My earliest memory of ganesh or I fondly call him bappa go go back to when I was 10 years old. I used to wait for the whole year for ganesh chaturthi to come. My dad funnily used to make use of my excitement by letting me do the chores for the festival. I used to be up all night making garlands of flowers and mango leaves. My favorite part of the festival was when I and my grandpa used to go to the market to buy the ganesh idol. I still remember those sweet memories where I and grandpa used to come back home with the ganesh idol and the pooja samagri. I used to shout " jai bolo ganesh maharaj ki" on our way back from the market. I used to sit on my dad's lap while he used to do the pooja. Then I used to go downstairs where the colony idol was placed and helped my friends decorate the mandap. I used to sleep by the colony idol to make sure no one steals something. It was hilarious because I was just a 10 year old kid who couldn't ride a cycle but bappa gave me that courage, that confidence. I remember my mom always tells me that I got the eyes of bappa. Bappa was my inspiration during my childhood, infact he still is!. I used to gather my colony friends and I used to preach them the stories of bappa. Those were some memories. Now the times have changed but we always keep sure that no matter what, no matter how far along we are we go to our old colony and rejoice our childhood memories with bappa. Thank you!

Festivals and food are a pride for every Indian -very colorful and delightful. They depict our culture and explain our tradition.
Festivals are a fun part of every Indian's life and to me, they mean a lot, especially Ganesh Chathurthi. Ganesh Chathurthi is completely dedicated to Lord Ganesha who is said to have the power of relieving us from obstacles, provide us with good fortune and moreover, is the Lord of New beginnings.

txt
rich_1567363189478

Ganesh Chathurthi is less than 24 hours. There are trucks loaded with idols of Ganesha, Markets filled with fresh flowers, mango leaves, fruits and vegetables and tons of people demanding the best of everything they can get - believe me it's a hustle!
The next day is filled with fervor and fun - children get to play and hog on the delicious modakhs along with a wide range of savoury delicacies, all the men come together and enjoy their free time by playing Housie and all the women busy themselves with a ton of gossip and a few rounds of antakshari. Ganesh Chathurthi reunites everyone as we take up time to dedicate ourselves to the Lord and their family.

txt
rich_1567363189479

From choosing the best idol to decorating the mandap my dad and I make a perfect team. While my mother is engaged in making delicious recipes and prasadam for the day!
These memories hold in a lot of special moments - the time when I made the best chocolate modaks which my neighbor craved for although she hates chocolates. Once all the women of our neighborhood challenged all the men to make pooris as round as possible from the scratch.Late-night poojas, late-night pot lucks, never-ending DJ and the list goes on.
On the day of Ganesh immersion, we all wear white, play Holi and then perform the sacred ceremony of Ganesh immersion. We all make our wishes and come back to our home, with a heavy heart.

Ganesh Chathurthi is not just about celebrating the birthday of Lord Ganesha -it is about making memories and cherishing them. After all, life is all about making a library of good memories. For me, Ganesh Chathurthi helps in making a lot of memories as such.

"}]
People say there'll be a kid inside everyone and comes out couple of times, but the kid inside my frnd will always be there and unfortunately we( her friends) have to tolerate it. She was named "akanksha" 20 yrs back on this day. My journey from thinking that she's selfish, pedantic, not my type to thinking she's one of my close frnds is amazing. She is so loud, fair with Chinese eyes having black eyeglasses on it and got all the tallness from her dad. Sometimes she completely looks like a cat . She can totally live her life with chicken. She's part of college basketball team,CR of ECE.B, member of lot many clubs.Best part of her... she'll always be ready for anything. She can't wake up early, can't go to the mess nd get a cup of milk or tea, can't figureout how to cover cover some of her habbits( like not washing her face) when her mom asks for a vedio call, yet she's amazing. Wherever the camera be she'll always be ready with her patanjali smile. We laugh,do taekwondo in our own style, take snaps also fight for the filters nd everything will be really fun. These r the few things from my journey with akanksha. Hey, I totally forgot that it's her birthday nd may her life fill with full of adventure, scariness and fun.

Ganesh Chathurthi is a very joyful and meaningful festival, it brings together people of different communities. Talking about the celebrations of Vinayaka Chathurthi, I'm sure many of them will relate to.... Early childhood memories of getting together at my maternal grandparents ' home : a variety of home made delicacies, savoury and sweets, all of my cousins to play with, all of these preceeded by a good team among us to decorate the area where Lord Ganesha would be enshrined for a day and a half.

txt

Choosing and bringing home Ganesha's brightly painted clay statue was a joyous, festive occasion. Decorating and adorning Lord Ganesha was the duty assigned to we children. This was followed by ritualistic prayer held many times through the day. A priest used to come who was drinking tea after tea and eating sweet after sweet. He would recite the hymns in praise of Ganesha. Lord Ganesha would be appeased to our hearts' content, with home - cooked meals and devotional songs. Then, with equal ceremony and pomp, but with heavy hearts, we would all carry him to Tank bund shrieking to the top of our voices, ' GANAPATHI BAPPA MORIYA' to come again home the following year:)

txt
So it’s Ganesh Chaturthi tomorrow & firstly i would like to confess something. I’m not usually a person who celebrates festivals in the true sense of worshipping. Although I believe in god, I don’t perform rituals of pooja, or dress up in a traditional attire on any festival. But Ganesh Chaturthi is more than just a Hindu festival. I always look forward to the festival with enthusiasm. Something that excites me more is that either the festival or visarjan falls in the month of September, my birthday month!!

