On-demand technologies to upskill our career

We all know the Covid-19 pandemic has left the job market in a state of upheaval. Simultaneously, it has led to drastic technological transformations in the IT world. This new advancement will render several existing job profiles outdated or irrelevant to the market's current requirements. In contrast, others will rise exponentially and rule the tech world in times to come.

Tech companies are finding that they have more IT positions lying vacant than professionals with the necessary skills and expertise to fill them. However, despite the number of vacancies, the competition remains fierce for such well-paid jobs.

Consequently, individuals need to upskill or reskill themselves to meet companies growing demands and have a successful career ahead.

1. Data Science

Data scientists primarily fetch data and build and maintain databases. They clean, segregate and compartmentalize data available to cater to different needs, along with working on data visualization and its analysis. It is mandatory to get a certification as there is a diverse set of profiles that require specialized expertise to land a job in this field. The overall scope of data scientists tends to be lower as compared to big data owing to the individual profiles which come within the ambit of data science.

The demand for data scientists has proliferated as the pandemic showcased the need and wide applicability of data science.

Popular Applications of Data Science in our day-to-day lives-

A. Entertainment

Platforms like Spotify and Netflix have taken entertainment to another level. From the music you prefer to the shows you want to watch, everything is influenced by data. Netflix develops and curates highly targeted shows by extracting customer preferences and behavior patterns from their databases. It customizes the watchlist in accordance with the hottest actors, genres, etc by leveraging customer data and viewing habits. Spotify also taps into customer data to customize the weekly playlist especially according to the preferences of individual users.

B. Internet search

Almost all of us frequently use something like ‘just Google it’ whenever someone gets stuck with something. The phrase has become ubiquitous, but we often fail to recognize the role of data science that’s making it possible. All the search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, AOL, Ask, etc leverage data science algorithms to come up with the best results for the searched query within a fraction of a second. Without the presence of data science, these search engines wouldn’t have been the same as we know today.

C. Online shopping

Ever wondered how e-commerce sites like Amazon come up with suggestions about similar products? They not only bring you relevant products from all the products available with them but significantly enhance the user experience as well. Those notifications popping up every time you browse through an e-commerce platform become possible because of the role data science plays in the backend. These online shopping platforms dive into massive pools of customer data to comprehend and learn shopping patterns, preferences, and tastes and based on those, they develop customized shopping recommendations for consumers.

txt
rich_1666954093216

2. Blockchain Technology

Blockchain is another technology making waves across many different industries such as healthcare, insurance, real estate, manufacturing, the financial sector, etc. With the increasing use of blockchain technology, the demand for skilled professionals in the field is also skyrocketing parallelly. In fact, blockchain is emerging as the second most popular category of jobs.

The crypto job market has primarily four main players: start-ups, legacies, tech companies, and governments.

Blockchain businessmen and crypto nerds run the start-ups, while legacies are akin to accountancy firms, law offices, and banks around for many years. National governments are extensively hiring crypto experts as consultants and advisors.

Popular Applications of Blockchain Technology-

A. Copyright, Royalty, and Trademark Security

Copyright, trademark, and ownership laws on music, videos, blogs, and other online content give the original creator the recognition needed. They are a must in today’s technologically advanced era. Blockchain can make these laws secure through blockchain technology. A digital content download is a good option as it ensures that the artist or creator of the content also gets their fair share. The Blockchain will also provide real-time and authentic royalty distribution data to content creators and musicians.

B. Digital Voting

Voter fraud is a major concern. Blockchain has the ability to eliminate this concern. Blockchain can make your vote truly count with its immutable nature. The use of Blockchain will make voting transparent, and the regulators will easily catch any changes to the network. Blockchain has created a token-based system that will ensure a system of one irrevocable vote per person.

txt
rich_1666954093217

3. AI and ML

Artificial intelligence (AI) is basically an area of computer science that deals with the creation of intelligent machines that act, react, and work like humans, while machine learning (ML) is an application of AI that lends the system the ability to learn, understand and improve from experience without having to program it automatically.

Certifications in AI & ML will help candidates gain the essential know-how, concepts, and skills that are needed to develop effective AI systems, comprehend the challenges being posed by AI in workspaces and several other relevant functions that will enable candidates to secure good job roles in the industry as a machine learning engineer, AI engineer or data scientist.

Popular Applications of AI & ML in our day-to-day lives-

A. Online Fraud Detection

Machine learning is proving its potential to make cyberspace a secure place and tracking monetary frauds online is one of its examples. For example, Paypal is using ML for protection against money laundering. The company uses a set of tools that helps them to compare millions of transactions taking place and distinguish between legitimate or illegitimate transactions taking place between the buyers and sellers.

