13-year-old Meera Vashista, who is a seventh-grader in Sartartia Middle School in Sugar Land was born and brought up in the United States Of America, while she was working on a science project in her school in Texas last year, she first heard about the Indian government's movement to substitute each of the 77 crores existing bulbs with power saving light-emitting diode (LED) ones.

Since then, she started thinking hard on how could government support the underprivileged by replacing their incandescent bulbs with LED lamps that are over seven times as expensive!

"I thought this is something I could help with. And it's then I had this eureka moment," Says Meera

She then started drafting a letter which she sent to random people in her family phone book. The letter explained the government's objective of reducing greenhouse gases as well as taking electricity to the poorest villages in India.

The letter was almost a request for donations, that would allow her to distribute LED bulbs on her visit to India. "Electricity is empowerment. In rural areas, it helps kids study after dusk, it helps ease the workload of people, it improves agricultural output," she explained to her potential donors.

Meera has collected almost $2,079, or Rs 1.4 lakh, with this she would be able to buy and distribute about 1,600 LED bulbs on her India visit early next month. "I sent letters on a wing and a prayer. What shocked me the most was when I received my first cheque," she says. Sunanda, her mother, who is a co-founder of a media portal, penned a letter to Union power minister Piyush Goyal, revealing Meera's wish to visit India and to be a member of the government's LED awareness campaign.

"Yes, we have sent Meera a confirmation. The young girl will buy LED bulbs with the funds that she has collected and distributed those among the needy in Delhi. The programme is scheduled sometime in the first week of July," says Saurabh Kumar, managing director, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL)

11.7 crore bulbs have already been displaced with LED, with the government holding to the deadline of March 2019 to make India a fully LED lamp nation.

"The event (with Meera) in Delhi will be organised with the aim of spreading awareness regarding energy efficiency, and also to motivate more children to come forward and replicate such noble initiatives," says a Union power ministry spokesperson.

Born to a Punjabi father and Kashmiri mother, Meera says she frequently has India on her mind — its people, the hustle and bustle in the bazaars, festivals, her ancestral home in Punjab and, above all, the "feeling of belonging and the smiles from everyone".

After distributing the lights in Delhi Meera will be travelling to her ancestral home in Punjab
"}]
We have always been seeing how the constructions on the roadsides get delayed and sometimes

go on for many years and create a lot of congestion of traffic.

Here’s a roadway construction somewhere in Netherlands.

The project was to construct a tunnel under a fully functional highway where there are no other alternative routes for this way.

A Dutch company has developed an ingenious plan on how to eliminate the congestion associated with roadway construction.

"Four years of B.Tech, then MS in The US - employment comes calling." Such a familiar tune. The average Indian student is expected to go abroad and get a degree, some are even looked down upon if they don't. In today's world one might wonder if Donald Trump is relevant. More so, for an Indian - Engineering Student. The answer to both those questions is yes. Unless one is graduating from a 'reputed' Engineering college, the chances of getting hired by a top company (most of which are headquartered in the US) is bleak. For students in the lower rung of colleges, MS seems like an antidote which will fix the unemployment problem. Donald Trump, who is widely seen as xenophobic, because of his anti-immigrant rhetoric - might be a scary figure for an Indian student. The question is should you be afraid. The answer is No. A country is never run by a single leader, rules cannot be changed according their diktats alone. Even the Republican Party, which Trump belongs to has on several occasions distanced itself from his remarks. Is the Donald a madman? Of course not. He definitely has his concerns. Although it wouldn't hurt to give them a better voice.

It is my personal opinion that one should work for the development of one's own country. But when jobs are scarce, one has no alternative but to look for greener pastures. "“They are taking our jobs. China is taking our jobs. Japan is taking our jobs. India is taking our jobs. It is not going to happen anymore, folks!” Mr Trump says. The validity of that statement can be debated. Yet, what is important is that as Indians, we don't become enslaved to the idea of living the American dream. I am by no means suggesting that you should not fulfill your ambitions of making a living elsewhere. If going abroad is what you dream for, work hard to achieve it. Donald Trump cannot stop you.

Make India great again.

With best wishes, Nishan Sampreeth Chilkuri.
"}]
