While browsing through social media, I came across an interesting trailer of a film - Madha. With gripping visuals, it is evident that it's a psychological thriller. And it turns out that the film has been made by Srividya Basawa, a Hyderabad based film-maker who is making her directorial debut with this film.

On being asked about the film, she says, “The word 'Madha' means 'insanity personified' in Sanskrit. Because it is a psychological thriller with every character having many shades, we named it Madha. We also focused a lot on the colouring of the film to represent the different shades of the characters."

The film originally started off as a short film, as Srividya shares, "I wrote the story seven years ago when I was working as a wedding cinematographer and I thought of making a short film. In 2016, when I was working on a documentary on junior artistes, I met Abhiraj Nair who was working on that project and he came onboard as the cinematographer for my film. After several discussions and brainstorming, we decided it would be better if the film is longer as the story can't be told in a short-film-duration," shares Srividya.

The team, called Third Eye Productions, completed the first schedule of the film in June 2017 and released the first teaser of the film. After receiving immense response to the teaser, they took another decision to make it a full length feature for theatrical releases as opposed to putting it only on streaming services.

But, it wasn't smooth as the budget they had only lasted for the first schedule and they came across many unexpected expenses, as she shares "We ran out of our initial budget in just six days! In the later months, we shot whenever we could arrange money and overall, the film was shot over 17 days. My mother supported me extensively, having sold all her property to fund this film," she shares.

Another big challenge was to convince artists like Anish Kuruvilla to work on this film and to get high-quality technical support in their budget. “Somehow people believed in our concept and agreed to work on it after basic payments and said I could pay them the full amounts later when this film releases. It was only people’s belief that made it work. In some cases, people charged me only a tenth of what they usually charge. Though we (the crew) are all debutants, we ensured the post-production work is being done entirely by experienced people,” says the director who had earlier anchored a show called Cute Companions, adding, "We are now waiting for some other things to fall in place to release the film."

The film has been screened at several film festivals in India and abroad and also has been the recipient of several awards at the same, including the Best Debutante Director award for Srividya. With a journey like that, she definitely is an inspiration to many young aspiring film-makers and as to her message to students, she says, "If you are passionate about films and are not sure of how you want to go ahead, just use your phone and start shooting. Use your friends as actors and crew, learn cinematography, directing, lighting and more online, just do it. It took me 10 years to make my debut but today's generation has it easier considering every phone has 4K recording. Learn, experiment and improvise!"
"}]

1. Power rangers:

Over 800 episodes have aired since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers premiered in 1993 till 2019. We were raised watching this show and all its adaptations which some of us are still obsessed with till this day. My favourite series would be Lost Galaxy, Jungle Fury, Dino Thunder, RPM, Light-speed Rescue, and Time Force.

Amateur Radio or HAM is a popular hobby that brings people, electronics and communication together. People use HAM radio to talk across town, around the world, or even with astronauts in space.

One such operator is Tom Jose who is a final year Engineering student from SVIT who got his license at the age of 13. In fact, while students are still reading textbooks Tom has the distinction of being a student whose story has been featured in a textbook solely because of his activities being a HAM operator.

"Having grown up being surrounded by HAM equipment owing to the fact that both my parents are HAMs, I wanted to get my license at the earliest and I got it just after crossing the minimum age of 13," says Tom who is currently a volunteer at National Institute of Amateur Radio (NIAR) and encourages many students to take up Amateur Radio.

"Mr. Rammohan Suri, director of NIAR is my mentor who encouraged me to explore and innovate in the field of radio communications," says Tom Jose who actively takes part in different contests. He was awarded the Diamond DXCC Challenge award at the age of 14 for communicating with 100 countries in the span of 6 months.

"HAM radio is a great hobby to learn. It’ll introduce you to new groups of people, helps you to get into the area of research in the wireless spectrum and most importantly it is useful during natural calamities" says Tom Jose who played a remarkable role in the rescue operations at the age of 15 when HudHud cyclone swept Visakhapatnam in the year 2014. He was stationed in the control room at Visakhapatnam Police Commissionerate and spent many hours gathering messages from other teams which were spread over the cyclone-affected areas and simultaneously passed them on to the administration for relief measures. His efforts during that were included in the Telangana State syllabus 9th class English textbook which he considers as the biggest achievement.

In 2015, he was invited to the Dayton Hamvention in the US which is the world’s largest gathering of HAM operators. Here, he gave a presentation at the event’s Youth Forum about his stories of helping the emergency communication groups in India during disaster situations. He is currently receiving a scholarship of $2000 from ARPL.

If you’re addicted to your phone you need to read this.

I have noticed myself do that(checking my phone)over and over again.

Whenever I'm bored or I find free time I just take out my phone without any purpose, intention, without any goal. As soon as I realized that, I’ve stopped using my phone as a moment to breathe(see how mobiles steal time).

