Ekalavya was a great archer whose skill and devotion towards his teacher was unparalleled in the great epic of Mahabharata.

Little is known about this dexterous archer who has set a defining high for the word ‘Guru Dakshina’.When rejected by Drona, who only taught the kshatriya clan in the arts of war, the undaunted tribal prince Ekalavya taught himself the art of Bow and Arrow all in front of his idol(A literal one-yeah!) of his teacher Drona.

When Dronacharya discovered this, he was taken aback as he had already promised Arjuna to make him the world’s greatest archer. He asked for a guru Dakshina and this, as a custom back in the day which if denied was rebuked by all. Ramadan is the most precious month in the Islamic calendar(Hijri) and it is obligatory for the Muslim to fast in the month of Ramadan.

Here are some interesting points that shows the importance of Ramadan in Islam.

txt
rich_1465474126224

1. Allah has made fasting this month the fourth Pillar of Islam.

Allah revealed the Quran in this month.

Fasting Ramadan is a means of expiation for the sins committed since the previous Ramadan,so long as one avoids major sins.

txt
rich_1465474628823

3.Allah has made Laylat al-Qadar(The Night of Decree/Power) in this month, which is better than thousand months.

Laylat al-Qadr (Arabic: لیلة القدر‎‎) (also known as Shab-e-Qadr ), variously rendered in English as the Night of Decree, Night of Power, Night of Value, Night of Destiny, or Night of Measures, is in Islamic belief the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad. It is one of the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan and is better than 1000 months of worship. Muslims believe that on this night the blessings and mercy of Allah are abundant, sins are forgiven, supplications are accepted, and that the annual decree is revealed to the angels who also descend to earth.

4.In this month, Allah opens the gates of Paradise and closes the gates of Hell, and chains up the devils.

Every night Allah has people whom He redeems from the Fire.

5. It is Sunnah (tradition/practice) to observe I'tikaaf (retreat for the purpose of worship)in Ramadan.

txt
rich_1465477019745

6.It is Mustahabb in the sense of being strongly recommended in Ramadan to study the Quran together and to read it to a great deal.

It is important to read the Qur'an along with a translation, as Allah tells us: “It is a Book that We have sent down to you blessed, so that they may contemplate its verses and so that people of understanding may take heed.” [38:29] It is good to recite the Qur'an, even if you do not understand it, but the ultimate purpose of its revelation was for us to imbibe its teachings and incorporate them in our lives.

These are opportunities that we have been given to attain forgiveness for all our sins. The spiritual doctors of the heart are in agreement that fasting softens the heart, making it more receptive and humble to the recitation of the Qur'an. Perhaps this is the wisdom that links together fasting and night prayer, the two most distinctive acts of worship in this month.

Study gang, sitting gang this is the term we used to call ourselves. we are about 9 people who used to meet only during our exams. These are the rules that we followed strictly during our group study.

1. No one was asked to come on time but the mandatory rule is that we should not start until the last person arrives (unity is how we define it)..

2. Wi-fi should be switched on as soon we go to our study place (Nagashiva's home).

3. Everyone has to choose a topic/ chapter .Distribution is based on the rule "First come First serve" (so we used to come early).

4. It is the responsibility of that person to request /beg all the remaining to listen to his chapter (Listeners are the heroes here).

5. The most important rule of study gang was "NO ONE SHOULD ASK DOUBTS WHILE EXPLAINING. HE CAN BE ELIMINATED IF HE ASK DOUBTS" .
