[{"type":"txt","id":"rich_1491469739450","data":"Smart India Hackathon, an initiative of the Government of India challenged students across the country to take up problems detailed on a website and work towards a solution for it. Many students across many colleges in the country participated, the Hackathon having brought out the best minds from the colleges, but only a few made it to the finals at Pune, and even fewer made it to the Top 8. <\/p>One such team, SNARK, is the only team from Telangana to have made it to the top 8. We speak to the team leader Stephen about their journey and their product. <\/p>"},{"type":"img","id":"img-uid-1491470282267","data":"58e608187e76d"},{"type":"txt","id":"rich_1491470303230","data":"\"We picked a problem on behalf of the Ministry of Electronics and Information, and after brainstorming for a while, we decided to come up with a app for education. An educational app with a twist, if you will,\" says Stephen, smiling, \"the difference is, we use AR technology to make learning more interesting.\"<\/p>In this age of smartphones and children using more technology and personal devices than before, an app like Team SNARK's would not only gain a child's interest, it will actively encourage them to learn. <\/p>\"What our app does is, it uses the camera, and say there is a picture, a 2D picture, of the Solar System in a book. It scans the picture and then creates a 3D model of it on the screen with information about the planets. Similarly, it can also scan books and display relevant information about it on the screen\" says Stephen.  <\/p>"},{"type":"img","id":"img-uid-1491470605721","data":"58e60979142df"},{"type":"txt","id":"rich_1491470653493","data":"The journey was not easy, \"We had to learn stuff that is not even included in our syllabus, it took 3-4 months of planning, preparation, coding and execution.  We also had to build the 3D models from scratch,\" he says, \"but despite that it has been an amazing journey.\" <\/p>Of the many hundreds of teams across the country, 58 were invited to Pune, and then 8 were selected for the grand finals. But sadly, they couldn't go any further, \"There were so many cool and incredible ideas here, it was quite amazing to see, to be honest\" explains Stephen. <\/p>Team SNARK, which is made up of the first alphabets of every member's names, has 6 members, of which Stephen is a 4th year CSE student, while the other members, Akshay Chandra, Roja Reddy, Naveena, Rakshati and Kavya Reddy are from the 2nd and 3rd year of CSE, at Spoorthy Engineering College. <\/p>While they couldn't win the grand prize, Telangana is proud of Team SNARK for having represented the state at such a prestigious event.
