Let's be honest here, a country as devastated as ours was under the yoke of the white man, it was an outrageous idea to even dream of having a space program, let alone funding one and going ahead with the plans. Yet, thanks to the vision of our former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, we dared to dream and we not only achieved, we excelled.

For PM Nehru understood and inculcated into the nation a sense of scientific temper and being driven towards sciences and technology, but that is a story for another time. Right now, however, we turn our eyes skyward and appreciate the realisation of our dreams for a space program, which were realised on this day, April 19, in 1975 when we put Aryabhatta, India's very first satellite, in space.

1. The Great Bod:

Aryabhata was built by ISRO to conduct experiments in X-ray astronomy, aeronomics, and solar physics. The spacecraft was a 26-sided polygon with a diameter of 1.4 metre. Transporting it was a whole another beast.

2. A Little Help From The North:

Obviously, India had the technology to build a satellite but it could not build a launchpad or develop a launch vehicle. It also seemed silly to do so, considering the Soviets were literally at the throats of the Americans and both the nations were making new breakthroughs in rocket science nearly every year. It simply made more sense for us to ally with the Soviets and ask them for help to launch of satellite. Which they did, Aryabhata weighing 360 kilogram was launched by Russia (then USSR) from their Kapustin Yar rocket launch and development site using a Kosmos-3M launch vehicle.

3. You Scratch My Back....

Of course, in Geopolitics, there's no permanent friends or enemies. The Soviet Union was not going to help us without getting something in return. So in 1972, preparing for the launch three years later, UR Rao oversaw the signing of a deal with the USSR that allowed the them to use Indian ports for tracking ships and launching vessels in exchange of launching Indian satellites.

Of course, the United States wasn't happy about it, but that's a story for another time.

4. Unforeseen Circumstances:

Not many know this, but mere days ahead of launch, the Satellite actually fell and its electric power system failed. It took four days of painstaking working to fix it and make it ready for launch once more.

This week’s cosmic review is quite interesting with amazing news. So, let’s dive right in to…

Parker Space Probe

Our star Sun has always fascinated us. But we never really reached the Sun and never go to observe it close enough. Well, NASA has plans for that and now they are close to make it possible. The Parker Space Probe is the one that NASA has for its first mission to touch the Sun. This spacecraft is about the size of a small car and is intended to travel right in to the atmosphere of Sun. You might be wondering how this spacecraft could survive the extreme heat of Sun. The spacecraft is provided with a 4.5 inch thick carbon composite shield which would withstand a temperature of 2500 F. Moreover another interesting fact of this mission is that NASA has for the first time named the spacecraft after a living individual. As this mission was named after Eugene Parker who is an astrophysicist and the one who has done phenomenal work on stars and their behaviour.

The most interesting thing about this mission is that, now it’s possible for you to be on the mission. Not literally but, you can now submit your names online which would be placed on the microchip aboard the spacecraft as your name will go along the spacecraft as travels through the Sun’s atmosphere. Sounds interesting right, why don’t you give a try then…

Be a part of the mission and register your names through this link:

An interstellar visitor

It was on October 19th,2017 that this interstellar visitor , simply a rocky object from another star system was discovered for the first time. It was named Oumuamua and is the first object in our solar system from another star system. It was on the discussion table recently as scientists check the object for FM band signals on a speculation that it could be a interstellar spacecraft. But scientists didn’t found any life sign on it and continue to observe this interesting traveller.

SpaceX

The CRS14 mission is still underway as the Dragon Capsule is docked to the ISS for cargo transfer after a Falcon9 launch from SpaceX on 2 April,2018. After two days , the capsule was docked to ISS. The only thing now left to finish the mission successfully is its recovery as Dragon prepares for a splashdown in the Pacific.

The next launch for SpaceX would come from yet another Falcon9 which would be carrying NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite(TESS) which is scheduled to be launched on 16th April and the launch window being 6:32-6:33 EDT( 0402-0403 the next day ,IST).

ISRO

The recent GSLV launch which carried GSAT-6A satellite onboard was unsuccessful as the satellite suffered a power glitch after getting into the orbit.

