There are certain words that become a part of our growing up process, indispensable and routine. A students’ repertoire is dotted with words unleashed during student life. Some words may have the potential of staggering and knocking us down with great force so much so that we have to grapple with them and learn to inculcate them in our daily lives in order to stand back on our feet again. One such word that looms very large on our minds is Motivation. We use it liberally, either blaming it for all our failures or applauding it for all our successes. Have we really comprehended its significance in our lives, I wonder? When our coaches or mentors tell us we lack motivation, we dart to every corner within eyesight/reach, in its pursuit which may on occasions seem endless and unfruitful. Our search result then either makes us come back satiated and smiling at having found it or grumpy and disheartened at having failed.

txt
rich_1512023206717
What are we attempting to seek? Is it a person, place or thing? Is it something elusive or within our grasp? When we attach motivation to a person we tend to emulate him or her and imbibe his or her way of life to achieve what we want in life ….sounds rather warped doesn’t it? Why should we follow what someone else has done to get what we want in life? If it’s a place then how does that physical location motivate us when we are based in another geographical location? Is it a thing? An inanimate thing? How can that add a meaning to our living animate lives? Hmm….. We live in dichotomies and does it make a radical difference if a few more creep in as we add this too to our daily existence?
Let’s revisit a happy positive word like Success - in our student life when we achieve it we are all smiles and are magnanimous and bestow appreciation and credit on our sources whether they belong to the living or inanimate kingdom and mouth the “If it hadn’t been for you or that …….”

Now fast forward to failure – dark, dreary and restricting, after which, without any hesitation, we partake in the blame game and mouth regretfully “if it had been this way or that way we would have ……….” In my opinion, it’s high time that you as students came to terms with the fact that motivation “is a resource that can’t be outsourced ’’ and this line, should provide music to your ears and be one of the sweetest sounds that you hear because of the wealth of meaning that it embodies. It’s now time to internalize that motivation and seek it “within.” We fail when we try to seek it outside – either in others, in situations or in things which are beyond our control. If for a moment we understand and comprehend that the cause of any failure or success rests with us and more precisely within us we would already be on the path of motivation. When the desire to achieve things begins within us it must also be fanned within us and flourish to its conclusion there. If we do fail, it is largely due to our inability to keep ourselves motivated enough to reach our destination, given that sometimes there may be insurmountable hurdles/odds which are not within our control.

txt
rich_1512023210386

What then is the remedy to counter the malaise of demotivation a term which is becoming very rampant in student life and being grossly misused to account for an individual’s failure? Whereas on the contrary, its brighter sibling – motivation is being used to shower praise on something or someone who we felt motivated us to achieve our success. The answer and remedy lie in ownership. It’s time to take the word by its reins and started owning it. It belongs to us and to nobody/nothing else. Time to understand that the buck starts and stops with us. It’s time to realise that we were probably confusing inspiration with motivation. So what then is the next step? What should do we do now? It’s time to look within and draw on our inner resources - our very own independent well of motivation that lies as a throbbing pulsating entity, a living organism within us just waiting to be tapped.

txt
rich_1512023331722

Wouldn’t we be truly motivated individuals when we learnt to look for Inspiration outside and motivation within?

Issac Asimov has to be one of my favourite Science Fiction writers of all time. The period he was active in was home to many of Sci-Fi's greatest writers, but Asimov is the one who had the most impact on me. As funny as it sounds, I didn't actually start reading Asimov until I watched Will Smith's I, Robot in theatres, which was an adaptation of his book.

Enthralled by the story and how it moved, enchanted by the three rules of robotics that Asimov lays down that, to this day, is still used by other Sci-Fi writers in their own works, I, Robot was my entry into the world of Sci-Fi outside of video games, the stories of which were inspired from the Sci-Fi greats themselves.

The Three Laws Of Robotics:

In the story, Asimov writes that every artificial intelligent robot must adhere to the three rules of robotics laid down by the creators (in this case, Humans). They are as follows.

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

As you can see, the three laws seem pretty air tight to quell any rebellion against humanity. But, are they really are?

