What is the greatest fear in all of humankind? What is the fear that invokes in us a sense of urgency, thrill and dread all together? It is the fear of the unknown. The unknown scares us so much, that we may, well before it arrives become slaves to self-oppression and depression. It makes us see the often unnoticed areas of our lives. The areas we moslty overlook. The grey areas. These get refocused in our visions when the fear of unknown creeps in, just like a sea vessel venturing out in the uncharted waters. A ship lost in the vast never ending territory. When a ship is set sail, it is before hand, set to sail in a direction which will eventually take it to the intended destination. But as things sometimes tend to go awry, a gust of mischievous wind hits the ship's masts and sends them in another direction. Now the course of the ship has changed. It is heading into a "no" direction. Headed towards an unknown path. Headed to the unknown.

Slowly the fear of of unknown builds itself up. The captain is shocked. He immediately tries to come back to the path he was sailing on. Was it the right? The left? Backward? A bit forward perhaps? Which way was he travelling on before?

He looks around and finds water on all sides. Going right, left and forward are his only options now but how does he do it? Everywhere it's the same. Sea and more sea. He chooses finally to go forward. One question lingers in his mind now, "What lies ahead?". Thus the fear of unknown deepens.

It's roots clutching his heart now. He becomes driven by emotions. Lost in the middle of the sea with no direction, no path to follow on, no one to guide him home he thinks of his family, his friends whether or not he'll be able to see them again. His heart swirls in chaos, screaming for a way out of this unintended and doubtful quagmire. He looks at his crew on-board. All as uncertain as himself waiting on him to be certain again, to take control of the ship again afterall it's his job isn't it?

The responsibility of their lives weighs him down. Putting on a fake braveness, unsure, he gives out his commands. The crew gain their confidence back because if the captain is so sure then who are they to question him? The ship resumes its activities and all is forgotten. Now the captain carries the sole wieght of all the collective fears of his crew members. The fear is multiplied. Since he cannot ask, counsel with, be advised by anyone of his crew he goes onward with his decision.

He's burdened with fear, responsibilty, guilt and when one cannot express himself at all, he becomes mentally irrational. The stems of the fear of unknown branching its way into his mind, taking control. He becomes adamant, angry and agitated. But all this he cannot express freely to his crew, who are diligently carrying out their chores and are unbothered. He hides his feelings in fear of disturbing their calmness.

When he sees up, he sees a sea full of raging waves, full of different directions, many rights and many lefts but each not definitive of being his lost path he once was travelling on. But when the crew look up they see their captain, standing tall and deteremined, his head held high. They see a promise, they see faith but what they cannot see is that their captain is holding his head high only to see if he can remember which way he came from and which way to go.

Oh the variations of perceptions in the same plane of sight.

As to all those wondering why I elaborated on and on about a ship and a scared captain is because all of us engineers are the captain, the crew our parents and friends, the ship - our life, the sea? Yes you guessed it right! The sea is engineering and finally the mysterious gusts of wind are our lovely and very much dreaded backlogs.

"}]

Despite having a loving family, I can't help but feel severely disconnected with them. With a difference in opinion about nearly everything in my life, including what I can do with my own body, I just don't find myself having anything in common with my family to discuss and talk about. In fact, when they spout their often regressive views, I find myself keeping quiet because I do not want to embarrass them in front of everyone.

This makes family time a very discomforting affair, at least, for me.

It really brings into question that equation of self-respect. Should you stand up to your parents for your principles or let them talk against the beliefs you hold so dear just because everyone else in the room is just as regressive? I usually walk out, of course, when there are guests, but my parents know my boundaries. It often makes me wonder if they do this on purpose.

Nonetheless, there are certain events that you simply cannot walk out of and have to be there no matter what. For such events, I've learned the art of redirecting conversations and completely misleading anyone who tends to make a really stupid argument. If that is not possible, however, I just stare into my phone and pretend I'm not listening.

Now, I know using your phone when there's people around is rude, but what other choice do I have? I definitely don't want to start a conversation and be called everything from anti-national to communist in the same minute, the level of discourse in this country has degraded to such a point that even our parents are susceptible to putting labels and reducing anyone they disagree with to something sub-human. No wonder India is an authoritarian wet dream.

So, I've learned to shut up and listen. It is important for us to listen to understand and then reply instead of just listening to reply. That breeds conflict, and conflict brings catastrophe.

