Orange Research Lab Industries, established in 2010, is the leading IoT Consulting in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. They mentor passionate faculty/students to convert their dreams into reality. ORL visited Sphoorthy Engg. College and we the students of II yr CSE were introduced to them on 21st August 2017 (Monday).

First of all, let me tell about this great man, Mr. Madhu P.(also called Mr. MAD), the founder of ORL Industries. He told us about himself, about ORL, their past, their mission and their support for us. The most inspiring thing about him was the fact that he founded this company when he was still in college! At that young age, he had the passion and commitment to start up this company. This fact alone deserved a standing ovation, in my opinion. Having that courage to do such a big thing, along with managing his studies, it's outstanding and has inspired me a lot. Also, he started this company with not more than Rs.10,000. Just 10k! His belief in himself is definitely one of the reasons for ORL's success.

ORL will be collaborating with our college, creating SPHN Hub, where students and faculty can share their ideas for new technologies. They believe that ideas, if given proper guidance, can do wonders for humans. ORL is here to give us that support, to mentor us.

A problem I felt was that I didn't have any ideas for this. Mr. Madhu answered my this doubt (as if he heard my thought!). He said we WILL get ideas, if we learn new technologies. Of course! Now the problem was that these newer technologies, like IoT, Android and all, they aren't in our curriculum. ORL has a solution for this. They told us that every 3rd Saturday, they'd come to our college. That day we could share our ideas with them. Also, they have developed a 1-year program, starting this September to the next. In this 1 year, they aim to educate us 10 different technologies, which include IoT, Android, Machine Learning, Robotics, AR and VR, and others. We could learn all of this online, whenever we want. The only requirement is that we invest 40 hrs every month on that topic. These certificates will definitely be a plus point for our resumes. These facilities are offered for just Rs.4000, which will be valid for an entire year. Pretty reasonable price, if you ask me. And learning these will enable us to work on newer technologies which will be beneficial for our jobs in future.

Now this visit, apart from being informative, was really entertaining too; especially towards the end. We were shown a remote controlled robot, called Rakshasi, which was so cool! She spoke, played music and even kinda danced! Then two students got an opportunity to try VR glasses. And lastly, we were shown the working of an excitometer. Now this one was hilarious! A boy was called and asked to sit on a chair facing the camera (which was being projected on the wall). He sat, and now... he was asked to dance! He looked SO funny doing that! The way he shook his body got the entire seminar hall bursting into laughter. He kind of vibrated his chest awkwardly. I just could not stop laughing! So yeah, it was definitely entertaining.

I have high hopes from this initiative. Students have got a great platform to share their ideas and innovations, and are provided with excellent support. I'm sure this will be beneficial for many of us.
"}]
It has been a matter of some contention to me that I, for the longest time, couldn't come to terms with what exactly I wanted to do with my life. We've all read the literature and the online wisdom surrounding dreams, specifically how to chase them and to never give up. But in true fashion of this cruel phenomenon called life, it obviously is easier said than done.

Here's the thing, everyone of us has hopes and dreams, something they wish to achieve with their life come what may, but not many of us have the iron will and the sheer stubbornness when it comes to actually chasing after them.

It is a glamorous thought nonetheless, as you dream of yourself chasing after your dream, if you allow yourself the effort to remember yours. For the longest time, I thought I had lost the ability to dream because I did not remember a single one of mine for a long period of time. It was only after I yearned after something that my vivid dreams came back to me, so vivid that it adhered to the laws of physics utterly and completely, making me often believe that it was the truth. There are some dreams that you even remember the smells of, remember the cool breeze that was flowing on your face as you went through it. Such dreams, often, leave you disappointed when you wake up, when you realise that you have to get back to the drudgery of real life instead of staying in that dream world forever.

This has bothered me because I strictly believe that is our only chance on the planet, we only get one life, so why are we ensuring that we let it be as boring as possible, to the point that even the smallest of dreams seem like something appealing and something we should yearn for?

Fight for your dreams, because it is your right to chase them. Do not give up on your dream at any cost, for only when we achieve transcendence between this world and our personal dream world, we will be at peace with ourselves.
"}]
"No, I do not feel like writing now."

The head's burning hot. Eyes resisting to stay open.

Hands begging not to move. Back's refused to stay straight.

Can't even close the eyes, they itch as they contract.

Can't put down the head, won't pick up that load again.

Can't stop my hands, the lone ranger as the task force.

Can't lay back, gotta keep up with the pace and poise.

You see your skin getting pale. Your body wobbling and striving to survive.

And for the matter of fact, that's only how you've been changed.

It's all happening around you.

People getting lost, people getting away.

People getting committed, some yet stay.

It's never easy to go through all the hurdles that life keeps on piling up in front of you.

And that essay of endeavors gets enhanced when the sole striving force is just you, all alone.