B. Virtual Personal Assistants

Siri, Alexa, and Google Now are some popular examples of virtual personal assistants. As the name suggests, they assist in finding information, when asked over voice. All you need to do is activate them and ask “What is my schedule for today?”, “What are the flights from Germany to London”, or similar questions. For answering, your personal assistant looks out for the information, recalls your related queries, or sends a command to other resources (like phone apps) to collect info. You can even instruct assistants for certain tasks like “Set an alarm for 6 AM next morning”, and “Remind me to visit Visa Office the day after tomorrow”.

Machine learning is an important part of these personal assistants as they collect and refine the information on the basis of your previous involvement with them. Later, this set of data is utilized to render results that are tailored to your preferences.

Virtual Assistants are integrated into a variety of platforms.

For example smart Speakers:

Amazon Echo and Google Home

Smartphones: Samsung Bixby on Samsung S8

Mobile Apps: Google Allo

txt
rich_1666954093218

4. Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of things (IoT) is fast becoming an integral part of our lives. The number of IoT devices is increasing by nearly 31 percent every year, and it's projected that by 2022, there will be 30 billion IoT devices.

Individuals interested in going for an IoT certification course can gain a strong understanding and utilise the skills learned to develop and implement IoT solutions that use IoT devices with connected sensors and other functions. The professional certifications would open up opportunities to work as an IoT architect, IoT developer, IoT cloud engineer, etc.

Popular Applications of IoT in our day-to-day lives-

A. Smart Cars

IoT can be used to connect cars with each other in order to exchange information like location, speed, and dynamics. An estimate shows that by 2020, there will be 24 billion connected cars in the world. We use IoT in our daily life without even realizing its presence. For example, while finding the shortest route, while driving semi-automatic smart cars, etc. IoT is also used in vehicle repair and maintenance. It not only reminds the customer about the regular servicing date but also assists the consumer in repair and maintenance by providing proper guidance.

B. Home Automation

Home automation is one of the best examples of IoT. Smart homes or IoT-based home automation systems are becoming popular day by day. In a smart home, consumer electronic gadgets such as lights, fans, air-conditioners, etc. can be connected to each other via the internet. This interconnection enables the user to operate these devices from a distance. A smart home is capable of lighting control, energy management, expansion, and remote access. Currently, this application of IoT is not utilized at a large scale because the installation cost is too high, which makes it difficult for a majority of people to afford it. However, home automation holds quite a promising future.

txt
rich_1666954093220

5. CyberSecurity

With the growth of the internet, there is a rising threat to security on the web. This has given rise to cybersecurity jobs in all major sectors. Candidates with cybersecurity certification are in high demand for the roles of network administrator, IT manager, security engineer, systems administrator, security consultant, etc.

6. Cloud Computing

Since its inception, cloud technology has been witnessing an exponential rise. All enterprises are gradually migrating their services to the cloud as many believe that cloud services proceed parallelly with innovations. This has led to a humongous increase in the demand for professionals who are skillful in configuring cloud services.

There is a spike in cloud-based projects in IT companies, but they lack skilled technology workers possessing the required skill set to fulfill the demand. Some of the popular roles in cloud computing are enterprise IT architect, Cloud Security Engineer Cloud Analyst, etc.

Popular Applications of cloud computing in our day-to-day lives-

A. Secure storage of personal data

Here we have apps that memorize and store passwords, which can synchronize data through cloud servers.
Providers have multiple solutions to guarantee security, depending on the service.
Most often, they rely on strong cryptography (also called end-to-end), which ensures that no one but the owner has access to the passwords.

B. Video streaming platforms

We use on-demand streaming services for watching sports, television, movies, and even live events, among other things. They’re all based entirely on the development of cloud computing technology. The end-users benefit from affordable services even though providers use expensive hardware and software in their processes. That’s possible by fragmenting the service so that anyone can afford it. In this case, we’re looking at several servers that cooperate to facilitate streaming services. They also have recovery technologies to correct any transmission errors, maintain a consistent video stream, and so on.
"}]

Don't let the fire shine instead make your name shine, don't make crackers sound, let your success do that this Diwali.

Diwali is celebrated in different ways by people across the country. The people of North India celebrate the joy of the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana.

In South India, it is celebrated for the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon king Narakasura by lighting up candles in a row. And in some places, it is celebrated for the marriage of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

Diwali is celebrated for five days, the first day is Dhanteras, which is known as Dhanatrayodashi. On this day people stay busy cleaning the house, and workplace and decorating it beautifully. People buy gold on this day as it is believed that buying gold items on Dhanteras brings fortune to the house. Also, people keep themselves busy shopping for their own clothes and accessories. Dhanteras is considered to be auspicious and hence is also a great day to start any business. In the evening of this day, people light up diyas and see that the diyas keep burning all throughout the night to honour Goddess Lakshmi. One can gift their loved ones and family any gold jewellery silver articles and spiritual articles on this auspicious day.

