Recovery is hard, regret is harder.

It's no secret that teenagers are risk-takers who don't always recognize the consequences of their actions. Cannabis is the most common illegal drug used by teenagers, with around one in five having tried it at least once. Parents worry a lot about their child becoming dependent on drugs, such as methamphetamines (speed and ice), ecstasy, heroin, and cocaine.

The youth today are more confused, more rebel, more emotionally troubled and less idealistic.

There are no much stronger reasons for a student to get drug-addicted but most of them include curiosity, stress, peer pressure, emotional struggles and moreover, a desire to escape.

Statics reveal that deaths caused by drugs and smoking exceeds those caused by aids and accidents. Youth that is involved in drug abuse are led into a criminal life. Teens addicted to drugs try to exhibit high-risk behaviors like violence, destruction of property, poor performance in studies and profound health issues such as:

-> Brain damage

-> Lung diseases

-> Loss of appetite

-> Abnormal heart rate and even heart strokes

-> Problems with memory and decision making

-> Death

International day against drug abuse is celebrated on 26th June of every year. Preventive measures include increasing social competence, strengthening personal commitments against drugs and family members are instructed to observe their teens and stay in touch with their friends and notice the changes in the behavior and to take necessary preventive measures.

Drug addiction is not only a sickness but also a crime. One person may addict and the whole family including society suffers. "If you can quit for a day, you can quit for a lifetime".

While the climate of Hyderabad is not as bad as it gets up in North India, winters here can be pretty bad. Though December 2019 is being considered to be a warm winter in comparison to the previous years, the temperature plummeted to 14°C in the last week of December. Now that is cold enough to make us want to huddle up in our hoodies and blankets with a cup of hot chocolate at home but there are many, who are not fortunate enough to be able to afford even a basic shelter over their heads. According to some surveys, the number of homeless people in Hyderabad is around 1500 while the true number could be way higher. Homelessness in conjunction with low temperatures like that can even lead to deaths. That is the sad reality.

However, a bunch of students from Guru Nanak Institution, associated with the Street Cause chapter of that college, decided to take it up into their own hands and do their part to protect the homeless from the bitter cold. In the last week of December, these students went around the city, scouting for homeless people and gave them blankets to ensure they have minimal warmth at the very least.

28 students spent two nights covering LB Nagar, Nagole, Uppal, Boduppal, Secunderabad, Malakpet, Old City, Habsiguda, Tarnaka, Mettuguda and more and scouted for homeless people sleeping under the bridges and on footpaths, ending up distributing 330 blankets.

While it seems like an easy thing to do, just buying blankets and distributing them to the needy, it wasn't the case as they had to raise over Rs. 12950 to buy whose blankets and they had to scout for the needy. Nevertheless, they have proven it once again that if students want to do something, they do it no matter the odds.
"}]
New semester is always exciting especially when it starts in New Year. Everyone around us is happy, cheerful and music of joy is heard everywhere. Students including me are determined to achieve our goals. We make many promises based on our past semester, hoping to make things better this time.

We take resolutions to study well, look at life from a different angle and most importantly gain knowledge of our field. In the beginning, everything goes well. We get to class on time, attend all the classes, do our daily assignments and submit records in time. Apart from academics, we also look for new opportunities. We try internships, volunteer for college programs and many more. We find it very interesting and exciting.

Unfortunately, this doesn't last long. A wave of demotivation hits everyone. We fail to keep up our promises. Our focus on studies slowly diverts, our notes are incomplete, assignments are not submitted on time, proxy becomes life saver and everything just mounts one over the other. We get fed up and soon find ourselves chilling on a canteen bench with our friends (of course bunking classes).

No matter whether it is college or life, the struggle is real. We constantly strive to make ourselves better each day but only a few of us succeed. To all those who couldn't make it last semester, don't get disappointed. We have entered into another semester and here's our chance.

But this time, let's take a different approach. I think we constantly fail because we try to accomplish so many things at once. So, this time let us sign up for one thing from which one cannot withdraw. There should be no escape rooms. No matter how hard it gets, we will stick to it and make it our superpower.

Hopefully, this semester we see our dreams come to life.

Many students consistently strive hard to make our society a better place to live in. They volunteer at different places, start NGOs, work hard with under-privileged students and more. They go above and beyond what they are required to do by their college or their families to ensure they contribute towards making this society better.

As the National Youth Day is coming up in a week, stuMagz has initiated this writing contest in an attempt to recognise these students.

If you are such a student, write about yourself and write about what you are doing. If you know a student who is working hard for the society, write about that person and let their story be known. We're sure you have at least one friend who works for something like this, so tell their story.

