Facing great adversities and overcoming them is no mean feat, and for Irfan Basha, it wasn't easy, but necessary. This 4th year Civil Engineering student from G. Pulla Reddy College of Engineering and Technology went on to found his company, Haysky Technologies, in pursuit of his passion.

We catch up with him for a chat about his company, his journey so far, passions and dreams and more.

"I was always interested in Software Engineering, but sadly I had to choose Civil Engineering in my first year," he says, talking about his journey, "but that didn't stop me or bury my interest in software. However, at the time it felt like the doors to my career in software development were coming to an end, and that was quite disheartening."

Irfan didn't get a chance to pursue his dreams until his Third Year in college, where they were given an elective to choose from, "The college gave me an opportunity to study Web Development as a subject, and I jumped at the chance. I devoured books one after another and scored really good marks, and yet, I wrote improvements for this paper because I wanted to learn more and write again" Irfan says, with the hint of a smile.

Talking about how his company came into existence, Irfan says, "In 7th semester, the placements season was in full swing, and a couple of software development companies had come to college. I was excited, software development companies coming to our college was something I was looking forward to, but sadly, I didn't meet the minimum CGPA requirements to be qualified enough, and my communications skills did not help."

Irfan, displaying his indomitable spirit, refused to let his rejection keep him down and continued to focus on web development, he went on to win 2nd prize in a web designing competition held by IEEE Forum, which he credits as his first achievement, "I got to speak for 20 minutes straight on stage about my passion, and when I was on the stage, I didn't even realise that 20 minutes had passed, I just kept on talking" he says. Buoyed by the confidence boost received from the event, him, along with his friend, Sufiyan, Irfan went on to establish Haysky Technologies.

Taking inspiration from his father, who is a farmer and a business man, and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, Irfan says, "While my father taught me the value of hard work, Sundar Pichai taught me that what you studied in college has no bearing on where you will be in a few years, as long as you are passionate about something and follow it through." For the uninitiated, Sundar Pichai studied Metallurgy at IIT Kharagpur.

From developing websites for college fests, to hospitals, function halls and personal websites, Haysky Technologies today has taken off, to the delight of Irfan, "It was all about chasing my passion, and I'm glad I did. This is what I'd tell to my fellow students as well, it's not about which branch you're in or how bad your circumstances are, what matters is what you can learn and what you can give back to the society" he concludes.
