Costly restaurants, classy people and a perfect meal. Those days are gone, after the start of a new trend in India - 'Street Food'. For a middle class group, with a bunch of friends to spend a perfect evening, street food has become the perfect choice. No matter what the location is, how the surroundings are, there is always a perfect meal. Street food has become the main source for many people in India. Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad are on top of the list of best street food cities in India.

The world suicide prevention day passed a few months back followed by the world mental health day and both the topics trended on social media with an overwhelming number of people showing their support towards the people suffering from anxiety, depression and other mental disorders. It’s great to see millions of people coming forward to show their support and sympathies and smashing the belief that mental disorders are a taboo and need to be kept in covers if one suffers from them.

Sad part to the scenario is that even though numerous people are willing to support and promote mental well-being among people, there is not much awareness about what one could do (apart from making tweets) to support the ones around them who might be suffering mentally.
No one can tell you about the life with depression and other mental illnesses better than people who are actually going through it.

Here’s a few things that anyone suffering from depression or anxiety and other mental disorders would want people around them to know, just because you cannot see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Depression is as chronic a physical illness as any other but the symptoms are invisible to anyone apart from the one who feels them. It is an antagonizing feeling to live in this constant state of frustration where no one really sees that suffering till they’re told of it.

Depression and anxiety make a person more sensitive of other’s behavior towards them and it is when one is depressed that their loved ones start trying to distance themselves and try being lesser around the person suffering from depression because no one wants to be subjected to their negativity and frequent breakdowns. This just intensifies the suffering to the extent that loneliness at worst can lead to death.

The fact that one has to take anti-depressant pills can be a major source of embarrassment for them and they will be reluctant to talk about it even if they want to unwind themselves by sharing their experiences with others because they would rather bottle up in themselves than being judged. It’s high time that we de-stigmatize mental disorders and talk about mental health and make people feel comfortable in talking about all the mental turbulence they face.

The little anyone could do for them is understanding that depression doesn’t just mean sadness and not shaming them for being a negative influence because little of it is in the hands of the one who suffers from it. Constant state of hopelessness can be exhausting for anyone even a little love could prove to be a substantial element of change in their lives. It takes a lot of patience to support someone emotionally especially when they’re having a difficult time but they deserve your compassion and companionship as well. All we need is a little more awareness and all you need to do is, talk.

Indisputably and unapologetically, sports hold the power to wedge a gap or drive a rift between cultures and masses at once. A nation, a state, a city or even neighborhoods in the same locality can have deep reservations about whom they support in an event. Be it the community cricket matches or a league some 4,000 miles away, sport dictates it’s own terms. Maybe it is one of those traits of humanity that can never be understood by machine or an algorithm.

Each person has a part of their own in the ones they love. They feel the pain, the anger, the sorrow, the hope and share the joy and jubilation with our sporting idols and teams. Now, don’t get me wrong, not everyone sees a game in the same light. For many it’s just a distraction. For some it’s an escape from their worlds. For some it is their world. Be it cricket, basketball, football or tennis. Having a game of chess, darts, or even a good hand of cards. Everyone connects to different details.
The world would be a different place without sports.

Some brute, some sophisticated but none smaller than the other. Passed on from generations gone by, everyone has a bias to a team. Fans would have it no other way. Sport is absolutely that. A powerful backhand or a deft turn of the wrists to guide a ball over the net brings as much joy to the viewers as an original Pollock. Performance art of the highest order. Motivation and hunger like art can come from anywhere. Some are blessed with the knack for art and some work their behinds off to get the cake. Nonetheless like all art forms, art has to pay. And sport pays. Well, for the most part. Success stories of sporting legends starting off from selling doughnuts for a living to making $56 million in one night are uncommon but inspiring.

That is what sport does. It inspires. Masses, thousands and millions can put their troubles aside to witness sporting history. Not just at the highest level but eager kids pouring their heart out to learn and practice to achieve a level of perfection reduces even the ignorant into believers. Sport is not a right, but it deserves to be. Sport has stopped civil wars, caused brawls, begun conflicts, brought diplomatic relations closer, but most of all entertained. Show business with unscripted endings are unmatched in their appeal to the world. The right to support one idol, one team, one nation, one ideology needs to be respected and encouraged."}]
I sometimes wonder why Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged is so popular with Indian readers, mostly among the class that would describe themselves to be above politics, completely missing the actual message of the book which is quite political and popular among the conservatives of the world.

Ayn Rand's world view is very shallow, the book itself is full of hypocrisy, one dimensional cardboard characters which could be easily be replaced by programmed robots and there would be no difference, even its plot is unnecessarily dragged out like a soap opera gone horribly wrong. It presents the concepts of libertarianism as Ayn Rand sees it and and it's so bad even actual libertarians among my friends are embarrassed at the mention of it.

In Rand's head, everyone who agrees with her is the specimen of humanity, tall, handsome, beautiful, rich and successful while the exact opposite of this is true for those who disagree with her views, the villains of the book as she writes it. Anyone who disagrees with her is a villain who are ugly as sin and take no pleasure in the things they do, but do it anyway.

The book follows a series of characters in a dystopian United States of America where characters, as she writes about them, can only be described as a bulls running towards a wall, they refuse to listen to reason, they are beautiful and everyone else is ugly, and their views are so pure they cannot be changed, a core tenant of Objectivism on which we will come back to later. I frankly do not know who is more annoying, the characters and their ridiculously selfish behavior, or Rand for writing a painfully long and dull book that could have easily been chopped in half.

Rand received negative reviews when she released her book for the first time in 1957, which probably has something to do with a 70 page long and boring speech about Objectivisim and how being selfish is awesome by Dagny Taggart in the book, but has since then picked up steam after Rand's Objectivism philosophy came to the fore a few years after writing the book. Today, there are still many people who think she has a point and recommend the book to their friends.

Obviously, as this review suggests, I do not think highly of Ayn Rand and her selfish and egoistical world view, but this is my personal view, and if you think you want to read it and form your own opinion about it, then I encourage you to go ahead and buy the book.

You can buy the book by clicking here.
"}]
I do not understand how a university could judge skills of a person, their intelligence, with a few pieces of paper, and yet, Exams exist.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying exams and tests are inherently wrong, I'm saying the way they're conducted has a lot left to be desired. As a wise man once said, you cannot judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree.

My point is, people are unique, in any given class there are those who want to pursuing their dreams of an athletic career, those who want to start a business and those who's interests lie in subjects not being taught are wasting their talents and time with a single rigid form of testing in our schools and our colleges. If a student isn't interested in a subject, no amount of force or fear is going to help them learn it.

Our books are outdated, our examination style is outdated, and yet Indians wonder why we create Engineers on paper only, those who have a degree but are simply not employable by anyone because they lack any practical knowledge and experience of working with real life problems and finding solutions.
Once again I was not saying the exams are wrong but it's process of expecting all students getting marks in same way is wrong, the method and the archaic system used to decide a student's future is borderline human rights abuse.
Until the day our education system accepts the different kinds of students, there is no hope for those of us stuck in systems we cannot escape from.
"}]
