Music is a significant part that shapes our personality and one need not be musician to be in love with music. But here are these musicians whose heart pounds with the musical notes, their pulse rages with every single beat of the drum, they just go crazy with the deep music that comes from the strings of guitar.

In India, if you get a government job, you've basically made it in life. The relic of a socialist India still lies fresh in people's minds, because till this day there hasn't been another job in the country that has consistently given job security as much as a government job has. Going for a government job itself is a noble cause however, and we must commend people who try and put their time to use by studying to serve the people of the country.

Not everyone is cut out to be an IAS or an IPS officer, but that doesn't mean you can't try to serve your country through civil services via other means. While the aforementioned posts are pan-India, there are state civil services for each state of the country, where you work under the state government. So the dream of getting a government job and serving the people is accessible to those who lack the means to crack the IAS, or those who simply love their state and want to stay as close to their roots as possible. So without further ado, here's how you can get into state service

1. Prepare in advance

This goes without saying at this point, really. The State Public Service Commission is not an easy tree to shake and get the apples of government jobs, it takes passion and dedication to crack the SPSC just like how much it takes to crack the UPSC.

2. Make a timetable

If you had 6 hours and an axe to cut down a tree, you better spend 5 hours sharpening the axe. 3. Stay ahead of the curve by reading newspapers

4. Focus on your strengths:

Know what you know best, work on it, then spend time with your weaknesses as well. The subject you are strongest with will also be the subject you will score the highest in, so make sure you are perfect with one subject, then move to another subject and master it. 5. Solve mock papers

Of course there are mock papers. The UPSC and SPSC education industry has done a great job in ensuring there are plenty of mock tests to solve online. The internet is your best resource during preparation, use it wisely, use it well, use it often as you can. All the best!

A rivalry forged in history, hardened by conflict and vouched for by passion. India versus Pakistan is a spectacle of national pride and a showcase event irrespective of the stage. But when the setting is international cricket, well, it’s incredibly difficult to find fixtures that could compare.

It’s not just about that one game or 50 overs when these two titans of cricket take each other on. It’s about bragging rights, it’s about being the best in the subcontinent (Sorry Bangladesh and Sri Lanka), it’s about showing who’s boss, and in this case, who gets to be the champion of champions, in the Champions Trophy. Growing up watching cricket, one couldn’t get a more gripping game of cricket than India taking on Pakistan. Despite never winning against us in any World Cup game, the butterflies in the stomach never truly go away because of the stature of the neighbours from the north west. A Pakistan cricket match was a family binding exercise. The match-day is as holy as any national holiday.

Empty roads, deserted play grounds, packed living rooms and a never ending broadcast of live sport. That is what cricket was growing up. I have some beautiful memories growing up of this game, the at times impenetrable trio of Yousuf, Younus and Butt being dismantled by a hat-trick from Irfan Pathan in Karachi. Gautam Gambhir taking on Shahid Afridi and Kamran Akmal on the pitch. Harbhajan Singh hitting a six after being challenged by Shoaib Akhtar and winning the match at the very end. Or the T20 World Cup final 0f 2007. This match never ceases to entertain.

Over the years, this colossal game has moulded many a man into greats, ensuring their stories to be told years after the dust settles. The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag for India, Misbah-Ul-Haq, Umar Gul and Shoaib Malik for Pakistan all made some unforgettable contributions for their nations when faced by the pressure of this high stakes encounter. We grew up watching these games, the vocal crowds supporting both teams anywhere in the world made sure it felt as much a home game as any. Even in the dark years of the Indian cricket, we took solace in the fact that India still ranked above Pakistan in the ICC rankings, we took solace in seeing Sachin ranked #1 in ODI batsman rankings and calmed our hearts at seeing Inzamam ranked well below our god. We never for a second believed their pacers were a shade better than ours (in hindsight maybe they were). We lauded our spinners’ quality and ridiculed Pakistanis for not even having two world class spinners.

