Dear Sujay,

The fact that you had the audacity to go for a start-up, an unstable one at that, right out of college made me feel like I had taught you wrongly. This is an apology. This is an apology for questioning your career decisions in an era where start-ups have slowly become a great opportunity for youngsters.

You see, we were raised different. Throughout my age I had heard about the elusive government job, about the way I will be safe once I landed one. That led me to believe that my brightest students would all be scholars in government institutions. You got an opportunity too, and then it went out flat, you went ahead and went into a start-up that was just got on its foot. In that space, I remembered my upbringing, and thus, the call into the personal room and the scolding. For a moment, there was a forgotten memory of how I wanted to see if my inventions themselves worked out. How I wasted my time preparing for government jobs for almost a decade before the return to academia, back into innovations. I guess you reminded me of the mistakes I had done in my own career path, and thus, I pushed it onto you.

I am sorry. I am so terribly sorry. While, there might have been ups and downs in your career graph that would never come with a government job, there was happiness too. You never passed on your ideals away for the sake of your upbringing like I did, and maybe that is what is making this difference today. I do not know where to mail this to, I do not know your address beyond the one given in your website, and that is where this will reach. Perhaps, in a haphazard scheme like at our own college, my letter will be lost too. Maybe, its better that way.

If that day, my scolding would have made you change your career path, made you be safer, I would not have written this letter. You would have become just one of the many faces within a crowd. And as a teacher that would have been my failure. Do you remember your classmates Sujay? They're parts of drone colonies now, reproducing pieces of information to contribute to a larger image that they do not wish to know. That is my failure, and yes, I know I should tell them to take more risks, but, I cannot bring myself to write those letters today, maybe, that's a failure as a teacher too; being unable to go to a student and admit mistakes when they look and seem happy.

Your pictures on Facebook, the grants you have received, the way you have progressed make me happy. There is no greater joy to a teacher than the success of their student, no matter what I taught you during that particular interaction.

I know at that moment, I was abusing the power I had on you to steer you into a way that you did not want to take. This was a problematic approach to take, because in that way you became powerless, just for a moment. All the knowledge that I had given you over the years became just a function. So, yes, this is an apology.

Not sans happiness,

A teacher from years ago
"}]
Many girls hope to complete their education and eventually find jobs, when the harsh reality crushes them for good.

Here is a story of a girl.

She was planning to become a teacher, but ended up a mother before she could finish schooling. "Her father was ill and mother's earnings were never enough. She left the school after class 8 to start working, two years later she got married. Despite of their dismal lives, not all of them have given up on the future. She dreams of taking a computer course. Once she stops breastfeeding her child, probably in a year. She believes that learning to operate the computer is her ticket to a job and better life."Her husband, a construction labourer, earns RS.250 a day. He doesn't have a problem if I study and find a job with a faint hint of a smile.

UNFPA supports evidence-based, girl-centred investments that empower girls with the information, skills and services they need to be healthy, educated and safe, helping them make a successful transition to adulthood. UNFPA also works to support the needs of married girls particularly in family planning and maternal health.

Is crushing poverty is forcing under age girls into early marriages and motherhood? The evidence suggests it, but it is time we take up their cause and fight, because empowering women is the way forward for this country, and that will lead to improving our standing in the world.
"}]
It is well known that learning and development within the corporate space is supposed to make a difference. But lest it escapes making a relevant difference it is to be noted that its alarming with a need of attention towards it.

The corporate trainings do fail at some point of time due to one or the other reasons. Of many, some are discussed below:

- A prime reason many initiatives and courses fail is maybe because there is no “Responsibility”. While the department of education deals primarily with the provision of seats for the undertaking of various initiatives. This soon becomes the sole ground on the basis of the accountability of any program is carried out. But somehow they fail in the correlation of the program to the member job or position.

- Many programs lack “Monitoring”. Evaluating a student’s performance is a vital part in carrying out in program. To evaluate the student’s requirement and his performance is the most important thing. Monitoring involves keenly engrossing effort that is time-consuming, indeed yet important. Evaluating, generally involves everyone: be it the student, faculty or even the institution and last but not the least the HR Department. The work in this area seems hard and a bit tedious yet the payoff is really high!

- “Implementation” is the third area wherein many programs fail. HR departments create wide-ranging initiatives that no one seems to ever complete. The value to the program making and conclusion is to abridge the instance that it takes for a member with narrow knowledge to evolve into a wholly efficient member of the squad.

- The fourth reason many programs fail is that they allow the employee to "mislay focus" and usefulness. Courses, education paths and programs need to be highly synchronized, delivered in a significant method, and sustained in a sensible time quanta. Too many courses force too much information into a short phase of time. Even the finest of us can only successfully take up new information for only certain periods of time. Seeing staff subjected to nine-hour programs for multiple days is terrible. And can sometimes lead a learner to nowhere but to dearth.

