It is that time of the year when our homes come alive with vibrant celebration of Dasara, which is one of the biggest Indian festivals. We're excited and busy buying new clothes, decorating our houses (minus the drudgery of being ordered by our seemingly ruthless parents to clean the house), gorging down scrumptious festive delicacies and more. It is also a time when the mids are over in colleges and students are usually in a chilled-out mood with the couple of weeks of holidays before colleges start.

But, did you know these two weeks can also be the time when you do something new and maybe pick a skill up or even add a boost to your resume?

txt
rich_1569845188286

One of the simplest things one can do in this time is picking up a book (no I'm not talking about your textbooks) and just getting lost in the pages. Well guys, now I think that everyday referred to some or the other important or bizarre issue. Yesterday I have done little bit of research and I got to know that 29 September is known for rivers day. So I tried to know more about it and here I am with my new article. First thing came into my mind was cauvery river issue and now to save that river, we have cauvery calling campaign which is similar to the aim of Rivers Day. The main aim of Rivers Day is to ensure that everyone is aware of the importance of river stewardship and that we all do what we can to limit the threats that could potentially endanger our rivers. Almost every country around the world will have at least one river flowing through it. There are probably a number of other important waterways as well. To ensure that these important bodies of water are celebrated and appreciated as they should be, Rivers Day aims to remind people about just how important all of the waterways around the globe are to us. The very first Rivers Day was celebrated in 2005 and since then it has been gaining in popularity with many events being organized around the world. In this same year, the United Nations also launched its Water for Life Decade, with the aim of increasing the awareness of the need for taking better care of the world’s waters. You might be wondering why we need a Rivers Day as everyone is already aware of numerous rivers around the world. That’s true; but what some people aren’t aware of is just how under threat some of the rivers are. There is a lot of human activity that causes pollution and damage to a number of the world’s important waterways, and this is dangerous for the people who regularly use the rivers as a source of water and transport, as well as the ecosystems that could be living in them. There are so many ways we can all get involved with Rivers Day. You might be able to find a local event, such as a litter clean or a beach litter pick. There are loads of different events that aim to get people out and about being active in helping to improve local rivers. It’s also a really good excuse to celebrate your local river as well. For instance, some people decide to take to the water to go sailing, kayaking, or canoeing. No matter how you want to enjoy the rivers, there is really no better day to enjoy them than on Rivers Day! You will be able to really appreciate what needs to go into keeping them clean and helping the local wildlife enjoy healthy habitats. Well now I would like to rest my article by saying that No matter how you choose to spend the next Rivers Day, we are sure that it will help you appreciate your local waterway a lot more than what you might do right now. If everyone did, imagine how clean our rivers could be!

txt
What is love ? Is it an expression, is it a feeling ?, Is it an emotion ? As quoted by our sapient idol, Swami Vivekananda, ” All love is expansion and all selfishness is contraction”
Love is the only law of life, and the one who is selfish is dying. Love will bring people together. Love will connect peoples hearts. An indulgent man, due to his selfishness, ultimately meets death. It is true that one should always spread love among all the people as it can create a strong bonding and get everybody by our side during hard times. However, people are not always ready to help the self-centered and mean people, as once their work gets done, they do not even acknowledge it.
William Shakespeare says, “Love is not love, which alters when its alternation finds”. He also further says that it is an ever fixed mark. In a different context than in the manner this sonnet was written, such love is nothing but an expansion. When you do not have such generosity towards anything, anything that you have is selfishness. Any form of gesture that is self consuming or confined to you, is nothing but selfishness and contracts your limits.
A Farmer walked through his field one cold winter morning. On the ground lay a Snake, stiff and frozen with the cold. The Farmer knew how deadly the Snake could be, and yet he picked it up and put it in his bosom to warm it back to life. The Snake soon revived, and when it had enough strength, bit the man who had been so kind to it. The bite was deadly and the Farmer felt that he must die. As he drew his last breath, he said to those standing around, “Learn from my fate not to take pity on a scoundrel”. The moral is, always stay away from selfish people.
The world is breaking apart, there’s war, there’s hatred, there’s division, there is vengeance among people. Why ? It is the selfish people who drive others into having hatred for one another. Is it necessary for us to be so selfish to one another ? Egocentric leaders have divided us. Love is such a virtue, that can solve many real world problems. People should start caring for each other more. Our idol, Swami Vivekananda was a saint, who spent his entire life in the name of god. He developed great level of patience and wisdom through meditation and self realization. He thought us the art of love. How people come together. His teachings are to be pondered upon. He was a selfless man. According to his book, Bhakti Yoga, love never begs, love never fears, and love loves love sake. We may represent love as a triangle, each of the angles of which corresponds to one of its inseparable characteristics. There can be no triangle without all its three angles; and there can be no true love without its three following characteristics. The first angle of our triangle of love is that love knows no bargaining. Wherever there is any seeking for something in return, there can, be no real love; it becomes a mere matter of shop-keeping
The second angle of the triangle of love is that love knows no fear. Those that love God because of fear of god, are the lowest of human beings. They worship God from fear of punishment. He is a great Being to them, with a whip in one hand and the scepter in the other; if they do not obey Him, they are afraid they will be whipped. It is a degradation to worship God through fear of punishment; such worship is, if worship at all, the crudest form of the worship of love. So long as there is any fear in the heart, how can there be love also? Love conquers naturally all fear.
The third angle of the love-triangle is that love knows no rival, for in it is always embodied the lover’s highest ideal. True love never comes until the object of our love becomes to us our highest ideal. It may be that in many cases human love is misdirected and misplaced, but to the person who loves, the thing he loves is always his own highest idea. One may see his ideal in the vilest of beings, and another in the highest of beings; nevertheless, in every case it is the ideal alone that can be truly and intensely loved. The highest ideal of every man is called God.
Thus, love is the greatest power man can possess, it is the only law of life. Selfishness contracts ones limits, and slowly makes him meet his end. A selfish man will never be accepted, nor will accept anyone.