The second day of this lighting festival is known as Choti Diwali or Naraka Chaturdasi. On this day people celebrate the victory of light over dark, symbolising the destruction of Narakasura by Lord Krishna. In some places of the country, it is celebrated by worshipping Goddess Shakti or Goddess Kaali who killed the demon Narakasura. People also offer their prayers for the souls of their ancestors by visiting their graves. And in the evening people light diyas and enjoy by firing the crackers. On this day of the festival, people intend to keep themselves clean both inside and out. Hence, they perform abhyanga snan early in the morning. It is done by applying a mixture of rosewater, besan and other elements all over the body.

On the third day, Lakshmi Puja is performed, and everyone from the family offers prayers to Goddess Lakshmi, ensuring blessings and prosperity. This day is marked as an important day and people light diya in their homes and visit the temples along with their families. In the modern era of this generation, Diwali is celebrated by burning fireworks, leading to an increase in global warming. We, being responsible, try to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly manner. People offer Goddess Lakshmi turmeric, kumkum and some beautiful flowers on this day. Later that day they light up a special Diya in front of Goddess Lakshmi and worship her. People believe that it would be great if you gift a Tulasi plant or an idol of Goddess Lakshmi on this day.

The fourth day of Diwali is celebrated as Govardhanagiri Puja, where people celebrate Lord Krishna’s victory over Lord Indra, the king of all gods. On this day, Lord Krishna lifts the Govardhanagiri to save the villagers from the heavy rain with his little finger. The Govardhanagiri served as a shelter for the villagers. Hence, Lord Krishna gets the name Giridhari. Thus, people worship the Govardhanagiri on this day and offer Lord Krishna vegetarian food to show gratitude and devotion.

The fifth day of Diwali is celebrated as Bhai Dooj, celebrated to show the most beautiful bond between brothers and sisters. We know that a brother and sister share a great, unique bond. There is a belief that on this day, Lord Krishna meets his beloved sister Subadhra. Returning after he kills the demon Narakusur. Sisters on this day pray for the success and well-being of their brothers by sweetening the mouths of their brothers and giving them gifts and praying for their well-being. On this auspicious day, you can also give anything that your siblings love.

Diwali is celebrated not only in India but also across the globe. In the United States, it is celebrated by minority groups demanding recognition in the public sphere through these cultural and religious festivals by performing dances and conducting fests. They also put large-scale exhibitions to educate people about Diwali and South Asian cultures to outsiders and appreciate them, and develop respectful relations. Diwali is also celebrated in Indonesia. And all the rituals performed there during Diwali are similar to those of India making it a treat to watch. In Malaysia, Diwali is celebrated as Hari Diwali, and the rituals are a bit different from those that are followed in India. On this day of the festival, people have an oil bath in the morning and then head to temples to offer prayers. Since the sale of crackers is banned in Malaysia, people here celebrate this festival by lighting up candles and exchanging sweets, gifts and good wishes.

On a whole, Diwali is a time for celebrating, visiting relatives, exchanging gifts, wearing new clothes, feasting and setting off lights.

We all get the same 24 hours in a day – so why do some people seem to achieve more with their time than others?

The answer as simple as it is is good time management.

Much like our energy and money, time is a finite resource and as such, it needs to be effectively managed.

Time management is all about planning and controlling the amount of time you spend on specific tasks and doing so properly might just make or break your career as a student.

Get it right, and you'll end up working smarter, not harder, to get more done in less time – even when time is tight and pressures are high. The highest achievers in the world are people that manage their time exceptionally well.

But what exactly does managing my time well get me, you ask?

When you know how to manage your time effectively, you unlock many benefits-

From,

Greater productivity and efficiency to Less stress.

From a better professional reputation to Increased chances of advancement.

From a happier more relaxed mental state to more opportunities that help you achieve your life and career goals.

Good time management takes a shift in focus from activities to results. Being busy isn't the same as being effective. In fact, for many people, the busier they are, the less they achieve. And that is why you start by assessing yourself.

Ask yourself,

How good are you at organizing your time so that you get the important things done well?

Can you balance your time between different activities? And when you do make time to do something, are you able to focus – and get it finished?

and with the answers to all these questions in your mind-

Start by Prioritizing- you achieve more when you start dedicating the right amount of time to the right things.

After you prioritize, learn to Schedule- You might as well know everything you need to do, but when should you do it? Timing is everything.

Now that you've prioritized and scheduled your work- Set Goals- the most successful "time managers" have clear targets to aim for.

Last but not least- It's no good just making the time to pursue your priorities. You have to use that time well, too.

That is where Concentration, Focus, and Practice come into play- this should be your mantra.

Summing everything up together, follow these 5 tricks to manage your time like a pro-

1) Be intentional: Keep a to-do list

2) Be prioritized: Rank your tasks

3) Be focused: manage distractions

4) Be structured: Time block your work

5) Be self-aware: Track your time
