There is also a prestigious power project SUPA built to the river Kalinadi taking place near Joida in Uttar Kannada District, Banglore Which almost generates 110 MW and transmitted to various parts of Karnataka.<\/p>Unfortunately, The most shocking thing is, the villages which are situated around the hydropower project in Uttar Kannada has never experienced any electricity till now and using it was a dream to the people in the village.<\/p>Four alumni from MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT), Bangalore have turned the dreams of hundred villagers into a reality. <\/p>"},{"type":"img","id":"img-uid-1462191555358","data":"572745dad3f7f"},{"type":"txt","id":"rich_1462191362846","data":"Once these four students happened to visit the village in the month of February and were startled to see the condition of the village, they wanted to repair the situation and the livelihood of the villagers, so that they would lead a better life, with the help of an NGO near Joida these boys identified nine villages which were without electricity \u2013 Ghatakunang, Kukkutte, Kindale, Karanjee, Soulavali, Gowliwada, Sulavali, Khangaon, and Padshet. <\/p> Further, they surveyed, spoke to the people over there and selected two villages. <\/p> After the complete analysis, they came to a conclusion that Solar-based systems would be the perfect solution for these villages.  Then \"The Project Belaku\" <\/b>took its birth where 'Belaku' means Light in Kannada.<\/p>"},{"type":"img","id":"img-uid-1462191566935","data":"572745e07a827"},{"type":"txt","id":"rich_1462191347885","data":"The Four Alumni chose 20 students from MSRIT to form a team of like-minded people. The aim for the team was to build a simple design of solar-based home lighting system and install it in two villages before monsoons arrive, but the biggest problem was to deal with the financial concerns. But the management of M.S. In the next 2 days ; 2 villages which have 20 houses, were electrified with atleast hundred lives experiencing basic lights, for the first time. <\/p>They were facilitated by the Gram Panchayat on the last day of their journey. <\/p>\"We feel that 'Helping Hands are always better than praying lip', and we wish to carry this forward to many more villages.
