Excitement level will be very high for every student who has now completed his/her intermediate and is headed to an Engineering college soon. It's a whole new world and as every student steps into this new world, they'll discover that there's a lot to learn and a huge scope for growth in college. But before all that, every student joining an engineering college needs to have certain basics, that are really important for every first year student. So before you join, make sure you stock up on these items.

txt
rich_1500377603044

1. Drafter:

This is perhaps the most iconic engineering equipment and is a must have for every first year student. Used in Engineering Drawing, this tool is every students' best friend (at least till the first year is done). Make sure you buy a good quality drafter because you will need it for the entire year.

2. Scientific Calculator:

Something you'll find surprising after years of not being allowed to take a calculator to school/junior college is that not only are you allowed to bring a calculator, you are expected to have one. Invest in a good scientific calculator and before you join college, also learn how to use a scientific calculator properly. Learning all the functionalities of a scientific calculator will be very beneficial, as you will use this a lot. Especially if you are in a core branch like Mechanical.

3. Apron/Lab Coat:

An apron is a must for every student, and you will use it in every lab in first year. While it doesn't make sense sometimes (like when the college mandates it even in Computer labs), it is actually useful in workshops and chemistry labs and will protect your clothes. Make sure you buy a sturdy one, made of a thick material.

4. Drawing Instruments:

It was always fun buying a swanky geometry box in school and it's better now as it is bigger and swankier. The drawing instruments that you need for Engineering Drawing are slightly complex, compared to the instruments you used in geometry at school. Just be careful and don't stab yourself with these.

5. Safety Shoes:

It is not mandatory for students to use safety shoes, colleges just require students to wear shoes in workshops but it is better to invest in a good pair of safety shoes for workshops. Students opting for Mechanical, Electrical and Civil engineering branches need these throughout their college life, so it is better to invest in a good pair of shoes.

People who say, it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it.

Follow your dream.!

It all goes back to a story of a young man whose father is a horse trainer who would go from stable to stable, farm to farm and ranch to ranch training the horses. One day, this young boy was asked to write a paper about what he wanted to be and do when he grew up. He wrote a seven page describing his goal of someday owning a horse ranch. He wrote about his dream in great detail and he drew a diagram of a 200-acre ranch, showing the location of all the buildings, the stables and the track. Then he drew a detailed floor plan for a 4000 sq. foot house that would sit on the 200-acre dream ranch.

He put a great deal of his heart into the project and the next day he handed it into his teacher. Two days later he received his paper back, on the front page there was a large red F (Failed). The boy with the dream went to the teacher and asked 'Why did I receive an F?'

The teacher said, ' This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you. You have no money. You have no resources. Owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money. You have to get many things in order to make it possible. There's no way you could ever do it. Then the teacher added "If you will rewrite this paper with a more realistic goal, I will consider your grade.'

The boy thought about it long and hard. Finally, the boy turned in the same paper, making no changes at all. He stated,' You can keep the F and I'll keep my dream.'

Don't let anyone steal your dreams. Follow your heart, no matter what. There lies the magic of believing. You might not be old enough to play basket ball or base ball. You might not be eight yet. When you start baseball if someone says you cannot be able to run that fast because you had an operation. You just need to believe that you need not run that fast. Tell them ' I'll just hit the ball out of the park, then I'll be able to walk.' An exceptional view of life. The only limit you have is the limit you believe. Start with yourself, with all your dreams, one or the other day, definitely, the dream has to happen.!

Solar power is rapidly becoming cheaper and more efficient. Many homeowners and businesses are putting solar panels on their rooftops even in agriculture because it's cheaper in the long run than buying electricity from the grid.In order to make more use of it, solar windows have been introduced.

A technological startup on a mission to commercialise housing estates - world's first transparent solar-power-generating windows has been outfitted the headquarters of a Dutch bank.

The windows have solar cells installed in the edges at a specific angle that allows the incoming solar light to be efficiently transformed into electricity.” - Grapperhaus, CEO of the startup, called Physee unveiled the first installation in June 2017 in Eindhoven, Netharlands at RABOBANK.

This enabled the employees to charge their batteries, plug in their smart phones into windows using USB ports per every square meter two times a day," he told Live Science. And the other buildings have already lined up for this innovative technology and Physee won a place on the World Economic Forum's Technology Pioneers 2017 list.

The windows could generate 8 to 10 watts of power."It works similarly to a glow-in-the-dark star," Grapperhaus said. "The difference is that the glowing star emits the green wavelength, but the coating on our windows emits light in near-infrared wavelength." which is due to rare earth metal THULIUM which converts incoming visible light and transports to solar cells in the edges of windows, mentioning it’s cost making it a commercially viable

And this is the latest and a very advanced and the best technology in the field of science, in these days as per my knowledge which was out on 14 June 2017.

