From my point of view, that institutional casteism exists despite representational politics, even in liberal spaces. I have seen supposed left members who vehemently oppose cultural standards beings used as a part of representational affirmative actions because according to their analogy these things are “just cultural” and don’t play into the trope of class war. The General students are usually angry at these students as well, because they seem as people who take away the chance of other “more deserving” General students. We have seen those memes everywhere, the General student presented with huge hurdles, the SC/ST students getting a free pass.

So, why does this institutional violence exist. What stands in the way of heterogeneity when it comes to our understanding of our fellow students? What are the ideas that drive these principles? Whenever we try to drive into these things, the issue of reservation crops up, and here we can discuss that actually, is representation killing Dalit students? Why not a meritocracy? Why not something that gives representation to lower income strata?

Why not Meritocracy?

The meritocracy question is difficult to answer perhaps in terms of society. Our society is not homogeneous, we cannot treat them to a similar sort of experiments and receive the similar output every single time. This is because we are not only ourselves, but, also products of the society that surrounds us. However, this changes as we move from the villages to the city.

To the rosy-eyed teenager, everything looks similar in the city. The people are all having the same privilege. What escapes us that the opportunities we get are not shared with a lot of other people. And again, a Dalit student brought up in a family of people who got into job as soon as they could, would be more likely to do the same, no matter their potential, or what the job is? Our drive to do anything is influenced by the society we live in. Thus, you are more likely to seek government jobs if your parents are government servant.

Herein, general students, with a long lineage of parents who have had academic qualifications and other things have an advantage. Their instinct is towards studying more, their stability is defined by higher education, versus, the Dalit student who only sees the working class people around him and does not think or is motivated by anything else.

Class Based Representation

In a huge strata of society, every worker is not equal, except in the perhaps their oppression by the higher classes through institutional means. The society finds new ways to oppress them, no matter the way it is created. The life of black student in America cannot be equated with that of a white student, the life of a Dalit student cannot be equated with that of a Brahmin one.

There is a problem though, this representational politics seems to be only helping the higher paid Dalits. However, that is not the fault of these people themselves, but, of individual gain that drives most of our work these days. So, the richer offspring does not pass information onto the poorer strata of Dalits, and their institutional oppression continues while, we see the rosy pictures of SC/ST students getting a scots free education.

However, grouping together of an entire class into a bracket creates a problem. We can see the statistics of how regional politics drives school and higher education enrollment, we can see how it changes.
Does Representation Kill?
It doesn’t.
We need to examine the fact that our educational system derives this unheard of joy from the oppression of students in the name of respectability. This respect itself is a product of society, and the society here is tilted badly for the Dalit students. So, when it comes to people who are Dalits, their inability to grasp English (due to never being educated in the medium), their inability to grasp some concepts (never being introduced to the things first hand), all play a part in this.
It appears that the promise of representation is a hollow one, it creates a space for faces, but, it does not give room for those faces to improve. The false dichotomy between what is respectable for a student and what is not, itself creates a divide, and hence, the last argument comes into play. That of hate increasing due to reservation, this is true. Hate does increase in any case of representational politics.
However, this needs to be followed up too, the problem isn’t affirmative action but, our assumptions themselves, which are inevitably coming from a space of bias. This needs to be worked out in terms of society .

For now, I can only plead, see your neighbor and respect and love him. Do not play into the hands of society, though you inevitably will. Understand the problems, understand where we stand before playing a flute that oppresses your fellow man, you know you’re better than that. Do not create another suicide.

'Devonyes', meaning "Years of Excellence", is the official dance crew of Sreenidhi that has been standing strong since 2010.

The club had been initiated with a team of less than 5, with no space to call their club's own, the founders of the club strived for the crew and built a strong reputation of independency for themselves.

After putting in tremendous amounts of efforts, the crew now looked united in every way possible.

They reminisce the good times they had, they are even thankful for all the hardships they had, because hadn't it been for all those hard times, they wouldn't have come together to be where they were.

It all started off when a student with immense love for dance decided to form a crew on their own, disappointed that the college didn't already have one. He then happened to meet people with similar interests as him. And he, for one, knew that his dream would now slowly be turning into reality.

After gaining accolades from people in and out of the college, a few now began envying them.

People were now requesting to join the crew, the team had never expected to gain momentum in such a short span of time. They were more than happy to welcome anybody who loved the same things they did. Times passed, they proudly represented their college on national level events. And much to their please, they won most of them.

This is how Devonyes began to be known as the Official Crew of the college.

This is the seventh successful year of the crew's existence. Freshmen now audition to be a part of the crew. The number of crew members have considerably grown ever since. With every academic year that follows, the freshmen try their best to keep up with their seniors from the crew. The members say that they've not only brushed up their dance skills but have also learnt to incorporate team working skills into their everyday lives, all thanks to Devonyes. They say that they've learnt the importance of understanding Team Dynamics only because of the crew they're a part of. They now know how important it is to keep their fellow team-mate's wills and wishes in mind and carry about tasks relating to the team.

And they believe, such thoughts of mutual understanding will forever help them in their lives in the future.

It was the gilded, golden sanded beach where I stood with my feet sunk deep into the granules of sand. It was all still yet moving. There was something which kept triggering me, as if I had lost something or gained something which had hidden something which was mine in me.

These thoughts were not new to me, ever since the day I had started having a closer look into my life. The sole constant thing that was left in me was my heartbeat, 72 times in a minute!

Even though everything was changing in my life there was one thing which remained the same, the constant winds of change. The waves lashed not just the rocks but also the shore of my conscience, and make me realize that I had lost the truth which I had held up all these times.

The change is inevitable, no one can escape it. Be it nature, be it time, be it you or be it me, everything has been changing. Then why is that we realize that things are changing but not able to restore what has changed over times. Had it been possible to restore all of them then the life could have gone through the hyperloop of soft and smooth ways.

It is evident that life tends to change more with the growing years. The more you grow, the more you feel the change. The more you experience the reality of life the more are the changes you tend to endured?

You cannot escape them but sometimes crave for a bench by a sea and a pondering mood to ponder over the times you have been through. And ponder if there’s a paradox standing between the truth and you!
"}]

The question on whether art can be defined or not is still hotly debated to this day, however, in the words of Andy Warhol, "Art is anything you can get away with," so the question still remains. Art is something that has the potential to speak with individuals on a personal level. One such art form, called Surrealist Collages, incorporates the use of surrealism, which has been described as something out of an inexplicable dream. While there are not many artists who make surrealist collages, we catch up with a young student who not only makes collages, but also got to show off his work in Bulgaria. Surrealism itself is a pretty new concept to the world of art, beginning in the 1920s, according to wikipedia, since then, it has slowly spread across the world but is yet to find itself pushed into the mainstream world of art.