You wish to rest yourself when the road seems to be endless and the turns leading nowhere.

And that rest, not bound by time in any sense, is your last resort to get a fresh breath in.

But the time never pauses for anyone's plausible reason for it to stop by.

And it keeps up with its pace whether you match it or fall and fail to stand up to its standards.

It is as cruel as you like it and you can only watch and wail as it leaves you in the utter solitude.

But there's always something that gets you going, no matter how surreal it may seem to be.

'Cause not everything is justified by the logics and the reasoning of the human brain.

Some things are rather felt with the conscience of the mind; not to explain, but to believe.

Find the resort somewhere in yourself, because that's the only reality who could be certain of.

And the world is transient and it will pass by, what stays with you is your soul, for life and beyond.
"}]
Recently I got the opportunity to interview a fine talent of our college.

Her name is Sahaja perusing her third-year BTech (ECE Dept). She has amazed us with her live performance on fresher’s 2k15. A small conversation with her gave me a lot of knowledge about her passion –Gymnastics. So these were her answers to my queries.

 When and why did you join gymnastics?

-I joined gymnastics during my 3rd class summer break and later continued it due to my intense liking for this sport. I joined it because I like physical games more than studies.

 So you have done schooling from a sports

-Yes, I was selected for the sports school.

 How do you get the courage to just do something that looks like you could break your neck?

-Hold your breath and count to three.

 How do you maintain your grip on the bars?

-We use chalk. Chalk helps keep gymnast hands free from sweating and slipping off the bars, but it is hard to get off.

 Are grips comfortable?

-They are miserable until you get them broken in and build up enough blisters.

 Do you flinch watching each other?

-Absolutely! I get more nervous watching them than performing it myself.

 Who do you think will win a faceoff between women and men?

-I think women’s team has more potential to win.

 How many medals have you won till now?

-approximately 40 -50 state level, national level 20. Few are only participation

 Who is your inspiration?

Many gymnasts like Nadia.

Over the weekend, social media and WhatsApp bore witness to the horrific abuse of a 3 perhaps 4-year-old child being yelled and slapped into learning their first digits in life. With the child begging the woman shooting the video to teach her with love, begging with her hands clasped together, saying she already has a headache and an earache from all the yelling, it leads me to believe that whoever this sick twisted person who shot the video was, she probably thought it would make a cute and funny video that would be shared amongst the family so they can all join together and laugh at the horrors inflicted upon the psyche of a 4-year-old.

Obviously, it didn't work out so well for the woman who shot the video

The short horror story caused an uproar of indignation amongst many across social media, with current Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli sharing it and bringing it to national attention. Those familiar with the issue have told me that the video had already gone viral on Whatsapp's Uncle Network (a name we made up out of sheer frustration of being subjected to blatant propaganda and those annoying good morning and good night messages every day) and that while some people reacted in horror, there have been an uncomfortably large amount of people who are perfectly okay with the child being psychologically scarred for their entire life just to learn some numbers.

The same sick and twisted phenomenon could be seen on social media, where most of the top comments were 'We were beaten up when we were children, we turned out just fine!', no, my friends, you did not turn out fine, especially not when you see such blatant child abuse on the screen, where the child is screaming in rage and frustration, repeating anything to make the torment stop and not actually learning anything.

This festering cancer within our society that scars kids for life and causes a serious lack of respect for authority figures in children growing up to be adults is just a part of the usual great Indian hypocrisy: in one breath we extol the virtues of children, calling them pure of heart and being the physical embodiment of the gods themselves on earth, with another we do not hesitate to beat them up and force them into learning through fear instead of letting the child be curious and ask questions.

While India's long laundry list of hypocrisies can fill several volumes of old dusty tomes found in ancient libraries, right now, at this moment, there is a mother somewhere who thinks the video she made of their child is something cute and to be laughed at with the rest of her family instead of evidence of a rot in our society, one that must be treated before the cancer kills the body.

I'm not sure how many of you are old enough to remember, but when I was growing up, there was this certain school that had mastered the art of commodifying education, selling it like fish in the market instead of a tool to empower the children unfortunate enough to be trapped in their cages. The USP of these prisons was that they were extremely strict with their students/prisoners, and back in the day, extremely strict was a dog whistle for saying they employed corporal punishments.

Parents, who knew full well that corporal punishments were banned by the Delhi High Court after a landmark case that outlawed the inhuman practice in the year 2000, still sent their children to schools like these because they believed beatings would help their children improve their grades and study well.

