Researchers have discovered how to be happier, and it's not what you think."Choose to be happy" isnt just a cliche; its a scientific conclusion.People with the freedom to change careers, start a business or live their dreams are happier than people who feel stuck, researchers discovered.

Money relates to happiness only as far as it influences a person's freedom to make choices, the researchers found. In other words, money is indirectly tied to happiness through the lens of your 'freedom to choose.'

"While wealth can provide you with more choices, it's really having the ability to realize your dreams that leads to greater happiness,"

the people with freedom to choose report higher levels of happiness, even if they never act on that freedom. The actual act of changing careers, starting a large family, moving to a new city, launching a business or traveling the world is irrelevant. What matters is having the freedom to do so. (I call this the freedom to 'afford anything' you choose.)Money can provide you with more choices, but only if you keep your bills low. It's not the balance in a person's bank account that makes them happy; it's the 'spread' between their bank balance and their bills. If there's a wide spread, people have more flexibility, more options. If there's a narrow spread, people perceive themselves as stuck, and their happiness levels plummet.

If you get a raise but you embrace a bigger mortgage or a new car payment, your 'spread' never changes and you aren't any happier. If you get a raise but your spending habits stay the same, your 'spread' increases and - with it - so does your freedom and happiness.

The bottom line? Happiness relates to your ability to self-govern your own life, even if your day-to-day actions stay the same.
"}]

The idea that I want to share this morning is to travel more and buy less.

In this buzzy world, most of the us are running and probing the opportunities to grab money, in the mean while they are losing the thing called purpose of life. Yes, indeed we need money to survive but what’s actually happening is we are surviving to earn the money. That actually shouldn’t happen. Very few people travel and experience the new aroma of the world. Not only money the world of coin has other face too. The purpose of life is to explore and learn. The very basic things for people not to travel is WORK, MONEY, and FEAR.

As they are bounded to their works they do never travel. When the idea of travelling comes, one thought pops their mind, “how can we leave everything behind and travel as we are so busy”. They consider themselves as busy bugs. We don’t take vacations. That’s where the actual problem comes. The reason for stress outs is we don’t go out and don not enrich experiences. having vacations and enhancing experiences will lead your life to have epic awesomeness to mind, to your body and to your soul.

Yes, now let’s briefly talk about the reasons why we don’t travel. The very first reason is WORK. We are in a nation of workaholics. From child hood to school, school to college, college to build our career and then to have family and at the end we stay there to accrue wealth. This the lifecycle normally everyone follows. In the present world we live, making money, and having things with that is given much more importance than enriching experiences. western countries have introduced a policy of gap year. A gap year is a 6 months’ vacation which we have to take after high school or after college when we are supposed to build our career. That vacation will lead you to have a positive and strong life.

And the second reason in FEAR. We are feared to travel to different countries. The reasons may be the culture over there, terrorism and trust me there are also reason like” there diseases spread more”. People always mug up their reasons to stay back.

And the third and mostly used reason is MONEY. We don’t have money to travel. We don’t have money because we spend it all on buying stuff. In olden days on an average a human has around 10 to 12 outfits but now they own a total wardrobe. This will never give you happiness instead it takes your money and space.

Travel is an ultimate truth teller. It gives you time to understand yourself and gives the strength to overcome problems and lead you to an optimistic life. We can lead a generation with our values, our ideas, and our experiences. TRAVEL now. If you are YOUNG that means GO. This the age where we can have energy and time to travel and explore. This the extraordinary time to be a traveller. There is no judgement and no competition in level of epic and in length of time. It’s not about checking things in your closet, it’s all about having experiences and enriching life.
"}]
Embrace each and every breathe that you are taking...

Look around you and look inside you, how many people do you think settling ?

I will tell you, a hell of lot many people...

people are settling into okay type relationships, okay kind of jobs and an okay life.

and do you why ?

because okay is comfortable..

okay pays the bills and gives a warm bed at night and allows one to go out with co-mates on a weekend to enjoy a happy hour.

but do you know what okay is not ?

okay is not thrilling,

it is not passion,

it is not the reason you get up everyday,

it is not life changing or unforgettable,

it is not memorable,

okay is not the reason you go bed late and wake up early,

it is not the reason you risk absolutely amazing...

think of it ! dream big... aim high...

never forget your worth or how much you deserve. Don't settle for anything less than wonderful because you deserve so much more.

Psychologists actually managed to find a link between the taste in music and the kind of person you are, and it does solidify my belief that people who listen to the kind of music I listen to are just as crazy as I am.

Now, I'm into Jazz, Indian classical music, heavy metal, rock and the occasional soft pop. I know, the genres are extremely varied but apparently that is a good sign, it says that my brain is healthy and more open to ideas, more accepting of people and different cultures.