According to a research, when you pick up the phone what actually happens in your body is that there is little excitement(by a chemical called dopamine).

Like,”Ah!Maybe I got some email”

“Maybe I got some likes on Facebook”

etc,

And so the moment you pick up the phone there is a rush, a rush of excitement in the body and this is what makes it so addictive.

People are addicted, not actually to the phone!

People are addicted to the small rushes of excitement!

Every time they pick up the phone to see what's there those pleasure centers keep decreasing. We keep doing it again and again (checking mobile). We have to accelerate to keep up because that pleasure centres are depleting everytime. And i think that's what we don't realize the more you do it the harder it becomes to experience that feeling again.

That engagement with social media and cell phones releases a chemical called dopamine, that is why when you get a text it feels good.
Dopamine is the exact same chemical that makes us feel good when we smoke, when we drink, and when we gamble.
In other words it is highly addictive!
we have age restrictions on smoking, gambling and alcohol but there arent any age restrictions for the usage of cell phones, which is equivalent to opening a danger electric cabinet and allowing youth to touch and feel it.

That is exactly what is happening, the entire generation has access to such an addictive life spoiler. Wondering why am I saying it a life spoiler?

When this chemical is produced repeatedly, no doubt we feel good but in the near future we won't be in a position to handle stress!

We will become weak when we undergo stress. So, addiction to cell phones/social media is more dangerous than addiction to alcohol!

Stay safe!

Thank you!
"}]
->You will spend four years of your time here. No matter what you think of college, love it or hate it. Just don't complain.

->B. Tech in a college away from home town is a good idea as it makes you more independent.

->You need to have a good social profile (Facebook, LinkedIn) that will impress companies you intend to work for. Be careful of what you post.

->You will learn to send professional Emails, make good letters and most importantly, how to negotiate with stubborn people who make no sense at times!

->You don't need to study very hard to pass B. Tech. You need to study hard to get a good GPA .7 is not very hard to get.

->Placements should not be the objective of your life in college. Your objective in college should be to build a good network and to learn to network.

->If you have no skills; build them.

->Do not do what everyone else is doing, dare to be different, stand out. But, always think of the pros and cons.

->Always learn to lead from the front and take part in all college activities and functions (even if you hate college). If you hate college, make the most use of college. Learn as much as you can. These events will help you to learn new skills and can help you build a good network. Also, learn to work under someone, both are equally important.

->Never waste time doing nothing. Keep yourself occupied 24x7.

->Never be afraid to ask, no one will come to you, you need to go to them.

->If you feel uncomfortable with someone, tell them immediately, else it will change into hate.

->Set your priorities right. You may have a lot of plans. Stick to one, do others if you have time.

-> Don't stick to your comfort zone.15 seconds of courage can change a lot of things.

->It doesn't count if you are the most knowledgeable person in the room unless you share the wealth, that is your knowledge.

These days, it is common for college students to involve themselves in some form of social work, usually by joining an NGO. While most students join an NGO and perform blanket drives, food distribution drives, there are some who take up initiatives to make a change. Rohith Vakrala is a final year student from Narasimha Reddy Engineering College who is one such person who is attempting to bring changes in the policy level through his organisation Council for Transforming India (CTI). Over the last two years, CTI has been working on road safety and in semi-urban and rural areas building awareness on water conservation. Bringing in subject matter experts on two verticals - environment and road safety CTI conducts awareness sessions for students.

“My friends and I were volunteering for other NGOs related to environment and in 2017, we felt it’s better if we start a platform which conducts talks and workshops for students. That’s how CTI was born. After conducting workshops regularly for a year, we decided to turn it into an organisation and we registered it as an NGO recently in January,” explains the student who has been involved in social work for five years now.

With a presence in several engineering colleges, Rohith says, “We are planning on tying up with colleges to see if we can recycle old record books, which are usually discarded and turning them into usable notebooks for underprivileged children.”

In comparison to other student NGOs which usually focus on direct implementation, Rohith believes in making policy changes that have a long-term impact, akin to the adage of teaching a man how to fish instead of giving him a fish.

This is evident from their prior activities and their latest activity related to road safety, having petitioned to the state transport department to make blood group information mandatory on driver’s licenses. “Every driver’s license has a blood group section and most don’t bother filling it. If every person’s blood group is on their license, it will go a long way towards ensuring the right treatment in case of an accident and that is why we sent a letter to the transport department requesting the same,” explains Rohith, adding, “Through our sessions on road safety, we met many road accident survivors and a few of them told me that they couldn’t get the right blood transfusion on time as they didn’t know their blood type and it affected them drastically. That is how we felt the need to approach the transport department for this.”

Rohith also met the Vice President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu about this aspect and are working hard towards it.