When student's enter to degree level they will start experiencing the semester system .Most of the institute's and universities in India follow the semester system as it improves the quality of education.Let me give a small description about semester system.Semester pattern ,choice- based credit system and a revamped syllabus, with focus on improving employability skills,are being introduced for degree level. A semester system is an academic tern that divides an academic year into two terms or parts.The word semester literally means six- month period.

txt

1.The greatest advantage of this system is that it reduces the load on the students and inculcated regular study habits. 2. Since academic year is divided into two semester's it provides upward mobility- the student can clear the backlog in one or many subjects even after moving to the next semester. 3. Best part is that it enables the students to learn at their own pace. 4. Well if you compare it to an annual system, it keeps students busy all year round with the same level of burden instead of the more work at the end of the year. 5. In semester system, student all time attach with study.studies which is good for the students. 6. The main advantage of semester system. Student busy all the year.

txt

ADVANTAGES OF SEMESTER SYSTEM : 1. It will provide an opportunity to the students for continuous learning ,assessment and feedback. 2. It facilitates a better understanding of the subject. 3. More emphasis is laid on class interaction because of constant engagement between teachers and students. 4. This system improves regular study habits among the students.

txt

DISADVANTAGES OF SEMESTER SYSTEM :1.Semester system faces inadequacy of time.Most of the times teachers fail to complete the syllabus in time.Students who join late will face lot of difficulties to catch the subject and complete the revision. 2. Semester system increases the workload as the evaluation process is conducted twice a year.

txt

Everyone is looking for the magic pill to success, the single key to success..... But the truth is, there isn't one key, there are many.

The keys are hardwork, dedication, determination, believing in yourself when no one else does.

The key is getting out of comfort zone and pushing yourself into difficulties.

The key is sacrificing your today for better tomorrow.

The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear.

There is no shortcut towards success, you have to take the stairs of hard work.

No successful person ever got what he wanted by simply waiting around. The only way you can ensure success is by doing something about it. You need to work on your goals to achieve them. When you focus on what you want everything falls away. Stay focused on whatever you want to do and don't doubt yourself. Focus means you have to follow one course until you are successful. Stop getting distracted by the things that nothing to do with your goals.

True success means understanding your dreams and working joyfully to make those dreams come true.

The person who is working hard is able to gain happiness in life. Nothing is easy to be achieved in life without doing hard work.

The Edison worked for 21 hours a day and he sleeps only for 2-3 hours on the laboratory tables with his books as his pillow. The prime minister of India late Pt. Nehru, he worked for 17 hours a day and 7 days a week. There were no holidays in his calendar. The Mahatma Gandhi worked ceaselessly day and night and he won freedom for his country. The hard work is a price that we pay for success in the life.

"SUCCESS DOESN'T COME TO YOU, YOU GO TO IT."

If you are really committed with your dreams, nothing can stop you from tasting success. Success is a journey which continues even after the goal is achieved.

I hope all your endeavors in 2020 are successful and be the best year of your life.
"}]
People with disabilities have a tough life, or so it seems to everyone. But going by how some people don’t let their disabilities disable them, it is amazing how passion makes them succeed. Whether it is a physical disability or visual impairment, we hear many stories of a person overcoming all odds through sheer grit and determination to reach pinnacle of success in life. Today, i.e. January 4, is World Braille Day and stuMagz spoke to a student of Indian School of Business (ISB) who is visually challenged and is also a singer.

For the student, Shravya Kanithi, the disability was never even a factor in her way to achieving what she wanted to, as she says, “I was blind from birth. I have 100% blindness and because of that, I never even regretted being blind as this is all I know. I did have issues in my early life as what took 5 minutes for an average student to grasp took me way longer as hearing was my only form of taking in but I didn't let it disable me in any way.”

Shravya graduated with a B.Com degree from St. Francis and last year, she quit her job as a trainer at Uber and is currently pursuing a PGP course in ISB. In addition to her excellence in academics, she is a trained singer who released a music video last year.

Having joined the Indian School of Business in April 2019, Shravya is the first and the only visually challenged student of that institution and in the few months that she has been there, she has already made significant achievements, as she is now the president of the Women in Business Club of that institution.

Apart from this, she is also working on initiatives of inclusivity for differently abled students and foreign students, as she explains, "So far, there has never been a visually challenged student at ISB and that is the reason there is no infrastructure that enables a visually challenged student. That is why I am working to ensure small aspects like Braille stickers and devices to enable students to read books in the library are set up in the institution," shares Shravya.

Another initiative that she is currently working on will enable visually challenged students to learn in a better manner in classes by enabling the teaching faculty. For this, her method is to create a set of guidelines or a playbook of sorts for the faculty to make disabled-friendly presentations to ensure visually challenged students learn easily.

Shravya was a recipient of stuMagz 25 Under 25 award last year and we wish her the best in the years to come.
"}]
Having uneasiness at the very first days of college is the first quality you build being a student. No wonder why many people call the first day of college as "The nightmare of every student".