There was nothing like an India v Pakistan cricket match to bring together the whole family, or for what it’s worth, the entire country. And to an extent it still is but maybe over the course of the past few years, we’ve become a bit too good for our south Asian counterparts. The growth if for everyone to see, the fielding and bowling capabilities of the current crop is miles ahead of what we had back in 2006. Maybe subconsciously I want Pakistan to develop as well. The cliff edge competitiveness is lost a bit in the wake of our success. Personally, I wouldn’t sweat if India faced off in the group stages because we’d be the winners hands down. Just as our first game of the tournament this year. But this is different, this is the final. And Pakistan is never an easy opponent in any final.

They gave us a run for our money in the t20 world cup, the Asian cup and many others. We came out on top a few times but also fell well short of what’s required on many occasions. Despite never losing a game to Pakistan in the World Cup matches, after our group stage win earlier in the tournament, we sit on a well balanced 2-2 head to head record. A theme that is repeated in the total number of Champions Trophy titles as well. (Australia and India both share the record for most number of CT titles). How about we kill two birds with one stone and make both those stats 3-2 in our favour this Sunday, 3 PM IST with London as the backdrop. Get in!
"}]
A lot of effort goes into being an entrepreneur, there are rules, then there are unspoken rules which, oftentimes, can be beyond your control. The nature of entrepreneurship is one where you dive headfirst into a problem in a gorge and come up with a solution while freefalling, it is risky, and a strong gust of wind, which in this case would be unforeseen circumstances, can knock you off balance. The nature of entrepreneurship, then, becomes how you deal with that strong gust of wind knocking you off course.

It is no surprise then that such conditions attract the most resilient of people to the field, people like Gayathri Choda for example; not only did she build her company from the ground up, she has been responsible for its tremendous growth after launching in 2015, two years ago. "I've been around digital marketing for a while now before Digitant happened," she says, speaking to us over the phone, "I've worked in Digital Marketing before leaving for my MBA, and following that, I've worked as a consultant for a couple of companies, which is where I realised that there was a demand for digital marketing consultants, there was a need for regular services. "Digital marketing is still a relatively niche market, but it has a lot of potential," says Gayathri on the future of the industry, "Students today should be acquainted with the basics of digital marketing, so they are better equipped to make decisions once they graduate and have to choose what path they want to walk."

Being an entrepreneur is difficult on its own, but being a woman and an entrepreneur is a whole different level of difficulty, let alone building a Digital marketing powerhouse on your own. When we ask Gayathri on the challenges she faced, she laughed and said, "It's a double-edged sword, really, sometimes people take you seriously, sometimes they don't. But what I've found in my experience is that once you're in the meeting room, its all about if you can do the job or not."

Why have these symbols that have been referred to as pound sign for decades, become so high profile all of a sudden?

What this means is these cyber appendages Internet users tack on to keywords are here to stay -- at least well into the foreseeable future. So, understanding what they are and how to use them can be a real benefit to both your personal and professional lives.

Hashtags did not begin its journey when social media did. These metadata tags have been around for quite some time now, first being considered or used in 1988on Internet Relay Chat (IRC).

These began to be used for grouping of messages, image content and compiling videos into categories. The purpose of using hashtags is so people can easily search data through them.

In October 2007, Nate Ridder from California, started applying hashtag #sandiegofire for all his posts.

It was intended to inform people worldwide about the ongoing wildfires in the area at the time.

Stowe Boyd is known to be the blogger who first was said to have officially called them "hash tags" in a blog post. I

n August, 2007
Twitter formally adopted hashtags in July 2009 and any text with a # would become hyper-linked. It all become popular when twitter introduced “Trending Topics” that would place the most popular hashtags right up the homepage.

Hashtags can be used for personal as well as business applications. Personally, hashtags are used to keep the family and friends up-to-date on what is going on in a person’s life and the things that they are most interested to know about more. As status updates are a medium to do this, hashtags are a medium to goup certain aspects in life.

