Life offers us anything only after testing us.But what if it tests you again and agiain.
The same thing happened with one of my friends. He has a strong desire of joining in the Indian army.In the early stages of achieving his goal,he faced a lot of hurdles that tested his patience. He lost his every chance ,not because of his inability but because of something called bad luck.
During his first attempt his bad luck was in such a way that,a problem in the generation of hall ticket prevented him from writing the NDA exam. This was his first failure, which was followed by the other one which is due to some 2% of difference in marks .Yes,due to a difference of 2% of marks he lost his second chance.
Later he succeded in his third attempt and was called to attend the Navy interview in Vishakapatnam. And this time, his badluck was in such a way that the train had arrived 5 hours late. And by the time he reached vishakapatnam, the interview has been completed.
Thus although he failed many times,he didn't lose his courage. He carried positive attitude in every negative situation. And he says that,"all the bad situations that i have faced in my life may lead to some good in future."
Thus it is necessary for everyone to have positive spirit to go ahead in life. And i believe that the one experienced a lot of pain in one's life will surely reach to greater heights in his/her life.

I recently had the opportunity to speak to Manoj who had accolades pouring in for him for the past few weeks.
P. Manoj, a 1st year CSE student from CMRCET,won the National Kickboxing championship in Delhi organised by WAKO (World Association of Kickboxing Organisation)Delhi in the last week of January.

Upon asking him about how he felt about the win ,he said "I was over the top of the world, Overjoyed about the performance"he added that "it's one of the unforgettable moments of my life".

Manoj when asked about how did the journey start said"I started playing this sport only a few months before joining B.Tech".Manoj who stays in bowenpally said that there is a trainer at his place who trains his students in kickboxing ,himself being a master in the Sport.

He said"I approached him with my own interest towards the sport and requested him to accept him as a student". That's it five months down the line he is a winner in a major tournament.

When asked him about his previous experiences before this tournament, it was revealed by him that he's also won the gold in state championship and hence selected to the nationals."I won the gold but only had to settle for a silver awarded to me due to some reason"he added"There was this moment when I thought that I might get disqualified when a punch I landed on my opponent made him bleed thorough the nose. Even I was awestruck since it was light contact event heavy blows are not allowed and it would lead to disqualification".

Manoj said that he's enjoying his time at the college and said he just settled adjusting to new place and new people.

Manoj said he'll keep working hard and aim for many more of such and thanked his parents and his well wishers for their support without whom it couldn't have been possible.

1517760737346
txt

I mean we'd all like to have some letters be delivered to our past selfs to make sure we don't make the very dumb and obvious mistakes we've made over a period of years but as luck would have it, time travel isn't real yet and we cannot go back in time.

However, we do have the power to change our futures, which also means we can send letters to our future selves that we'll read - In the future! How cool is that?

I've seen people spend thousands and thousands of rupees on finding the perfect life, the perfect balance between all the things that they do so that they don't compromise on their hobbies.

But here's the funny thing, there is not such thing as a perfect life, everything that appears to be perfect to the human eye is not only a matter of perspective, it also takes a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication to put on a appearance of doing the same.

Steven Wilson writes a song, called Routine, about a woman who is still pretending that she has a perfect life even after her husband and children have died in a car crash and it is a devastatingly painful and beautiful song.

This is the point I'm trying to make here. Life will never be perfect, you just have to accept that and make of it what you will. The curse and the boon of the human condition is that we are uniquely equipped to endure great bouts of misery and learn to move on, learn to put it behind us and move on with our lives, learning from the experience. Or we can let it completely devastate us.

I laugh at the shylocks selling the promise of a perfect life, whether it is through religion or some sort of magical cure, it just isn't going to happen. You learn to make of life what you can and you learn to move on. There are no short cuts.

So always hope for a good life, one with friends and family, where you love, laugh and live, rather that chasing that perfect life that you know will make you miserable because you tell yourself you cannot achieve it.

You can always be better than you are currently, but you will never be perfect. Perfection is what you make of it.
"}]

Life is never easy. When you think you had it all figured, it goes ahead and becomes the most complicated thing ever. One minute everything seems happy and blissful and in the next, things go downhill and everything is chaotic!

Usually, aspects like bullying, trauma, betrayals, heartbreaks and failures throw people off the track. Despair and hopelessness take over you. Pessimism and perplexity cloud your rational thinking. Your emotions go overdrive and push you into an abysmal darkness. Even simple tasks seem frustrating to accomplish. Your anger notches up-to a whole new level, trust issues arise and irritability sees no end. Shutting people out becomes your defense mechanism and you turn into an empty shell. This emptiness overwhelms you and pushes you over the edge.

And you start searching for ways to let your frustration out. You get addicted to drugs, alcohol and whatnot! You even try and hurt yourself and suicidal thoughts cross your mind frequently.

Depression is a nasty feeling to go through. Do not let it over power you and your will to succeed. Let someone in and try speaking to them. It's not an easy thing to do, I know, trust me I do. But it really helps. Go to a therapist or do something that will keep you off that emptiness you feel. Get help before you succumb to it.

Folks, there might be people right next to you who are falling prey to depression. Observe them, take a closer look, you'll understand their struggle. Try and help them. It's that time of the year again when the finance minister carries an all-important looking briefcase into the parliament and announces a lot of stuff in hopes of impressing the voter base and furthering the interests of our nation but often end up being mocked on Whatsapp groups by middle-class folks (like, I'm assuming, a lot of us) and called 'anti-middle class'.

