I would just wait for my summer holidays, so that I could spend time with my grandparents and have the best food in this world. Rakshabandhan is here. The charms of sweets, gifts and money can sometimes make us forget the real reason why we celebrate this festival. It is a festival that symbolizes the unmatched bond of love, care and respect.

Here are some cute and overwhelming stories of people celebrating Rakshabandhan in unique ways.

1. Rithika ties rakhi to her grandfather.

Talking about how it all started she said, “Bauji’s (grandfather’s) sister has not been able to tie him rakhi for years now. So, his hand stayed empty on the day of rakshabandhan. My elder sister started tying rakhi to him and when she got married, I carried the tradition forward. Now the situation is such that even if I am a little late in getting to him on the festival morning, he calls me himself so that I can tie him rakhi. I believe it gives him a sense of contention and pleasure too.”

2. "My sister and I tie rakhis to each other."

Talking of her bond with her sister Kanak, Chanda said, “My sister and I tie rakhis to each other because we don't have a brother... we used feel so left out when everyone (including immediate family members) used to celebrate it with the customary new clothes, chocolates, sweets, gifts. So we decided we'll have a thing of our own.”

3. "We brothers send rakhis to each other."

Talking about his unique way of celebrating the festival, Rachit Raj said, “My cousin (my masi's son, who is my age only) sends rakhi for me and vice versa because gender doesn't come in its way. We believe it's about celebration and looking after your brother and sisters and it has no gendered boundaries. I'm meeting him this time on the festival and hopefully we'll get to tie rakhis to each other in person."

4. "We tie Rakhi to our friends."

Abhishek says,"I know I started tying rakhi to my friend Bharat in school. Since then I have thought of him as my brother. It became a ritual every year. He used to get me little gifts and give them to me once I tied the rakhi on his wrist. Even now when we are not in the same town, we make sure to wish each other."
"}]

She has been wheelchair bound since 2007 due to a tragic road accident which has changed her life. In 2007, she was heading to her town with her husband, when she met a dreadful accident that made her paraplegic for the rest of her life. Her husband fell asleep while driving which was the cause of the accident she had to stay in the hospital for two years; then got moved to the wheelchair that was her companion for her entire life. She lost her valued life which she thought she could live happily like any other girl.
Bad days had begun when her husband divorced her because of her disability. She couldn’t give birth to a child; she had to remain an incomplete mother. Not only her husband, but also her father left their family in such a pain. Her first painting was on her death bed. She became Pakistan’s first wheelchair bound artist.

Muniba underwent multiple surgeries. She had to get through lot of pain. But instead of moaning she summoned up her courage and nourished to adopt a son. Her true strength was her mother who always kept her heart warm by pushing her to achieve things. “There will be haters, there will be disbelievers, there will be naysayers and then there will be you proving them wrong”, said her mother.
Out of all the pain, she started questioning her existence that why is she even alive? Her mother would always say,” God has a greater plan for you, I don’t know what it is; but he surely has.” Her spirit and artistry knows no bounds. Another struggle, another fight

Today India and all the citizens of India celebrate their day of freedom. Where our freedom fighters hath fought for our freedom and served us with joy and happiness. Oh, wait! Let me correct my statement 'Today India and majority of Indian citizens celebrate their day of freedom' well, what about the minority? Minority here has nothing to do with religion. Minority here is for the people who can't enjoy the fruit of freedom. Freedom doesn't lie in hands of few, it lies in every hand that desires to live. If you ask what freedom is to me, i would simply say "A home"
A home where everybody learns to accept, sacrifice, sympathize, love and live together.

Right from the age of Manu and till date we have witnessed women suffering and being treated as nothing. But now, they are fighting because they know what they deserve. But what about that community that survives in many pockets of India? What about that community that struggles to breathe? Where 26th Jan and 15th Aug are just usual days of their daily struggle. Yes, i am talking about the community of LGBT. who's going to fight for them? Article 377 is legal in eyes of law, but what about the people who are insecure of having them in the crowd?
Freedom is not given, freedom is taken.
They are here to take what they deserve, they are here to celebrate their renaissance.
This poem is for all the people who fails to acknowledge their presence and absence too.

