Ganesh Chathurdhi is one of the magnificent festivals celebrated in our country with great pomp and show.People bring the Ganesh idol to home and worship it with great devotion and after 10 days ,the idol is moved to water bodies, and the ritual of GANESH VISARJAN is performed i.e., the idol is submerged in water ,believing that Lord Ganesh moves to kailash, blessing his devotees.

So on the eleventh day,we find parade of huge idols on the streets and these idols, usually are no less than 10 feet.If these idols are biodegradable then it is ok,but in most cases, these are made out of PLASTER OF PARIS.This Hemihydrate Calcium Sulphate does not dissolve in water. And lakhs of such idols are being submerged every year. The usage of chemical colours ,which definitely make the idol look attractive,is adding to the mess.Besides, large amount of plastic waste is being generated, on these days.

Though NGOs and the government suggests people to promote only biodegradable idols,we find shops and kharkanas,at every nook and corner of our streets ,making idols out of Plaster of Paris.

Also during the parade, people burn crackers and use loud speakers ,causing air and noise pollution.

On one hand we bother about campaigns like SWACCH BHARAT and CLEANING OF RIVER GANGES .But on the other hand ,during such rituals, we are causing irreparable damage to the water bodies and thereby to mankind and also to the marine life.

On one side crores of Indians are thriving for water and we are merely polluting the existing water, in the name of festival!!??

I don't think it is a right thing to do.The idol makers must be urged not to use Plaster of Paris and instead use clay or any other harmless material.

We must take a vow that we shall worship only those idols that are made out of biodegradable material.Let's make our next chathurdhi, an eco-friendly one.

Thalassemia (Thalasa-sea and emia- anemia) is a condition where the victim has to get his blood transfused once in 15-20 days throughout his lifetime. That is very grieving to hear. The symptoms of thalassemia are low rate of activities, low blood levels, paleness etc. The disease was most frequently found in the people living near the sea, hence the name.

Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society (opposite to City Civil Court, Hyderabad) provides a free service for such people. The society is supported by blood donors who are very gracious enough to donate their blood to save lives. On 18th August, 2017, Miss Durga, the camp coordinator from Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society visited NMREC to spread awareness about thalassemia. She spoke about the critical situation of the thalassemia victims.

They conducted a blood donation camp in Nalla Malla Reddy Engineering College on 9th August,2017. The students actively participated in the camp as blood donors. They received 79 units of blood in half an hour. This was a proud moment for the college. The coordinator was very pleased and thanked the students and the management for their support. She said “blood is more precious than money”. The blood donation camp had been a huge success. The Principal personally thanked all the students for supporting such a noble cause and told them to continue to do the same in the future.

Every 4-5 pupil in 100 is a carrier of thalassemia gene. Sounds very disturbing but these people are called as thalassemia minors. Miss Durga had recommended hba2 level test which is test for thalassemia. If you are a carrier of thalassemia gene, you are hereby advised not to marry another carrier and prevent your progeny from suffering such a deleterious disease.

In this world of endless suffering and misery, we should play our part in making this world a better place for many generations to come. Every drop in the ocean counts. A small act of your kindness makes a huge difference for the people in pain.

“You can’t control death but you can save someone from dying”

Donate your blood and give a new life

IEEE’s WIE Congress - Day2

We all were so excited that we couldn’t get proper sleep. We were in NIT Warangal! Some of us decided to explore the territory on foot. We circled the campus three times. We were physically tired; mentally we wanted to keep going. There were canteens, Nescafé stalls, a humongous library and a central building with the name “NIT WARANGAL” with a lovely fountain before it and the surrounding filled with well maintained, different varieties of roses and other fragrant flowers. That aroma made me feel nostalgic.

They had a spectacular stadium, individual courts for Tennis, Basketball with different terrains with an attractive blue color. Since it was a big campus, the students use cycles to travel. There were separate buildings for each Departments consisting of an Incubation Center and an Innovation Center. The place was overflowing with greenery. It felt peaceful when the cold air touched our hot brows. We were profusely exuding sweat by running through the stunning campus.