The above listed set of constraints is often the reason many corporate training programs fail. This is not an outcome of the programs, but more of a roadmap to potholes that many programs come across in their expansion and delivery.

Avoiding these conflicts can only make many programs better and more valuable!
"}]

A Start-Up primarily being an entrepreneurial venture provides you with huge opportunities to prove yourself and is a great learning platform, not just that it is definitely a place for innovation too. 1. Learning From True Entrepreneurs:

Your chance to be in network of entrepreneurs will give you a great learning experience because invariably all successful start-ups are result of hard work and innovation. You'll learn plenty from these people because besides the ability to give the idea a proper shape, these innovators have different work approach. Their methods of finding solutions to problem, analysis, making optimum use of resources, persuasion are all traits of successful entrepreneurs. They are all driven to make the most of their time and work. Start-ups chase a dream and what you will learn out of it is priceless.

2. Responsibility:

Unlike a corporate company you can experience a diversified responsibility at start-up, you might get experience in project management, client relations, sales, marketing and finance. Because the team size of the start-up is usually small, sometimes in single digits you have more responsibility to carry on your shoulders. While this is one side of the story with more responsibility when you give your best to nurture it's growth, your work will be certainly recognized which is not the case in a MNC.

3. Flexibility:

Most of us in an attempt to chase six digit salaries and lavish perks of employment, we often fail to realize that flexibility for a person is the most important factor that determines the quality of the work. Start-up culture is such that you can work on your own schedule, there is nothing that binds you; not the timings, not the culture, all that matters is the quality of the work and how conducive your work is to the growth of the start-up. The focus entirely would be on your targets.

4. Self-sustainability:

While being a part of networked professionals and successful innovators gives you a huge edge, you’ll be instilled with the value of hard work, ownership, and self-sustainability. Since your efforts and hard work are directly rewarded, it motivates you to work hard. In this kind of atmosphere you have to deal with do or die situation which helps you build self-sustainability.

5. Stock Options:

In large companies it might take 20 to 30 years to reach the top, but when it comes to a start-up, with the fast-paced environment, employees can catapult themselves to the top if they spend time learning, growing and adding value to the company.

6. Challenging Environment:

It’s a known fact that people look for more than money in a job. Most people in the industry nowadays are ambitious and eager to develop new skills. No place other than a start-up would give you more challenges, sometimes after believing that this idea can be marketed, you need to build the entire empire from scratch.

John F. Kennedy, former President of the United States, once said, "If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him." This quote is important in an Indian context for it's message of letting the artist pursue their form of art, whatever they may be. In a country where expectations of the previous generation trump the dreams of the current, it could as well be a rallying call for those who see the world differently.

VNR VJIET's Crescendo is an example of letting musicians pursue their art, even as they study to become engineers of tomorrow. On the surface, Crescendo looks like a college band, with it's members playing the instrument of their choice, deriving their music from various bands they count as their influence, but it is much more than that. Crescendo is a club, dedicated to music in the college, with it's members changing every year as freshers arrive at the college and the veterans graduate. The club has a rich history of 15 years, with many alumni coming back occasionally to relieve their memories of their time in the band. The jam room is sacred, making memories and magic for students in the club, "People come here and they become who they want to become, it's amazing."

The band draws it's influences from bands like Motherjane, contemporary Carnatic rock band Agam, and bands like Thaikkudam Bridge and Dream Theater, as well as a lot of Indie bands across India, "Our seniors are also big influences on us, and we are the same on our juniors," says Ajay, speaking about carrying on the legacy of Crescendo.

Crescendo has also participating in various battle of the bands across colleges, winning at St. Peter's Engineering College and finishing as runner ups at IIT Hyderabad and IIIT Hyderabad. Here's hoping even the next generation of Crescendo members keep their legacy alive and well.
"}]

The Internet of Things, shortened as IoT is defined as a series of physical devices, vehicles and buildings with chips in them that enables network connectivity and allows for the exchange of data. Widely regarded as the future, with the usage of Internet in almost every sphere of our lives, it is expected that the amount of data collected can be used in various ways, both useful and beneficial to us.

Among the companies harnessing the power of IoT, one company is all set to make the roads safer and quicker for amubulances in emergency, GreenLine Labs. We speak with the Founder and CEO Sir Vishnu Ayyagari about his journey so far, "I was working with ICICI for a few months post graduation, but my heart was set on starting my own venture," says Sri Vishnu, "I quit in mid 2015 before starting GreenLine Labs in September of 2015."

This is something that needs unequivocal dedication to your product, only then you can succeed, and I believe if a student has a great idea, they should chase it."
"}]
The problem with the question is, the first and second parts of it are in different time frames.