txt

During my schooling , i stayed in an apartment for many years. To celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in apartments is the most beautiful experience a person can cherish for a lifetime. As a kid,I enjoyed gatherings and spending time with friends. Beginning with the installation of an idol of lord Ganesh on day 1, I remember visiting places nearby along with my friends to see the different idols that were designed with utmost creativity. ( sometimes, characters from a movie that’s a superhit that year would be seen as an idol! ) In the days that followed, we gathered downstairs after school hours and spent the rest of the evening playing games and dancing. On the weekend of the festival week, i never missed watching “OH MY FRIEND GANESHA” sitting along with my friends (& our pet dog!) at home. I had a Christian friend as my neighbor and it was a delight to see how she enjoyed the 11 days as much as i did. The festival is beyond religion, caste or colour.

txt

Towards the end of the festival when the visarjan was about to take place, i would be left behind with lots of memories. Ganesh Chaturthi is not confined to the worship of lord ganesha, it brings people closer and creates a space wherein you can build healthy relationships with family&friends.

txt

If you’re at odds with someone, just celebrate ganesh chaturthi together ! Happy Ganesh Chaturthi to all.

txt
Day - by - day our anxiety for the preparations of lord ganesha got high and finally the day arrived.Every year we had a tradition of making lord idol by all our cousins and worshipping for 9 days by offerings then we merge the lord. But for once we thought to celebrate the festival by knowing all the story of vinayaka.

In ancient times, a king had his men place a boulder on a roadway. He then hid in the bushes, and watched to see if anyone would move the boulder out of the way. Some of the King's wealthiest merchants and countries passed by and simply walked around it. Many people blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none of them did anything about getting the stone removed. One day, a peasant came along carrying vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to push the stone out of the way. After much pushing and straining, he finally managed. After the peasant went back to pick up his vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and note from the king explain that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the road.

txt
When we were kids it used to be a very exciting ritual to go visit Ganpati in different houses in our colony. The main charm was, of course, that we got to eat sweets, especially Motichur laddu. For the celebrations there used to be a pandal with music, games and cultural performances. It was a lot of fun and I have many great memories of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Eventually, we started taking responsibility for organizing these celebrations in our colony. Everyone is in a very lovely festive mood and I enjoy attending the rituals that take place. Visarjan, of course, is a very important occasion and on our way, we go dancing and take along food made in different households. And if at all it starts raining, then everyone goes into a different frenzy altogether.

Coming from a joint family I always had a lot of family members and friends around during the celebrations. It all starts with building a decent place where we can install the idol of the lord, we all are born engineers so it was never a hurdle for us. All the ladies get involved in the food section and prepare some treats which we enjoy after all the hard work. This is the part where the whole colony comes together irrespective of their pesky fights with neighbors who occupied their parking place, everyone comes together and installs the idol and perform pooja and all 10 days are festive. And we distribute food for the underprivileged and run some charity programs so everyone is happy and thats the point of celebrating any festival. What we give always comes back.

In a nutshell, it is like a picnic for everyone. And on the final day, everyone gets hyped, and we indulge in Visarjan and have all the fun when we still can and deep down in our hearts waiting for next year to come, to have a blast again.
"}]
Festivals are something that bring people together irrespective of the differences we have as an individual and Ganesh Chathurthi was one such spectacular and a splendid festival in the Indian culture. I remember this festival very well since the beginning and it has imprinted stories on my heart. I remember the first day of the festival where my mom would make elaborate preparation and decorate the entire set up giving it a divine vibe. As this was a community festival our society would organise events which continues even today.
Festivals are something that bring people together, but in my case I would know them better. Not to mention the fact that would get to see my crush every day but I came to know in general what people liked, disliked their worries, this moments of joy.
Even to this day we have our community dinner dates all the nine day of this festival season. Our taste buds were teased with delicious foods. Delicacies from the north and the south are served with a hint of local foods .
The best part is the loud group of aunties would put on the best dresses of the nine nights trying to look better than each other, while the young lot of people would love to be fashionable and set a mark for themselves while entertaining themselves.
I still remember how people of my society used to dance their night away to some groovy music that would pull you onto the dance floor while I played the role of a professional audience which what I am even today.
As all these day passed in joy the last where we all bid an audieu to the almighty God, a traditional "Ooty" ritual is held where all the youth play in water while trying to break the ooty and did the end dancing to some typical teenmaar songs the nine nights filled with joy ,fun and new relationships hereby comes to an end waiting for another year of festive.
"GANAPATHI BAPPA MORAYA".
-Hari Priya

txt