Apparently, people who listen to more complex kinds of music are more unconventional, which directly means that the complexity in the music they listen to lends to the complexity of the person they are. This is turning out to be quite an ego stroke for myself but that's just what psychology says, ladies and gentlemen, I can't help it.

While there's nothing wrong with the simple things in life, those who prefer electronic music and pop are less complicated and more conventional than the rest, which is weird considering the kinds of people making these kinds of music are themselves very unconventional (Lady Gaga, I'm looking at you.)

I won't like, Lady Gaga is sort of a guilty pleasure for me, I really enjoy her music and think she has a great vocal range, but the fact remains that her music finds more patronage amongst the simpler members of our society.

Nobody really talks about the sexual exploitation of children by adults in our society, even though it is omnipresent and literally all around us, just hiding beneath the surface. In fact, a report published in the Hindustan Times earlier this year in May revealed the shocking figure that at least 1 in 2 children have been sexually exploited at least once, which means every second person who reads this article has faced sexual abuse when they were children. Despite such major prevalence of child abuse, there is a deafening silence about the issue, which should tell you that our prudishness about sex and the repression that comes with it has really harmful affects on the same kind of children the prudes claim to defend by the very same repression. You can read the report by clicking here.
Now, there are various reasons why child sexual abuse is so prevalent, the easiest of them being the highly repressive nature of our society and the fact that children are easy targets for power abusers (this includes teachers who think just because a child is defenceless, it is okay to beat them), which in turn leads to a cycle of abuse.
But Nobel Peace Prize recipient and all around amazing person Kailash Satyarthi wants to put an end to this. Starting from Kanyakumari, Satyarthi is on a cross India journey through the states all the way to New Delhi to raise awareness about Child sexual abuse.
Kailash Satyarthi has dedicated his life to child rights, fighting for those whom politicians only use as a prop and ignore because they have no voting rights. His contributions to child rights and his work in the field has earned him a well deserved Nobel Peace Prize, which he shared along with Pakistani education for girls activist Malala Yousafzai.
On September 21st, he is going to be in Hyderabad, for an event for which you can show up to show support. Engineers' day, celebrated on the 15th of every September in India, commemorating the birthday (156th birthday as of 2017) of one of the greatest engineers in India so far and a great human being Sir Mokshagundam Visveswarayya popularly known as Sir MV, vis a great way to present new ideas of budding engineers in most of the colleges, and Stanley College stands no exception!

With it's immensely talented, knowledgeable and varied assistant professors, professors, heads of the departments, principal, director etc ,and not to forget the equally eager to learn and enthusiastic students Stanley was able to grab numerous applications and successfully conduct 'KALPANA 2K17' (a student level project along with various other competitions as a part of this day celebrations) which was organized by IETE Students' Forum (ISF) in collaboration with Department of ECE. Right from mind-blowing Case Studies/Technology of Tomorrow (Example: Using IoT for a Swatch Bharat), Proof of Concepts, Learners Projects etc to creative Startup Projects which included the popular snake game created just by using simple C language ,a Smart House (based on IoT) to a Robot Arm made using a hydraulic press (how cool is that!).

The day started off much in chaos with thrill and excitement hanging around in its aura, no sooner did the models got set up in their respective places for display than the judges, faculty and students started pouring in! We were given mind-boggling insight on how we can (and we should) improve our project and apply it to the real world for the betterment of humans. How this was just a first step to forever in the fastly advancing technology of this world [I remember also being told by our peers that we had a satisfactory glow on our faces, which was 'cause we never considered the fact of our win or loss, we were just extremely happy that we made our first ever practical dream come to life! (P.S I sincerely hope that this isn't a formal article, and if by chance it then kindly ignores the above part, I'm a huge memory hoarder Thank you.)]

The day ended, completely mind blown by a presentation by Dr. Linga Reddy, IETE Hyderabad center and speech by Dr. Durga Prasad our two respected judges and inaugural of IFS body of Stanley by Shri Rajesh Kumar, Scientist of DRDO, DRDL, then fingers crossed we sat holding hands (come on, who wouldn't give a chance to hope?) And finally the must awaited moment appeared when the winners were announced and handed the certificates along with the cash prize (award).

EXTRA information: The snake game (done by Gayatri and Nidhi) won the first award in the start-up project (who doesn't like that game!) The above picture is of the smart house which ranked second in position, created by a group of 4 members(Savitri, Kruthika, Madhurika ,and I (*extremely pleased*) and the proud moment being that the event was in collaboration with ECE department where as CSE ended up bagging the first two positions! Which showed that engineering doesn't draw borders around its departments!

