One of the more unfortunate side effects of the information age was the rapid spreading of fake news to create a narrative that pits people against one another, which suits political agendas. Winston Churchill was quoted saying 'A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on', and today, years later, the words still ring true.

In November, the Oxford Dictionary announced the word 'post-truth' as the word of the year, highlighting a dangerous trend in politics across the world, not just in the United States but in India as well. Post-Truth Politics (click here to read about it) refers to political beliefs than pander more to the emotions rather than policy, where truth takes secondary precedence as emotions and fears rule the formation of opinions rather than logic. Basically, the forwards you keep seeing in family Whatsapp groups, and that's just one part of it.

India is no stranger to fake news. Beat the summer heat by travelling to new places and experiencing a different culture! Of course, most of us will be more than happy to sit and home and sleep it off (which frankly is my favourite activity), but travelling is amazing and puts kilometres on your soul, gives you new perspectives and opens up tonnes of possibilities in understanding the people of India, so why wouldn't you do it? Here's a list of places you can travel to this summer.

1. Manali, Himachal Pradesh

A favourite of many college time North Indian trips, Manali is beautiful and cool in the summers. Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, Manali is a lush green town popular with tourists from across the country. It is also the first stop on the way to the greater Himalayas, where adventure and beautiful vistas await.

2. Auli, Uttarakhand

Auli, also nestled in the Himalayas, is a beautiful little ski resort. It becomes completely snow capped in the winter months and is a pleasant experience in the summers. It's beautiful, cool and will make you fall in love with the place.

3. Nainital, Uttarakhand

Formerly a British hill station, Nainital still has some of the old houses left over from the colonial era, made of wood. The lake right in the middle of the town, after which it earns the name, and the mountains surrounding the little pretty town must be experienced at least once. My friends and I had visited for Diwali, and it was quite a sight watching crackers lighting up the slopes of the mountains. Don't forget to take a boat ride in the insanely deep lake.

4. Coorg, Karnataka

5. Shillong, Meghalaya

The Scotland of the East is one of the most beautiful places in India one can visit. The rolling hills, the roaring waterfalls, the quaint little town that does not get warm at all, and a beautiful countryside are just a few reasons to visit the capital of Meghalaya. It's absolutely incredible.

Depression…..I’m sure many of you might have heard about this word a lot of times in the past few days. Apropos a statistics we are having a depression rate of 36% in our country, were almost of 50% of the population is young generation. Now, this is a serious issue because this means that most of the people who are going through depression are school going kids or youngsters. There are numerous reasons for this…our lifestyle, the phase and pace of life, competition, the way we look, this is a never ending list.

Most of them would accede that if given a chance one would like to relive his childhood days. But this has become an adage to the present school going students. Students today are under the constant radar of being judged and compared not only by the society but even by their parents. Today most of the parents of a kindergarten student want his child to know everything…even something such as who is the President of Uganda sends his 6th standard child to IIT coaching and wants his child to start solving previous years JEE papers by the time he’s in his 10th standard. Are these people out of their senses?...your child who’s in KG doesn’t even know where India is….your 6th standard child has just come to know that science has different branches such as physics, Majoritybiology…maybe your 10th standard child wants to become a CA and not an engineer.

Students are pushed to their limits in the two years of their +2 as they prepare for entrance exams such as JEE and become mentally disturbed. The students are in a pressure cooker in this period and if they are lucky they make out of it…or else at times the cooker blasts and leads to abominable scenarios as such as students committing the majority of the student's life today can be compared to that of a sine graph. By the time one finishes his engineering half of his life goes in break up…patchup…breakup…patchup. A majority of them don’t even know the difference between infatuation and love and waste the crucial years of their life on this.

Body shaming is another reason which is causing depression. No one in this world is happy with the way God has made oneself. People go under the knife to change the way they look. At times even parents of a child who suffering from hereditary want their child to get in shape and it results in a situation where the child abominates his parents and thinks that will my parents love me only if I look in a certain way?

People should start helping out people going through depression. Students should understand that failing in an examination be it in school or even any other entrance examination doesn’t mean their life’s going to end. Many people whom we look up to have failed many times in many stages of their life. We should not be disheartened by failure but stand up and catch the next tide. One should always remember that no one’s going get alive…. Sometimes we win, sometimes we learn…so sit back and enjoy the journey.

Friends are people we love to spend time with. They give us company when we are lonely, support us unconditionally and accept us despite our shortcomings. They make celebrations fun, and they help us be ourselves. Here I brought you all a gang of my seniors who eventually turned up to be my best friends and my support system. When I was asked to write a senior's record as a part of ragging, few of them came and comforted me. There it all actually begun. I started to smile when I saw them and they smiled back too. I never thought I would become this close to them in the beginning , now I understood its the matter of attitude that makes people friends. When people have a common attitude their thoughts match and tend to become closer.

They are a batch of 15 people,9 girls and 6 boys well known in the college for their movies, dubsmashes, fashions and attitudes as well. they are the craziest people I have ever met. Introducing to you all....Nikhil reddy, one of the leading photographers of college and also directs short films. Fate and Nenu Saitham are two films which were made in his direction. These films were produced by Siddharth and casted by Abhilash of the same troop. Vamshi, the so called spiritual philosopher (lol) and bhargav, the writer are the crazy two people of the batch who are the most fun loving. I should specially mention Surya Teja for his hero looks(brother kinda feels though) and Vinay for his least attendance, can hardly see him once or twice in a semester.
The very interesting thing about the gang is there is no pinch of gender discrimination. There are 9 girls in the gang, though they always mess up with each other they are the best friends one can ever find. They are the fashion freaks. Chandrika is called "chutki" of the gang for her appearance. Nandini, the craziest of all imitates everyone she come across(bithiri sathi very perfectly). Sravya is known as the fire brand of the gang, never mess up with her. I repeat NEVER. Lahari and Anvitha are supposed to be the calmest and obviously become the elements of fun. Vyshnavi who seems to be very innocent of them all is actually not. Shradha is stunningly cute dubsmasher of the gang, Bubby(never say her real name) is the sweetest and finally my favorite keerthana is the most beautiful soul I found on earth.
College had taught me many things and of course it will. But, these are the people who turned me to a person what I am now. This is the best part of my college life. I wish them all happiness in their lives.

"}]

Every college needs a perfect hang out spot. What to do if your college has many? The good thing is that every week has 5-6 working days so we can fulfill our needs by then.

Here are some of the following hangout spots nearby.

The place is basically a country side surrounded with some real good food. The place serves amazing food i.e south Indian food with varieties of dishes. The cost of the amazing mouth-watering palette is just mere thirty.

There is another one which serves as an ice cream shop. Due to the extreme weather condition. It is necessary to keep yourself hydrated by trying out cold icy shakes and delicious fruit salad which nourishes the water table within you. The prince ranges up from fifty till a hundred. So, you save again a bit apart from spending lavishly at cafe coffee day and end up getting a cockroach. The place is totally hygiene and it serves a good atmosphere for the customers.
