Darkness can be useful for someone to hide. It can be of surmountable aid if you are playing hide and seek at the night with your friends, specially if that friend of yours is a dead girl.

It was the winter of 2002, and I was a little cute boy back then. The little one who’s everyone’s favourite. Yes, that was me. It was the winter break and my aunt had come to pay us a visit.

She was a very animated person, always cheering everyone up, even the saddest soul on earth couldn’t stay sad around her. She had two kids, both boys. Sonu was the older one. He was 12, 6 years elder than me. While Aditya, who was also 6 loved to hang out with me, I on the other hand spent most of my time around Sonu because he was cool and taught me some magic tricks that he used to learn from his friends at school.

I always loved magic. It was always felt so satisfying to show the trick to someone and not tell them the secret. I always loved mysterious things that appeared out of the blue. It always fascinated me.

We trio were the mischief machine of the house. My parents always warned me not to do a certain thing. I did it anyway. They always scolded me afterwards but also smiled at my innocence.

It was around 9PM one night of that winter when all three of us decided to play hide and seek. We turned off the lights of all the rooms except the hall because it was where our parents were in. The game started and it was me who got to play the seeker. I hated it. I wanted to hide in the first round and then jump scare Sonu or Aditya, whoever the seeker was. I always loved the scared expression on people’s faces.

After I finished counting upto 100, I went to look for them. Finding them was not an easy task because the rooms were too dark and according to the rule, we weren’t supposed to use any kind of light. There was silence all around the house. Our parents were in the hall, I could only hear them when I passed through the hall on my way to the other rooms.

Finding Sonu was an easy task because he was hiding behind the refrigerator and I saw his one foot poking out the corner of the back of the fridge. I called him out. He was puzzled about how I found him so easily. I didn’t tell him of course because I wanted to wear that triumphant look on my face. Now I started looking for Aditya. Sonu offered to help me which I readily accepted because I was afraid of the darkness a little. With Sonu by my side, I needed not to worry.

We looked for Aditya everywhere except my room. It was so dark in my room that I couldn’t see a single thing. I had to touch everything in order to know it’s location and then move about the room. I tried. I tried a lot. But it was complete impossible to navigate with all that darkness. I finally gave up and asked Sonu to turn on the lights of the room. But even he couldn’t make out where the switches were in the room because of all that darkness.

I asked him to fetch a flashlight while I looked for Aditya for a few more minutes. Sonu somehow managed to move out of the room, leaving me alone in the dark. The room was quite chilly than the rest of the rooms. Fearing that I might hurt myself, I got down on the ground and started moving on four hands like a toddler. The floor was very cold and icy. All of it started to give me a little creepy vibe. A whisper came in my ear and faded almost as soon as it came. It gave me goosebumps. I wanted to run out of there but didn’t because Sonu would think that I’m a loser. Inspite of everything, I started to look for Aditya while I waited for Sonu to come as soon as possible.

After moving around for a while, my head bumped into something. I touched it to feel what it was although I didn’t want to. It was my bed and that gave me quite a relief. I thought that Aditya must be hiding under the bed. I started calling out his name and tried to move under bed so that I could touch and feel him.

“Aditya? Are you there?” the sound barely came out of my mouth.

Suddenly my hand felt something. It was hair. I moved my hand a little to touch the face and as I did, he spoke, “Abhishek! Stop it, you’ll poke my eyes”. It was Aditya and I was quite relieved that at least now there was someone with me in that room.

We both planned to scare Sonu once he came with the flashlight looking for us. Aditya agreed to it.

Few minutes later, Sonu came with the flashlight and as he lit it, horror crept my face. My throat suddenly felt the need of water. I wasn’t able to speak anything. Suddenly the room felt much more colder than it already was. I just looked at Sonu from under my bed.

Behind Sonu, Aditya was standing at the door and he shouted, “Come out Abhishek, I give up”.
"}]
1. No More Exams:

For engineering students most of the time it is the exams that keep them engaged; internals, externals, semester exams, competitive exams, project reviews etc. All this could be annoying and hectic right now but this is what you will miss the most. The combined studies, the final one night preparation and all the jugaad you do to clear the exam. 2. College Mates:

When you'll find a job, things change drastically. You won't find time to party, you ought to wait till Friday to make plans to meet up with friends. This is not the case in college, all you need is money and you have a reason to party and spend good time with friends. You would make new friends but you cannot bond with them as much as you can with your college friends. You’ll look forward to reunions. You’ll make weekend road trips a priority. And there will be Friday nights that you don't have anything to do. In fact, you probably won't want to do anything because you'll be tired. Your experience at the first job teaches you many things, so your life lessons precisely start with your first job.

You'll see your friends working hard to make the world a better place, investing themselves in all different industries, becoming the people they were created to be. And you'll be proud of them. You'll also smile when you think about the days you lived together in the same hostel or how you were in college.

Lets face it, no matter how much we tell students, there is always going to be people who put off preparing till the end and then panic. Let me reiterate, only sheer luck can save you the night before the exam, and no matter how lucky you think you are, don't leave your marks to the fickle whims of fate. In the words of Harvey Dent from The Dark Knight, make your own luck, by studying early.

That being said, here's some time effective methods to prepare for your exams because you're late anyway. Also if you're early and follow these tips, it'll give you more room to relax and revise before the exam, and that's a bonus.

1. Pick and organise your study space

Clutter is extremely distracting. Pick a place you can peacefully study in and make sure you clean it up, organise it as neatly as you can, not only will this make you appreciate your workspace more, but it will also work as a sort of meditative technique, helping you concentrate and the end result would be a space that isn't distracting to you because of all the clutter lying around that pokes the corner of your eye.

2. Compartmentalise with a Calendar (or a clock)

Students spend more time planning than actually studying, quite a tragedy really, now that you think about it. I mean sure, it is easier to imagine yourself doing things than actually doing them, but that can't go on, obviously. Instead of vaguely assigning units to days, assign topics to dates and time them accordingly. For instance, take M1, assign Laplace transforms for one whole day, and hourly or bi-hourly, assign topics from within the units so your study schedule is a smooth sailing experience. This is why compartmentalisation of data is so important, it helps you better equipped to deal with unexpected delays

Of course, this only works if you start preparing ahead of time, otherwise you're pretty much left with hourly planning the night before the exam, with cramming too much info into your head.

3. Train your mind

Contrary to popular belief, studying in the evenings is not better than studying in the morning. It has been proven that if you study in the same time slot your exam is going to be held in, you train your mind to focus better in that particular time slot. So study, as often as you can, and especially in the time slots your exams are usually held in.

4. Practice, practice again, and practice some more.

Practical application requires practical application, and yes this sentence is absolutely correct. With engineering subjects, especially, a lot of the syllabus requires you to apply what you've learned to solve problems, and no matter how much you study, no matter how much you think you're good at it, without practicing, you're setting yourself up for failure without even knowing it.

5. Stay healthy

The last thing you need during your exams is sickness, or general uncomfortableness. With the sun searing into our souls already, and keeping in mind that the weather will be unforgiving in proper exam season, it is absolutely imperative that you take care of your health at all costs. Fainting in an exam due to dehydration is neither romantic, nor will the examiner look at your half finished paper and think 'Oh, this poor student fainted in the exam hall'. That stuff doesn't happen, and only you can take care of your health, so as tempting as that samosa or panipuri looks, don't eat it. Don't hang out in the sun. Just don't do it.

There isn't a bigger waste of time than this, getting sick affects everything you do, not just studying.