We returned to our rooms to freshen up and to start for</gs> the event.
During our stay in Warangal, we never got the chance to see our Sun. It was pouring the whole time. We were late by an hour to the venue where the event was to start at 9:30am. All the speakers arrived and were waiting for the students.
The speakers of</gs> Day 2 are as follows:
1) Mrs. Taskeen</gs> Fathima</gs> Basha, YouTube Creator at the Urban Fight.
2) Mrs. C. S. Rama Lakshmi, Retd. Indian Forest Service Officer, Advisor for National Women Parliament
3) Prof. Vijayalaxmi</gs>, Chairperson WIE AG, IEEE Hyderabad Section
The minute we entered the room, there was a young, energetic woman giving a speech with a powerful body language. She showed no signs nervousness and was dominating the crowd with her powerful stage presence. She is Mrs. Taskeen</gs> Fathima</gs> Basha, who is the creator of the YouTube channel, Urban Fight. It turns out she is also a fitness trainer & Technology Analyst at Infosys Tech Ltd.
Her session was totally about being a good orator & about good presentation skills. Her greatest advice to us on health where she stressed five things ( </gs>Drink water; No junk food; sleep; Exercise; Speak out your problems). Her session ended on a serious note saying that, you may not be happy with your current self. But believe me, everything changes over time! And explained it with a short story.
Our next speaker was a dominant old lady with a commanding voice with a smile on her face. She was none other than Mrs. C. S. Rama Lakshmi, a former member of the IFS. Her session covered the topics ranging from basic needs of a person to personal life management. She clearly distinguished between Introverted and Extroverted personalities; leading a life with negativity and positivity.
Wisdom and knowledge are two very different things! , she said and continued with an example. She lamented that Indians lack punctuality and the urge to diver deeper to learn. Finally, she concluded her session by spreading an important message:
You can do everything,
-But not all at once
-if</gs> it is important for you
-if</gs> you have limitations
-by</gs> other’s help.
We often take the burden to do everything on our own and forget that it is not in our ability to accomplish everything single handedly. Here comes the concept of team work</gs> and planning. It is important to keep in mind that, we always need help to succeed.
Surprisingly, all this time, the students were just quietly seated without any active participation. It resembled a typical classroom situation where the class is never as interactive as expected. This was taken up by Prof. Vijayalaxmi</gs>, who explained about the difficulties faced to arrange such a meet</gs> & the efforts will be wasted when the students make the best use of speakers. She reminded us to have a learning attitude and wished up best of luck for the future.
Prof. Vijayalaxmi</gs> said that her tenure will end in December 2017. She expects her to be called as a guest for the next WIE congress which is to be conducted on the same dates in 2018 as, she wants all of us to never forget this platform and all the wonderful memories we made in these two days.
At 3:30pm, all the events came to an end. Now, this was the bitter sweet</gs> truth that all of us had to accept. It was time for the Valedictory Ceremony. Before that, on the big screen, all the lovely photographs were shown. It was both a happy and a sad moment for all of us. I could see tears welled up in the eyes of many students. We all felt nostalgic looking at the fun moments we all had together in these two days.
Then, a representative of each college had to speak about his experiences on this trip and also offer some advice on how to improve this meeting the next time. Students from KMIT, NMREC, SR etc. spoke</gs>. The advice offered was “To make the sessions more long</gs>!” which showed how enveloped we were with the event.
Then came the Valedictory Ceremony, followed by Vote of Thanks. Mementos</gs> were given to the organizers and speakers to make this event a grand success. And also, a special thanks to the photographers and the videographers who were very involved in capturing every special moment.
The only thing left was the Final Photographs</gs> session. All the students, faculty from their respective colleges were to come on the stage to take a picture with the chief guests and speakers. Then, the whole room was to accumulate near the dais to get a pic of the IEEE’s WIE Family. It was such a warm moment; everybody had goosebumps</gs>, felt like the final moment from the movie “Happy Days”. I feel like a special bond had been made with all the students.
All the respective groups were busy clicking selfies, exchanging contact information and promising to be in touch.
All the accommodators</gs> had to empty their respective rooms at NIT and depart to their homes. Actually speaking, this felt like home, where we all were part of a big family set</gs> out to reach new goals while supporting each other all the way. We did not want to leave. But the harsh truth is, this is the end.
We thus bid adieu to all our new friends hoping to meet someday at someplace on a platform like this one. It was a happy-sad ending. Ironically, we could see the sun setting, reminding us that a new day full of new and exciting adventures is waiting for us. We rode off into the sunset hoping to return again someday.

