Indian films equate the frustrating and, in some cases, threatening habit of stalking to be perceived as an ordinary act of love. Keeping in mind the idea of ‘if you wear a woman down enough, she’ll give in’ these films take courtship to a whole another level. Men are given leads in which they are scripted to liberally harass, annoy, and monitor every move of their female roles until they eventually surrender to their so-called projection of love. The problem lies where the youngers in our society translate actions shown in such movies as a traditional gender equation. Thus, making stalking seem normal to a large section of people.

Sandesh Baliga, a 32-year-old Indian man studying in Australia, was one of the victims of this, rather, popular misconception among the Indian society. Baliga was trialled in court for stalking two women in a period of two years, one for eighteen months and another for four months. The court mentioned in the testimony that Baliga repeatedly called, texted, and referred both the women as his girlfriends, making them feel uncomfortable and extremely bothered. He later went on to justify that it was in fact Bollywood films that encouraged his stalking behavior. After thoughtfully analyzing the situation, the court declared Baliga as innocent, further stating his actions were caused by his influence of Bollywood movies making stalking seem accepting.

Art is a major reflection of the society and while Bollywood films may not be responsible for all criminal activates, filmmakers should set a better benchmark for their viewers. Films such as R. Rajkumar or Darr do nothing but promote sadistic methods of gaining the girls attention through stalking and harassment. Instead of being so persistent, men must learn that little manners can take them a long way. All is fair in the name of love and war. Think again.
"}]
It was on a quiet afternoon in 2000, when I came home from school and I saw these strangers in my house, hooking up what seemed like a white TV and a white box next to it. Till that time, I had only seen images of this in books and in cartoons and I couldn't believe my eyes when I realised that we were getting a computer in the house. I (being the slightly retarded 8 year old) asked my grandfather, who had just retired from the Defence Department, if this really is a computer and he said yes and also warned me -in the stereotypical elder Indian warning kid not to touch expensive stuff- that I should be careful with it.

The excitement died down a while later as the people who were hooking it up were taking ages to do it and by the time they finished it, I wasn't even interested in it. That's when my grandfather then called me and asked me to sit in front of the computer and with a series of clicks with the little white blob like device, he navigated through the rectangular start button on the bottom left corner of the screen and opened this wondrous software called MS Paint.

As he handed it over to me and showed me the basics tools and more, I was ecstatic. For me, an 8 year old, that was like figuring out the secrets of the universe, being able to use a computer! He then showed me how to save what I drew and shut down the computer and after learning that, the sense of accomplishment that I felt on that day can't be paralleled ever in my life.

For several afternoons after that, I progressively used the wonderful software ever day after school, starting off with squiggly lines and going on to draw simple boats and trees and more. For an artistically challenged person like me, who was frequently punished in drawing class and lost marks in biology for my lack of drawing skills, this was like a gift from the gods. MS Paint, was literally, a gift from the gods for me.

Yesterday when I was on Facebook, looking for news, the news of Microsoft shutting down MS Paint popped up and honestly, it broke my heart a little bit; despite the fact that I now use a Macbook with no connect to MS Paint. But as I write this, another news popped up saying Microsoft is not shutting it down and instead, it will be available on the Windows Store. This is a slight consolation as MS Paint was something that always came with Windows, to the point of its existence being taken for granted.

Nevertheless, Windows will never be the same again...
"}]

When it comes to a newly formed state, it is imperative that the first custodians that inherit it have a mammoth task in their hands. The term, 'they have to walk before they run' applies here, just like an infant, a newly minted state requires the love and care of people who are truly the sons and daughters of the land.

So it comes as no surprise that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and his son, K. Tarak Rama Rao have worked round the clock since coming to power in 2014, ensuring that the people of Telangana were not left wanting for anything, both on the social and economic front. While the patriarch handled affairs of the state and politics, the heir apparent worked tirelessly to bring a change to the city of Hyderabad and bring the rest of the state up to speed with the times, introducing them to entrepreneurship, encouraging small industries and of course, believing in all of us.

