The Indian Engineering Services is one of the most prestigious civil services to the Republic of India, and the exam that recruits for it, the Engineering Services Examination is considered one of the toughest exams in India. After pondering over various experts views on how to prepare for ESE and serve the nation through IES, we've finally collected the wealth of information gained into five points on this article. Do note that due to the nature of Engineering and it's various branches, this article is only going to have the general points that apply to all branches and not specific ones

Here's how you can prepare for the IES

1. Study regularly

Chances are if you are an IES aspirant then you know the kind of sacrifice and study it requires to achieve what you want to achieve, and thus already know the value of regular preparation. If you are just happening upon this article, however, and want to prepare for IES, worry not, it's not too late. Give yourself enough time to prepare before jumping head first into the exam, which brings us to the second point.

The National Institute of Design was established in the 60s with the goal of driving the creative thinking through designing and encouraging more Indians to be more innovative. Since then it has only grown in stature and today is one of the premier institutions in the country for learning how to design, offering a Bachelors and well as Masters degree in the same. In this article, we dispel myths and talk about what you can do to get into the NID. So, getting down to the brass tacks, we start off with

1. No, you don't need to know drawing to get into NID

This is quite a popular misconception, one that even I held until I did my research: You do not need to know how to draw to get into the NID, but you do need to not be afraid of learning how to draw. Be willing to learn, and NID will turn your life around. During my hunt for information about NID, I heard this term being repeated multiple times, 'You don't need to know drawing to get into NID, you need to knowing drawing to become a designer.'

Which basically means you should be willing to learn, because you will be taught how to draw at NID.

2. Know Thy Exam

The NID conducts an aptitude test every year for the academic year and it's not your typical exam that the rat race runners of Indian schools prepare you for. There's really no proper study material or guide that you can follow to clear the test and get through to NID. All I can say is go through previous question papers and solve them, and you'll understand how unique the exam is.

Based on Carl Jung's aptitude test, the exam is comparable to the test the Indian Army uses to recruit officers, and there's no books you can mug to study for that. So how do you even prepare for an exam like this?

3. Read newspapers

It should be obvious to you by now that this is not a typical exam. No amount of cramming general knowledge books in your exam will help you as much as reading a newspaper regularly and giving your powers of observations a nice workout. A good designer sees the fault-lines in the world and designs around it, a good designer's biggest asset is their power of observation, which sadly is not taught in a school system where priority is only given to memorising and writing the same in a piece of paper.

4. Watch a lot of movies and play unique video games

Design isn't restricted to just one or two mediums, designs exist everywhere, in almost every medium. A great designer watches a ton of movies and some play video games, and more importantly, discuss them. There are some incredibly stylish movies out there, and then there's games like Killer is Dead, Bayonetta, NieR:Automata by Japanese developers that are incredibly stylish and cool to play, and rely a lot on cool design. \\

You need these to understand that design is not a set rule in any given situation, design is an ever evolving beast that you can tame and make your own. How you do it, it's up to you, but to do it, you'll have to understand it's nuances.

5. Ambition

For an unconventional exam, you will get unconventional tips. The biggest factor that will get you into the NID is ambition to succeed as a designer. It should be more important to you to be a designer over earning a fat paycheck. People live for their craft, and the ones who go into this field are the ones who put their craft first. Do you have what it takes?

We sure hope so!

There are very few professions that allow you to directly impact a person's life and bring positive change through one's actions as much as law and being a lawyer does. With the world becoming smaller each and every day with constant innovations and faster air travel, it is important to acquaint oneself with international law. In times like these when there's a refugee crisis in the Middle East and our own backyard in Myanmar, and with tensions high across the world, it only seems right that we take the initiative to stand up for what's right.

That being said, here are a few reasons on why you should consider International Law

1. Mounting Tensions

With war, there are war crimes. The saying that history is written by the victor is true, because often we never hear about the atrocities committed by the winners. With the world on the brink of what seems to be another international conflict, students can enable themselves to become a symbol of justice in dark times.

2. Admiralty Law

Cruise ships are all fancy but they are subject to multiple international criminal and private laws. 3. Laws Regarding Stateless Persons

The world is a little anti-refugee right now, although there are good people fighting for the cause, people who have no country too are subject to laws, and international law protects their rights. Take the Syrian crisis for example.

4. Commercial Law

5. Extradition Laws

With India hounding Vijay Mallya and trying to get him extradited from the United Kingdom, we understand why international law is important as they also deal with Extradition laws. There are complex laws between countries to return fugitives from their waters and land, and you can fight to bring them to justice.