La Fin
(The End)

The IEEE WIE Congress 2017 was held on 18th & 19th August in Warangal. Many colleges participated in this event like KMIT, NMREC, VAGDEVI, SR-college, NIT Warangal etc. With</gs> the total strength exceeding 300. For non-locals, accommodations were provided by NIT Warangal for the 2-day stay</gs></gs> with the venue near the campus.
On the 1st day, the event started at 10:30am. The photographers and videographers were busy covering the whole room. We were seated to students from other colleges whose purpose was to get along with others. The prime objective of this event was to increase networking among the students.
The chief guests of Day 1 were:
1. Amrapali</gs></gs> Kata- Collector, Warangal – Urban
2. Shri. N. Lakshmi Narayana, Senior Scientist, ISRO
3. Dibya</gs></gs> Maheswari, Software Engineer in Analyst, Accenture
The event started with the lighting Diya by each of the speakers. The speakers gave an introductory speech and spoke a few words in the honor of WIE. They all emphasized time and again saying that Women when given the right chance can outsmart men. Some historical anecdotes about some great woman personalities were told.
One of the speakers</gs> was Mr. N.V. Rao, who spoke about the person who gives our life meaning –“OUR MOTHER”. He mentioned that, our mother teaches us the basic education at home. He also quoted a few Sanskrit verses in her honor.
At 11:20am, we got a glimpse of Shri. N. Lakshmi Narayana’s track record at ISRO where his team is working on Remote sensing science application satellites. He went on to explain about how ISRO works, functioning of different centers. He talked about different satellites such as SLV, PSLV, GSLV, and spoke about tele-medicine, tele-education, tele-communication and how ISRO contributed to it with its technology.
He was there during the mars mission & also in the historical moment when India set a world record by launching 104 satellites in the space, all at the same time. During the end of his session, he showed some invaluable photographs of him beside Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and our prime minister Shri. Narendra Modi during an important take off.
He said, we are dependent on USA for GPS and can never anticipate when such services will be stopped. So, India is planning to launch its own GPS technology called IRNSS (Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System) so that we can be self-sufficient. There is a scheduled launch of that satellite on 31st Aug 2017 which will be streamed live on TV.
The next hour was the most awaited lunch time from 1:30-2:30pm. My senior Ch. Nikhil Kumar shared his experiences of IEEE with everyone in the room to which he received a round of applause and a lot of praise from others. There was an activity where we are supposed to introduce ourselves to as many possible within 1min. It was a great way to lift the awkwardness prevailing in the room.
At 3pm, Mrs. Dibya</gs> Maheswari, emphasized with the audience about how the girl’s freedom is shunned in various stages of their life. She coined the term “You Go Girl!!” and offered us a deeper understanding by conducting activities like tug-o-war, marketing products and by explaining the hidden motive behind each activity. She was quite energetic and we managed to get a selfie with her.
The session finally came to an end at 4:30pm. At 5:30pm, there was the cultural night where all were dressed traditional</gs> and were stunning. Each college was expected to give a dance performance hosted by two energetic, spontaneous volunteers who made the program very lively.
It is the time for DJ, baby! The room was taken over with a wild dancing spirit. Everybody went crazy and danced till they could do no more. The night ended with a lot of group selfies and happiness. The room was filled with excitement, people showing off their amazing dancing skills by adapting their moves to the song. The only way to explain yourself was by dance.
“Let the Beat control your Body!”
We had dinner and left for NIT Warangal before 10:30pm with our Id’s and were expected to be present at 9:30am tomorrow morning.
Many of us couldn’t sleep as we were euphoric and still could feel our ears ringing. We couldn’t let the tunes skip out of our mind. The after effects after</gs> our performances were tremendous. We could feel the pain radiating from all over our body.
The volunteers made us feel very comfortable. They were gregarious and only slept when they were sure that all others fell asleep.
Everyone was in their respective rooms, minding their business while we spent the night texting, talking. It was still raining. Can’t complain about that. We roamed outside for a few minutes and slept when we were tired of walking.

