In a time when social media is mostly filled with hate and unsolicited opinions, musicians filling it with their soul-stirring renditions of our favorite songs make scrolling through social media a treat. In fact, many are even getting opportunities through their actions on social media and one such musician is Gautam Raj, a Hyderabad based violinist. An engineering graduate and a banker by profession, Gautam has been posting videos on Facebook for two years now and his skill was noticed and he played in films like RX 100, Sita on The Road in addition to working in the entire background score of an upcoming film - Seven.

For him, his vocalist father was the first inspiration and having grown up surrounded by music, he picked up the violin when he was 15, as he says, “I wanted to learn music and seeing my father and a cousin of mine who is a pianist, I wanted to learn piano but when I realised there’s only a violin school near my place, I started learning that.”

txt
rich_1564839750036

Under the tutelage of the eminent violinist Ashok Gurujale, he spent the the next few years balancing studies with consistent violin practice. “I started learning carnatic music in 2005 and I spent the next five years practising for a minimum of four hours a day. I spent so much time with my guru that there’s a lot of his style in my playing. Meanwhile I finished my B.Tech and did MBA. All throughout, there was constant jamming or practice, in various different forms of music” explains the violinist who also performed for many short films.

This constant jamming is what got him interested in fusion, something that is seen in all of the videos made by his band Nakshatra. “I wanted to make a lot of fusion music, replacing the vocals with my violin, backed up by guitars and percussions. I experimented with a lot of bands but it didn’t sync. Last year, a bunch of musicians from the city did a musical flash mob at a mall and that was when I met Akshay Beri and Aveek Barman. Then we decided to form Nakshatra,” explains Gautam, adding, “We started jamming together and a few months later, in March this year, we won the Battle of Bands contest conducted by a radio channel here.” In addition to this, the band has also performed over 400 shows in the last two years.

Gautam, whose cover of Inkem Inkem Kavale got more than a lakh views on YouTube, says he didn’t expect opportunities through Facebook. “I love playing by-the-ear, as in I just listen to the song a few times and play it without looking up the notes or anything. I used to post violin covers of my favorite songs, recorded in my room but thankfully, they got noticed by the right people and I even got an opportunity to play at a TEDx event,” he says. He is now waiting for the release of a couple of more films that he worked on.

His message to students who are interested in music is simple. “Consistent practice with discipline is crucial, so is experimenting with different genres like Hindustani, Western, etc. Try to make your own compositions,” is what Gautam says to students.
"}]

My B-Tech journey started exactly 2 years ago from today, I was eager to see my college and, I had many expectations from it too, soon I came to know that colleges in the movie and real-life are not at all same and at this moment I was in the middle of my first semester. My shoulders were laden with books and notebooks. I was socked from foundry lab and workshop. I completed all assignment on time and regular exams and tests made my life hell. Sometimes I didn't have time to take a breath. Professors felt like giving there both kidney to us if we wanted full marks in any question. And this was heartbreaking. This change was quite indigestible for me, somehow I managed to score good marks in my first-semester end examination. And that was the only semester I scored well, Soon I got habituated to the schedule and this lifestyle, same thing kept on repeating every semester, until I got a backlog which struck me like a stone, like every Indian parent my dad gave me an ultimatum get rid of this backlog if you want your mobile to be with you, or else you know what’s going happen. So it was a do or die situation for me, I managed to do instead of dying. I was never a topper or nerd in my whole schooling and when I heard people talking I scored 8.9 or 9.2 I just used to say “are you a bot” how do you even do it ? do you even live your life? I just had many silly questions which were never answered, and B-Tech is just an advanced version of school, I never found any difference, same discipline, same taunts, same ID card issues, we don’t have uniform but we have to wear formals that’s just a multicolored version of uniform, I still get scolded for stylish haircuts and beards, if you don’t follow all this you are doomed because you will lose marks in labs and assignments. Sometimes you need to be yourself instead of representing like how people want you to be, and that is not possible in any B-tech college for sure. Slowly I started to lose interest in classes and was more interested in bunking. And this addiction is more dangerous than any other drug addiction, I started to come college late on a daily basis, I felt like I have achieved this privilege, every day Mr. P.T or P.T teacher asks to wear ID cards as soon as we enter the campus, and I never understood why does he even do that, like why would I go to some other college, and that too in the morning why will I take so much pain, just see a “B-TECH college. Now as being a senior I enjoy some privileges like I can go in and out of college whenever I want, I see students struggling hard to get out of college at the main gate, and I simply walk out like a pro. Still, I struggle in labs and classes that’s an obvious thing and will remain until I graduate, one year to go I hope it would be smooth. And that’s my story “First sem to the Fifth sem”

