According to Wikipedia, a troll is "a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal, on-topic discussion, often for the troll's amusement."

A 16 year old girl who acted in one of the most successful movies of 2016, was trolled extensively on the internet over the past few days. Yes, I am talking about the Dangal actress Zaira Wasim and she was trolled after her meeting with Kashmiri Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti - who praised the teenager and said she is an inspiration to the youth of the state. She was trolled so much that she posted an apology on her Facebook profile, saying "I know that many people have been offended and displeased by my recent actions or by the people I have recently met. I want to apologise to all those people who I've unintentionally hurt and I want them to know that I understand their sentiments..."

She also said, "I hope people still remember that I'm a just a 16-year-old girl and I hope you treat me accordingly."

So if a successful teenager meets with a Chief Minister of her state and the Chief Minister congratulates her, she becomes a target for trolls. The argument here (by the trolls) was that Ms. Mufti used Zaira's achievement for her political gain, conveniently forgetting last years' violence across the state which left hundreds dead and thousands injured. The trolling, again, was based on the trolls' religious and political affiliations. Labelling her "unislamic" for having acted in the film and driving her to the point of saying "To even consider me as a role model would be disgracing" is something that is very shameful on our part.

While "intolerance" was a word that was extensively used to describe our country over the last one year, I believe it is instances like this which reaffirm the usage of that word. If the Ms. Mufti was trying to cash in on this teenager's achievement for political mileage, trolling Ms. Mufti would probably have made sense, as most politicians are like that but as to how right is it to troll a teenager for acting in a movie (and doing an extremely commendable job, considering it's her debut); is something I leave you to decide.
"}]

At an event in Toulouse, France, on January 18 2005 Airbus A380 was first unveiled. It was initially named Airbus A3XX manufactured by European Union manufacturer Airbus which challenged the Boeing's monopoly in the large-aircraft market. It was designed by four teams; Aérospatiale, British Aerospace, Deutsche Aerospace AG, CASA partnered with Airbus to facilitate a collaboration of new technologies. Alex Rutherford is a pseudonym for the Husband-Wife writers Michael and Diane Preston, who have co-authored this book and several other historical fiction and historical non-fiction books. Having extensively travelled across the world, they also spent a year researching in India and their extensive knowledge on the Moghuls becomes evident when one starts reading Raiders From The North, the first book in their Empire Of The Moghul series.

Raiders From The North follows the exploits of the first Moghul king Babur, from 1494 (when Babur is forced to ascend to the throne of Ferghana (in Uzbekistan) by the untimely death of his father. Babur, then 12 years old, struggles for power and manages to capture Samarkand and in the process loses Ferghana and later subsequently loses Samarkand and then comes South to conquer Delhi, establishing the Moghul Empire.

As a 90s kid who studied about the Moghuls in school and who heard stories about them from elders and other sources, I've always had this larger than life image about the legendary rulers; with specific, conditioned perceptions about them. For instance, Babur was this person who randomly came to India, Humayun was his son who couldn't be the king for a long time, Akbar was the greatest, peaceful person, Shah Jahan was THE lover and Aurangzeb, the evil man. This book, and its sequels, change that perception entirely; presenting the reader with an insight into the rulers that these Moghuls were; portraying them as normal humans with very human emotions; talking about their transformation from barbaric warriors of Uzbekistan to the sophisticated, art loving rulers who ruled India for almost three centuries.

This book and its sequels change those perceptions, by presenting to the viewer a neutral perspective, besides answering several questions that one might have had about the kind of life people led in the medieval period. The book would not be complete without a significant amount of gore while writing about medieval times but that also is presented in a classy way. More like a BBC report rather than an episode of Crime Patrol.

Much of this book is taken from Baburnama, the memoirs of Babur and the writers have done an extremely commendable job in combining that, with other memoirs and recreating his life. Though literary freedom has been taken at instances, the appendices at the end of the book clearly say which characters actually existed and which ones were composite ones based on several real life characters. This, perhaps, is what I loved the most about this book.

For every history buff, I would definitely recommend this book. For non-history buffs, I will still recommend this book because this will teach you a lot. You can buy the book here.
"}]
Jallikattu, the bull taming event, is an annual Tamil tradition that has survived the test of time, it is an ancient sport that originates in ages when cattle herding, cultivation and hunting were the primary occupation of people. Scholars estimate the sport to be around for over 5000 years, with references being made in ancient Tamil poems from 2nd Century BCE, to Indus Valley civilization depiction of the 'hugging of the bull'.

Animal rights group People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA for short, argue that the sport exploits bulls, and have posted a video that highlights the cruelty with which the bulls are treated, often prodded on by sticks, sickles that cut into the bull's skin and rubbing irritant into the eyes of the bull, which often causes the bull to run head-along into the crowd over the barriers and run into traffic, running off the road and break bones. Following their investigation in 2013 and a campaign against the sport, on 7 May 2014, the Supreme Court of India struck down the state law and banned Jallikattu altogether. The Supreme Court noted that any flouting of the ban should result in penalties for cruelty to animals under The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. This, of course, has not gone down well with Tamils and supporters of the ancient sport.

Supporters argue that an ancient tradition cannot be stopped just because the Supreme Court bans it, the fact that conducting this sport is now illegal has only caused many people to conduct the festival in defiance of the SC order, leading to mass arrests with 30 people arrested and 240 detained into preventive custody in Alangnallur area of Madurai district in Tamil Nadu. The main line of argument is that such an old tradition must be preserved, since it has survived, against all odds, over many thousands of years. One more, and perhaps a saner argument in favor of the sport, is that it preserves bull species, which have been going extinct over the last 100 years with farmers adopting newer methods of farming. Against the 130 breeds present in India 100 years ago, only 37 exist today, and with a ban on Jallikattu, breeders and supporters argue that the remaining species will also die out and go extinct. Tamil Nadu had six cattle breeds earlier and now we have lost the Alambadi breed. The remaining breeds are Kangayam, Pulikulam, Umbalachery, Barugur and Malai Maadu.

Both sides are on social media, battling it out in a hail of personal insults, actress Trisha deactivated her Twitter profile following a hail of abuse directed towards her for speaking in favor of the ban, whereas actor Kamal Hassan has openly supported the sport, saying if Jallikattu is banned, biryani must be banned too.