ISRO has successfully launched yet another navigational satellite IRNSS-1l which is seventh of it's kind . It was launched aboard PSLV at 0404hrs IST on 12th April,2018. The regional navigation satellite system(NavIC) constellation is now complete with 7 satellites and is now highly efficient.
"}]

I have..had.. a friend who when talking about her mental health issues once said to the self-help group that she hit her maid because she was panicking. Not only did she not apologise for what had happened, she paraded that fact around she hit her maid as to show off to people that she was facing mental health issues. That's when I realised that some people are just bad, no matter what they go through.

I like to think I'm loyal to my friends, I try my best to do whatever I can do but there is just something wrong about someone parroting around their mental health issues as their personality, apart from the obvious lack of personality.

Let me tell you something. I've suffered with depression for quite some time now, I know what it feels like to get panic attacks because I've been there in myself. Never once during those have I intentionally harmed someone or myself and haven't apologised afterwards. One should be ashamed of causing harm to others but for some reason, it has became sort of a fashion statement to flaunt around your mental health issues these days.

The rise of the internet and acceptance of mental health has brought out a new generation of people who think that flaunting their mental health issues will get them sympathy. Maybe because they were never loved in their own homes or maybe because they get off on sympathy, I don't know, but let me make one thing very clear.

Your Mental Health Is Not An Excuse To Behave Badly With Other People

Especially when those people are lower on the privilege ladder than you.
"}]
Back in 2013, I happened to meet an incredible woman Arunima Sinha, who overcame her disabilities to become the world's first amputee woman to scale Mt.Everest and that very moment she became my inspo and I fell in love with mountains and mountains started calling me!
A year later, in 2014, found a channel and started my mountaineering career, initially felt tough balancing education and mountains, and a at point of a time I was been restricted from continuing mountaineering.
With the love for mountains in my heart, I finally got graduated with a job that I could bag on campus.
As the lines from my favorite song Counting Stars by One Republic goes, "I feel something so wrong doing the right things!".I too felt so wrong in doing what society expected me to do. Standing at the crossroads, with call letter in one hand and on the other my passion, I choose to listen to my heart. It was really hard to convince my parents;seeing my dedication towards my passion, it made inevitable for them to let me fly!
After 4 months of intense gym sessions and preparations, I was all set to go!
A special mention to my trainer turned new found BFF, thanks Waseem for being the strictest and the bestest trainer ever!

txt
rich_1523711901932

Then came the day, 27th of March, the day of our departure, I was drenched with emotions as we left for Tanzania, Africa. As soon as we finished our immigration process and stepped out of the airport, the way our Tanzanian friends received us, I fell in love with Moshi city already! And on our way to the hotel room, I couldn't take my eyes off the beautiful lush green city!
Before retiring for the day, our expedition leader and head guide briefed our 6 day sojourn on the mountain.

Day 2- As we were still in the Rainforest region, it took us an hour to see another terrain, i.e. Moorland. The thing at mountains is you need to trek at your own pace and not try to match others, our leader and the kiddo were ahead, while me and my guide were together, walking and walking and walking all alone in the barren land with no sight of any human for hours together made us more exhausted, but when you bump into other climbers, you feel alive, and as the age old tradition goes we have to greet the fellow climbers and doing so we feel some kind of good vibes hitting back!
It was time to take a break for lunch and unfortunately my lunch pack got misplaced, no amount of energy left in me to trek further, my body has to be reloaded and my generous guide offered me his lunch, while he managed somehow! Thanks Theo :)
As soon as we began our journey after the break, it started pouring in very bad, as we didn't expect the sudden shower, this time again,Theo lent me his poncho(raincoat)!
We kept trekking and trekking and I got totally exhausted, trying to motivate myself I kept on repeating a quotation by Swami Vivekanand, 'Stop not till the goal is reached', they say our bodies maybe limited but it's our spirits that's unstoppable! and at the sight of camp 2, I was jumping with joy and literally dragged myself towards the camp so that I can have some rest, but I was told that if I rest I would catch fever as we strained our bodies for straight 8-9 hours at the high altitude, we need to just relax and not take a nap so we spent that evening whiling away the time, clicking pictures and exploring the place, having a gala time with our guides, getting into the kitchen muching on some African delicacies.

Whatever we do in our lives, good or bad, will affect somebody like ripples on the water. They expand, they touch something before they slowly vanish... Ripples come in many ways, from love and spite, hope and despair and joy and pain; shaping who we are, exchanging what we lose for what we gain... Sometimes the ripples which someone has created in your life continues on, long after the person has gone, not bounded by the twilight, but cherished, kept safe, hidden in heart.

