The concept of education is almost incomprehensible without teachers. The first memory of our school life for most of us is likely that of a teacher. It is often said that teachers are our second parents and it wouldn't be wrong to say so.

Teachers are our first guides. They teach us our first lessons. They are the ones who educate us about morals, ethics and the difference between right and wrong. They are the givers of knowledge. The way teachers teach us might create an interest in the subject. The activities that they organise are responsible not only for teaching us but also add some fun to the mix. Their reprimands might seem a little harsh but are always meant for our betterment. They never shirk from their duties. They are the ones who are responsible for moulding us into responsible human beings.

Like DNA, each teacher is unique. But one thing that is common is their desire to shape the future of the country. Teaching is one of the most thankless jobs. Teachers are some of the most hardworking individuals.Even when we have our holidays, they still work. Students come and go but a teacher is always there.Imagine how many years they spend teaching almost the same thing, correcting the same papers, doing the same tasks relentlessly. And they never expect a thing in return.

So we should always remember that no matter how much we achieve, it is our teachers who are primarily responsible for it. So always treat them with respect and gratitude.
"}]
A few months ago, after overhearing a conversation at a coffee shop, I wrote about how multi-level-marketing (MLM) firms are attempting to woo students into their ponzi schemes, by striking various chords with innocent students. And along these lines, a student from a reputed engineering college in Warangal, contacted us and told us that a 'marketing workshop' was conducted for students at a major hotel in the city and that the workshop aimed at getting students into a ponzi scheme.
Based on what that girl told me, I realised that these people who pitch MLM, basically spew up the same old casette about how this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that is bigger than anything else, as the girl's friend (another student and yet another victim of MLM scams) had told her to attend this session.
At the session, they were presented with much-out-of-context newspaper reports showing how employment opportunities will hit a low point in the coming years and how students need to take up marketing and more to sustain themselves, as the student Apurva* says, "We were shown various presentations and were shown quotes on marketing by prominent people and they went to the extent of showing that the American President, Donald Trump also made his fortune through network marketing." While I wrote about how students should improve their marketing and communication skills to ensure a good career, telling them outrightly that their four years of engineering study is a waste and they need to learn marketing and be marketers is something I couldn't understand.
An interesting point of the entire session was how they tried to validate their statements by showing their FICCI certification, using Trump, sharing their personal experiences on how they made money (by fooling gullible students and youngsters, most probably) and more. "The extent to which they tried to validate themselves itself made me suspicious," says Apurva, adding, "They actually said if they were illegal, they wouldn't be paying taxes and that was a major red light. After the entire presentation was over, they said I need to buy their product worth Rs. 7000 and make two other people buy it and that's how I'll make money."
In addition to monetary earnings, they also showed pictures of various people vacationing in exotic places like Goa and told the workshop participants that these all expense paid trips will also be a part of the benefits of enrolling in the scheme. This is one of the classic baits that MLM firms use, by showing glorious rewards to pull people into the schemes.
"The sad part is, many students I know actually enrolled in this program and are now attempting to make people buy their products. I didn't expect my friends to get into things like this," she shares.
We urged you before and we are urging you now, if you are reading this, please beware of such ponzi schemes. If we think of taking up competitive exams or any entrance exam that would get us through the reputed institution for our masters, we run to enroll ourselves into a coaching institute to score well or at least get through it. Funny story, I had bought the final book of this series, The Crippled God, back in 2012 under the assumption that it was a standalone book, and because the cover looked very high fantasy with is somewhat of a personal preference of mine.

Reading the book on the journey from New Delhi to Hyderabad, I quickly discovered that I was actually reading the final book of a very long series and couldn't make either head or tail of all the complex plotlines presented in the book which, I was sure back then, were carried over from the previous book. However, Erikson had me hooked with his writing style, and while the story presented itself as if I should have already known who they are, I was intrigued enough to go back and read the series from the start. Thus started my journey in Malazan.

If you thought Game of Thrones was complicated, try reading this series in a rush. Erikson, in his first book, Gardens of the Moon, presents a complex and multi-layered world with characters of questionable ethics and morals. In fact, I would encourage you to speak to a friend who has already read this high fantasy series and ask them to list out the characters, see what happens.

I'm obsessed with world building, in the few amateur fantasy short stories scribbled on the back of notebooks in Engineering classes, I've spent more time explaining the world instead of actually focusing on the story, which is also why you'll never see a short story from me, so stop asking. A common problem with world building, however, comes with the fact that the greatest author to do so was J.R.R Tolkien, whose work is so immersive you feel like you're there, walking in Middle-Earth, smelling what he describes and seeing what he wants you to see. This leads to many amateur authors (such as yours truly) focus only on building the world while completely forgetting the fact that Tolkien was also a master at telling the story in the world he built. Erikson, for all the complexity he presents in his books, is the exact opposite of all us amateurs.