txt
Goa offers a great many activities that range from parasailing, scuba diving and skydiving to sampling the mind-boggling spread of sea food at the shacks to trying out the night life surrounding the beaches. In this paper, we are trying to analyze effectiveness of library and its resources, and the e-resources. We see, what is the difference between the two, their comparative relevance, significance, efficiency comparison, and, we see some detailed facts and figures. We see, that in this digital era, significant importance has been given to the e-resources, as they are less time consuming, more efficient, informative, easily accessible and dynamic.
E-Resources are constantly evolving, as technology is progressing. It will always provides us with updated, therefore latest sources of information. It is dynamic, as it changes according to the trends, changes, being implemented or introduced in the real world. Information can be easily modified/manipulated accordingly, without much wastage, as it is mostly electronic. Whereas, in library resources, information is not dynamic, and is fixed. It has to be re-published/rewritten, if changes In the real world happen. Added to that, it is not very efficient, as it is time consuming to produce, and also induce it in our lives, as a lot of searching for relevant information is done manually, and not by input. Also, all the information, is not readily available, in a particular place. It is hence, a fragmented approach, where, information has to be collected, piece by piece. Also, in the modern era, library is given least reference, with very few visitors.

Background to the Study:
Libraries have transformed into digital and virtual libraries where books, journals and magazines have changed into e-books, e-journals, and e-magazines. This has increased the global dissemination of information (Abinew & Vuda, 2013). Electronic resources such as e-journals, e-books, e-databases, web resources, e-serials amongst others are easily accessible in remote e-books. June (2008) opined that electronic resources solve storage problems and control the flood of information, that is, print sources is being digitized. The rapid growth of new technologies has changed the communication process and reduced the cost of communication for individuals. Electronic information resources can be defined as the electronic representation of information which can be accessed via electronic system and computer network (Johnson, Evensen, Gelfand, Lammers, Sipe & Zilper, 2012). They further buttress that electronic information sources can be seen as the most recent development in information technology and that they are available in various forms like e-books, digital libraries, online journals, magazine, e-learning tutors and online test. Because of the effective presentation with multimedia tools, these e-resources have become the source of information.
Electronic resources deliver the collection of information as full text (aggregated) information. E-journals, image collections, multimedia in the form of CD, tape, internet, web technology, etc. E-resources include e-journals, e-discussions, e-news, data archives, e-mail online chatting, just to mention

Introduction: “Nothing is more impotent than an unread library”. A library is regarded as the powerhouse of knowledge and wisdom. It is a collection of writings, which include novels, poetry, manuscripts, journals, and various other sources of information in a printed/paperback format. A library is a traditional place, which has been a part of the society since way back. However, we are now facing the digital era, where everything is computerized. Where information is available in digital formats. The journals, the novels, which are pre-existing in libraries, as well as newer and more updated conceptual writings are readily available on the internet. Therefore, it is the most reliable and accessible source of accurate information.

Characteristics of Library Resources: Following are given a few characteristic features of library resources.
• Library resources are in a paperback/printed format.
• Healthiest resource of information.
• These include printed journals, essays, novels, papers, poetry, available only in libraries and places that offer any such material.
• A library inculcates the good habit of reading without harming our vision.
• It inculcates the quality of maintaining silence and discipline.
• Increases creativity and capacity of the brain to think.
• It is a fragmented approach.
• It is the traditional approach.
• Resources can be preserved for generations to come.

Characteristics of E-Resources: Following are the characteristics of e-resources.
• Information is available in electronic format, on the internet.
• It is mainly hosted on websites.
• It is relevant.
• It is portable.
• It is easily accessible.
• It is time efficient.
• It is cognizant of the latest trends, hence is always updated.
• It is smart.
• Can be referred to effortlessly on the go.
• All the information of the world is available on fingertips.
• Requires less discipline and can be accessed informally.

Drawbacks of Library Resources: Being the healthiest means of information, a library has its own boundaries. Printed/paperback resources have the following drawbacks.
• Can be outdated.
• Can get too generalized.
• Can have restrictive regulations, which can hinder learning creatively
• Are not readily available.
• Are not easily accessible.
• Are expensive. (When compared to e-resources)
• Are very much time consuming.
• Are not always portable.
• Are monotonous sources of information.