End of Day 1

"}]

There are a lot of things one can learn from PV Sindhu. The sheer iron will to come back and perform at the level she performs not only takes determination that can move mountains, it requires nerves of steel and a cool calm head, none of which I happen to have. As a kid I used to wonder why people used to celebrate being defeated, to my mind I had no concept of appreciating the hard work of sportspersons. The very fact that Sindhu made it to the finals alone is a fantastic thing to celebrate.

But that didn't matter at the end, I hear people complain, she lost anyway!

She lost one hell of a thriller, with a score margin so low it put her opponent in the sweats. She did not give up until the last moment, for the final set was a 22-20. How many times does that happen in pro-Badminton? In her chase for the Gold, she fought a battle that will be remembered for years to come.

There is a lot to learn here, the simplest of which will be Sindhu's indomitable spirit, one that kept her going right till the end, making her opponent sweat bullets the size of Osaka. That isn't some easy achievement, it is some of the best badminton plays in recent times!

It isn't easy to play at this level and suffer such a close shave of a defeat and then come back for more, but I suppose the love for the game is what drives them to return, over and over, until they have become legends. This is what we should learn from Sindhu.
"}]
If you are here to tell me you that special person who doesn't watch Game of Thrones, please go away, I don't want to hear it.

However, if you're not a show-off and are feeling a deep pit in your heart reopening as you slowly realise you have to wait until late 2018 or early 2019 (yes, 2019, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news) for the final season of the show that has left us captivated for so long, let me assure you that you're not alone in this endeavour. As someone who wasted away his golden years (I'm kidding) waiting for Half Life, I do have a few suggestions to make as you what you can do to until the next season of Game of Thrones comes by.

1. Cryogenically freeze yourself:

But don't go overboard with it like Mei did at Ecopoint. You know what, I have this distinct feeling that I'm wasting all the references I'm dropping in this piece on people who don't even know what I'm talking about, so I'll post a video that explains the reference down below, but I digress.

So, yeah, cryogenically freeze yourself for like 2 years or something from now. Let your body go into hibernation while you enjoy the peaceful sleep that will beat all sleeps you've ever slept and wake up just in time to watch the next season. Just be careful though, the last thing you need when you wake up is to find the medical workers waking you up discussing spoilers, or the fact that Donald Trump has successfully blown up the world.

Psst.. after you're done watching this video, watch Dragons Overwatch Animated Short. You won't regret it.

2. Tell everyone to watch Game of Thrones:

While I much prefer method 1, where would we be without the Game of Thrones evangelists who spread the good word of the old gods and the new of Westeros across the world? By tell everyone, I actually mean annoy everyone and force them to watch Game of Thrones. By the time they stop resisting, it'll be too late and they'll be hooked. GoT Evangelists are also funny in a 'diametrically opposite of the guy who says I don't watch Game of Thrones everywhere' way. So cute.

3. Yell spoilers at each other to ruin it for those still catching up.

Don't actually do this, but we all know you're going to do this anyway, you savage people you. I personally don't mind spoilers for Game of Thrones because most of the deaths are mostly foreshadowed by the actions of the characters and hinted upon in the dialogue. Yeah, I'm one of those freaks who watch Game of Thrones for the drama and not the sex scenes, which brings me to the next point.

4. Watch Game of Thrones again, this time for the plot

As funny as it may sound, I am told that way too many people know Game of Thrones not for its fantastic characters, the world in which the characters move about, the narrative and the themes, the redemption arcs for characters or even something as simple as action sequences which should at least appeal to someone less smarter than Hordor. Apparently. Game of Thrones is popular with many geniuses because it has sex scenes in it.

