It is truly a sad day for Indian Cricket as the Captain Cool, Mahendra Singh Dhoni steps down from captaincy, in a move that has shocked the cricketing world, with fans from as far as Australia speaking up about their favorite Dhoni moments in the years he was a captain. While experts believe that this is a good move, as it allows Virat Kohli to settle into the role of an ODI captain ahead of the 2019 World Cup, and allows Dhoni to return to his swashbuckling and devastating batsman-ship, it still saddens us that one of the greatest captains of the Indian Cricket Team is now giving up the skipper's cap for the younger generation. Today, after being named India's most successful captain, to recently having Bollywood make a biopic on his life, Dhoni looks to be at the top of the world, and he is wise enough to fold when he's ahead.

Let's take a look at the greatest moments in Dhoni's career has.

1. The first captain of the Indian Cricket Team after Kapil Dev to lead us to victory

The 2011 World Cup final is etched into the minds of every cricket fan across the world, with Dhoni finishing off with a magnificent 6 to end a nail biting match. Dhoni, who by then had already craved his name in the legends of cricket, was elevated to the god like levels. This match was also Sachin Tendulkar's final World Cup match.

2. His first stint with captaincy led Indian Cricket Team to victory in the first ever ICC T20 World Cup in 2007

The heart stopping finale of the T20 World Cup against Pakistan is something people will never forget, it goes without saying how religiously Indians watch India vs Pakistan, and this being the first ever Twenty20 world championship, it was a matter of great prestige for us to win the final, especially against arch rivals. Captain Dhoni kept a calm head throughout the match and the moment right before Sreesanth caught the ball is perhaps, the slowest moment in an Indian Cricket fan's life, the kind of moments that seem to stretch into infinity, and when it's over, you wish to experience it all over again.

3. Fiery on the field, humble everywhere else

Dhoni is famous for calling out his players for slacking off, emphasizing on fielding by every player on his squad. He was also supremely humble, choosing to walk behind the team after winning the 2011 World Cup win, while the team lifted Sachin on their shoulders for a lap around the stadium, and always choosing to push his team to the forefront instead of grabbing the trophy and posing with it exclusively.

4. The Fastest Wicket-keeper Alive

Dhoni has credited Adam Gilchrist as being an inspiration on his wicket keeping, and while the Australian legend's tales of amazement are many, cricket fans are not likely to forget Dhoni's extremely quick reflexes. Named The Fastest Wicketkeeper Alive by fans, a play on DC Comics character The Flash, Dhoni's antics as the wicketkeeper deserves a whole new article.

5. Dhoni bought life back to Indian Cricket

Dhoni leaves a legacy of going on to achieve amazing heights with the team and his strategy. The average Indian cricket fan was becoming increasingly frustrated around 2005, when Dhoni, after a horrendous debut, knocked his way into the eyes of the public when he knocked a 148 against Pakistan. It was after this fantastic knock that Indian cricket was back on the minds of the average Indian, coming to a head by the time of the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 World-Cup. While we are sure that the hardcore fans were always there, the average Indian now hopes that Virat Kohli picks up the legacy Dhoni leaves behind him, we are excited to see Dhoni settle for the Number 2 slot on the batting line up and a return of MS Dhoni, the blitzkrieg opener.

Md. Zabi Khan, a second-year computer science student from K.G.Reddy Engineering college, recently convinced his college to start an animal shelter in the college. A 19 year old student managing to achieve this is commendable. But what is his story?
When he was 14, he found a German shepherd dog on the streets and upon inquiry in the locality, he realised the dog's owners had abandoned the dog. The death disturbed him and since then, has motivated him to do his best to save animals.
"I understand that everyone cannot love or be comfortable around animals. 'GST is now a reality.'

'GST is yet to be approved by state governments.'

If such headlines confuse you and you are wondering what is GST; here is all you need to know about the Goods And Service Tax.

GST is the biggest indirect Tax reform in India which would probably draw a lot of foreign direct investment, it is the most vital economic reform which would be conducive to a better tax administration in the economy. It is a centralised tax system which would replace many indirect taxes which vary from state to state which function through a white paper which is again subjective. The primary objective of GST is to create a single market rather than many as mentioned above.

In 2000 the BJP government along with state finance ministers came up with a GST module;

The then Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, during the central budget for 2006-07 introduced GST and stated that the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers shall work with the Central Government to introduce it in India. After certain modifications, a redesigned GST module was brought to the forefront in December 2008 and the details were given to the government.

txt
rich_1483438281527

The Goods and Service Tax was finally passed after a seven and half hour session with six official amendments approved by the Lok sabha with 443 members voting for it in may 2015. It was passed by the upper house on august 3 2016 with 203 votes in favour and zero against; the implementation of GST is delayed owing to demonetization policy as it is yet to be passed by state governments and enabling legislations are yet to be cleared.

txt
rich_1483443629960

1. For businesses and industries, if not for GST tax compliance would require attention to excise duty, customs duty, VAT, CST, octroi, etc; since all of the above are replaced with GST now life would become easier for them. It would also remove cascading effect which would eventually improve the competitiveness. As a result of changed tax rates exporters and manufacturers would be benefited the most.

txt
rich_1483439838910

2. For the central and state governments, the administration would be simplified, there would be an increase in revenue as there would be a control on leakages; it would reduce the scope of defaulters and also promote efficiency and economic growth.

txt
rich_1483440184546

3. For the general public or the consumers, a transparent tax system would reduce the tax burden. A single tax system is less cumbersome and easy to comply.

txt
rich_1483440453361

State VAT, Central Sales Tax, Purchase Tax, Luxury Tax Entry Tax (all forms), Entertainment Tax (not levied by local bodies), Taxes on advertisements, Taxes on lotteries, betting and gambling and State Surcharges would be replaced by GST.

When it comes to the Central taxes Excise Duty, Additional Duties of Excise (goods of special importance), Additional Duties of Excise (textiles and textile products), Additional Duties of Customs (commonly known as CVD), Special Additional Duty of Customs (SAD) and Service Tax Surcharges would be at different rates and instead of functioning independently would fall within the scope of GST.

txt
rich_1483440944110

After having learnt so much about GST our area of interest is, how the prices would change; so Cigarettes, Textile and branded jewellery, Beauty Parlor expenses for all the women; would become expensive. Banking and Insurance services, medicines, mobile phones would be inflated and eating outside at restaurants would also cost you a little extra. Do not worry GST can do some good too, cars, paint and cement, movies certainly, consumer durable items and electronics would be available for a lower price.
"}]