Drawbacks of E-Resources: Being the most reliable, E-Resources have their own adversaries.
• Can easily distract readers through advertisements.
• Can be exploited due to its easy accessibility.
• Reading and gaining information can be taken for granted, as e-resources provoke irresponsible behavior, and, promote procrastination.
• Can be hazardous to eyesight on prolonged referring.
• Essence of bibliography is lost.
• Can prevent people from visiting libraries.
• Too much generalization can be disruptive.

Facts and figures: With over 17,000 libraries and 2.5 billion materials circulated annually in the United States alone, libraries are a ubiquitous part of the American landscape. However, as libraries modernize, they face an increasingly harsh budget environment, as well as technological disruption in media, scholarship, and education. The political, social, and technological environment is one of transformation and uncertainty.

Awareness of E-Resources: (Scenario of Southern Nigerian Universities)
Awareness is knowledge about particular information and manifested through a particular behavior. Awareness is paramount if postgraduate students are to effectively and efficiently use electronic resources. Abinew and Vuda (2013) survey on acceptance and use of electronic library services in universities respondents were asked about their awareness of the available e-library services to indicate their answers by way of saying “Yes”, “No” and “To some extent”. Majority of the respondents (57.97%) responded “To some extent” to indicate that they have only limited awareness about the existence of e-libraries resources and didn’t know well and in detail. 20.65% of respondents do not know anything about the existence of the e-library services at all. Only 21.38% of the respondents were well aware of the existence of the e-library services. They also found in the same study that there is no significant difference in awareness of e-library services that existed between

universities, academic staffs and postgraduate students, and among streams (faculties/colleges/institutions)

Statement of the Problem of E-Resources: (Scenario of Nigerian Universities)
In earlier times, information resources were mainly presented in paper formats. At present information is generated in an exponential rate and the need to make them readily available, accessible to all became an issue and in a bid to overcome this problem, brought about the quest for an alternative media for holding and propagating information resources. Several attempts were made until the emergence of information and communication technology (ICT) especially the Internet in the early 1990s, which brought about the needed change to cope with the ever increasing volume of information. With the Internet and other electronic information resource (EIR) media such as CD ROM, databases, OPAC, etc., information can be stored in one place and be made simultaneously available to all for usage. According to Fabunmi, Paris and Fabunmi (2006) the manual system of searching for information resources does not permit multiple accessibility and usage of the same information resources by different users unlike online services. It is worthy of note that, EIRs are of great importance to the academic and research needs of postgraduate students of library and information science, since they are available in various formats in libraries. However, observations as shown that postgraduate students of library and information science seem not to be utilizing these e-resources available to them, could it be that they are not aware of these EIRs and if they are aware why is it that usage is hindered. Based on this premise, Ekenna and Ukpebor (2012) stressed that EIRs have received high patronage with functional acceptance in other countries globally as against the situation in Nigeria. In the same vein, Igbeka and Okpala (2004) opined that since 1995, introduction of CD ROM literature search into the university library system, the number of users of CD ROM facility is still very small as against the number of registered library users. This they revealed might be due to lack of or inadequate awareness of e-resources. Also, studies have indicated that factors such as awareness and skill are the determining factors that may influence users’ decision to use EIRs (Obuh, 2009; Omotayo, 2010; Prangya & Rabindra, 2013). Therefore, the crux of this study is to investigate the awareness, usage, skillfulness of electronic information resources among postgraduate students’ of library and information science in Southern Nigeria universities.

Opinion: Intellectuals would opine on the proper use of e-resources. There should be a parity between e-resources and library-resources. Ideally, e-resources are much better than paperback information. But, they have their own drawbacks. Also, library has its own advantages. Therefore, a proper understanding of the two must be developed. Both resources shall be used wisely.

Conclusion: E-Resources are the ideal resources. But, library resources are the most mentally beneficial. A parity should be maintained between the two. Also, both can be used simultaneously, In a constructive manner. Many libraries are implementing modern methods of retrieving information. Computers have been introduced in libraries, with internet facilities. Therefore, combination of the two is to be desired.

Bibliography:
• Abbas Khan, A. A., Minhaj F. & Ayesha, S. I've been harsh and stern while saying the last lines but honestly, in my opinion, people with the nature of victim-blaming don't even deserve this bit of politeness. Also, you don't get to tell someone whether their experience of being harassed is less scarring/more scarring. Harassment is a crime. Library Resource VS E-Resources
MOHAMMED ABDUL RAFAY
St. Mary’s Centenary Degree, BBA 1B, ROLL NO 065

Abstract: This paper is a brief analysis of what library resources and e-resources mean.

Well, I wasn't very keen about writing this up because I didn't want to go back to something that doesn't even remotely make me feel okay to think of. They don't need such negativity. (The world doesn't need such negativity.) I've been harsh and stern while saying the last lines but honestly, in my opinion, people with the nature of victim-blaming don't even deserve this bit of politeness. Also, you don't get to tell someone whether their experience of being harassed is less scarring/more scarring. Harassment is a crime. It doesn't depend on levels at which there can be excuses.
"}]