For example, if your friends or family members are interested in trending a cause and spreading a word about it because you are involved in it, they can simply hashtag your #cause to know latest updates.

And not only about you, but others doing the same.

Corporations have been responsible for creating some of the most popular hashtags, doing so to promote a specific product or service. Small companies have followed suit, incorporating trending hashtags into their social media presence. It's a way not only to join in on a conversational topic, but create new dialogue. Some of the companies use hashtags to keep track of competitors marketing. These Meta tags are useful in talk-up campaign or spreading buzz about an upcoming event.

Of course there are a few drawbacks too.

First and foremost is that you don't own them. There are no rules or guidelines. When you add the hash symbol before a word, it becomes easy for anyone else to grab it and exploit it. It also becomes troublesome, especially in business world, if it's hijacked and used nefariously.

For example, McDonalds, which is commonly associated with junk food and obesity (despite their efforts to improve that image) started a #McDStories hashtag that went viral in a bad way. Around 1,500 "stories" went out from users claiming food poisoning, bad employees and various other complaints. The good news is that only 2% of the Tweets that came in were negative, but the press they got from it was enough to sweat about.

For most people, the hashtag is used for fun. Many trending hashtags, like #ProudtoBeaFanOf are simply used to share an opinion. Others help organize news stories around major events. And sometimes they're just made up on the fly to make a Tweet sound funnier. The interpretation and usage is always up to you, like most Twitter lingo, but the most basic function of a hashtag is to create a single, organized feed of Tweets around each one.

Sailing, once an elite hobby for the most elite of our society, remains a dream for many among us, but that hasn't stopped the founder of The Yacht Club of Hyderabad Suheim Sheik from pursuing his dream, "When you see a water body such as this, you know you have to do something about it. Sailing has always been the hobby of the elite, but I wanted to change that, and here we are with The Yacht Club of Hyderabad," says Suheim over a telephonic conversation with stuMagz.

He went on to found the club in 2009, while also nurturing a dream of giving underprivileged kids a platform so their dreams could get sails and catch the strongest wind going forward, and so began his journey. Suheim, with the help of IPS Office Praveen Kumar SWAERO initiative, gathered a bunch of kids and the rest, as they say, was history. The kids of The Yacht Club of Hyderabad are this week's Gang of the Week, here is their story.

Coming from an underprivileged family is coming from a place where you do not even have the luxury to dream, let alone sail abroad representing your country, but Durga Prasad broke all barriers by becoming one of the first to do so. Coming from Rasoolpura, this 14-year-old represented India at the Asian Sailing Federation Youth Games in Dubai, UAE, and has now been selected to represent India at the World Championship in Pattaya, Thailand.

Speaking of the kids in training, Suheim says, "The talent pool in the city is tremendous, what they lack is an opportunity. This has been one of our primary goals, to provide kids, especially the underprivileged, an opportunity to sail."

"Eventually, however, quite a few kids were under my wing and it kind of became a sports club," Suheim laughs, "and it slowly turned into a passion for me."

Along with Durga Prasad, the other star sailors of the club include Vamshi and Vijay, both of whom have been selected for the Army Sports School in Bangalore, whereas the rest, Mallesh, Sachin and Vishvanath will join the Navy. Durga Prasad himself has been selected by the Navy for training under Admiral Monty Khanna and will go on to represent the Navy in future competitions.

The journey, however, was not simple, "Just because there are the means to do so doesn't mean people will always accept them. There were a few challenges we faced working with kids, both privileged and underprivileged. You see, parents tend to make a schedule for their kids according to their work timings and that can seriously affect a child's personal growth at times," explains Suheim, "There were also instances where a parent simply refused to let their child sail due to various reasons, some primitive, some baffling."

Today, the program under The Yacht Club of Hyderabad has grown exponentially, with a strength of 50-60 students under its wing, with its founder confident that it'll scale to 100 and further in the future, "We will continue doing what we do, providing the means and encouragement to kids to let them chase their dreams," he concludes.