I, Robot is one of those stories that make you sit back in shock and awe because of just how much the story blows your mind. It made me think just how can anyone be so good as to write a story this deep, this understanding of the nature of a human being and how survival instincts are put to the test when pushed to its limits. It asks us what the meaning of life is, what does it mean to be alive, it questions slavery, racism, trust and even friendship.

I, Robot changed the world, it changed how Sci-Fi was written, it influenced countless movies and even more video games. It is a cultural landmark, and everyone must read it.
"}]

No, I don’t miss him. But sometimes I just think about him.

No, I don’t want him back.
But sometimes I just feel like diving deep into those magical eyes, again, once again for the last time.

No, I don’t want to see him.
But sometimes I just want to hold him in my arms and lose myself right there, in that very moment.

It has been more than 2 years since I last saw him, since I’ve heard from him or even stalked him on Facebook or Instagram.
I still remember the first day I met him and I did not like the way he behaved. He was annoying. I remember how I couldn’t bear a sight of him being around me. But how could I change things? We were in the same college and a part of the same friends group.

We were studying Science and preparing for the entrance test for medicine. I however, realized that I did not want to continue with the medicine and left it but he was very determined. He took a long year and prepared for it. And; he did not stay in the same city for the preparation.
Everything was good so far. I had amazing friends, I started an organisation for social awareness, gained interests in the startup culture and was happy with life.
My organisation was a new one and I required volunteers for the few events I had planned to do. One day, out of the blue, I received a text from him. He said he was in the city for the next few months until he confirmed his medicine seat in a college and wanted to catch up. He also said that he heard about the organization and wanted to work with me because he wanted to do something productive during his stay here.

My mind told me that it was absolutely alright to talk to him because a whole year could have bought some change in him and he might not be as annoying as he was earlier.
Movies, coffee chance ons, lunch meets and 'hey, I was just passing by!' encounters had become a modus operandi for the two of us. Slowly but gradually we started to like each other and we did not waste a lot of time on the emotional drama. I was convinced with the sense of purity in his heart and did not delay in telling him that we could give it a try when he asked me out on my birthday.

Even though I was aware of the fact that this feeling of love is not something I could really handle, I did accept him for the way he was with ease.

You should know that I am an impudent, incorrigible, uncontrollable, arrogant and a self centered human being. Every time I failed, I was even more dangerous. I wanted things to be the way I wanted them to be. But yes, with him, it was different. And the irony is, this contradictory self image of mine with him was never the matter of concern to me.
I liked 'me' while I was with him.

I liked being there for him when he needed me.

I liked the fact that he let me stretch my legs on his knees after I had a very long flight one weekend.

I liked the fact that I was the only person who was a link to all the circles of his life; be it family or school friends or troubles or happiness.

I liked the fact that he told me that he wanted to be with me and none of the other people he knew, because I made him feel alive. I liked being his.

I liked it when he called my name with an imbued sense of calmness, love and serenity.

I liked the fact that he hugged me until I could listen to the crushing sound of my bones.
I liked the fact that he never wanted to keep his hands off me.

I liked the fact that he spoke to me gazing right through my eyes without the fear of being judged.
I liked the fact that he wanted to buy us similar tee-shirts though he hated to shop.

I liked the fact that he constantly kept asking me for a day-long date and was eager to pick me up.

I liked the fact that I was the center of his world, things started and ended at me.

I liked it when I saw tears in his eyes while I surprised him with a cake to celebrate his happiness on getting through his dream of walking on the path of being a doctor (soon).

I liked the fact that my only companion (my phone) during bad health beeped every hour with a message that said, “Don’t worry sweetheart, it is time for your medicine. You’ll be fine in no time because I love you more than that virus which has made home in you and I will not let this happen because it is only me who has the right to be yours. I love you!”

I mean; how could I not make him my world? How could I not fall head over heels in love with him? How could he be so perfect? How could a person like me end up being with such a charming guy? Of Course; he was the only best thing in my life and I’d never let him go. I could do anything to keep him happy, to stay with him and to make my life more beautiful than it could ever be without him.

Oh wait! I never envisaged even a mere possibility of not having him in my life. Not now, not ever. Him and me were meant to be together forever.
Hours became days and days became months. And now, the only thing which was changing, was our alacrity for being with each other.