I mean, just how depraved of sexual contact do you have to be to depend on Game of Thrones of all things on the internet (ahem) for satisfying your carnal urges? Jeez, go find yourself a partner or something or a substitute for, ahem, human touch. Just because Game of Thrones has the God of Tits and Wine doesn't mean this is a show you watch for all the sex scenes. That's just disrespectful.

5. Actually read the books.

I realise just saying that might seem like a joke to a lot of people, but I'm serious about this. Read the books. Martin himself said about 20 characters that have died in the show are still alive in the books, and with Jon's name reveal today, it does throw a lot of interesting questions in the air.

Or, y'know, don't. It only is one of the best fantasy series in the world at the moment, not everyone has the luck to experience it as it is being written.

"Failure is the first step towards success”

“Failure is the best teacher”

“Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get up”

Typical definitions of failure, aren’t they? But let me tell you, none of the quotes mentioned above define ‘failure’. They define the people who were determined to achieve success.

Then, what actually is failure?

Failure is nothing but an inability to work up-to the required limit. If you’re one among those who failed, then it’s not because you are on your journey of success. It is simply because you did not put in much effort. Failure can be remarked as your ‘Journey to success’ after you’ve achieved your goal, but right now, it simply means ‘YOU DID NOT WORK HARD ENOUGH’. You’d probably be asked the reason for your failure, right? Who would you say is responsible? Your teachers? Your education system? Or would you say circumstances were such that you couldn’t study?

I would say NONE. It’s you. Yes, only you are to be held responsible. No one else is. It was your own headache. Why would anyone else jump into your pool for no reason? Now don’t plan for suicide saying ‘I quit’ or anything else just because I told you were responsible. Ending your life might end your part of problem, what about your parents? Why give them the punishment when you are at fault? Live life and bear it yourself. You can’t die in peace when you know your death is torturing someone else. It was your parent’s job to get you admitted in a college, their part of work is done. It was your teacher’s job to teach you, they did. Now don’t you dare say that your teachers weren’t good enough to teach you everything. You were supposed to be attending all of their classes in order to learn the lessons. Did you do that? If you did that, you would have at least got passing marks!!! If not, then stop blaming them.

The whole and sole reason you failed, is because you did not give as much time as it was demanded. So, sitting in a corner and crying is absolutely of no use. It is not going to help you even slightest of a bit. If you’re so concerned about it, then skip the crying part and start working for it. Stop blaming someone else for your loss. If you can’t give credits to someone for your success, then don’t even dare to blame someone for your failure. You always have a chance to mend your mistakes. Opportunities won’t come your way if you keep stumbling over the same mistakes again and again. Accept you are liable for your failure but don’t let yourself drown in dismay. Your failure was meant for you realize something. It was for you to understand that the amount of work done was insufficient, and you need to work even harder to be successful. Just making up plans and sticking to it for a couple of days won’t help. Consistency is important.

‘But there are circumstances when I can’t study’

Ever heard about Stephen Hawking? He can’t even move himself an inch and yet he is one of the most successful people on earth. What could be worse than being paralyzed for life? Any other excuses?

Come on, it’s your life. No one is going to live it for you. You work hard, you reap the fruits. If you don’t, then it’s your fault. Failure would never be your ‘path to success’ but it’ll be a little part of your success if you learn the lessons taught by your failure. Now, it’s your decision to either jump off and fall or jump off and fly.

"}]

It took me a lot of time to gather my thoughts for this movie.

Beneath all the supposed 'vulgarity' our society accuses Arjun Reddy of having, beneath the 'bad words' that supposedly made it popular with Telugu speaking youth, beneath the straight to the point nature of the film, Arjun Reddy is a movie that is peerlessly honest. In all my years of watching Telugu cinema, which I admit took a backseat for a long time because the industry had begun to bore me with the same cliched storyline over and over again, I have never come across a movie so brutally honest, so down to earth with characters that talk, walk and behave like real people do. Arjun Reddy is a window to the life of another person, except this window is real and what you see before you on that screen is a story that could have really taken place in real life.

