One of the major concerns for liberals in our country is the fact that the conservatives spew a lot of hatred in various channels; whether it is writing about it or talking about it or using social media for the same. This kind of hate-speech is what led to the whole 'India is intolerant' angle, and rightly so because the said hatred was projected against everything and everyone whose views were even remotely not aligned with the right conservative party. But at the same time, a lot of digital platforms which are supposed to be the voice of the youngsters in the country, do the exact same, albeit with the opposite perspective.

As a left leaning liberal myself, though I agree with the perspectives portrayed in these platforms, I do not agree with the presentation and portrayal of these very perspectives. I agree with and firmly stand by the beliefs and the concerns that need to be raised - political concerns, gender concerns, concerns against prejudices and taboos, casteism and a lot more.

For instance, there is one particular digital platform that raises serious questions about openness, breaking taboos, sexuality and gender but that platform again, talks about these issues in hate-filled ways. While raising awareness about taboos is absolutely needed in our country; I believe outrightly condemning the taboos and blaming religions (which is done by platforms like this one) will only alienate the ones believing in those (who constitute the majority in the country) more and will most probably act as a reinforcing factor.

And especially in a country like ours, where a major cultural shift has been happening over the past two decades (to which a significant chunk of the population is against); openness about sexuality, gender equality, freedom of speech and healthy political debating is necessary and should be brought in carefully by well researched, meaningful, analytical and neutral content.
"}]

It's true that humans, when the world was just created or we could say born with a big bang, were the first natural immigrants. But did you know that elephants are natural immigrants too, just like us they like to move about and mark their own territories? For millions of years, if they felt that the conditions were unfavourable they just moved. Simple right? Sometimes I wonder if we humans could also move like that. How exciting and fun it would be!

But coming back to the point. For example let's consider South Africa's North -West Province's exclusive 75000 hectares Madikwe Game Reserve, it had a very few number of elephants at the beginning, later the herd started swelling. So naturally elephants being the immigrants decided to make their own corridor according to the ancient elephant migratory routes. Basically the 21st century elephants following in the footsteps of their ancestors (just like we Indians do ;-)). Corridors have huge benefits because wildlife can move to different vegetation areas. It's the most natural pattern for the elephants compared to the other wild animals.

Now,the fun part elephants check into a lodge in Zambia! Yup, when the builders of a five star hotel lodge in Zambia constructed their hotel over an ancient elephant path. They assumed that the pachyderms that annually used the trail in order to get to the area's beautiful mango tree would reroute their course. But these animals are no cars or jeeps to reroute just because a lodge is in between. The herd just walks into the lodge initially scaring the hotel managers and workers. But eventually they got used to it too. The elephants walk in so gracefully and relaxed that not a thing is disturbed. Though wild animals are unpredictable these gentle giants sure do know the meaning of discipline better than humans. We sometimes get to learn a lot from animals too and to be honest it does open our mind and also tells us how small the world is and yet we know nothing about it.

A word that is commonly used in everyday speech, but often misinterpreted by many. People fail to recognize this word as what it actually means rather than what they understand about it. The 'feminine' part of the word is what makes them recoil, at the very mention of it.
But what does it really mean? The political, economical and social equality of both men and women. That’s right, feminism can be very well viewed as a synonym to equality. Equal opportunities, equal rights, and equal minds.

With frequent incorrect use of this word, the meaning of it has been under the shadows of negativity. When the word is used in a casual conversation, people immediately start judging that it’s the same old sob story of women needing attention. But this is my small effort to give validation to the word. We do not need attention, we need respect, opportunities, freedom and everything else that the men of the society have been entitled to from the very beginning of time.

To progress as a society, we need to join forces and not put each other down. Let’s keep this in mind the next time this word is used incorrectly, feel free to correct them. In the words of Malala Yousafzai, “We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back.”

"}]

Money. Apart from being an amazing Pink Floyd song, it’s a pretty good thing to have, apparently. That is in case our governments wants us to, but let’s not talk about the that just yet. Being a country of a almost a billion and a half, we are bound to be in need of it at every stage of our lives. From buying that little plastic bubble blower to getting your own means of transportation, money sets your mental stability.

Talking about mental stability, let’s specifically talk about the part of our lives where we are at the most matured and capable of making decisions. Our teens and early 20s. Okay, now that we’ve agreed on the timeline, coming to the basic understanding that most between this age gap are students, money is a virtue and comfort few have. How does one fuel this need for money. The obvious choice is work, but who would want to employ a sophomore? Being the hasty generation we are, conventional methods of earning just don’t cut it anymore. This is where the crux of the article comes in. MLMs or Multi Level Marketing Schemes, or just plain simple Pyramid schemes offer that quick buck and being so accepting of everyone who wants to be a part of it slowly have and are becoming an easy option for students.

Pyramid schemes or MLMs are not illegal in India. There is an abundance of evidence and first hand experience from participants who will vigorously argue on how vital these “Corporations” have been for them in leading a glamorous life. So let’s build on that exact concept. The glamour, as a fruit of building a ‘downline’ as they call it, in the cheques they cash every month, right to the show room cars they’ve booked before completing their bachelor’s. Everything right in front of you. It couldn’t all be wrong, could it? It is real. The money, the bikes, the cars, the trips that you see are real. All carefully rendered to motivate another customer to join the ranks.