The world, which is not named in any of the multiple books that have been published, is meticulously crafted, populated with rabble rousers, innocent civilians, battle-scarred armies and gods who have their own plans for the world.

Erikson struggled to get this book published due to various reasons, however, his struggles paid off when the book did actually release and attracted a cult following. It's storytelling, while unorthodox and sometimes even frustrating, manages to hold the reader's interest long enough to keep you turning pages for the entire night. In some ways, the series being complete is sort of a boon to readers today, as you can finish Book 1 and immediately move to Book 2, which also means you will remember the multiple plot threads and stories present within this world.

The Malazan Book of the Fallen is a story that stretches for thousands of years, over multiple time periods, employs the use of high magic and can be quite mind blowing. It is always a pleasure to read great High Fantasy, a good book is an essential tool, a great book is a world you can escape into, live where the author wants you to live and fly across the plot effortlessly. Isn't that why people read high fantasy, for the escapism and the wonder?

When I was a little kid, I used to love climbing trees. No tree was too rough, high or difficult. I was an arboreal creature, coming back home to the ground only to eat and sleep. When I got bored with my feet not touching the ground, I got my cycle out and went all around the quarters I lived in, stopping by every attractive tree. My hands reflected that. They had blisters all over the place, were tough, strong and hard. I had hands that could do stuff and it showed.

It was the same with my legs. Now I don't understand how I could've hurt myself so often, but my kneecaps were scraped raw, I had a couple healed or healing scars on my shins and my soles were so tough I could walk barefoot on a forest floor and not feel a thing. I had legs that could do stuff and it showed.

I never thought about it though; I was always the mean point of my standards. It all changed one day at school when I heard this girl tell someone that I had boy hands that were rough and unattractive. It made me stop and wonder: Were hands not supposed to be like this? I started noticing that other girls' hands were soft and delicate and pink. I wondered if mine were supposed to be like that too and decided to try to fit in.

I stopped climbing trees and only went cycling when it was extremely necessary. My hands started to get softer and lose its dead skin. My legs started to heal and grow scabs. My body was stuck midway between two phases, just like my mind was, and I was uncomfortable.

Slowly over time, holding myself back became too much work and I forgot all about it. My hands became rough again and my soles became like a nomad's again. I could do stuff and it showed. I was happy.
"}]
The first ever salary I ever got, I bought my mother a saree, and I bought myself this watch. I didn't make much, but it was worth the hole I was burning in my pocket, I spent nearly the entire month extremely frugally, but was happy for the entire month anyway because why wouldn't I be, I had bought this watch and my mother was really happy with the surprise gift.

Obviously it goes without saying that I love this watch for what it is, a sturdy and durable piece of beautiful craftsmanship that is the trademark of every Edifice device. While it is not a chronograph, the build of the watch and its look more than make up for the cost of the device. Here's our review!

Very rarely does a device manage to look better than the promotional pictures used to sell it, but that's not the case with this watch. It's perhaps one of the very few products I can find that manages to look better than it does in the picture. It's metallic body and shine will attract eyes to its dials, and the dials are beautiful, to say the least. I've had the watch for 4 years now, and its still going strong, as shiny as the day I first opened it. Almost.

The blue (forgive me for not knowing the exact name of the colour) dial grabs eyeballs and is a great conversation starter, and while the stone black background color scheme might make it a little difficult to read the time at first, especially if you're coming from a digital watch (which I was).

The watch is also water resistant, I could happily go for swims wearing this, and the device specification talks about the watch being Water resistant for 100M, which usually means the change in pressure. It is, however, recommended that you do not take your watch along with you for a swim, as a tiny gasket inside it protects your watch from permanent water damage. Even though this is a sturdily built watch, even a small mistake with water can cause damage, so be aware.

It is not without its cons, however. The dial does a poor job in shining in the dark, and it only shines its brightest when you move from brightly lit outdoors to dark interiors. The more light it absorbs, the shinier it gets, and that is not always the case in the nights where light source might not be an option. A poor show for a watch as expensive as this.

However, it is still a damn good product and a perfect gift for your friend or loved on. The scratch proof surface, like every other marketing term, is not actually scratch proof, but at first glance you never notice them. The scratches are basically only noticeable when you pay close attention to the watch.

Final thoughts:

I love this watch, it has served me well all these years and I'm quite proud of buying it on my own with no help from my parents. I wear it as a symbol of what I can achieve, so it holds emotional value. However, despite that, I would still say if you want a Chronograph and can afford to spend a little more, Edifice has an impressive range of Chronographs and look absolutely amazing. However, if you don't want an excellent looking watch with a Chronograph and would settle with a sturdy and well built one, you could always go for this one.