Learning to sail in a landlocked city sounds ridiculous at first thought, but then a water body as large as Hussain Sagar lake can provide multiple opportunities for the children of the city to dream, and that is precisely what The Yacht Club of Hyderabad has been doing. We wish Durga Prasad and his peers all the best for their future endeavours, may the winds never fail their sails.
"}]
I'm sure colleges are still harping on the benefits of writing professional letters to your boss, but those days are long gone and our syllabus refuse to adapt (although if your college has emphasised on the need to write proper emails and educated you on the same, you should thank them), so it doesn't surprise me in the least that there are still many young students and working professionals who do not realise the mistakes they're making while writing an email. Writing subject lines for emails looks like a relatively simple task but it can be daunting once you actually get to it. I've had many people ask me how to write an effective subject line for their emails sent to superiors, which made me think about how I wrote them. The secret is quite simple, you just take the gist of the body of the email you're sending and put it in the subject line, nothing more, nothing less. Nobody likes an overcomplicated email, especially your superiors.

For instance, if you're sending an email about last week's sales figures, just put 'Sales figures from (date) to (date)', or something as simple as a leave, just say 'Requesting a leave on (enter date here)'. It isn't rocket science, so don't ever get worked up about writing a subject line. It is always, and the emphasis on this cannot be put enough, always a good idea to be upfront about dates in the subject line.

2. Excessive Communication:

Being clear and precise in the subject line doesn't mean you have to overdo it in the body of the email. When your colleagues or even yourself for that matter, open an email from work, you wouldn't like it to be overly long and extra detailed. This isn't Game of Thrones, you aren't GRRM to write about how the sun's slant made your keyboard shine the colour of Lannister hair as you type the email.

It is extremely important to achieve a balance between over communication and being too short and rude like Tyrion Lannister.

3. Save the humour for personal emails.

Wit beyond measure may be man's greatest treasure but keep it in check in a professional setting. When you're writing an email to your colleagues, the last thing they need is a joke or a limerick in a professional email. Never forget that emails are official communication, as good as giving something in writing with your signature all over it, and you certainly do not want some funny limerick you once thought about to be part of the company's official correspondence, it will not reflect well on you, trust me on that one.

4. Tone matters

You don't want to be seen as a tone deaf and rude person at work, that will never end well for you. It is highly important to check the tone of your email before you hit that send button, lest it seems more rude than polite. Which also brings me to politeness.

Good email writers can sweep people off their feet with just their writing skills, subtly praising the recipient and still getting work done. Everyone likes to be appreciated and recognised for their work in a professional setting, so let's take the example of requesting a report from a colleague.

You could either write, 'Hi, I need that report you worked on right now, thank you,' or you could write, 'Hi! I've heard you did great work on the report, and I'm in need of it right now. Could you please send it across? Thank you!'. Which one of these do you think will be more appreciated? Spoiler alert: It's the latter rather than the former.

The reason behind is quite simple, in a professional setting, people appreciate politeness and being to the point. It is for this reason being mindful of your tone is quite important.

5. Proof Reading

The last thing you need in your emails are spelling mistakes and typos, and even worse: Grammatical errors. Never forget that emails are part of the official record, and it will reflect poorly on your performance if you make mistakes in your emails. Not only does it greatly reduce the effectiveness of the email, in some cases, it might also annoy the reader who has an eye for detail like this. It's not a good look for anybody, especially for someone who has freshly joined the organisation.

Luckily, today's computers come equipped with spell checkers to avoid this issue, but the grammar, that is something you have to take care to fix.

It's important to remember that these are something that should become second nature to you, but at the same time, it is not something you should excessively worry about. As with everything, practice makes perfect. Take your time, learn and write emails that knock people off their feet and float in the air, and it'll work in your favour in more ways than one, I guarantee it.

And whatever you do, please do not finish your emails with 'Please do the needful', it is technically still correct but the term has been outdated for quite some time.
"}]
