Anil and Pamela Malhotra were alarmed by witnessing the situation of forests when they visited India to attend the funeral of Anil's father.

Especially the river pollution and deforestation in Haridwar shook them, they couldn't understand the detachment of the locals towards the issue.

So, they have decided search a land, after coming up short in North India, the couple began searching southward.

Finally, in 1991, they found a 55-acre plot of land at the foothills of Brahmagiri, a mountain range in the Western Ghats of South India. It was there that they began to reclaim the forest.

When they were in a process to reconstruct the land, they faced another problem which was the poaching and hunting. This problem went even worse when a Tiger killed a priest from a nearby temple and after the incident, the villagers were very afraid.

A new type of 'super polymer' has been created by the scientists that could transform the healthcare and clothing industries.
The polymer can lift 1,000 times its own weight. It is programmed to hold a temporary shape until it is triggered by heat to return to its original form.
The individual strands are connected by altering the molecular linkers to form different shapes. Researchers were able to adjust the material's stability and set the point when the shape change is triggered.

HOW IS THE 'SUPER POLYMER' CREATED?

1. In designing this material with shape-shifting power, the first step is to identify how to control crystallization that occurs when the material is cooled and stretched.

2. Polymer chains are locally stretched when they are in contorted shape.

3. The small segments called crystallizers set themselves in the same direction in small arcs, or domains. These crystallizes fix the material into a temporarily deformed shape.

4. As the number of crystallizes grows, the polymer shape becomes more and more stable, and so it is more difficult for the material to revert back to its initial shape.

5. Researchers figured out how to tune the trigger temperature by including molecular linkers as a way to connect the individual polymer strands.

txt
rich_1457967140867

7. Researchers were able to adjust the material's stability by altering the number and types of linkers used. They precisely set the melting point at which the shape change is triggered.

8. The polymer is strong enough to life an object 1,000 times its weight.

"}]
Shooting stars make a spectacular sight in the night sky. I saw one last week, when I was out star-gazing with a couple of friends. None of us seemed to be able to trace the history behind shooting stars and wishing upon them

txt
rich_1457961744203

For starters, shooting stars are misnomers. These streaks of light are actually broken little pieces of rock and dust, which, when close to the Earth, enter its atmosphere at blinding speeds, and heat up, glow and burn down. Apparently, on any given night, a shooting star should be visible every 10-15 minutes. This holds especially at the time just before dawn, when we face the direction in which the Earth moves. The frequency of shooting stars increases at certain times of the year, when the Earth passes through a region particularly crowded with dust and rocks (Meteor shower).

Legend has it that wishing upon a shooting star makes the wish come true. It is believed to have originated in Europe, when Greek astronomer Ptolemy, around AD 127-151, wrote that the Gods occassionally, out of curiosity, even boredom, peer down at the earth from between the spheres, and stars sometimes slip out of this gap, becoming visible as shooting or falling stars. Since the Gods are already looking at us at such a time, they tend to be more receptive to any wishes we make!

The Greeks, however, fathomed shooting stars to be rising or falling human souls, while Jews and Christians believed them to be fallen angels or demons. Aristophanes, a Greek playwrite, had a more fancy imagination. According to him, shooting stars were “souls of poor people, drunkenly walking home after they had dinner at a rich star.”

Even contemporary culture is abound with superstitions related to shooting stars. In Chile, for instance, when you spot a shooting star, you must pick up a stone in the same moment, while making a wish. (Quick thinking, I must say.) If you’re in the Phillipines, you must tie a knot in your handkerchief instead. (Too bad if you don’t carry one around.)

Personally, I became familiar with the wishing-upon-a-shooting-star-concept because of a Bollywood movie! (No prizes for guessing.) The first time I saw a shooting star was a year ago, at Tioman in Malaysia. It was a fascinating sight, but I can’t remember what I had wished for, so I can’t claim if it came true! It’s too soon to tell the fate of the wish I made upon the shooting star I saw last week, but I shall use it as evidence in accepting or refuting the legend.

Tips for the next time you go star-gazing:

Keep a wish handy, always.
Remember Murphy’s law. The moment you look away from the sky, a shooting star will appear.
The moment you see a shooting star, you will impulsively point at it and scream ‘Shooting star!’ Keep that for later. The wish must come first.
"}]

Our country is growing and we need to be grownups and stop expecting someone with a stick behind us and ordering what to do & what not to do. One should not complain about India & Indians after getting into a comfort zone. Take up the responsibility of your own country by coming out of their comfort zone. It is not that India should learn from other countries but there are always many things the western world need to learn from India too. The garbages are also one of the greatest issue in India.