When our weekly rendezvoused discussions seemed incomplete, we decided to increase the count by 2 per week. But this could only lead to a widening computation of a quotidian amount of laughter and fun.
My daily mornings embraced his presence. We jogged, played, walking miles together and had endless chats until we realized that we had to now wait for 12 hours to see each other again. The evenings turned out to be the most beautiful ones; 0% stress, 0% cranky behavior, 0% fights, 0% misunderstandings.

Phew! Could things get any better?
We understood what we had to say even without uttering a word. Seems very fictitious; but trust me; every bit of it is true! And we did not try and put in efforts to have the most sorted out relationship; it came to us naturally.
The only thing I wanted to do; was to be there for him. I did not want him to feel that he was alone. I never wanted to hurt him, belittle him or leave him. All I ever tried to do was to make sure he is doing fine, he is happy and he is sorted. Ours was the most perfect relationship. We were happy. And what else does a person want in a living except to be happy?

But; happiness never comes easy. There are situations you need to face which change the fate of your life. They change everything.
And one such time came in our lives too. It was a silent storm which took away everything from us. Everything.
He got a seat in a medical college, but in another city.

Different schedules couldn’t alter the love for each other but not being able to handle this separation caused a major setback in the journey of our relationship.
6 months after struggling and crawling through the aftereffects of the play of time; I remember he said to me, “The most unexpected happenings turn out to be the best love stories. And keep in mind that, couples which are meant to be, are the ones who go through anything and everything that is meant to tear them apart only to come out stronger.”
Reading this, gave me a sense of certainty, assurance, dependability, some sort of solidness in our relationship. I trusted him more than anyone else in the world and I wanted him to come to me as soon as possible, to hold me, to kiss me and tell me that I did not have to worry because things wouldn’t change.

But, time and distance could be crucial game-changers.
Indeed, in our case they were.
One random day; I received a call and I couldn’t feel the same thing from his end, some sort of coldness creeped between us. A deep feeling of woe filled my heart and I just knew what he wanted to say, what he was feeling and what was going to happen.

We did not speak for a quarter of an hour and there was a feeling of nothingness between us, sight of nihility, awareness of absence, and then consciousness of truth slowly creeped in and the only words which found their way through me were-
“BUT WHY?”
Yes, I understood that he fell out of love, I understood that we definitely made each other happy but there is a time frame for everything.
All I knew was, things had changed, for the better and for the worse at the same time. I was hollowed out. I was lost. I wanted to escape.
But where? To the future? The future where I never expected his absenteeism?
And what else could I do? I could do nothing but support him, be with him for what he felt and just leave it to time.

It was the most difficult, excruciating, petrified, and a frozen sort of time! But I had to pull myself together because he was not the only thing in life I had to concentrate on.
It wasn’t late for me to understand that he was definitely the most happening part of my life; but just a PART of my life, NOT the sole basis of my existence. He was not the only one I needed for my survival, for practicing my humanly right of being happy and feeling the good in the world.
I had to stand up again, I had to build myself, I trusted my instincts. But this doesn’t mean that I wasn’t sad.

I was broke- broken to an extent that it wouldn’t have been surprising for me to cut my nerves or jump from the top of a building.
But was I so broke that I’d become weak? Was I so grief-struck that I stopped valuing myself anymore? Was it right to be wretched and finish my life? Would it have been the right decision to let my blue blood paint words of tearful concern?
No. Certainly not.
I was made to be thrown at the wolves only so that I could come back leading the pack. I was born to be a warrior, not just a survivor.
I am meant to be strong enough to face and mature enough to grasp the cord of my emotions.
And now I stand proud to have been evolved.
All I have to do is embrace each part of my life with equal amounts of excitement and enthusiasm.

All I have to do is use the satellite technique and the pyramid technique to make sure I maintain positive levels of my sanity.
Yes, I moved on, but, I do miss him sometimes.
He remains a good piece of my distinct memory.

At least this way, I managed to bring myself together and I try to motivate myself every now and then.
This was my dark side and probably the bright side of love too.
"}]

Ah, The Internet.

The bastion of free speech and information exchange where everything and anything can be studied, watched and read about should one only posses the will to do find what they're looking for and teach themselves. The Internet, born out of taxpayer's money in the 60s in the United States and used to exchange information - which is its primary and base function even to this day and in the future as well - grew rapidly into what we see today, a nearly omnipresent utility in our daily lives.