Last but not the least ,I would cordially like to thank each and everyone that lead this event towards success (Our principal Dr Satya Prasad Lanka , Professor Dr. K.N Sahu ,Director Dr. A Vinaybabu ,all the HoD's, staff members, and special thanks to our R and D cell -Sigma which includes our beloved Dr Ravindaran Ethiraj and Charles Daniel Sir without whom we wouldn't even take part in this event let alone win!).

This is Sadia signing off with a thump on my heart that we did something and a vision in my mind that we all will make it to the top.

Here's to many more such successful events.

Cheers!

Trust human beings to reduce a group as violent as the Caribbean pirates into caricatures and parodies of themselves by imitating their speech and making fun of them. That and telling kids that dressing up as pirates is great for fancy dress competitions.

But Arr, I would rather see all you scurvy striken sea dogs walk the plank rather than not talk in pirate speak and loot treasure! So shiver me timbers as I stamp me wooden leg and tell you 5 things you and yous can does today to feel truly like a pirate.

1. Learn a sea shanty:

The men and, rarely, women on board a pirate ship sang songs that were called sea shanties to keep themselves alert and entertain themselves on the high seas. The songs ranged from a beautiful poem given life by the pirates singing it in their deep voices that carried across the waters to crude and crass that would make even the toughest of men blush.

2. Watch a lot of Pirate movies:

The culture of talking like a pirate is, truth be told, not that big in India. But that doesn't mean we don't have movies that tell us about pirates. The next point will be a suggestion about which particular TV shows to watch, but as for movies, everyone's favourite Disney pirate Jack Sparrow has given us plenty of material to go on with Pirates of the Carribean.

3. Watch Black Sails:

While the first season might be a little slow on the uptake, Black Sails is definitely a show that you need to watch when it comes to pirate life on the high seas. Their sense of morality (or lack of) and their pirate laws are well shown in the show, and it is a more serious take on the culture of pirates than the many funny movies and cartoons have shown us till date. It's pretty great.

4. Play Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

I love this game. The Assassinations in it are completely boring, but the beauty of this game comes from sailing the high seas and looking for ships to loot. Edward Kenway, the swashbuckling pirate and accidental assassin, along with his ship The Jackdaw take us on an epic adventure across the Carribean, complete with ship battle mechanics, sea shanties, boarding and taking over a ship and looting it dry. If you ever wanted to actually feel like a pirate, this is the game for you.

5. Dress up as a pirate!

Cosplay is big in the country now, so you dressing up as a pirate is not that weird anymore. Celebrate The International Talk Like A Pirate Day by dressing up as an actual pirate and poking people with your fake sword!

"Success"- Everybody needs success. Everyone is running after this seven letter word SUCCESS.Rather than just running after the success defined to us by Google and people around us. We should pause and ask ourselves this question- " What success means to me?"

Success is not just professional. It can be related to personal as well as professional life. A smile on parent's face can be a success for one, getting a promotion maybe success for other. Success ultimately leads you to happiness, satisfaction and peace at the end of the day.

Now, I know that everyone's definition of success is different. What is a success for me may or may not be a success to you, but this throws up an interesting conundrum. What is the correct definition of success? Is my success greater than yours or is yours greater than mine? Should I feel morally superior if I'm happy with where I am with my success or feel discontent because someone else's definition of success was them making a lot of money?

The question of morality, then, comes to the definition of success as well. Maybe your goal is to make a lot of money, maybe your goal is to give away the money you make to charity and make the world a better place, by the very essence, we cannot say all successes are the same.

But the point is that individual success needs to be celebrated and congratulated nonetheless. Merely getting to that position, in itself, is inspiring.

So, rather than just running after theoretical definitions, take a pause ask yourself "Is it what I am running after will lead me to success?"

"}]
It is essential for any human being to have a strong sense of morality, but where does this morality come from?

There are certain things in the world that are, without a doubt, bad. Certain things that, no matter your location, your background and position in life, are something you should not be standing by and watching it happen or creating a condition in which you let this thrive. For situations like these, we can agree that we have to stand up to it no matter which belief system you come from.

But the problem is, this is seemingly difficult in an increasingly sad world. Women get shackled in society's expectations and yet the same people who should stand up to it are the ones scared of the word 'feminism'. Children get exploited every day and yet we are all the more happy to ignore it just so we aren't affected. Poverty erodes away the humanity of those around us and yet Indians have learned to completely ignore poverty.

So desensitised we are to the harsh realities of life, sometimes we actively propagate it. We have convinced ourselves that as long as we are clean and healthy, nobody else matters. We dump garbage on the streets and actively pollute water around the city, because as long as it is not your responsibility, it does not matter, right?

This has to end. We need to stand up for what is right, irrespective of your political, moral and ethical beliefs. I know I will.
"}]