If anything, researching and reading more about the world and listening to their arguments has only made my beliefs stronger. I've given up arguing on Facebook pages and my own timeline, but trust me when I say this, I am still here, I'm still listening, I'm still watching, and I will stand up for what is right if push comes to shove.

But at the end of the day, despite the uncomfortable discussions and the other assorted formalities, family time is still quite important as it brings everyone together, even those with opposing views. Family is, after all, quite important.
"}]
We have evolved and adapted several new cultures. Social evils are banished. This is a modern India, a socially developed country. But there are several aspects that need change and attention.

Public opinion towards “public display of affection” requires an enormous change. Why public display of affection is considered as an obscenity and some sort of annoyance?

Some news channel acquired a CC TV footage of two people kissing in an elevator of some metro station, and highlighted it with a hateful headline. Making it easy to some moral policing vigilante organisations to use the footage as a bait. But this also reinforces the fact that on what grounds did the Hyderabad metro let the news channel possess the footage. Should we consider it as morality?

Yes, it is a punishable offense when it comes to kissing if it creates resentment in the minds of people. They will be able to press charges against you.

If nobody cares about it, then you’re free to go. It depends on the judgement of people. Several police officers are misusing this section and tormenting innocent lives.

We see people carrying out rallies about traffic rules, it conveys the message that we should be aware of traffic environment. Similarly, when we see two people kissing, it conveys the message that they love each other. There’s nothing to be annoyed of. It shouldn’t create resentment in the minds of people. Love has to be spread all over.

Talking about Indian culture.

Celebrating new year on January 1st isn’t a part of Indian culture, cutting cakes on birthdays is not a part of Indian culture. There are several other things we Indians follow which aren’t a part of our culture. But when it comes to Valentine’s day, we see several claims about it not being a part of our culture. We can see the paradox here.

It is high time moral policing has abolished in our country. These vigilante organisations are outlaw organisations. They do not have any right to take the law into their hands. Several innocent lives have been put at stake by these vigilante organisations. But nothing has been changed yet.

Every year there are several reports about Valentine’s day issues. And several news channels telecast these issues considering them as a humorous subject.

Its time people should stand against moral policing, its time people should put an end to the political support these organisations receive. And it’s time we celebrate love and affection.

"}]
IEEE Computer Society chapter under IEEE Hyderabad Section organized a half-day Workshop on Digital Reality on May 11, 2019 at Plaza Hotel, Begumpet on the eve of National Technology Day. Digital reality is generally defined as the wide spectrum of technologies and capabilities that digitally simulate the reality in one way or the other across most of the senses, inhere in AR, VR, MR, 360° video, and the immersive experience, enabling simulation of reality in various ways. I have always been looking for miracles in my life;

but it took me some time to realize,

that because of you, my life on this earth began as a miracle.

The biggest miracle of my life,

was when you brought me into this world,

and gave me such a wonderful family.

God has sent me to you as a gift,

but, as a boon, he gave you to me.

Whether I'm in pain or in sorrow,

you would never fail to realize it,

even before the blink of an eye.

I know very well, that every tear I shed,

is nothing less than a new thorn piercing your heart.

Just as you can't see me in pain,

even I can't bear to see you in pain.

Our love for each other is strong enough,

to keep you and me happy forever.

That is why,

I want to promise,

that I would never give a chance for any thorn to wander near you!

I love you mom! <3
"}]
Mothers are the greatest beings of all time. They shower us with all the unconditional love no matter how bad the situation is and will be there right by your side when something goes wrong.

The unrequited love of theirs is what keeps us going. It is literally so pure that you can't possibly imagine losing it. Everything changes for a woman when she realizes that she is going to be a mom in no time. The motherly spirit surrounds and wraps her like a blanket. Then pain and hardships she takes to just make us grow within the womb and develop into perfectly good babies. Then, the real struggle comes when she has to give birth. Labor pain is something which is so painful that it is almost having an intensity of breaking forty fives bones together as whole just to listen to the beautiful cries when we are welcomed to the world. The tiring wait of nine months finally comes to an end. She greets us with so much of love and happiness that it actually brings her tears of joy.She will remember every moment until the end of time and she takes endless efforts so that she can witness their child growing into one of the best. Every mother dreams of their child making it big. No matter how fat you're they just want to make you eat more because they know you'll eat when they shower you with love, if they don't happen to say so then you're probably adopted. No matter how dorky you look for your school or college picture she will always cheer you up saying you looked the best out of the whole lot. Toiling in the kitchen every day to make the perfect meal so that when we return back home we get the result to an end of a good day! No matter how sad or low you're she just understands you by the emotions or the expressions all over your face and will crack a joke to cheer you up so that you burst into laughter. No matter how old we get and when we turn into parents we realize the hardships that they faced and you'll love them even more. Don't be angry at them or yell at them for something they said because as long as they are our parents they're forced to say their opinions no matter what. Don't ditch them in the middle of the road because they said something harshly, always learn to forgive and forget as these were the first lessons taught as moral values by her itself.