Read the poem
I ACCEPT MY BIRTH.
I am a voice of million,
I am a representative of a community.
My voice here is not a chirp of bird, but a roar of a tigress,
Like an arrival of an earthquake,
Because I've decided to drop a bombshell,
In a country where my birth has no date,
But the date of my acceptance have.
I remember the year of 2012,
Where people charged on me because i decided to celebrate my renaissance,
Where they called me a criminal and a victim too,
Where my breath was counted,
And my blood was weighed,
My life was measured on the scale of my rest population,
I was forced to fall onto my knees,
Because body did not show any signs of male or female.
As seasons changed, people did too,
Where my feelings was towards my same gender,
I was being criticized,
But why? I'm still finding an answer,
As time passed it was bizzare to see,
That I was no more a gender,
But a community,
I was a part of a legal document,
Where people didn't ask my religion,
But asked which letter do I belong to.
In a country where people strive for education,
I struggled for acceptance in a society,
In a country where my existence is now a part of movement,
My voice is a call of someone's reservation in an hotel,
But not a call for help,
But now,
Listen to this cry carefully,
Because I've decided to roar a war,
Listen to the rights I own,
I am here to break the walls of criticism,
Lock the need of prostitution,
Where I'll still sit in a room and dress up myself,
But not for you, but for the woman I love,
Where I know, I can't share my DNA
will never get a tittle of parent,
But I know I'll find my way,
Because this time,
Every action of mine is now not a movement,
But a renaissance.
Where I'll share my makeup with my partner,
And walk together,
because as Walt Whitman told me,
i will celebrate myself and sing myself.
where I'll earn money, not by prostitution
But by education, respect and dignity.
Yes,
I belong to a community of LGBT.
I own the ground I'm standing on
I'll conquer the world I'm living in.
-BR

More power to them.

txt
Awe! is a Telugu psychological thriller film (released in 2018, available on Netflix and Hotstar Premium) which came as an utter surprise to the Indian audience, not just because of it's brilliantly refreshing script but also for the way it has been put together and projected.

The beauty of this film is that, while there are parallel tales running, you do not know where exactly the story is getting to, until the very end (in a good way, not the Brahmotsavam way).

I am not a big movie buff mostly because the mainstream superhero/ lifesaver stories do not impress me anymore. But this film portrays something that is dark, yet a reality.

For example, while it's a good thing a film like Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga has addressed Homosexuality, a taboo in India, it did not really have the depth of the concept (it was an emotional drama with a typical happy ending).

Converse to that, the film Awe! has not only addressed various issues but also showcased the practicality of those issues on a level we all could connect to. The story is understandable only when you watch it and it is what makes it precious. Nobody could really spoil it for you.

Director Prashanth Varma's vision is one of the pillars of this film and also a hope for a future of better films to be made. True to actor Nani's words, "The story is the hero of this film".

Emotions are the main characters of Awe! and are justified wonderfully both by the script and the cast artistes.

Why should you watch this film?

1) To get a break from the routine 'Problem solving Macho male protagonist, dumb dancing female lead or vice versa' films that have been being made for God-knows-who.

2) To watch an unsurprisingly astounding performance by the extraordinary artistes- Nithya Menen, Priyadarshe, Regina Cassandra, Murli Sharma, Devadarshini and Srinivas Avasarala.

3) To have goosebumps for real reasons because you will realize you too, have been a part of the story the whole time and not just the characters.

4) To have a once-in-a-lifetime cinematic experience because films like Awe! come rarely and truly are a must-watch.

(Did I mention a lucky Bonsai and a lucky fish had a privilege of getting dubbed by famous Telugu actors for their parts in the film?)

If you haven't decided on watching this film yet.. I will pray for you because my mother did not raise a petty human being x )
