On first glance, Sakshi Jain looks like just another 12th class student worrying about writing their board exams, but there is more to this young woman than what meets the eye. A winner of multiple medals of Race Walking in the Athletics discipline, we speak with Sakshi about race walking and her future in athletics.

"I love Basketball," she says, "I've been learning and playing it for a while now, but Race Walking was something that I decided to do one day upon encouragement from my teachers."

Race Walking is not as easy as it seems, because according to rules, the athlete's competing in the event must have at least one foot on the ground at all times while walking, and to top it off, it is a long distance event.

"I've always been interested in sports, and with Basketball, I've had an opportunity to represent my district and then my state in Nationals," says the young athlete who's been a part of multiple national level teams.

Sakshi, who credits Basketball as her passion, didn't let it hold her back from participating in Race Walking in District, State and National levels, "My biggest inspiration has been my mom, I do not know where I would be without her constant support. She has always been there for me, and for that I'm eternally grateful."

Slowly, I started participating in district and subsequently, national level competitions, right from when I was in 10th class. In 11th, I finished 3rd in Basketball and 1st in Athletics, and the following year, in 12th, 3rd in Basketball and 2nd in Athletics," she says, smiling, "the very first tie I participated, I got a gold."

Sakshi also credits her coach, Amita Jaiswal, for helping her on her path. "It is with encouragement from my teachers, mother and my coach that I am where I am today" she says.

Apart from the world of Basketball and Athletics, Sakshi also likes to read books and listen to music. She is currently finishing her board exams and starting preparations for LAWCET. Upon being asked on what she would like to tell her fellow young people, she says, "Passion is great, but passion isn't everything. It is not just that you get coaching, you need to have what it takes to go that extra mile, which will make all the difference."

"I like to do things differently, you see, people have these set ways of doing things and I find that restrictive. I don't see myself not being an athlete at any point in my life. This is something I love and will continue doing" she says in conclusion, upon being asked where she sees herself in 5 years.

The team at stuMagz wishes Sakshi Jain all the best for her future endeavors.
"}]

Negotiations and agreements are a part of everyone's daily routine, but when it comes to negotiating salary at a job interview, students and even experienced professionals are apprehensive and nervous to crack the deal. There is a very thin line of difference between negotiation and argument, here is what can help you come out as a winner through the negotiation.

txt
rich_1490167605212

1. What is Negotiation?

To perform a job a better, you need to understand it well. Primarily in a negotiation; you do not choose out of many options but choose one and try to create a consensus there. Ultimately you need to create an irresistible deal for the other party that is conducive to you as well. It is all about how you can convince them that you are worth what you want as a package. Negotiation is both an art as well as science. Art because you need skills like be being bold and communicating well to the other party, which is to some extent innate. A science because this persuasion has to be done keeping in view a certain set of rules and guidelines.

2. Why is it important in a Job Interview?

First of all, when you negotiate, you have a better chance of getting paid what you need and want. You also get paid for your value, not just your time. Not negotiating your salary can lead to being underpaid. That is bad for your bank account, your health, and your job.

3. What kills your confidence?

Many students and even experienced professionals are nervous to negotiate because they are scared to lose the job. Even when you perform well in the interview, you hesitate to negotiate because of some inherent fears that bring down your confidence level.

It’s the feeling that you are not good enough as the others.

It’s the feeling that the other candidates may not negotiate so why would you?

Or it’s the feeling that, you may sound greedy when you negotiate for a higher salary so they might not want to hire you after all.

What one fails to realise is that when you channelise the discussion with the right approach, you will seem more confident and ambitious.

4. How can you crack a good deal?

First, you need to convince yourself that you are worth the job. For that, you need to learn everything about your field of work and quantify how your skills directly add value to the business you are considering to work for. For example, if it is Electrical Engineering, you know that you have your Electrical Engineering degree and you have effectively learned the fundamentals of how to perform your job as an Electrical Designer. Look back throughout your career or university projects to evaluate the work you did and the results you created. That is how you boost your confidence level.

Take help from industry experts and mentors so that you do not commit any mistakes. Do a little research about the company and the employer so that you can decide what to expect from the recruiters. Be prepared and controlled through the entire discussion and that would help you create a good impression.

College life a very important part of every individual’s life. We all are at a certain threshold after passing out from school. That’s when we have to take a very important decision.
