Originating in the 90s in Japan, it slowly spread across the world, becoming a mainstay of fan conventions, like Comic Con. The Indian cosplay scene didn't see a spurt of growth until Comic Con started spreading across cities in the country, and today, with regular cosplayers earning themselves legions of fans, there is one cosplayer who has been called The Cosplay Queen of India.<\/p>Meet geek, gamer and professional cosplayer Aorin Shariyari. We catch up with her for a chat about her career and the cosplay scene in general. <\/p>"},{"type":"img","id":"img-uid-1491724769673","data":"58e9ea40ac2e3"},{"type":"txt","id":"rich_1491724821984","data":"\"I started cosplaying in 2011, at anime con. It was my first ever cosplay,\" says Aorin upon being asked about when she started cosplaying, \"and since then it has been a constant in my life. Even as a student, I used to take the time off from books to do cosplay stuff.\"  <\/p>Today, Aorin works for NODWIN gaming as a professional cosplayer, which is to say, she earns her living by designing costumes based on characters from a medium, and pulls it off in style, and she started at a time when very few in India had heard about cosplay. We ask her what she thought about the nascent state of the cosplay scene in India, and she replies, \"I wouldn't say nascent, I'd say underdeveloped. However, in the last 5 years there has been a tremendous amount of growth in the scene.\"<\/p> <\/p>"},{"type":"img","id":"img-uid-1491726373342","data":"58e9f0727e800"},{"type":"txt","id":"rich_1491726396771","data":"Aorin speaks about how she overcame depression with the help of cosplay, \"I wanted to focus my energies on something creative, and that's why I love cosplay so much. The will to create something beautiful from scratch and rather than letting the sadness drive you crazy is a powerful thing\" she says. I would like to take this moment to tell our readers that depression is a silent killer, and if you know someone going through depression, please make sure you are there to talk with them. <\/p>We ask Aorin about her hobbies and what she does in her free time, when she's not working on a cosplay, \"Free time? Is that German for sleeping?\" she jokes, \"Just kidding. I hardly get any me time, I have pets to take care of and a house to maintain. I have to be very particular about taking care of my health, so it can get quite hectic. My life now revolves around my work and it's part of who I am. I didn't expect to be here 5 years ago either so I'm not going to guess and let time surprise me.\" <\/p>In conclusion, we ask her for her advice on people who are on the fence about cosplay, a more personal question than a pertinent one, and she says, \"Don't hold back, cosplay is amazing, as long as you remember to have fun.