What human quality do we need more of and why?

Before I start expressing my views on it, I want to put the same question to you guys. Just think about it for a minute. Did you!!! and now what's the first quality that struck your mind?

I asked the same question to some of my friends, relatives, neighbors and so on...and I have received a different set of qualities from each one of them they were like being optimistic, hardworking, loyalty, sincerity and so on..The answers which they gave reflects their attitude. So according to me, attitude is the most important thing a human should possess. Attitude refers to what a person thinks about his/her surroundings and how he/she interacts with it. Attitude is more important than the past than the facts than the education than the money, than the circumstances, than the failures and also the success. We cannot change our past, can we!! we cannot change the facts, we cannot change the inevitable but the only thing we can do is to play on the strings we have and that is our attitude. Our attitude is a weapon for building relationships. Simply said you receive the energy you give, and also, for example, you can only argue when you have people to argue with. So your talent, no doubted your talent can take you there but there's always a but in between, you know!! but it's your attitude which keeps you there. I'm convinced that 10% of life is what happens to me and 90% is how I react to it, as so it s with you!! So we all are in charge of our attitudes. In short, attitude is like a magnet, if you possess a positive attitude all positive things attract your life and if u have a bad attitude all negatives will attract your life. So it is you who decides what you want and could change accordingly. We have a saying people laugh at me because I'm different and I laugh because all of them are the same..that is the attitude. Attitude is like a price tag which decides how valuable you are, it can make or break a home, a company, a relationship and whatever it may be. So last but not least, gratitude is the attitude that gives us the fortitude to face the toughest challenges in our lives.
"}]

The traditional day was the first event for us that was held in the college... We being freshers got great freedom to explore the college... like the whole day we spent roaming all over the college and clicking pics and having memories.

Through different means and workshops, got to know our seniors in the college... and knew that they will always be back of us in skill's enablement... The whole 2nd semester... we all done with the labs namely GDM, product design studio, ELCS,... Thus, I can say that more it covered practical sessions... all hectic viva's, records... manuals... The journey of my college started from the orientation day seminar. Everyone is a stranger to me but slowly they became friends of mine.

Our college starts at 9:40A.M. That’s too early to a lazy person like me. My laziness is like 8 when I lie down it becomes infinity:p. Every day I used to go late to the college and miss my first period attendance. Anyhow, proxy is not going to work out as my teachers are smarter; so I learned to Maska them for my attendance.

Last bench used to be my favorite place where I got a gang who shouts, laugh at silly reasons, enjoys and study as well. They are the reason I never find any class boring. The view of my college from the window beside me is awesome. So my routine would be, either listening to the classes or time pass with these things, waiting for that 4:00P.M bell to ring.

Some naughty things we always like to do are, Eating lunch box secretly during the boring lecture, playing ludo, pen fight, hand cricket etc. during the classes, gossiping my friends, planning to bunk class anyhow that plan couldn’t workout many times

Apart from them, I used to take part actively in activities such as seminars, presentations. I will never miss a chance when I used to call upon the stage to speak something. This helped me a lot in breaking the ice between me, lecturers and my fellow friends in my first year.