Over the last couple of weeks, if you've spent some time online, you must have heard the term 'net neutrality' and people sharing articles in support of maintaining it at all costs. If you had any questions about that, we'll try and answer them in this article here. Don't forget to leave a comment below if you have any further questions and we'll do our best to clarify them.

Before we begin, let us come out and say that stuMagz is completely in favour of maintaining net neutrality. In fact, thanks to net neutrality, we have all of you wonderful readers on our website, an audience that our website has attracted without having to pay an Internet Service Provider any extra money to allocate bandwidth to us. If you're confused about what we're talking about, allow us to explain.

What is Net Neutrality?:

The Wikipedia definition is short and precise, 'Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers must treat all data on the Internet the same, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication.'

This essentially means that our Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like ACT, Airtel, Hathway, You Broadband and others are not allowed to intentionally discriminate or favour any individual using their service to connect to the internet. The ISPs are not allowed to make any backroom deals with websites to allow faster access to those websites in particular over their competitors, which encourages healthy competition, neither are they allowed to charge the consumers extra for the simple act of visiting these websites in the first place.

Of course, the rabbit hole goes much deeper than that. Without Net Neutrality, if you're a startup trying to compete with a giant in the market, the giant can easily pay the ISP extra to allocate extra bandwidth to their website that would, in turn, boost their businesses whereas your startup is starved for cash unless you turn money real quick and can afford to pay the many ISPs out there to allow unfiltered and unthrottled access to your website.

But we digress, Net Neutrality are basically a set of guidelines for your internet service providers to make sure the data they're providing you isn't treated differently based on their whims and fancies.

We strongly encourage our readers to check out Net Neutrality's page on Wikipedia, it is detailed and provides relevant information. Click here or on the following link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Net_neutrality#India

So Why Is The United States Getting Rid Of Net Neutrality?:
A slight correction: The United States of America's Federal Communications Committee has 5 commissioners that oversee affairs that fall under the purview of the organisation, which includes content that goes on Television and also the Internet. One of these commissioners, Ajit Pai, has recently unveiled a plan to repeal the policy that mandates Net Neutrality, with the commissioners voting on the decision on December 14, 2017. The vote is expected to pass.
Now, to explain why the United States is trying to get rid of Net Neutrality would require a long-winded explanation of American politics and we cannot assure our decorum will be maintained as we have a lot of things to say about President Trump and Ajit Pai, so we'll try our best to avoid the mudslinging and say that in The United States and indeed around the world, corporations such as Verizon, Comcast and Airtel back home, dislike Net Neutrality because they believe they should be able to control what a person sees online and that they should be curating the content we see, instead of the user paying for internet access and be free to use it as they please. To this end, Verizon and the other industry giants lobby the government by paying money and favours in exchange for a favourable judgement that would give them the upper hand. A 26-year old woman posted on Facebook that she was going to protest at Tahrir Square in Cario against Hosni Mubarak, the President of Egypt who had stayed in power for 30 years.

Her post went on to spark the Egyptian Revolution of 2011.

