We have heard a lot of instances of deaths or mental depression because of the fake news spread over the various media resources. Recently we witnessed an incident about Elsie Kibue, a Kenyan woman and a resident of London who was labeled as 4th Uganda Corona virus victim but she actually happened to be safe and lying on her bed in London when she first noticed this fake circulation over Whatsapp which was informed by her friend to her husband that morning. It had her photo which was taken at her volunteering work in London long back but now misused stating her as Uganda’s virus victim astonishing her. She was actually a Kenyan and moreover haven’t visited the continent since 2013. This was explained by her through a video which is available at the BBC website. UNESCO declaring India’s National Anthem as something like the best , certain blood or organ or operation expenses requirement related fake messages are prevalent. I was coming out of a nasty bout of 6-month-long depression in 2018 when I posted this on my social media.

Here’s to all the broken souls. The ones who can’t sleep at nights. The ones who stare at blank ceilings. The ones who down substances, good bad and ugly ones. The ones whose eyes never have a glint of happiness. The ones who can only fake a smile. The ones who hide behind anger. The ones who hide behind humour. The ones struggling with depression, anxiety, and more. The ones who think they have mental health issues. The ones who strive to make the world interesting because it’s drab for them. The ones who are struggling to get out of bed every single day and get through the day. The ones who are told to just think happy thoughts and be done with it. The ones who think they’re above the ones who smile. The ones who think they’re below the ones who smile. The ones who are now awake, at this witching hour in the middle of the night scrolling through social media and wishing their lives were as good as the ones they see here. I have written a lot about mental health, suicide prevention and more in the last 8 years or so as a professional writer but what prompted me to dig up a two-year-old post of mine from Facebook and write this now is the fact that an actor's apparent suicide yesterday has gotten the entire social media in a frenzy with everyone seemingly becoming an expert on mental health issues.
The ones who are posting about mental health are the same ones who most likely would have said "lite lelo" or "don't think so much" to their friends or a loved when when approached with a problem. Fake news is not something new that has came into existence post the emergence of Social Media. It was present earlier as well and continues to exist now too. Just the medium changes. This time the medium is the Online Social media platforms, such as Facebook, WhatsApp, etc., to spread the lies and misinformation.

In other words, just as the fire triangle needs the three essential elements to sustain, similarly, the Fake News or misinformation needs three major factors, motivation to propagate misinformation, tools to propagate misinformation and a platform with a good outreach.

Social media is one such platform where all three are present simultaneously. Fake news is not new. But, the problem has started arising when the people are considering social media as their source of information for news updates. A video clip drops in, which could part of a bigger picture, which the people start believing as the ultimate truth.

So, how does the misinformation impacts the entire social fabric?

We, as a social being, are associated with a lot of strings that are essential for our survival and existence. No two people are the same as everyone has his own set of notions and values that they wish to adhere to. The minds of the people are curated by the sources of information they rely upon, be it society, news, or their social circle. If the information that they receive has tampered, even to a certain extent, the entire thought process of that person is chartered in a different direction altogether. Regular exposure to such sources develops a polar mentality in the people as a whole.

People in today's' times are more focused on the easiest source of information gathering, which for them is Social media, fast, fun & convenient. Not that Social media is the only way to propagate such news. It is more or less omnipresent. The media is biased, propagators are active who do this as a profession, and more to it there are people who exploit some of the illiterate people by tunneling their vision with their vision and version of reality. There are people who do all sorts of stuff on a professional level, from discrediting news to instigating false propaganda around you.

How much impact does it have in any dimension?

Let's evaluate the scale of impact a piece of false news can have. In 2016, Trump supporters started boycotting Pepsi over a comment that its CEO never made. As a result, the impact was such that over the course of time, PepsiCo's Stock prices fell by 5.21%.

According to a report by EU DisinfoLab. At least 265 fake news websites, operating in more than 65 countries, which are being managed by Indian influence networks, which aims at influencing various international institutions, and their elected representative, and swaying the public image of Pakistan. Misinformation related to the Pandemic of COVID-19, in the form of Social media messages pertaining to advisories, conspiracy theories, and home remedies, are also at large in the public domain. So, considering that the fake news is omnipresent won't be a wrong statement to make.