For his consistent social work, the CSE student received many accolades, including the Citizen of Gold Award from Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) , Basara for Excellence of Social Work.
"}]

This was my nursery rhyme. At that time I did not realize it was possible to travel to the moon. Today, however, I know it is possible. On 20th July 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk to the moon. '' A small step for man and a giant leap for mankind '' were his words.

I wish to go to the moon. I don't know why, but my curiosity urges me to make a trip to the moon. If it were my good fortune, I will be on the moon someday. What a great joy it would be to experience being weightless and no gravitation. How I would frisk about lightly and look at the earth hanging in the black sky. A little effort of a leap on my part would make me go to great heights.

In spite of heavy suit and lack of oxygen, there are many advantages of being on the moon that could make life be so much more fun. Out there we almost float, as the moon's gravity is only 1/6th the gravity of earth. My weight would be very less, almost 1/6th of my original weight i.e, I would just be 8.5 kgs on the moon. It would be so easy to lift heavy objects. I would also love to take my grandmother to the moon because it is said in the absence of gravity, human beings would not age quickly and thus my grandmother would benefit by not growing older. No more wrinkles or no dental lose.

How I would enjoy my return journey. To pull me out of the gravitational pull of the moon would be the first thing to do. Once in spacecraft, I would move on till it entered the gravitation of the earth. When it is done, it would be possible to rush down for a gentle splashdown in the deep sea.

When I return from the moon, I would get a lot of spectacular photos of the moon, space, and earth. I wish to be on the moon already. The adventure of the Apollo II astronauts has given wings to my imagination.

There are over 90000 engineering seats in 183 colleges across Telangana. I was reading a news report in Telangana Today which said over a lakh students qualified EAMCET this year and of those, only 53,890 students applied for web counselling to secure seats in engineering colleges.

That means only half bothered going the length even after clearing an exam that they worked hard for two years. A similar scenario was observed in the last three years, according to the same news report. While the reason can’t be definitively zeroed down, going by my interactions with students and going by recent developments in the education sector in Telangana, several speculations can be made.

One of the main factors behind the decline in the number of students applying for convenor’s quota seats could be the increase in the number of private universities in Telangana. Several private universities with their own entrance process have been established in the city and students can get into these with less of a hassle in comparison to affiliated colleges.

The quality and standards of education that many affiliated colleges offer is perhaps another factor, as regardless of whether a student has an engineering degree or any other degree, the salaries they get after being placed in MNCs as a fresher is usually the same. Added to this is the fact that there are very few places where industry relevant subjects are taught in colleges. In startups, it’s a completely different scenario altogether as startups usually focus on a candidate’s ability to deliver as opposed to what degree they have from which college.

That the number of students is declining is something to be concerned about but the factors which led to this are more alarming. As to what can be done, is also speculative as there is no one method which can be implemented to magically increase the numbers.

In my experience, I hardly came across students who were passionate about taking up teaching as a profession. If a significant number of students opt to teach as a career path, I believe many things will change as the new generation will definitely be more receptive and adaptive to newer technologies and more.

Another aspect that colleges - autonomous and digital - can work on is utilising digital platforms to connect students to experts on industry relevant avenues, to ensure students receive learning on updated technologies and more in addition to the college curriculum. Regardless of the factors and the potential answers to address the factors, consistent changes and adaptations are crucial to students’ and colleges’ growth.
"}]
Friendship is a wonderful kind of relationship that we hope will last forever. Just as we all have seasons in our lives, some friendships are also meant to be with us for a season. Everything can suddenly shatter into pieces when something has crossed over our comfort line and betrayed our trust.
We are all constantly evolving as we have different life experiences and learning different lessons from it. Life is about changing and so we can release some friendships which doesn't need us. Some realise it faster while some takes time. We can get over the loss of our friendship by appreciating it for what it was and moving us into this new stage of our lives.

Getting over a broken friendship is very hard to overcome to anyone. We need to realise that the past is gone. We need to believe the fact that today will not be like yesterday and our friendship with them is over. We need to believe the fact that friendships doesn't always lasts forever. Detaching ourselves from people we know is not always easy but sometimes it is necessary. Life is not about having it all figured out, it's about figuring it out. We need to enjoy it instead of hopelessly awaiting for an unknown destination. The only thing we can do is to respect their decision to not be their friend anymore

There is no need of a best friend to lead our life with happiness. We can be our own best friend for a change. Our joy of the present should not depend on the friends around us, being our own friend and enjoying things around us with ourselves provides pleasure to us.

We generally see that people are often scared to be seen on their own or to do things on their own, running away from the label "Lonely", but we cannot constantly live by the opinions of others and think that we are actually living. LETTING OURSELVES TO BE OUR BEST FRIEND WILL MAKES US A BETTER FRIEND TO OTHERS TOO . So, if we have agony of lost friendship, we need to remember the fact that "Time heals everything" and start moving forward.