For the first time I learned to do night outs to complete my assignments, records, and observations. Overnight studies. Exams became the most creative phase of my life. As time passed by, we completed my first year. Anyhow, the lecturer classes, notes, Google, YouTube, tutorials point helped me in clearing all the subjects with a decent percentage.

As the second year seniors with a new joy and enthusiasm, we Wanna trouble our juniors. Unfortunately, our college is a raging free campus. Neither we get ragged nor we get a chance to do ragging. With the new faculty with some other new friends, our second year started. Now we grew up we started thinking about our future and planning accordingly. Engineering is something different from the second year. We are introduced to the new coding subjects. Our coding programs never ended without raising an error.

Apart from studies, I have gathered a lot of memories. Canteen became our favorite place. Friends became a family of mine. Our gallery was used to fill with the photos of ours. In the meantime, our second year completed.

Now we are in the third year. We started focusing more on our goals. I have started my gate preparation and hope at least this time I stick to my time table and do things accordingly. We want to create more stories more memories this year. Next year I hope doing well in my projects and Gate too…

It’s been a year and a couple of months, since my time in Little Flower Degree College and its truly been an exceptional experience. The friends, the teachers I have now are people I am going to remember and cherish forever.

As a teenager joining a new college knowing no one I worried about my social life but looking back today I don’t have that fear because I believe that somehow the right people came into my life, the one’s who help and guide me in my decisions.

This college helped me grow in many ways, I did so many things that I never thought I would do. This past year my life as a graduate in college was filled with fun and a lot of learning, I look forward to do the same this year too.

College is a little more different that I hoped , ever since the beginning of school I wanted to just run off to college imagining that it would be fun having less responsibilities and most of all less studying.
But now I know better college requires a lot more responsibilities, more than that college is just like a reminder it’s an alarm for us to realize that we are entering the real world soon and our main priority is to focus on our careers and on what we want to become and do in life.

College is a platform that showed me a little bit of the real world where I learnt team work, conflict management , all through fun activities, games and projects .
This year I intend to fully seize all the various opportunities that come along with being a student of Little Flower Degree College and not missing a single one.

We all have experienced the confusion, insecurity and uncertainty at some point of time in our life which come with a feeling of ignorance. Maybe you keep sending messages to a friend who stopped replying who once promised to stay through your thick and thins. No matter what context, you’re left with unanswered questions and uncomfortable emotions that put you down. Now, what should you do when this type of situation arises? Each time I felt ignored by my closed ones at different phases of my life, I tried to walk through these following steps that totally repaired me and set me free from the false relations and emotions. (I hope this might help you too.)

1. Give the person the space: One of the most unproductive things you do is to send them constant messages, keep calling them or try to meet them without their consent. Instead, take a deep breath and give the person to cool off. Let them consider reasons that caused them to ignore you.

2. Make sure that the person is really ignoring you: Stop assuming that you’re being ignored when in fact you are not. Think whether this might be true of you. Start assessing whether you are really being ignored for reasons. Give personal explanations for what’s going on.

3. Avoid overreacting: When you know that someone is ignoring you truly, it’s easy to jump into all sorts of dramatic conclusions. Try to avoid lashing out and holding onto negative emotions. Remind your mind that many big situations have got solved peacefully.

4. Don’t let it consume you: Stop over thinking and relating yourself to the situations that make you feel devastated. Devote extra time to your hobbies; spend more quality time with your loved ones. Smile all the time.

5. Meet face to face: Whenever you can, make the conversation happen face to face. Speak your heart open and clear all the misunderstandings. If you don’t like to catch up, talk on the phone or exchange messages.

6. Apologize if necessary: This is the last thing you can do. If you’re dealing with someone who has been ignoring you because they’re hurt or angry about something you have done. An apology is the quickest way to move on. In the event you think you’ve done nothing wrong at all, yes you can, of course, apologize just to mend the relationship.
