This one is a bit personal to me, because growing up and speaking to people around me has made me realise, when the conversation moves to the topic of schooling, that I did not have even a single teacher than influenced me when I was a child. I grew up teaching myself and disliking my teachers, because none of them took the effort to actually connect with the children they were teaching, and were often rude, even cruel.

Which is why this generation, you, who are reading this right now, who are a humanities student, you need to consider going into teaching because our children deserve better teachers. It is an amazing and rewarding profession, to see the children you teach today go on to become successful people in their lives tomorrow, and then coming back to see you, remembering you for your wise words and guidance. It is perhaps one of the greatest jobs a human can perform, to ensure children learn and not hate you.

6. Artist/Craftsman

A big part of humanities is how to communicate with people and speak to them in a way that they hear what they want to hear. Not only is this great for starting a business (which I am not including in this list because it is too obvious), this is perfect for those who can speak to people in addition to being a fantastic artist, which of course, gets you noticed. With your skills, and your social contacts built through hard work and dedication, will ensure you are noticed, get shows and showcase your art to the world.

It may not be as easy as I make it sound, however.

7. Interpreter

Have a penchant for learning foreign languages, picked one up during your time as a student? Then this is the perfect job for you. Interpreters get paid a lot depending on the nature of their work, Knowing various languages is a positive sign when you are cutting deals with people who's language is different from your own, you see greeting them in their language is a sure shot way of increasing comfort and making it easy to speak with you, which can make you eligible for even foreign service, should you want to apply for it. Indian Foreign Service is a beast of it's own, and if you truly are interested, you should check it out.

8. Event Organiser

If you can crack the event organiser market in India, it's basically swimming in money and making sure your clients are as happy as possible. Event organising can be a very stressful job, and often times, very frustrating as there's always that one thing that affects the whole smooth chain of events you had planned in your head. But that's the challenge of this job, having contacts, people for whom you create business while boosting your own as an organiser, speaking and dealing with problems and problematic people as amicably as possible, this is one thing a humanities student should take interest in, as it requires an understanding of the human nature as well. Oh, and of course, if you manage to crack the marriage market in India, there is nothing like it.

9. Public Relations Manager

Maintaining a public image is so lucrative, it has a huge industry around it. PR Managers are responsible for the image of people that is seen by the public eye. It is a high stress, high paying and high effort job that pays good dividends because as long as your client is happy, you are happy, which is always a good thing (you being happy, that is).

This job requires quite a bit of understanding the human nature, how the general public holds interest over a particular topic and how to avoid controversy to the best of their abilities. To quote a friend in PR, they work in the shadows, to serve their clients and not cause an national (and sometimes even international) controversy, and maintain their public image, verify the events they are going to attend and in some cases, even check every single tweet they are going to send out. Sounds exciting.

10. Politics

Are you surprised this is here? You shouldn't be, to be honest. Humanities, by the very definition of the word, are academic studies that study the aspects of human nature, their culture, and their behaviour, to name a few. A student of humanities, especially the ones in 12th right now, writing their boards, can chose to study politics by going for a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.

Combine this with their personal leadership skills and connect with people, you have a leader who has the potential to become the next political star in the country. After all, politics is understanding what the people want, among other things, at least.
