It was a dark night. I was alone in my house as my whole family went out to attend some functions. I was just in my room, lying on my bed and reading a book. Not just any book I was reading Haunting of Hill House, an amazing and terrifying book. I was shaking but I continue the book. And in the mix of it, it was pouring cats and dogs. And suddenly the power gets cut off. I began to search for my phone which I left somewhere on the bed. When I had it, it was dead. I forgot to charge my phone when I came into the house.

I need to go to the hall in search of the candle. I found the candle but I couldn't find the matchbox to light it. Irritatedly I sat on the couch and I think I saw someone shadow on the window there for a second, it might be the illusions of my mind because I was a horrifying book. I was trembling inside. Then I made a brilliant idea of lighting the candle with the help of the stove. So I went into the kitchen and found the lighter broken. This was the worst time for the lighter to be broken.
As I was walking out of the kitchen I heard dogs barking at someone. So I went out to see what's the matter was. There was no one moreover every house was burning with electricity except mine. I was alarmed and I ran back in closing the door behind me. My thoughts started to pour in scaring me for all sides, 'what if the shadow that I saw was not some trick of my mind? What if that was real? What if someone is trying to kill me? Why would someone kill me?'. I said to myself gathering all the courage I have left "I can't these thoughts make me tense. I have to fight back". I went into the kitchen and took a knife then I remembered I saw a flashlight on the second floor of our house. I ran up the stairs, slipped some steps here and there but reached there and started searching for the torchlight.

As I was searching for it I hear a big gong in the house. Along with that, I hear a couple of footsteps coming toward me. I tried to reach for the knife which I thought I kept but the reality was I forgot it on the table in the hall. I was trying to turn on the flashlight but it was so old. Even when it lights up, lit dimly. So I hold the flashlight as a rod and said to myself "kill or get killed" and started swinging the flashlight towards them. Actually, it hit one person in the head and he crashed to the ground but the other person covered me with the blanket, tied me and then dragged me down the steps to the hall where I think I was made to sit down. I was still throwing punches in the air, trying to hit the people but couldn't land any. Then the blanket was removed.

The copious stream of photons was hitting me hard. I can only see a blurry image of a few people shouting at me and could not hear a thing for a moment. When I came out of that shock and I could hear somewhat clearly. When I heard the words which took in a frenzy of emotions and I couldn't control my tears which were coming down my face and those words are the words which I would never forget and they are "HAPPY BIRTHDAY PHANI!"

There was a cake in front of me, loving people around me, tears in my eyes. Everything I was grateful in my life was there in front of me and the words came out of my mouth that time was "F*** you man". There were a lot of hugs after that then we went in and cut the cake and then people started telling me they said there side of the story, the 2 people I fought with are my friends who were already in the house, keeping an eye on me, the person's shadow which I saw was one of my friend trying to find me by peeping through the window in the dark, the dogs of my neighbor were barking because these guys were jumping the fences with cake and drinks which unplanned along with the rain too. They are in fact the people who cut off the power to the house.

I thought I was going to die at some point in the night. They scared me to the core. you know if you want to give the best time of life and they shouldn't forget it then give it in the most unexpected way possible, just start by making it the worst day and end it with the surprise of their life and This was the best birthday surprise ever...
Hey, and the gong sound that I heard, was from the wall clock hitting midnight of April 29th.
"}]

When you see an image of Subhas Chandra Bose, the first thing that might pop up into your head would be a memory of you being in school on Republic Day or Independence Day and seeing a kid dressed in that uniform with round glasses, taking part in the fancy dress competition. Another thing that would probably pop up in your head would be a vague memory of having studied about him in a history class, remembering him as one of the many freedom fighters who were instrumental in the country gaining freedom from the British but there's a lot to him. Today, i.e. January 23, is his birth anniversary.

What most youth of today don't know is that this man started involving himself in the freedom movement when he was just 24 years old, in 1921. A year later, Bose was elected the President of All India Youth Congress and also the Secretary of Bengal State Congress. A few years later, he was imprisoned for the first time for being a part of the freedom movement. In 1927, when he was released from prison, he became the General Secretary of Congress and started working actively with Jawaharlal Nehru. He did all this, before he turned 30.

Later in 1930 and the subsequent years, he travelled extensively throughout Europe, meeting with then leaders like the Fascist leader Benito Mussolini and saw communism and fascism in action. It was during this time that he also wrote the first part of his book - The Indian Struggle, covering the Indian independence movement between 1920 and 1934. The book was later banned by the British in 1935.

Three years after that, Bose became the President of the Indian National Congress and later organised the All India Forward Bloc a faction within the Indian National Congress, aimed at consolidating the political left as he didn't agree with the methods of other leaders like Gandhi and Nehru. It was around this time that he started believing in the possibility of a military action to take over the nation from the British. After he was put under house arrest by the British, he escaped to Germany via Afghanistan and the erstwhile Soviet Union. There, he founded the Free India Center in Berlin, and created the 4000+ strong Indian Legion out of Indian prisoners of war who had previously fought for the British in North Africa prior to their capture by Axis forces. In Germany, he hoped to gain the support of Adolf's Hitler's forces against the British but later realised that Hitler was only interested in using his men to win propaganda victories than military ones and realised that Hitler's Germany was in no position to win against the British.

Later in 1943, after being disillusioned by Germany, he travelled to Japan and later in Singapore, took complete control of Indian National Army from Rash Behari Bose, the founder of Indian National Army. He was able to reorganise the army and gained massive support from expatriate Indian population in South-East Asia as they enlisted in the INA en-masse and also financially supported the INA.