Every life affects another. Our actions, our words, our silence...everything we do affects those around us. Our life ripples expand, bump into and sweep through other's life ripples just like rain drops on a still lake.

The affects can be subtle and we go many days without personally feeling the affects of our actions to people around us...nothing special has really changed or may be... We are blind to what is around us. At other times, it feels like we are in midst of a terrible storm with waves quaking up over heads. Sometimes the poison of someone else's life ripple can hit us with such a big wave that we in turn push a similar wave back at someone else.

Life along with everything else in this world, draws its meaning from you. You give life meaning. Life is what you make it to be. Life is to CREATE it as you go. There are no rules, no guidelines, no expectations, simply a HUGE playing field in which to experience whatever you want, have whatever you want and meet whatever you want.

Life is like a silver screen, director is life, producer is our actions, we are actors, writer is destiny, continuously we are acting in movie. Sometimes sad, sometimes happy, sometimes fear, sometimes escape...

Our life ripples spread across the world bumping into other people's ripples...Everything is really connected in this world. Negative waves are going to hit us, they may even submerge us for a time, however, we have the power to not return or pass onto others, the negative waves.

I am sure we all know how positive waves can send us soaring across the surface of life. What we need to remember is that we can also send other people to new heights which our own positive waves or destroy a piece of other's life with a negative wave.PLEASE be mindful of what type of life ripples you are sending out to the people around you as we follow ripple effect which states "ONE SMALL CHANGE CAN HAVE AN ENORMOUS IMPACT ".

(-: Thank you :-)

"}]

I've made no secret of the fact that my biggest weakness, apart from video games, are books. I just can't seem to stop reading books, I absolutely love and adore reading and it comes as no surprise then that my favourite place to be in any new city I visit is a giant library that I can get lost in and spend the whole day carefully drinking coffee and reading so as to not piss off the librarian who keeps a watchful gaze on us errant book lovers. I recently came across an article which featured pictures of some really beautiful libraries and this one here is my personal list of which ones I want to visit. Check it out!

1. Tianjin Binhai Library — China

Visiting China is worth it not just for the cheap electronics but for this mind bogglingly beautiful library. I mean just look at how sleek and cleverly designed it is.

2. National Library of Belarus — Belarus

I don't know if I ever wanted to visit Belarus before this but now I sure as hell do.

3. Bishan Public Library — Singapore

I'm proud of the fact that I've been to this library when I took a solo trip to Singapore a couple of years ago. I crashed at a traveller's hostel, mingled with some amazing people and spent a lot of time at the Bishan Public Library. I mean, who wouldn't, just look at how beautiful it is.

4. The Library of El Escorial — Spain

Designed like a cathedral, The Library of El Escorial is worth visiting for the elaborate frescos on the ceiling alone. It's just beautiful.

5. Oxford University Queen's College Library — England

I mean come on, who doesn't want to go to the Oxford University Queen's College Library. It's beautiful, it's historic - imagine the kind of knowledge gained here and what conquests were planned - and as Indians, it should be cathartic to stick it to the empire by visiting and reading here. Maybe spilling some coffee on the floor.

Don't actually do that, I cringed while writing it.

TIME OR LAZINESS

Time comes and goes,

Laziness are their foes.

It’s in your hands which side you pick,

Hope you won’t get lazy or sick.

We rely on time we claim,

But we couldn’t keep up its name.

That’s when laziness takes us away;

From the dearest time, who always showed us when to leave or stay.

Now time is just a show case,

New or old piece, but always ticks in the same ways.

We spend time in our convenience,

But we don’t disturb our lazy brains.

Time is equal to God they say,

The almighty gives us time for everything,
Yet we forget to pray.

Never say “I’m busy or I don’t have much time”,

But train your brains to turn away from that lazy enzyme,

Which keeps cleaving away the precious time.

Every new day which starts with a sun rise,

Should end with positive vibes.

Just beware not to turn lazy,

Or you’ll end up being hazy.

Do what you have to do today,

Watch out not to tremble in a lazy way.

Remember that time has also given you birth .

You must be thinking that the above phrase is something you have never heard.

It’s the time which formed you in the womb.

It’s the time who made you this way.

We all know, that one day we’ll end up in a tomb.

It’s your choice to end it in the right time,

Or being lazy throughout your lifetime.