How do we battle it?

It is unfortunate that we do rely blindly on such news information, without knowing the entire matter by ourselves. Probably the people are not able to properly demarcate between information and correct information.

We need to ask ourselves certain questions, like What is the source of the information which is coming to us, and what is the credibility of the same? Are there any supporting sources of the same? Are we biased towards a particular topic to a certain extent? Who is the propagator of the information, and is that credible enough to believe? Are we getting it cross-checked via some experts?

If the answer to any of the above is "No," then we need to re-think, and then probably we are the prey of the misinformation being spread and also contributing to the damage of the societal fabric. Till then, yes, that trust element will be hampered by the misinformation being spread.
"}]

So India is up in everything! Sports in India ranges from most of the tribal games played in gullies to mainstream sports such as Cricket, football, badminton..etc

Just move over the above statement we just not read it but yes Cricket is always the most popular sport recognized in every corner of the country. Yes of-course India has hosted and won many Cricket World Cups. It is undoubtedly most popular and is governed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India and is most popularly known as Men in Blue .

But all of us know that India is large populous country and we have many other sports that are played by most of us. We are popular for Indigenous sports among the people from the martial arts, board games, street games, field games, and proud for hosting sporting events like Asian Games, Hockey World Cup, Commonwealth Games and have been part in the Olympic Games and won Olympic medals and is succeeded in making names in athletics too. So this is just to highlight that our country is not just a star in cricket we have many other talents in sports which should be lighten up and supported a little more.

And the sentence "Sheer dominance of cricket" . This is because India's emergence as the world's cricket superpower and also has cricket politics, and has future in the global politics. And this cannot be erased on any case growing since 19th century higher and higher. India has swept about their dominance at home by setting up records and they deserve it too.

And yes, most of the sports in India are definitely not making up a mark and most of the players are not being recognized. India has the best Badminton players, has a fabulous Hockey team, good in Football, Tennis to a level and next comes Kabaddi, Athletics, Chess, Roll ball, Throw-ball, Handball etc. So why are we making a list on the order of preference? and why does Cricket always stays at the top? We should bring up all the sports to the top make noted and give an opportunity to all the sports people who has talents in several other sports. They should be encouraged and should definitely be supported to grow up and come over in different media to be familiar. Its because Cricket is popular and known to everyone and so should all the sports be known to every corners of the country.

Due to COVID-19 there has been major upheaval on this sporting calendar, many major events have been cancelled or postponed, and changes are happening regularly. Also note that not every sporting event can be listed here, though we have tried to include all the big sporting events of the major sports, mostly the international senior competitions. But our view on this should be like each and every sport should be treated equally and should bring up to higher levels and respect the history they have.

And so might be other sports aren't making a mark but that doesn't mean it is due to the sheer dominance of the cricket in the country. And this especially has introduced a lot of the historical old sport events in the society due to the quarantine days. Make sure we give a value and treat every sport event in the society. Sporting should not be for the crowd but for the Country, the pride.

with the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Lockdown 2.0, India on Monday began partial exit from the lockdown imposed earlier in March to tackle the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Conditional relaxations in certain selected sectors outside coronavirus hotspot areas come into effect from today as the government attempts to kick start a battered economy. While some states have given a nod to easing of lockdown measures from April 20 onwards, many states have decided not to lift curbs amid a surge in coronavirus

Raise of the "Relaxation":-

txt

Past Scenario:

There is no question of any debate that cricket is killing other sports in our country. Indians eat, live, sleep, talk and walk cricket. Theoretically we all know that hockey is our national game but in practical vision its cricket maniac all over.

Indians just need an excuse to celebrate. Remember the epic party that followed after we won the 2011 World Cup?Hindu? Muslim? Sikh? Christian? When it comes to Cricket we are all Indians!

I agree that there several TV channels that cover cricket specifically.

