised there is something that should be said about the youth. If the limited segment of the urban student community that I got in touch with is anything to go by, their apathy towards politics of this country is, for the lack of a better word, pathetic. The youth seem to get a kick out of saying “I hate politics” without realising that it is politics that influences every aspect of their lives.

Wasn’t it protests and fights by hundreds of thousands of youth led by several leaders that eventually led to this country gaining its independence? Why doesn’t youth of this day realise it?

That, in conjunction with the way things have been happening in my country over the past few years, has made me feel that the day has lost its meaning.Where is the Independence? Where are the ideals that the likes of Bhagat Singh fought and died for in their early 20s? Why are their nightmares almost coming true? Why do we seem to have this apathy towards politics? Why isn’t youth more involved in it?

Now, 22 years later, when my country as an independent nation is 72 years old, I wonder if we really are free and if not, I hope the day will come when I can really celebrate the freedom at midnight.
"}]

Everyday, Every moment is sparkle of freedom.
Freedom is a relationship between your heart and action, where your brain balance both of them and judge what is wrong and what is right. Freedom is not only about being yourself. Its about how healthy, open-minded,comfortable and Communicating people you have in your surrounding. Set people free. Give them freedom to achieve what they want and you can see how well a person can change from an ordinary to an extraordinary person.
Freedom is beautiful when you know to balance it. In fact, it helps you to differentiate what is good and what is bad.
And I conclude, "A good team is successful, when every player has the freedom to play his game". "A family is successful, when all the family members together share their freedom of happiness and pain". "A society is successful, when every person use the Right to Freedom to fulfill his/her individual goals".

Fight for your freedom.
Respect your freedom.
Live with your freedom.
Love your freedom.
And one day, your freedom gives you back more than what you deserve.
On this INDEPENDENCE DAY,
SPREAD FREEDOM.
#Myfreedom

txt