At its core, Arjun Reddy is a story of the redemption of a man who has hit rock bottom and stayed there for so long, he made rock bottom his home, his palace and of course, his personal prison. It is the story of a man trapped in his own memories and looking for the next fix to keep his mind from the misery of his existence. It's the story of suffering, unapologetically honest and brutal suffering that all of us who have gone through a breakup can identify with, and although we may never hit rock bottom as hard as the titular character Arjun Reddy did, we can certainly identify the elements that took him there.

Devarakonda Vijay Sai's performance as Arjun Reddy is easily the best in recent times, I could go on to say he is the best Telugu actor in the industry as of this moment. The pain and suffering he portrays on screen, central to Arjun's character, could not have been pulled off by anyone else except this actor who is barely 3 films old, with Arjun Reddy being his fourth venture. Indeed, any high praise that comes the way of Vijay from this movie would be an understatement considering his performance and the sheer iron will to stay committed and in character for the entire movie. In the words of a friend, Devarakonda Vijay seems to make suffering a poetry. Growing up in a privileged home, Arjun's isolation with the social injustices of society are made apparent as the movie progresses. His free spirited nature and his utter disregard for societal conventions is a microcosm of the movie itself, a point which I will return to momentarily.

Shalini Pandey, the female lead who plays Preethi, is not one the industry would consider 'glamorous' and that is precisely what makes this movie so realistic and grounded. Unlike most Telugu films (or even Hindi films for that matter) where the 'heroines' look over glamorous, over sexualised and over reacting to everything around them, Shalini's portrayal of Preethi is, in the simplest form, real. Preethi looks like just another person you would see on their way to college, a normal woman who falls in love, makes love, studies and lives and breathes.

It is difficult to believe that this is director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's first movie. Scenes are abruptly cut, there are close up shots that evoke the sense of intimacy and tenderness, there are even sequences shot without a single cut that left us absolutely enthralled, especially a scene in the second act of the movie which involves Arjun going to a hostel on his motorcycle. The entire hostel sequence was shot without a single scene cut, it is one continuously long shot that is gratuitously satisfying to watch. If Sandeep Reddy can do this with his first film, I cannot wait to see how he matures as a director going forward.

Much like the rest of the movie, even the characters of the movie are as real as the leads themselves. Arjun's best friend Shiva and the rest of his gang are your friends, they talk and behave like yours would do in real life and that is precisely why this movie is so great. I know I've been repeating that for about all of this write-up, but that's just how amazed I am with the movie, and why it is so effective.

This is a movie that breaks every cliche of the Telugu film industry, it laughs in the face of the cliches and has nothing but utter contempt at the prudes in our society. Arjun and Preethi celebrate their love like any other real couple does, there is no being coy, there is no beating around the bush. Arjun respects Preethi for who she is and the feeling of trust and respect is only reciprocated by Preethi when she finally opens up to him. Shalini does a wonderful job here, turning from a meek young girl to a woman who isn't afraid of being who she is around Arjun. She isn't just some damsel in distress, she has a life, a story of her own and a world of her own, which is more than I can say for other Telugu movies in which actresses exist only for a couple of songs and some eye candy.

Even the final act of the movie, which has divided those who have watched the movie with a difference in opinion, was done in the same style as the rest of the movie. While the ending might seem too good to be true when you consider the larger scheme of things, the way it is handled is absolutely perfect.

Baahubali 2 pushed the boundaries of what is possible in a Telugu movie but is Arjun Reddy that defines the future of the industry. Arjun Reddy has shown us that a debutant director with a fairly new lead actor and a completely new actress can break every known cliche and convention of the Telugu Film Industry and make a movie so raw, so unapologetically real and grounded, it becomes a benchmark.

And benchmark it is, for after this every movie will be compared to Arjun Reddy. A new dawn rises for Telugu cinema where it has now been proven, without the shadow of a doubt, that truly great movies containing real people in them can be made, putting the products of nepotism that currently infest the industry and their fans to shame for once and for all. I simply cannot recommend this movie enough.