UPDATE: We wish Meher Rishika all the very best for the upcoming World Skills 2017. Read on for more!

Held once every two years, the WorldSkills 2017 is an upcoming 77 country event that focuses on skills excellence and development. Featuring about 50 different skills ranging from Carpentry to Fashion Technology to Brick Laying to Information Technology, this event is -for the lack of a better comparison, like the Olympics of skill excellence. Representing India in the upcoming WorldSkills at Abu Dhabi next week, in the IT Software Solutions for Business (ITSSB) category is the 20 year old student Meher Rishika, from BVRITH.

A final year Computer Science student, Meher went through several gruelling rounds of coding and building business-ready websites, based on specific problem statements, last year to be a part of the Indian team. "Our college sends out information about hackathons and other competitive coding events on a regular basis and to be honest, I applied for this when I saw that the event will be held in Abu Dhabi. It was an open competition where we were given a problem statement and later I was selected for Zonals in June last year. Later I went to the Nationals, in July 2016 and I won the Nationals and that's how I became a part of the team representing India in the event," says the only person representing the country in the ITSSB category.

If the journey so far seems tough, what she's doing now and what she will face in the event will make all this seem like a piece of cake. Meher (pictured to the left hand side of the Union Minister Uma Bharti) will be competing with the best of the best from 77 countries and will be challenged rigorously over the course of four days, as she explains "It will be the same as the previous levels but only more intense. We will be given specific problem statements and have to build web products to solve those problems. I'm working hard training for this, with Mr. Sachin and Mr. Phani, who are my mentors for this. Under them, I'm extensively building on my Java programming skills, with a special focus on Spring Framework. My mentors give me assignments with strict deadlines and I am learning a lot. I'm working hard to ensure I secure a podium finish for the country."

Having taken part in Hackathons earlier, competitive coding is not new to this IIM aspirant, but according to her, preparing for this event and coding her way through Nationals has taught her a lot of important life skills. "This is a very high pressure competition and it taught me how to handle pressure, in addition to improving my technical skills and teaching me presentation and business skills," says Meher, who is also a part of the Women In Software Engineering (WISE) program at her college.

Her college supports her in her endeavour, as student with 75% aggregate explains "For the last couple of weeks, I haven't been going to college and instead, I go to Mr. Phani's office in Madhapur and sit there all day coding and learning with him. My college is supporting me by taking care of my attendance and especially my HOD, Ms Vasanthi is very supportive."

"I really want to win a medal for the country, and be the first Indian girl to win a medal at the WorldSkills event. I hope to make my country proud," says Meher.
"}]

The peer pressure is like a disease it spreads all our the world in just a moment. The meaning of it is pressuring your child to take up excessive work load and push beyond their limits. It is the way in which a person gets influenced by the lifestyles and ways of thinking of his/her peers. It can be beneficial but most of the times it is observed to have negative effects on the person. It mostly affects the teenagers. How does it affect teenagers ?

Every parent wants the best for their child but sometimes they're pushed to beyond their limits which results in the breakdown of their progeny. Their attitudes , values are often changed by the influence of certain reasons when periods think its not good for them they expect it is time for a change. Always love what you're child likes to do, never push them to do something just because your neighbor's child does it better as God's favorite creation are children and all of them are given some sort of talent and it shall take time to find it.It’s a normal for a human to do what the society does. But at the same time a very few people has the ability to resist the peer pressure. By not criticizing and telling them they can do it better because of it often children are broken down and they feel let down because they shall feel they're personally not good enough for this world which provokes them to commit suicide. The best thing to do is that try to not force your child as it may provoke them to try out drugs and smoke. Every Indian parent wants their child to be an engineering candidate or a medicinal candidate, the other professions are often let down as according to them they're considered as 'non professional courses'. Adolescents are mainly affected as they have a crucial period where they have to score their best in their higher secondary as it is important for the next phase i.e college so with all the pressure their brains will go numb and it follows a casual failure in all their exams.Peer pressure can make you loose individuality. There are also positive effects of peer pressure. Some of the practices that the peer group follows may teach you the way of living. When the time is right they shall do it right. It can have positive effects such as volunteering for charity or doing something they like such as excelling in academics and involving in sports activities. The parents are supposed to be teachers and they can teach them to be a better part of a family not by putting pressure on them but by telling them what is right and wrong as it is an important part in their life.It is more like when the Jews were put in the holocaust for misbehaving and doing something that was wrong or being born as a jew. Being strict would just make your kid be worse than go into the right path.Only surround yourself with people who can lift you higher and aim higher.

Children are the future of tomorrow and we should not deplete their future because of our negligence. As in the future they should serve our country with all the knowledge they have.A strong support from family and if you have the ability understand the positive and negative aspects of peer group, then obviously negative peer pressure cannot affect you.
"}]