The 'keeping score' is more of the present part, the today and the 'winning isn't everything' is more of the future, the bigger picture.

There is no point to the today's game if there is no score and likewise there is no point to the life's game if you get bothered by one day's result.

At the end of the day,
you tell the winner, "See you just won today, but it isn't everything, tomorrow you are starting afresh"

you tell the looser, "See you just lost today, but it isn't everything, tomorrow you are starting afresh".

Let’s face one simple fact: winning is the ultimate goal for dedicated athletes. And there’s nothing wrong with wanting to win. There is nothing more exhilarating that winning a championship. Ask any athlete who has. When your kid wins, celebrate with them. That’s a no brainier.

As you celebrate the win with your child, remember that you are also celebrating excellence. And excellence can be celebrated, even if your child doesn’t win. Not every team can win a championship, but many teams can achieve excellence without winning championships.

Teach your child to strive for excellence, and when it results in a win, rejoice with them. When it doesn’t result in a win, acknowledge their superior effort, even as you let them feel the pain of loss.

Sometimes–as your child will learn–giving an honest effort or having a personal-best performance can be just as or more meaningful than winning. In any race, only one person will win, but there are others who will perform at their personal highest. When your child does that, celebrate that with them as if it were a win. Because for them, it is a win.

When too much emphasis is placed on winning in youth sports, you may see some very tangible results: stacked teams, angry parents who don’t like the way the coach plays players, small kids left on the bench for the whole game, kids getting angry when a teammate makes a mistake. It may even go so far as choosing a little league coach only because he has a winning record.

When winning is placed over excellence, character growth, and skill development in youth sports, it has become too important.

The question to ask yourself, as parents, then, is this: how much emphasis have we placed on winning in our house? How much pressure do our children feel to win? Do we praise their hard work, dedication, and personal achievement as much as we rejoice in their wins?

If you want to help your child have a healthy perspective of winning, it starts with you.

Children want to make their parents happy. If a parent over-emphasizes the result, so will the child. Don’t say winning isn’t important, just don’t make it the most important thing.

When your son or daughter comes home from a game, what do you say? Is it, “Did you win”? If so, perhaps you can change that to, “How did it go?” or “How did you play?”

The game result will come out in their answer.
"}]
Anjali, came home running and hugged her dad saying that she had won first prize in the competition. She said she has been peerless and was awarded by their chairperson. But from her dad's side there was no reaction, he was buried in his phone. She was speechless.

Maithili was in great ecstasy as she was promoted as a general manager in his office. She thought she could share her happiness with her dear husband that evening. She arranged a candle light dinner before he was home, but there was a complete different scenario when he was home. He just congratulated her and started snap chatting.

Both the instances clearly show that their beloved ones have stopped sparing time for their family and started being social in 'social media', they are so connected with the outside world that they forgot communicating with their dear ones. Such is the impact of social media these days be it a teen, adult or a sexagenarian, all they find their pleasures in connecting to others and cutting their own kin. Is it the intent of inventing networking sites? How far are we able to rationalize these sites? Have we ever thought that we are using it in an inappropriate way? The main purpose of creating these is to get connected to people who went out of trace. It is to bring all of them to one platform and connect but not to commit. Is it that necessary to have a WhattsApp to a teen? How did we manage to do before the era of facebook ? Had we not in touch with our loved ones before messenger? It is not the technology that changes day by day, it is our perception towards technology that changes. What kind of effective parenting we are giving to our children when we do the same? And what impact does it have on our juveniles? We have an old sanskrit adage "Athi Sarvatra Varjayeth", even technology has its confines. And everything beyond its need leads to greed.

"}]
Have you watched the new Tom and Jerry? OR the new Cartoon Network for that matter. With all the fun elements lost and how it's all become flashy and not funny anymore.

Gone are the days when we used to eagerly turn on the TV to watch Cartoon Network and de-stress. Or Pogo, Hungama channel or anything else. Shinchan used to be one of the most hilarious cartoons of all time. The new episodes though, have become even more womanizing and horrible, actions which a 5 year old kid doesn't do.

Pokemon at 5 pm and Beyblade at 5:30pm every single day, that was what life was when we were kids. Now, even if we do spare time to watch, these shows aren't aired anymore. Of course, there's youtube, but the kick and the feel of watching it on your favourite Cartoon Network is missing. Old cartoons had a way of making you laugh even at your saddest moments(Like when you couldn't find that chocolate in your bag). Be it looney tunes with Bugs being the hilarious one or Road runner where the laws of physics weren't applicable, they were the best.

It is sad how sometimes with the passing age and developing technology, everything around us is changing drastically. But the one thing I would want back if i could get it. the old cartoons.
"}]