A man of such tireless work ethic and principles is also a man who is an inspiration, and to us students, there can be no better example of setting a goal for yourself and getting it done. Here are a few reasons why KTR is an inspiration to us all.

1. He is tireless:

KTR is constantly on the move, constantly planning the next big breakthrough for the state of Telangana. For the first time in many years, as told by our elders, we have a leader whose work is clearly apparent in and around the city of Hyderabad and the state.

One moment he's overseeing deals for a new incubator, the next he's in the USA, meeting investors for the development of the state. We sometimes wonder how he manages to do all of that.

2. Results, Results and More Results:

If I had to talk about the one thing that describes KTR, it has to be results. His style of working reflects his nature of getting stuff done, getting results, in short. Ever heard of people saying that posers talk about doing but achievers do before talking?

3. Greatness being thrust upon him:

KTR was once just like you and I, a student who then left to study and work in the United States of America, where he had a successful career in IT. A M.Sc in Biotechnology from the University of Pune and an MBA in Marketing & e-Commerce from City University of New York plus an IT career later, KTR returned home to Telangana in 2004; a move, unbeknownst to him, that would change his life forever.

When, in 2006, KCR resigned his position as a Member of Parliament to dedicate his life to the Telangana struggle, KTR quit his job and joined the struggle, quickly emerging as one of the most popular leaders of the movement with his charm and penchant of making people connect to the struggles in different parts of the country. He took on his father's battle and fought, valiantly and without fail, till the dream was a reality, and Telangana was formed. Some men, as it turns out, have greatness thrust upon them. The difference in what makes them great, however, is what the person does when it is indeed the case: either turn back, or take full responsibility and push on. The latter is not as easy as it sounds, it takes a person of immense caliber and discipline to pull off, something we all can learn from him.

4. Multiple caps, one (very sharp) mind:

KTR has multiple portfolios under him, including NRI Affairs, Ministry of Urban Development, Textile, and of course, Information Technology. Most of us barely manage to even get to college on time, meanwhile KTR handles multiple portfolios that often deal with multiple crores in tow. Talk about juggling and managing your time properly! Something which, I'm sure, we all can learn.

He also goes out of his way to help people who tweet to him, which is amazing! A man of that caliber taking time out to help out people who tweet to him is nothing short of brilliant.

And there you have it, reasons why KTR is a massive inspiration to students. Let me assure you, if we could follow the strict discipline KTR does to manage his time and stay ahead of the curve, serving people.

Here is wishing for many more years of his work.

Let me take this opportunity to wish KTR a very Happy Birthday.
"}]
When we were all kids at some point of our lives, we always loved a good book in our hand so that we can hug and sleep with it just because we loved it so much that it should be the first thing we see when we wake up the very next day.

My personal favorite is Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice which is so beautifully written portraying each and every event. A classical romance that takes place in the 19th century. As a kid, we had the tween version of it in school so that the complexity of the language use does not cause us any trouble when we read it. In English class, the teacher had asked every student to come up with their favorite book and I chose this and it has been my all time favorite ever since.

A book that makes me 'completely, perfectly and incandescently happy marking Miss Austen's words from the book. The story revolves around a common British wealthy couple known as 'The Bennett's' who has five girls. They want their daughters to marry a wealthier man than them so that they can inherit everything. Mrs Bennett a pompous woman who wants the richest man from UK. The five girls are happy go lucky, rather mischievous and often lost in their own world of happiness and merry making. Elizabeth, the second child of the family is someone who likes to mind her own business she never used to indulge or poke her nose into others business. That's when she meets the fairest man of the isle, known as Mr. Darcy who is rather polite and serious in nature. She never thought she would fall for him and even if she did she thought it would be a huge mistake. Turns out certain instances from the book shows that Mr Darcy liked the way how Elizabeth behaved, he held her hand while leaving the Bingley Cottage and finally confessed his love towards her. A dreamy man who captured the hearts of all the ladies all over the world in a way that we were so lost in Austenland and wanted to meet a man like Darcy. An amazing book with an amazing end which has a lot of plot twists and you feel as if you're the inside the book featuring all the respective characters.