HYDERABAD getting warmer with the warmest tech events happening in the city
The city has created a holistic environment with dedicated entrepreneurship facilities and has also set up a robust infrastructure, both physical and technological. The city's tech parks, multiplexes and numerous corporate headquarters also contribute immensely to making Hyderabad one of the biggest and most efficient IT-Hubs not only in India but also the world. The Road to GES series creates transformative opportunities for investment and valuable people-to-people relationships, in addition to advancing a depth and breadth of inclusive collaboration to maximize the strength of cities/regions potential for prosperity.
The two of the events which I get to attend were ASIA INC500 and T-hub and ink presents route to GES2k17
ASIA INC 500 Honoured to address women leaders from different walks of life and give away Women at Work awards. The chief honourable guest was Katherine Hadda, new US Consul-General in Hyderabad. MS. She recently served as Minister Counsellor for Economic Affairs at the US Embassy in Rome.
The event took place with a welcome address by Mr. Raghavendra hunasgi (convener, asiainc500) and Mr. Srinivas kollipara( Founder and coo T-hub) followed by the award ceremony where leaders like Archana Das (An Indian women cricketer) ,pranati khanna,……which gave me a uplift nd spoke about different difficulties they have faced and in a very smart way they have overcome it.the different panel sessions gave me lesson about how an intrapreneur or entrepreneur should take up and handle all the scenarios ,clearly gave me a difference between handwork and the smart work, One of the quote I loved when I heard was “leadership belongs to those who take it” that day was a big day to me and inspired me to be an entrepreneur myself.
The second event was a two-day event hosted by INK the "Road to GES" on Nov 26-27 in Hyderabad, India along with NITI Aayog and T-Hub. Carrying the theme "Beyond Boundaries", Road to GES featured an interdisciplinary line-up of thought leaders and entrepreneurs from emerging technologies like AI, Big Data, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, and IoT, mixed with innovations in social and cultural entrepreneurship. The two days covered in depth discussions, practices and policies that will let India leapfrog the legacy systems and move into an innovative future. I was working with the media team in this conference and was the first time I got to attend such big events, this would never be possible without the team of stumagz who really found us deserving for this .
Some of the speakers who rock the stage were
Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao Hon’ble Minister for IT, MA & UD, I & C, PE, Sugar, Mines & Geology, NRI Affairs, govt of Telangana
Jay Krishnan CEO, T-Hub
Srinivas Kollipara COO, T-Hub
BVR Mohan Reddy Founder & Executive Chairman, Cyient
Raman V Kumar Chairman, CASHe
Amitabh Kant CEO, NITI Aayog
Sashi Reddi Founder & Managing Partner, SRI Capital
Amit Goyal India Head edX.org
Amit Lodha Inspector General of Police and many more .
the entire conference got enthusiastic when Nobel laureate kailash satyarthi and Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao addressed the gathering I still remember ktr saying “Government and governance within a country like India need to be innovative and deploy ideas “also added “The world is aging but India is getting Younger” he could math with the ideas of todays generation and lit the entire conference on fire.
kailash Satyarthi addressed the audience n said “you are the unprecedented and powerful tide of change, you are the real change makers, you represent disruption, innovation, creation and combination of ideas and ideas “the way robotics and AI are growing they will bring sustainable change in society and yet we live in a world where millions of children cannot go to school
IPS officer amit lodha said ,on whome the ajay devgan starrer GANGAJAL is based, appealed to people to contribute money at bharatkeveer.gov.in ,which will be used for the wrelfares of the relatives of jawans of our paramilitary forces killed in action.
Stars like USHA UTHUP , JOI BARUA performed at the event.
A surprise panel was organized with the media stars like RANA DAGUBATI and R.MADHAVAN (and the best part was getting a picture with him)
Attending such a huge event would not be possible without the support of stumagz ,I would really thank them for giving me this opportunity.

Vibhashi khanna
Stanley college of engineering and technology for women

"}]
It is amazing how fast time flies when you're not looking, especially when you're actively avoiding not shaving for a month for No Shave November. But now that the month is over and the purpose of No Shave November must be achieved. Gather all the money you saved by not grooming your hair this month and donate them to the charity of your choice, whether it is cancer research or another worthy cause that you feel needs your money, that choice is up to you. Me, I'm going old school, donating to Prostate Cancer Fund, which is basically why the No Shave November thing came to be, a way to raise awareness about men's health issues, and prostate cancer only affects men.

That being said, the following list, including the one I mentioned above, are some organisations that can put your donation to good use and conduct active research to discover a cure for this completely unfair and deadly disease at the earliest.

To stay with the theme of donating to cancer research, the first three suggestions on this list will be related to cancer research organisations, whereas the other two will depend on what I personally believe should be most highlighted. I will also include a link at the end of the article where you can find a table with charitable organisations of different fields and their ratings. Simply pick one, visit their website and donate!

I would also like to add that donation is not mandatory but it would truly be a service to mankind if you consider doing so.

1. Cancer Research Institute:

Based out of New York, the Cancer Research Institute tackles all forms of cancer and has been a major contributor in the fight against cancer. Some of the best minds in the field work here, and they are working day and night to find a viable cure for this deadly disease.

2. Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance:

I've literally seen people with Ovarian cancer waste away in front of my very eyes. The person who got it certainly did not deserve to go out like that. Ovarian cancer is not Leukaemia either, it is something much worse which often grows to insane sizes by the time the cancer ravages the body. I strongly urge readers to consider donating to this as well.

3. Pancreatic Cancer Action Network:

If you remember, Steve Jobs fell prey to this form of cancer near the end of his days.

Pancreatic Cancer eats away at your ability to produce digestive juices to break down your food and of course, is followed by rapid and unexplained weight loss and frequent stomach aches. I strongly suggest donating to this cause.

4. Child Rights and You - CRY

This NGO helps the forgotten and invisible children of the streets in India to get an education and build a future for themselves in a society that has all but forgotten them. CRY has been around for a long time, I remember seeing their advertisements as a young child and being terrified for the orphans of the streets because they did not have parents like me who would buy them ice cream. It has, since then, always been on my mind.

5. An Animal Welfare NGO:

There's plenty of animal welfare NGOs around the country for you to check out and possibly donate to, I'm dropping the link to Blue Cross Hyderabad since Blue Cross is a pan-India NGO that has been tackling animal issues for quite some time now. I'm familiar with quite a few Blue Cross Volunteers and I highly respect these people for their dedication to animals, especially abandoned dogs that are rehabilitated on their facilities and set up for adoption. There was this Great Dane once that had become untrustworthy of humans and wouldn't allow anyone to come near it, a great big sad dog licking the emotional wounds alone in the corner of Blue Cross's office. It was heartbreaking to watch.

Yes, this is back again! I'm writing about resolutions again which you know I'm going to do next month in January as well. I'm just as bored as you are about this topic but apparently people still need to be told that resolutions do not matter as much as their resolve to fix and become a better version of themselves does. The advice is going to be the same, more or less, not because I've run out of ideas, but because the ideas I've shared before work. They really work.

So how does one stick to their resolutions?

1. Start NOW:

I will shout this from the rooftops, mountain peaks, valleys and everywhere where my voice can be amplified enough to be heard by people. The key to keeping your resolutions is not waiting for the new year to roll by, but starting right NOW. Do it, wanted to ask that cute person out? Do it now! Planning on getting fit? Start NOW! Do not wait, do not think, 'oh I have time, I'll just do it from January 1st', no, screw that. Start now and don't look back.

2. Laugh at people who say keeping resolutions is easy:

I'm serious, point at their face and laugh till your stomach hurts. No, keeping your resolutions is not easy. It is a long and difficult path that requires tremendous amount of dedication that no amount of self-help books, videos, music or family's support is going to help. That motivation and discipline must come from within you.

Recognising that what you're about to start is your personal journey into self-improvement and that nothing that is worth it comes easy will make the road ahead much easier, which brings us to point number 3.

3. It's worth it because it is difficult to achieve.

If getting fit, quitting the cigarette, learning a new craft or fulfilling your dreams was easy, everyone would be doing it and then there would be no value to what you're doing. Now, obviously, everyone should be doing this, because the journey that you undertake to become the better version of yourself is one that will change you as a person, it will make you a better person and you will become kinder to those struggling along the path just as you, you'll realise that other people are just trying to survive and do their best despite their circumstances.

4. Do it for yourself.

The most crucial part of understanding and keeping your resolutions is that you have to understand, completely and unequivocally, that you're doing this for yourself and nobody else. Self-improvement has 'self' in it because you're the one that is improving and nobody else. Even if you're the least selfish person in the world, there is absolutely nothing wrong in being selfish about improving yourself. This will require tremendous lifestyle changes which you will be willing to go through with if you are selfish about improving your own life. No more night outs with friends, because you're hitting the gym in the morning. No drinking till you pass out, you've got a liver to take care of. It are the little things that matter the most.

5. Failure is inevitable, but it isn't the end.

Nobody is successful on their first trail, or their second. The road to self-improvement is fraught with the dangers of pitfalls and failures, many people (including myself) make the mistake of falling in a pitfall of failure and thinking this is where we deserve to be.

No, you deserve much better, and only you can guarantee that for yourself. So climb back out of that pit and keep going you champ, because you can do it. Keep your goal in mind, always, now and forever.