It is important that I highlight the utter disgust I'm feeling at this moment at my fellow countrymen and women, but the rage I'm feeling probably cannot be translated into words without me resorting to less than acceptable language on this platform, and hence I will refrain from doing so, but I do have this to say, what sort of coward would want to hit a child that probably does not even know any better? Why have we become so accustomed to child abuse that we shrug it off and move on instead of standing our ground and saying this is not okay? Whatever happened to Steve Rogers saying that when the whole world tries to convince you that something wrong is something right and tells you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree on the banks of the river of truth, look these dealers of child violence in the eye and say, 'No, you move.'

Growing up, I had everything from chalk to a full sized duster throw at me, the latter of which shattered the window I was sitting in front of, the scars of the incident still a constant reminder of how utterly disgusting our attitude towards child abuse is in this country. The offender, in this case, was our physics teacher, a man who didn't think twice in slapping kids around. But on that day, I had had enough, I was already taller than him and extremely angry at having glass shards piercing my back. Combine this with teenage angst, years of being abused by various teachers and having the object of my anger right in front of my eyes at the head of the class. Let's just say he got what was coming for him and I narrowly managed to escape a dismissal from the school.

But for every student who manages to successfully stand up to their oppressors in schools across India, how many more suffer in silence because they know they will not get justice, not at home, or at school, when both of these places are controlled and led by poor excuse of human beings, cowards in the name of teachers and parents who believe it is their right to hit children?

As the years went by, the notion of hitting a child just because they disobeyed you or didn't understand you made no sense at all. Children learn from the adults they see around them, so when they are beaten for disobedience or some misunderstanding, they are imprinting upon their children the singular notion that might is right, and that only physical violence is the proper answer to everything in life. This leads to children fearing and secretly resenting you, even if they won't admit it, and they would much rather risk lying than telling you the truth ever again because why should they trust you to be their friend in need when all you've shown them is your complete lack of tact and your caveman tendency by hitting a defenseless child?

Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing a teacher go to jail because they had become too big for their own heads. This extends to professors in engineering colleges, who believe themselves to be above the law. I knew one such professor who lied to students that he had an accident when in reality, mask-wearing students had waylaid him and beaten him till he cried and begged them to stop. This news should horrify me, but it didn't. Why? Because the professor had it coming for him, he lorded over students and believe he could beat up anyone he wanted with no consequences. There's also the fact that people often forget engineering students are legally adults and are usually big enough to stand up for themselves and fight back. But I digress.

Studies have shown us that students and children who respect their teachers and parents respectively are more likely to listen to their wishes than children who are beaten into submission. Fear does not work, it just makes children be more secretive and become extremely good with their lies, ask anyone of your friends that sneaks out at night for a round of drinks. I have already mentioned twice before that Indian parents are hilariously inept at being parents, most of them are just birth givers with children who grow up learning lies to hide themselves to the point that their parents have no idea about the kind of person their child has become.

It is time to stop using fear as a tool to force children into studying, because it has never and will never work. Fear only teaches secrecy, which is why you see many adults today, especially women, living double lives. If you're a guy, just ask your female friends how many excuses they make to get out of the house to hang out with their squad, and how many of those excuses are the truth.

The history of this country is being written, and I hope to see it become a great country where children do not have to fear to go to school because some unloved coward turned teacher beats them. Not only will there be hell to pay, if it were my child, I would not rest until I personally make sure that teacher is fired and possibly arrested, but perhaps that would be putting too much faith in the working of our law and order department.

A child does not ask to be born, the choice to bring a child into this world is the parents to make, and it simply boggles my mind that there are people who think a couple making this choice means they 'own' the child.

No, they don't, you don't own the child, in fact, you owe the child all the love and care you can afford to give it because it was by your choice and your body that the child was born. If the baby had a choice, would it really choose parents that abuse it for something as simple as learning numbers?
"}]

October 18 2015: Let's take you to the PVR grounds, Shamshabad, Hyderabad. It was mid day and sun is head high scorching heat. but one particular group of people seem to be loosing their cool more than anyone else there. It was a HCA(Hyderabad Cricket Association) division league match and team members of Satya Cricket club were already dispirited and dissuaded with their performance as their dreams to end their losing streak seemed impossible. They were playing against CK Blues and were quickly losing wickets in the first innings itself and the score board didn't look good. But there was one guy who's still
waiting for his turn and wanted to keep the dreams alive. wickets went down and the fifteen year old boy entered on to the crease. In what must be one of the greatest comebacks according to his coach the boy went on to score an unbeaten 108 in his 25 over innings with just two more wickets in hand. All the team members were delighted with his innings and felt uplifted. They bowled out the opponents for a very less score and won the match by a very large margin.
"That was my most memorable and the best nostalgic moment for and I could never forget it as it was first of its kind in entire life", says Abhishek Anumalla 18 year old, Computer Science engineering student and a Cricket enthusiast and a great dancer from CMRCET,Hyd.

Abhishek recently received many accolades for his innings he played against the senior team in an exhibition match organised by the physical department of CMRCET. He unanimously won the match for the juniors team and showcased his amazing talent. we decided to nominate him for "the student of the week"and approached him for an interview.