In vain I have struggled, to realize the concepts of this book as already re translating it into the modern English took time. An amazing end to an amazing book. Books of the 19th century are a must read as it really captures your mind, body and soul making you dive deeper.
"}]
Fifteen minutes left... I nervously keep checking the time. Calm yourself first. You need to be able to think straight. Think.‌ Taking a deep breath I still myself. Amid the myriad of emotions ,the only thing that comes to mind is how I felt when I first saw my article published in the college magazine. That was me. My fingers traced over my name again and again. I was nearly giddy with elation. My love for literature is something mere words cannot express. My first encounter with the vast worlds hidden inside inked pages was with Winnie the Pooh. It was a rainy afternoon and a particular five year old was driving her mother bonkers. Running out of patience my mother handed me a book of bedtime stories....and the magic began. The words painted such colourful pictures in my mind. The possibilities were limitless. I could do anything or be anything I wanted to. In this world I found myself. It helped me combat my fears and express my opinion. I had found my true calling. The fears that held me back would always nag at the hollows of my heart but I vowed turn my back on them. I would engross myself in any opportunity I could find and overcome any adversity. The only way you ever express yourself is to put yourself out there and hope for the best. My only aim now is to be able to help those who were like me with the potential to do better, but hold themselves back. I can expand my horizons while inspiring others to do the same. At the end of it all the only ones who ever start are the ones who take the first step.

I love video games, and I'm pretty sure if you played them, you would too. Unless, of course, moving images on the screen make you sick or something, if that's the case, my condolences.

That being said, the industry has been rapidly growing, from being a niche not so long ago to gaining mainstream acceptance and continuing to grow rapidly as ever, with the years blurring the line between technology required by gamers and tech that interests non-gamers. With more people showing interest in gaming, I thought it would be a great time to introduce people to the top games of the year they should be playing.

INTRODUCTION

Arms and limbs are one of the most important parts of a human body and are for a robot too. They are required to move a robot and also the object that it carries. The robot is required to carry any object and move across with stability and agility, the most important characteristics. So here’s introducing VISTAAR an event that tests your ability to design and develop a robot which is agile and stable enough to complete the given task.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

The task is to build a manually controlled (wired or wireless)or voice controlled robot which can pick up and place the objects in specified positions without losing its stability while traversing over any terrain. Bots can be made using modules and motor drivers.

ROBOT SPECIFICATIONS

1. MAXIMUM DIMENSIONS

Length: 40cm

Breadth: 40cm

Height: 60cm (from the bottom most point of the robot)

Remote will not be considered while checking the dimensions.

2. Robot can use modules that suit the problem statement and also the use of gear box is allowed.

NOTE

1. The robotic arm can expand during the competition but while checking its dimensions, it should be in contracted form and shall not exceed the maximum dimensions.

2. A tolerance of 5% is allowed in the aforementioned parameters, taking into consideration the error of the measuring instruments.

3. The arena contains terrain platform or some obstacles at some paths, the bot should clear the total path in the directions mentioned for next level.

POWER CONSTRAINTS

1. The Robot can home a DC power source capable of powering it to a considerable period of time(can either use on-board or off-board battery).

2. The potential difference across any two points must not exceed 18 V.

QUALIFYINGROUND

1. There will be a set of coloured balls in a closed box and the participant has to pick up a ball with certain colour and that coloured ball will be their target to score.

2. The robot will be placed at the starting position from where it needs to travel according to the path mentioned clearing the terrain and obstacles present and pick up the coloured target ball in the arena and place them in a box. After clearing the balls the robot should come to the end point. All the balls are either sponge type or plastic balls.

3. The coloured balls in the arena will be placed at random positions.

4. The box can either be inside or outside of the arena. If the box is inside the arena then the robot has to place the target balls in that box and come to the end position.