This is an important part to the functioning of Pyramid schemes. The flair and pomp is not for the sake of it but holds a special purpose. It acts as a sign of financial stability and controlled funding. Most MLMs target vulnerabilities in the crowd. In terms of students, a bike, usually a flashy one. A tailored suit, glasses, and tiny details which usually go unnoticed but are vital to separate the ones in the system and the ones who are not.

What you don’t see are the 60% who drop out of this structure in the first month. All you see are the ones who’ve reeled in enough bait to float their boat. As rheotorical as that may sound, it is true. In order to be good at MLM you need to sustain the exponential growth. Growth which needs each person in the structure to further contribute a number of participants, let’s say 5, to the downline.
Well, according to basic mathematics, this 5-5 rule can only be achieved for an estimated 7-8 cycles before the entire population of the earth is exceeded.
Think about that for a second. Now, each Corporation has it’s own twist to this core model of marketing. Some don’t directly ask for registrations but do so in terms of products or commodities sold/bought during a certain interval of time.

The most common mathematical bait used by these schemes is the idea of earning your money back by filling your quota of minimum additions. If you’ve done the math on this, it becomes apparently simple. Just go out, get something like 9 people registered for the fee charged or products sold and lay back while the others do the work for you. At some point let us assume the chain is broken. For the sake of understanding, let it be the second wave of enrollments. Now that a complete array of oppurtunities have been excluded, there’s the extra pressure of others in the link to deliver even more.
But where can someone get the numbers from? The obvious and sad part of this scheme is that it requires the victim/participant to enroll his friends or family. Apart from the awkwardness of this transaction, there is a certain lack of ethics in asking your friends and family to grow your business. The simple idea behind it being you can trust them in building your reach. There’s been an ample amount of research and statistical proof against the said practice. The idea of bossing someone you’ve known for a long time, into doing work for you, in itself should direct the moral compass south.

With all this being said, how does one actually know if it’s a Ponzi scheme?
Well, some ways to know you are operating in a questionable business if there’s:

1) No physical product being exchanged for money- for example a pass or a login ID being issued for the fee paid.

2) No refund policy on all products purchased or distributed.

3) No physical office of the parent company registered in the city or region.

4) Products are unreasonably priced in comparison to usual competitive market pricings.

5) Company policy towards taxes is dicey and not clear

But one thing is for certain. The ones employed to recruit are persistent to say the least. Constantly fuelled by the need to reach targets, they usually see compatriots as cattle. Like just another cog in the machine. An unsaid dimension to this persistence is the fact that at some point during every interaction they either have to lie to themselves or the ones they’re trying to recruit. A lie that they’re doing this for someone else, or the opportunity won’t present itself like this often. That money won’t be an issue anymore or that the earlier you get in the better off you will be in the future.
Now the end part is true, although partly. A fundamental concept of pyramid schemes is that the one at the top will always end being the profiteer from every transaction or business done by company. At no point can a member of the 4th division be the biggest winner in doing hard work. Each arrangement has different bonuses or incentives to reaching a milestone. While some have levels, some have fancy names, and few others have power ties. Imagine working the hardest you’ve ever done only to see the one directly above you in the chain take a bigger fruit. This is only partly true because you’ll be way better off if you never even indulge in the fiasco that is MLMs.

Theres a certain void in terms of the laws governing the legitimacy of these groups. Theres needs to be a stricter policy informing the public about the numbers behind such schemes. False advertising need to be addressed with scrutiny under the National Consumer code. But most importantly it is the duty of us as individuals to have an informed debate on the issue without just pushing the topic aside for being a bit controversial.

Have you been asked to become a part of such a ponzi scheme?
Here’s is a website to check the details about every such corporation registered under the Ministry Of Corporate Affairs:
http://www.mca.gov.in/MinistryV2/index.html

1. Scroll down to the ‘I want to..’ side tab on the left of your screen

2. Click on ‘View Company or LLP Master Data’

3. Click on the search icon next the Company Name bubble

4. Enter the name of the company to check financial details and beneficiaries.

Be informed before making your choice. Do not give into peer pressure. And most importantly, don’t rush into making money.

"}]
I spend my time dreaming. About the endless possibilities, the innumerable fantasies that seem to be bottled in a day. I live in the assumption that one minute in an hour can change how I see time, rather how I can seize time. Can alter my views about hatred and also love.

How a conversation, the right one with the right person can become a memory so mysterious, that it’s how you have begun to think now. It determines how you see life itself. An array of conversations, some rare and few non-sensical. A few humorous and some hideous. How a single conversation with the wrong person can determine how you do what you do. How one word, though not a sentence is a totally legible response. How a gesture, though not always recognized is sometimes more than words can speak for themselves. How one single evaded conversation wasn’t as complex as you dreaded it would be? How it turned out to be life-affirming and enticing. And what you assumed would be as breezy as the wind turned out to be a storm, whose after-effects still seem to reside within you. Both, the repercussions and the reiterations.

How, one frustrated question and a fitting reply can make you look back to who you were and who you have become. Yes, maybe life is indeed just a tangled mess of conversations. A few with family and some with strangers, and those, with strangers who become family. It’s that jumbled mess, these conversations whispering secrets and those declaring love; that somehow make your memory more dear, and the mind uncannily clear.

Life is indeed, that conversation that you seem to have with yourself.

So, next time you question yourself whether or not to speak, don’t hesitate. You will be missing out on life you see.
"}]