Here's a shout out to all the moms out there. You all are the greatest human beings of all time and we have so much faith in you and you mold us into better human beings. Thank you for being the greatest part of my life.
"}]
I know telling students to take care of their health and eat properly, especially before an exam, is a futile attempt because no matter how much I tell them to chill and prepare in advance, y'all are still gonna disappoint yourselves and start panicking at the last minute, pulling all nighters and somehow scrapping by and feeding yourself absolute trash while surviving on junk food and tons of coffee. Well, at least that's what I did. I didn't say I was not a hypocrite.

But trust me, I've attained exam nirvana and I now know that what we eat is extremely important before an exam. There's variety of reasons why, ranging from the nutrients in the food helping your brain retain more like that brain expanding meme that everyone likes these days, to the simple fact that if you don't eat properly, you'll end up making yourself sick and there is nothing worse than studying when sick. Being sick is when you get to watch Lord of the Rings on repeat and complain about the weather.

Okay here's the thing. The reason fast food is called fast food is because it is fast to make and serve. It is, however, not fast to digest and can turn your stomach for the worse and not even give you the proper nutrients that you need. Many students go off into the deep end when it comes to exams and survive purely on junk food and coffee and that is not at all healthy and leaves you walking around like the Walking Dead except in this season you have to face a far deadlier enemy: your exam paper. It is unhealthy and can be dangerous to the body.

Luckily, the average human body can take a lot of abuse, which it goes through anyway silently because human beings are incredibly terrible of taking care of ourselves. It frankly shocks me how we even evolved past the Palaeolithic era with the kind of nonsense we pull in this day and age.

Here's a suggestion though, eat a lot of greens. The greener they are, the richer in minerals and vitamins they are. This goes for any vegetables and some meat as well, ,the redder to the darker they are, the more protein rich. Remember that protein is often burned up if meat is cooked for a while so you're left mostly with just fat that makes you slow and stupid, so grill your chicken if you have to and eat that. No chicken legs either, that's just fat and it's useless to you unless you're juicing and building muscle. Also something you should be doing, if not for the sweet aesthetics, but for the non-verbal cue of saying you can take care of yourself.

Have you ever had steamed spinach? It is horrendous but the benefit you get from it in return of the taste is tremendous, which is why it's one of my favourite veggies to eat. You should check it out and see what you can gain from it.

Don't forget that eating for your exams is not the same as eating for weight loss or eating for building muscle. You still need your carbs because carbs are the fuel for your body. Carbs are what you eat the night before you run a big marathon, lots of em so that you may burn it during the run. Similarly, keep your rice diet under control but don't completely forgo it.

Frankly, once you get the hang of knowing what to eat and what not to eat, it becomes fun to plan your week of meals and go about it. It's a useful skill to pick up for life but you can start by planning your meals and study periods for the run up to your exams.

There'll be more articles about this, I'm not done with you guys just yet.
"}]

As I scrolled my way down the WhatsApp inbox, the stroll down the memory lane was filled with broken threads - broken threads of conversation and broken strings of relationships. Abrupt conversations, relations that needed repair, awkward emojis and wrongly-timed wishes filled the chats. Now I realise how important these chats actually were.

txt
rich_1534225311704

Today when your reply to a message solely decides your virtue, how reckless I have been! How laid back I was, thinking that there would be an opportunity to talk and sort it out! How silly I was, to realise there wasn't going to be a chance to 'set things right'.

txt
rich_1534225311705

It was all now dictated by pixel graphics and virtual messages. Prioritising now means choosing 'one chat over another'. Privacy now means 'selective display'. You could now only read chats, not minds. In Science where a user is considered completely separate and exclusive of a computer system, in today's communication, the system is the user. A robot could have been on the other end, chatting. (Though many pride themselves on being able to recognize others using 'chatting patterns') Not to mention the distress of those of us who spent half our childhood learning to write in Cursive and to develop what our teachers call 'legible handwriting'. Etiquette has anyway lost it's place. Grammar is obviously shunned out of picture.

