Reserve Bank of India(RBI) is the central banking institution of India. RBI controls all the monetary actions of the Indian rupee. According to the provisions of the Reserve Bank of India Act,1934 it commenced its operations on 1 April 1935 during the British Rule. RBI plays a major role in the Development Strategy of the Indian Government. All these thing are known to us,but their are some facts that many of us doesn’t know. As the citizens of India we need to know these facts.
1. We start this from our RBI logo. The RBI logo was inspired by the East India Company Double Mohur.
2.Do you know when the financial year for RBI starts? It starts every 1st July.
3.RBI is responsible only for printing the currency notes. Minting of coins is done by the Government of India.
4.Do you know who is the first woman to become deputy governor of RBI? She is K. J. Udeshi and was appointed in 2003.
5.RBI was also the central bank for two other countries. Till June 1948 it played the role of Central Bank of Pakistan and the Central Bank of Burma until April 1947.
6.RBI does not have second class employees. It has 17000 Class I, Class III & Class IV employees.
7.Manmohan Singh is the only prime minister who served as the Governor of RBI.
8. RBI has 29 offices in the country which are mostly located in the state capitals.
9. You can’t find these “I, J, O, X, Y, Z” alphabets on the number panel of the Indian Rupees.
10.All the existing twenty alphabets are used as insets. Reserve Bank of India doesn’t reveal which inset alphabet/ letters are assigned for which printing press for security reasons.
The headquarter of RBI was in Kolkata initially, but in 1937 it was permanently moved to Mumbai. It also has two training colleges for its officers one is Reserve Bank Staff College at Chennai and the other is College of Agriculture Banking at pune. RBI can issue currency notes as much as country require, but it has to take security deposit of Rs. 200 Crores, out of which Rs. 115 Crores must be in gold and Rs. 85 Crores must be FOREX Reserve.