Whatever the reception, it is no secret that understanding the Union Budget can be slightly intimidating because it is a wealth of information thrown at the average citizen who often has no point of reference to even begin to decipher the data. While news websites and hawk-eyed market watchers have already written their analysis of the budget and what it means for the future of the country - at least until next year- there are still a vast majority of people who are left questioning how or more specifically what effects them. This article is our attempt to simplify the salient points in the budget that apply to students specifically. Do note, I'm no expert in economics but I will, to the best of my abilities, present to you the facts as is and welcome any corrections should I happen to make an error, just leave a comment!

But first, the basics. In our less than ideal world, the powers that be remember that they were only elected to power in the first place because of the people and focus on the vast majority of the country before a major election, and since we are rapidly headed towards a general election next year, the 2018 Union Budget was going to be Narendra Modi's first post GST and pre-Election budget. Those who were looking for something bombastic to drop as Arun Jaitley droned on on the floor were disappointed, but there were interesting bits that I want to highlight here, starting with the first one

1. Tackling Brain Drain Through Fellowships:

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley introduced a program that aims at identifying the best and brightest from premier B.Tech courses and provide an opportunity to pursue their higher studies in the best of the IITs and IISc Bangalore. The students who are selected via this program can also expect a handsome fellowship to come their way and are required to teach in higher education institutions weekly.

Now, it's no secret that the state of research and development in our country is abysmal. For a nation obsessed with engineering, our homegrown products are embarrassingly bad, although an argument can be made that living with Indian Engineering makes you immune to any form of embarrassment for the rest of your life. That was a joke.

Coming back to the point, I believe this initiative is a positive step towards improving research in our higher education institutes. Research scholars have complained for quite some time that the research grants provided by the centre are simply not enough. Many within academic circles have pointed out that this is one of the primary reasons India's brightest leave our shores to pursue research abroad. Here's hoping we can slow that down, I mean, there's only so much a hyper-nationalistic meme calling for research scholars to come back to the country can do.

2. Cryptocurrency finds a mention in FM Jaitley's Speech:

2017 saw a massive surge in Bitcoins and cryptocurrencies in general and it was only a matter of time before Arun Jaitley addressed rumours of outlawing the unregulated currency. While there was some misinformation on the internet as soon as the Budget hit the news cycles, Arun Jaitley didn't say anything new on the issue apart from reiterating the government's stand from earlier last year, stating that the government would look to curb usage of Bitcoins in illegal transactions but at the same time, harness the blockchain technology as a means to usher in a digital economy for India.

The entire point of cryptocurrencies was that it was an unregulated currency that did not fall under the purview of any government in the world while also being legal tender to buy and sell. It is true that Bitcoin is the preferred currency for less than desirable social elements like hackers and drug peddlers online but the fact remains that Bitcoin will continue to grow as more people invest into it hoping to get rich quick. Using blockchain to regulate currency seems very redundant.

I actually need to research further into this topic, this will make a fine feature later this month so keep an eye out for that.

3. Mobile Phones get more expensive:

This one is bound to hurt a bit. The teaser of this move was dropped by Prime Minister Modi at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he went on record to say that protectionism was as bad as terrorism, mere days before Arun Jaitley announced a whopping 5% increase in custom duties on mobile phones - increasing it from 15% to 20% - to boost 'Make in India'. I mean, if that isn't protectionism, I don't know what is. I hope our Prime Minister can explain this misdirection as soon as possible.

It's not just mobile phones, however, spare parts for TVs and other accessories are currently at 15% which also means that I, as a PC gamer, will find that PC parts have gotten even more expensive. Hooray!

So yeah, if you were waiting to buy that expensive iPhone that you don't really need, it just got a bit costlier. But then again, if you're buying an iPhone X, price really isn't an issue, is it?

4. A Prototype for India's Universal Healthcare:

In what is being touted as the biggest healthcare plan in the world, Arun Jaitley announced that half the population of the country, specifically those who could not afford to get health insurance or afford hospital visits, would be provided with health insurance. With 10 crore families planned to be covered, this is the biggest healthcare plan in the world that has sent economic experts and common people in a tizzy, especially over reports that this plan was only allocated Rs. 2000 crore.

As the news cycle rolls by, we now have reports suggesting that this new healthcare plan, which is being named Modicare much like the popular Obamacare from the United States, would cost the government Rs. 11000 crores annually. Whether the government goes through with this allocation of funds or not remains to be seen.

I'm keeping details sparse because this is something I'm quite interested in and this definitely deserves a massive article of its own, so yes, keep an eye out for this one too later this month. It will also allow me to dig up more information as the government figures out where to go with this.

5. Cigarette prices to remain the same:

Breathe a sigh of relief and some tobacco (actually, don't, like seriously) because this is the first budget in 6 years that left tobacco prices alone. Now, I wouldn't have really included this but cigarettes are to students what popcorn is to movie-goers: You don't really need it, it's super expensive, but it makes getting through college/a movie more tolerable.

As much as our elders like to pretend that their precious sons and daughters are the paragons of virtue, fact remains that our young folk have one vice or another, the most common of them being cigarettes. Now, I managed to quit after a struggle for years and this is in no way an encouragement but take this spurt of happiness that you feel at the fact that prices are not going up and use it to finally quit smoking. Trust me, it's the best decision you'll make for yourself.

My final thoughts on this budget are that it is a very farmer friendly budget that focuses more on consolidating votes from rural areas - and I don't blame them for it, rural areas are the keys to the throne - while inconveniencing the middle-class voters. Now, stuMagz is not a political soapbox but allow me to make this very obvious prediction that the current administration already believes they have middle-class votes in the bag and are focusing on consolidating the rural votes for a majority next year.

So, there you have it, the Student's Guide To Union Budget 2018.