It was around this time that he famously said the words "Give me blood, and I shall give you freedom!", urging the people of India to join him in his fight against the British. After a few skirmishes and key battles allied with Japan against the British in Burmese territory, notable in Meiktilla, Mandalay, Pegu, Nyangyu and Mount Popa, the INA was ultimately defeated after Japanese forces were defeated and a large proportion of the INA troops surrendered under Lt Col Loganathan.

On August 18, 1945, he was killed in a plane-crash in modern-day Taiwan, though there have been several conspiracy theories that he survived that crash. However, it was his steadfast stance and advocacy for complete, unconditional independence played a key role in the freedom movement and he is now remembered as one of the crucial elements of the Indian Freedom Struggle.
"}]
Putting wrong foot in the right sandal. Writing beleive instead of believe in english dictation. Not remembering the nine table in mathematics because we knew the 9 to 1 trick. Eating too much of horlicks and adding 2 more spoons of sugar in milk before drinking were the only wrong things that I was aware of at the age of 8.I had too little knowledge of too much to know that touching and being touched had a loving and predatory side to it. It was a hectic tuesday with humid air and sticky pigtails with little sweet smell of jhonsons shampoo in my brown hair. Grey Pinafore over white blouse with a small tie was the school’s dress code. Sand ingrained in nails, eyes tired after a long day and after my shiny black shoes into brown after too much running was when we decided to take an auto back home. What would 2 kids, one 8 and the other 10 know about getting an auto. My brother and I ran towards the most facny looking auto and started our 20 minute journey.Being the little brat sister, I had the privilege to drown in sleep during our ride back home whilst older brother duties of getting back home safe were being taken care of. My sleep was soon out of the water when the driver offered me to sit with him in the front. He bribed me with handful of eclair chocolate.Soon I was sitting with him in front, devouring the chocolates that couldn’t even fit into my fist. I remember he’d ask me questions like my favourite color, best friend’s name, number of moles on my body, favourite food, the color of my nail paint and my underwear, favourite parent, favourite rhyme and favourite teacher touching me all this while. My back touching his chest, hands on his lap, his nose in my hair, too oblivious to what was happening to me all the way back home. It didn’t feel right but it also didn’t feel wrong. He also promised me that it was our little secret which couldn’t be shared with anyone and it was only for the lucky ones like me who’d get a chance to experience it.I remember the touch, the chills and the sweet taste of the chocolate which is now unholy, impure and gut wrenching.A part of the sexual harassment is that I think it was my fault that I accepted chocolates. It was my fault because I felt ashamed for answering him.It was my fault because I pushed the incident down for 6-8 years, denying to the fact that I was only 8 years old and I had no knowledge whatsoever of what was actually happening. This is what harassment does to you.
"}]

There's an old adage that says 'give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day but teach him how to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life' and that is exactly what students affiliated to the CMRIT chapter of Street Cause did earlier this month. The 40-strong team decided to give a sustainable way of livelihood to women at Abhi Sai Datta Trust Orphanage by giving them sewing machines.

As to why they chose this way, Akshit Muppidi, the team leader of the women-empowerment team at Street Cause - CMRIT, says, "We always felt that providing employment to 4 people for a lifetime is better than feeding 40 people for a few days. Moreover, the women empowerment team at Street Cause has always been striving hard to work along these lines so we decided to take it forward and that is why we got the idea to do this."

They chose this particular orphanage as it would also help the children there in addition to the ones who will directly be benefitted by it, as Akshit explains, "The reason behind choosing this place was the fact that the income generated from the sewing machines would benefit the women as well as the young children present there. That orphanage has been struggling for funds, so we thought it is better if we enable them to make their own money."

They raised the required Rs. 19550 at a fund-raising event and then kickstarted this project.

"We also had support from a few college faculty members and our director Dr. M. Janga Reddy and that is how we were able to form our college division of the organisation in the first place and after we formed, we had a fund-raising event where our team worked hard to raise the funds," shares Akshit, adding, "The management at the orphanage has also been very supportive in us doing this."

One fine day, I was traveling to Goa. All of sudden I remember my friend, Ambica. She gave me a book so I could read while traveling and not get bored. But I dint knew that this will be more fascinated than going to Goa.

It was 9:00 pm, I started reading the book. The book was about the Cinderella. I can't put it down until I reach the last page, because it was so interesting. I completed reading and I was exhausted. I saw the time in my watch, it was 11:30 pm. I thought to take a small nap. Then the actual journey started. Out of nowhere I entered into the book which I read. It was a dream world.

I saw Cinderella sweeping the house. I was above to go and talk to Cinderella meanwhile her step sister took a jar and throwed on her, which passed through me. I seen myself invisible there and nobody can hear me.

As I know the whole story I wanted to recreate it in a distinct way. The next day Cinderella step mother and her step sister's were getting ready for some formal meet. Even the Cinderella was interested to go along with them. But they refused her. They said her to sit at home and do all the house hold work. She cried a lot and started writing her wishes in the dairy. As I was invisible I sat beside her. I saw her writing her wishes and then striking them off, because she knew it won't happen in her life. So she throwed her dairy, and started cooking dinner. By seeing her I felt bad and I wanted to help her. I want her to be independent. So, I took her dairy and wrote in this way,

"STAND ON YOUR OWN LEGS.

PAT YOUR OWN SHOULDERS.

WIPE YOUR OWN TEARS."

The next day when she opened her dairy she saw these sentences and got inspired. She thought being independent makes her strong. So she wanted to be independent. She ran away from the house and went into the forest. She took shelter under a tree and made herself so strong. She made animals like elephants, deers, etc as her friends. She developed herself and became strong. She started solving the problems of people and she created a small kingdom for herself.

By seeing her smiling face, I felt happy. At that movement I could hear one of my favourite music's and then I heard a hard voice saying "get up, we need to get down". Then I opened my eyes I saw my brother in front of me and my was was ringing.
"}]