Team: Tell us about your participation in
cultural activities and events.

Abhi: I participate in almost all sporting
events. We performed on our
Annual Day as a group. It was a
nice experience. I've told you about
my attachment to dance. lol.
you can find the video on YouTube
too, search for CMRCET annual day
celebrations 2017.
I was also the No .1 contender for
the Mr. Fresher title in our college.
😜

Team: How do you enjoy your time in
your college?

Abhi:As I already told you, I feel so
homely when I walk into the class.
Everyone single one is my buddy.
What more would you need when
the entire class is your friend. I
thought engineering to be bunking
classes, having fun out there and
enjoying a lot, But I realises that I
enjoy more when I genuinely try to
be perfect and can still have fun.
Our class is very unlike the others
coz we don't have groups in our
class which I observe in every other
class. United we stand. I like that
very much. No gang kind of things.

Team: Your take on CMR? is it helping
you in realising your goals? is it
limiting you in any kind?

Abhi:I feel a person can shape his career
here and it's a great place to be, but
yeah it's sad that it restricts me to
go to private coaching and practice
there. I don't like the concept of
maths for attendance. is the one
thing I want to change very badly.
I feel like there's a need for more
encouragement of sports here.I
am grateful to our Physical director.
He's a great personality.
It's so stressful to stay back after
classes in college to play and reach
home thereafter. I hope selections
were done in a more better way coz
students nearer to college have an
advantage. Skull has to be given
more importance.

Team: Okay! So have you ragged anyone
now that you are a senior?

Abhi: haha! Noo ragging in any form is
but encouraged in our college. They
are very strict about it and you
know why. Ragging is all very silly
like now and that's good too.
I would like to scare them but I
couldn't differentiate juniors from
seniors. :-P

Team: Super! Any ideals our Philosophies
you would like to share and guide
people who land in same situations
as you?

Abhi: Life's all about pushing yourself to
the point that's beyond where you
feel like giving up no matter what
you gave. Always say you are the
"Greatest".

Team: Very Inspiring indeed! Thanks
for sharing everything you could
and spending your time. we wish
you achieve what you desire for .
All the best for your future.

Abhi: Thank you so much and same to
you. It was nice speaking to you
guys.

P.S. :-
Congrats again Abhishek.
This is the story of Abhishek Anumalla
who thrives to work on his passion. Let's
wish him the best.
Thank you for reading ;-)

If you've been paying attention to my writings for the last couple of weeks, I've been dropping hints that I am not who I actually claim to be. Shireen is not my real name, although I am from BITS Hyderabad, I adopted this pseudonym to keep my identity a secret for no apparent reason except for the fact that I simply didn't want to be identified, I like keeping my privacy.

Speaking of privacy, we've had excellent articles on this very platform highlighting the need for it especially for us students, and why we must fight for it. However, for introverts such as yours truly, there are certain times in the year where your privacy goes for a toss no matter how much you want to keep it: festivals.

Personally, I do not mind. Because this is the only time in the year I acknowledge the existence of relatives. As much as I hate their prying eyes and questions, especially the ones which ask me when I'm getting married, I do have cousins who are super cool and around whom I can be myself again. This is the only reason I subject myself to the torture of the public eye, so I can hang out with the cousins that I choose to like.

That being said, it is quite amazing how festivals in India bring together our families like no other time. Of course, the west has their Thanksgivings and Christmas parties, but nothing brings a family together like Indian festivals do. With all the privacy invading questions aside, it is absolutely great to catch up with your cousins over delicious sweets that you will regret eating later, but eat anyway because which sane person says no to ladoos and Kaju Barfi?

With Ganesh Chaturthi coming up in a couple of days, it is important to remember that this is what makes India what it is, our close knit communities have problems of their own, but when we come together for something positive, it is a beautiful sight to see.

Diwali, another festival that most of us love, has long since lost it's appeal for me because of all the pollution it causes, but I still enjoy hanging out with my cousins and discussing various issues, the hottest on the day being all the pollution caused. While our parents do not understand our position on the festival, all us cousins have decided to not be a part of festivities, choosing instead to work on social issues. We've taken it upon ourselves to clean the streets next morning of all the paper and collect it for the hardworking municipal workers who come to usually sweep and pick it up, and we make it a point to give them sweets for all their hardwork.

Eid holds a special place in my heart because it teaches tolerance to people around me. In all the years that I've lived, I've never known a person to dislike Muslims after they had a taste of our delicious Sheer Kurma, but I'll talk about Eid on a later date.

If anything, festivals are a representative of what we can achieve if we come together as people who love and respect one another. We must treat our fellow citizens as an extended family and spread the love as much as we can, only then can this once great country become great once again.
"}]