txt
rich_1534225311706

Curiously, when finally people of the world communicate with each other so easily today, communication lost its meaning. Language and other concerns set aside, getting back to what still intrigues me is how human relations are tethered on to Ethernet cables. How a chat could save your day or a hasty reply could ruin everything, how deals are made and broken on Clouds, how people are hired and fired over voice calls, how friendship is determined by the number of groups you share or by the number of hours you are online. How everything is getting so transparent it's almost showy, like a solid dissolving into a crystal glass.

txt
rich_1534225311707

How awkward I felt the other day when I met my friend two years after we parted ways at high-school's end. I couldn't see eye to eye and yet almost every week we chatted on WhatsApp. I read, heard and imagined that person who texted me every time, but how different people are from their virtual selves!! How nice and 'human' people look, when you see them out of their WhatsApp accounts, Facebook pages and Insta suites.! How pleasing it is to be able to look into their eyes and talk and inturn see their senses move in response. To see their eyes rather than emojis, to listen to their voice in the High Definition of reality, to read the thoughts that would whir in their head and to be actually able to touch - the very essence and expression of human emotion - touch them. How replies reach almost immediately and there's no network problem! How suddenly and soothingly humanness consoles.

To know that you are talking to someone so like you and not typing like a maniac into mute devices, aching for replies that would never come if it were not for electronic signals. Jotting down plans on papers rather than virtual pads, so that you are actually planning things. Poring over that old letter that your mum wrote, feeling that once their warm hands actually moved over the paper, filling love in letters. Cherishing autographs of heroes you worshipped in teenage and desperately trying to capture in your mind's eye, that one moment you got to see them up close, lest you forget it. Making mental notes of all names in a detective story. Mentally 'recording' those moments of time spent together. The closeness of not having a camera, as you had to 'feel' it not 'capture' it.

txt
rich_1534225311708

The secretly guilty peace you feel when your network is unavailable or phone gets switched off, that at least now that notifications won't kill you for that minute. Alas, so I thought. That I could set things right. But all this is a rainy midnight's dream. It'll be washed away by Monsoon. Morning will dawn on me, I will have to connect again. And there won't be another chance to explain. All I have to do is cherish every moment I can with real flesh or just probably type myself out like a maniac into a mute machine that can't think for itself. Indeed, humans have gone and devolved( de-evolved) into humanoids.
"}]
No matter how particular you are about your workout or on-time-sleep schedule, you have some bad eating habits just like everyone else. Here are five ways to help you calm down your craving monsters or simply bad food habits.

1. Have a meal plan:

Planning what to eat or cook each day is a tough task. Everyone enjoys change and variety but that is what breaks the super-strong-enthusiasm in you to stick to healthy eating. Sticking to a proper meal and following it with utter seriousness makes you gain control of overall food intake. If there is no plan, people tend to fall for the delicious mouth-watering treats that are sugar-candy to eye but not so appropriate in terms of health maintenance.

2. Clean your Kitchen:

Did you know that just by being in a messy kitchen makes you carve for food? According to a study, researchers did a live test of craving measures on people which did prove to a maximum amount that a filled-up and messy kitchen makes you want to eat more.

3. Turn off the TV:

You don’t just eat with your eyes focused on your meal but also with your ears. A recent study states that sound of eating food affects our eating habit. These days it has become a trend to watch television or listen to music while eating to probably save on time which does not help you focus on what you eat and how much you eat. People tend to eat extra something as they have their eyes and ears glued to television screens.

4. Change your plate size:

When you eat from a bigger plate you tend to fill it with more food to avoid the food to look smaller than plate size. It sounds stupid but is just a part of natural human nature. Eating from small plate makes you think you have eating a lot even though you haven’t which helps prevent overeating.

5. Find your motivation:

There is always a reason behind cutting out on your favourite junky dishes and follow a not-so-likable diet. It may be an upcoming class reunion, a beach vacation, or a family wedding. The problem arises when these motivations end with a date. Later people jump back to being on normal junky diet and become the same unhealthy person they were prior to that diet. Look for long term motivations that keep you steady and firm on your decision to stay fit and healthy.