Its a common sight that young children are playing perfect cricket with bat and ball in lanes, streets, gardens. But people don’t know how to play other sports or what are the rules for other games? A budding sports kid who is almost as tall as the bat he holds claims that some day he would be like "Kohli". Why not like "Rani Rampal" or “captain Manpreet Singh"?Answer is very simple that they don’t know about these heroes. We cannot play here any blame game because it’s our society who is responsible for this situation.

We do have Sindu, Sumit Nagal and Mahesh Bhupati bringing laurels to the country in the field of tennis; a Vishwanathan Anand in the field of chess. They all play hard to bring pride and glory to our country just as cricketers. It was a time when hockey commentary delivered by commentator Jasdev Singh holds the breath of nations’ listeners. That sensational wave sound has now vanished from radio sets and stadiums. Other games like chess, tennis, and hockey are craving for true status as cricket game.Cricket is not our national game, but it is celebrated as a festival. It has been used as a bridge between two nations. Our country’s politics also get active with these sports. Players of international fame and caliber in other sports are not given the proper media support and attention as well as proper facilities for further development. Media hype and money involvement in cricket game are the main culprits for cricket ruling the roost, to the detriment of other sports in India.Paradoxically our country is still struggling hard to form a good football team. Day by bay Indian football is losing the little charm it had gained. Recently JCT club has decided to disband and fold off its team. It was not very shocking news as even Mahindra United decided to discontinue its football team last year. Same happens with our national game hockey. There was a time when India did win the Hockey World Cup in 1975 and people showed a keen interest in the sport, but not so anymore. The sport has died a natural death from lack of leadership and sponsorship.

Present Scenario:

However we do have quite a few channels which cover other sports as well.

And tournaments like Pro Kabaddi, Pro Wresting, ISL etc have seen huge footfall and have provide financial support to players from these Sports.

It used to dominate but the situation is improving now. In the last 1 decade players from other sports are also getting required attention. Particularly after the 2008 Beijing Olympics sports like Wrestling, Badminton & Boxing etc too have seen a sharp rise in viewership. These sports ares grabbing people's attention these days. And the media should also focus on other games too. I'm sure other games also become highlighted in the coming future.
"}]
So I am back, to talk about the most cliché topic ever, "The Side Effects of Social Media". Cliché but interesting nonetheless. It's surprising how much we do under its influence, both good and bad things. Now influencer reminds me of a paradox, did social media influencers become influencers because they wanted to become influencers as in get the tag of an influencer because it sounds cool or because they actually wanted to influence people? We know ourselves, we do a lot of things just because they look cool to the people out there and something is in trend but not because we like doing it. Not telling that everyone and everything is fake, but yes, most of it is or maybe not. This whole thing is a paradox. Sometimes you get confused between your interests and people's interests. The following quotation could serve as a fitting analogy for that situation: Losing yourself in the process of loving someone.

txt

Heavy, right? Few days ago I was practicing aptitude with a friend, to have moral support and a competition to keep us moving forward with a purpose. It could be called a virtual group study and when we took breaks for even 5 minutes, he'd send me at least one post from Instagram saying 'Hey look! This is funny'. It sure was funny, but what struck to me was the idea of spending a break of 5 minutes with Instagram. It isn't wrong at all, nor is it bad because that's a live proof that social media is providing relaxation and peace to people by making them laugh and sometimes even motivating them. A contrasting example is the time we spend with our friends, I know it's the same old boring story but it breaks my heart (I'm sure it breaks yours too if you don't belong to that circle) when our friends meet and all they focus on is uploading an interesting story or making a Tik Tok video. But that also ends up becoming the moment of the day many a times.

txt

All in all, social media makes us do stuff. Sometimes great ones, sometimes bringing in negative thoughts and influence. We start feeling worthless looking at others and suddenly think 'I can do this too!' and start off on a new road. We sometimes lose control and sometimes learn to be patient because of the addiction. We sometimes get close to the people we never expected to ever talk to and sometimes break bonds that existed since years. It all happens there, in that world, just like ours. Like every other thing, social media has two sides to it too, trick is to look for the brighter one ;). See ya soon!

txt