5. If the box is placed outside the arena then the robot has to go to the box every time it picks up the target ball and after placing all the balls it should return to the end point.

6. Qualification is judged based on the time taken by the robot to complete the task in clearing the coloured balls.

ARENA SPECIFICATIONS

1. The arena for the qualification round will be maximum of 600cm x 600cm as l x b in dimensions.

2. The width of the path in which the robot needs to travel will be in the range of 50cm to 60cm.

3. The diameter of the objects (balls)to be carried will not exceed 10cm.

4. The space in between any two blocks will be a minimum of 25cm to 30cm.
5. The actual arena might differ a little from the picture of the arena given above.

6. The robot must travel only in the path shown in the arena at the time of participation.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. Only Under-graduates are allowed to participate in any of the events conducted as a part of ROBOVEDA’17.

2. A team can consist of a maximum of 4 members.

3. Members of different institutions can form a team.

4. Only 2 members of a team are allowed to stay around the arena (for controlling and assisting) and a team is allowed to play with one robot only.
5. Any kind of damage to the arena will not be entertained, and if done, the robot will be immediately disqualified.

6. All the required accessories have to be brought by the participants.

7. No technical assistance will be provided by the coordinators during the time of the event.

8. No practice runs will be provided.

9. Use of an IC engine in any form is not allowed.

10. Modules can be used in bot(Arduino, MC, RF, nRF etc.,) and motor drives can also be used.

11. Human interference (e.g. touching the robot) during the game is not allowed.

12. In case of technical problems penalties will be issued.

13. If a participant does not comply with the rules of the event he/she will be disqualified from the event.

14. Misbehaviour of any kind will not be tolerated and the team will be subjected to disqualification from ROBOVEDA’17.

15. The robot should not harm the opponent or the field. Constantly harming the arena may lead to disqualification.

16. No external power supply will be provided at the time of event.

17. Use Lego kits are strictly prohibited and will lead to disqualification.

18. Readymade PCB’s are not allowed.

19. Participants with wired robots are strictly advised to get wires of length 3m or more.

20. In case of wired robots the wired should be slacked though out the game.

"}]

I wasn't as attached to Linkin Park as my older cousins were who were 90s kids were. By the time I could appreciate good music, they had already graduate to bands like Zeppelin, Flyod, Steven Wilson and further, so that's where I started. But I suppose the whole reason I was lucky enough to be introduced to these genres of music was because of my cousin's introduction to the world through Linkin Park.

The point here is that, while their loss is something I cannot comprehend, the reason behind Chester Bennington taking his own life is all too familiar for anybody who has been a teenager and gone through a period of depression.

As the staff writer of stuMagz says it, thinking suicide is selfish is discounting the fact that the man who committed suicide was so depressed he felt that suicide was the only way out for him. It is even more selfish to expect someone to keep living with depression just because you think suicide is wrong. Of course it is, everyone knows that, the point is that we should be helping people out of depression rather than criticising them for choosing to commit suicide after the fact.

The fact is that Bennington was suffering with chronic depression for a long time now, and for people with depression, every day is a struggle. Many people simply do not understand what depression feels like: it is when your mind wants to die but your body is doing its best to fight and live. You lose the will to do anything, even getting up from the bed in the morning is a struggle because you constantly ask yourself just what exactly is the point of getting up in the first place. Every night, you go to bed wishing, praying even, to die in your sleep. What kind of existence is that?

Even the most successful people have depression, money and fame is no indication of happiness, and if you know someone who is going through depression, this is a formal plea from me, a random guy on the internet, please, please help them as much as you can. A simple action from you can mean the difference between life and death. The person needs therapy and all the support they can get, it is not something that'll be cured by watching a funny movie. Depression is a cancer that eats away at everything, so much that the only reason to live becomes death.

If you are suffering through depression, let me assure you that you need help as much as a person with any other condition, and you deserve help, no matter what you think. Please go see a counsellor, invest in yourself, because you are worth it.

Please do not ignore depression, it has taken way too many lives from us already. No more.
"}]
