I'm yet to watch a documentary that has moved me as much as I Am 20 has.

This is a simple, 18 minute documentary film made in 1967 by a director named S.N.S Sastry, commissioned by the Films Division of India, a state run organisation responsible for making informational documentaries of India,, among others. Of all of their work, I Am 20 is undoubtedly the most iconic.

The premise of the documentary is that Sastry seeks out young men and women born on August 15, 1947, our Independence Day from the yoke of the British Empire, and asks them questions about how India, a once proud country now broken and brought to its knees by the empire, is treating them, what they think about the country, their hopes and dreams, ambitions and inspirations.

While the premise itself sounds exciting, nothing prepared me for the interviews I would hear in the documentary itself.

Sastry is a clever director, even while making a documentary. Frustrated, no doubt, with the lack of opinionated 20-year olds to be found in 1967, Sastry bent the rules a little and went to IIT Bombay, where he would interview a wide variety of 20-year olds, not just those who were born on the 15th of August, 1947.

The most immediate thing we notice is not the setting, not the people, but what they have to say. The young 20-year olds express dissatisfaction with the government, pride in their country's independence, hope and cynicism for the country's future. As I watched, jaw dropped, interviews of men and women who were 20, 50 years ago, it struck me like a bolt of lightning just how much had changed since then, and it saddened me even more that so much had remained the same.

Young men and women, despite a difference of half a century, seem to still have the same level of discontentment with the world and their country, some 20-year olds display a maturity and knowledge well beyond what is expected of their age, like the only named person from the documentary, T.N. Subramaniam, a soft spoken young man who carried himself like a professor with tenure.

"It's become a fashion to gather and hate the country," Subramaniam astutely observes, before saying that things needed to be changed and that he would love to be a part of that, "It's an experiment, and I would like to be a part of that."

The reason I'm posting this now, at the beginning of the New Year, is because I want to tell you all, us all actually, us 20s somethings disillusioned with the country, that this is not someone else's country but our own and it is up to us to fix it as the days go by.

What I also want to say is that you shouldn't be required to take this enormous responsibility on yourself, if you want to leave the country for greener pastures abroad, feel free to do so, it is your right to do so. But if you're the kind that wants to stay back and fight, all I want to say is that you're not alone. You'll never be alone.

So remember that while I do not fault you for leaving the country, I just want to remind you that India is a constant wound that we must care of, if for nothing else but because it is ours, it is mine, it is yours, it belongs to us, this country, this land, belongs to us, and it is up to us to keep it as open as possible and share it with fellow sons and daughters of the soil.

We have to become more accepting, kinder and gentler with people, we have to realise that the rat race we were all part of since our childhood only encourages screwing over the other person due to over overpopulated country causing a constant fight for resources. We have to realise that India, while it is yours to inherit and shape, also belongs to the people around you, with their various beliefs, sexual orientations and goals. We should strive to create a truly open and free society where people like the admin of Humans of Hinduvta does not have to fear prosecution and does not have to face death threats on the lives of his wife and child, where men and women are equal and where people are free to love whom they want to love.

That is my idea of India and I'm willing to fight for that in 2018. I strongly encourage you to check out this documentary, I've posted it below.

2017 is almost coming to an end, and everybody is making plans to welcome the new beginning by partying with friends and family.
The New Year is the time at which a new calendar year begins and the calendar's year count increases by one. The month of January derives its name from a two-faced God named Janus. Janus’ one face looked forward while the other looked backward, this is why, and the New Year’s Day is a national holiday celebrated on January 1st, the first day of the New Year, following both the Gregorian and the Julian calendar. This holiday is often marked by an array of fireworks, parades, and reflection upon the last year while looking ahead to the future’s possibilities.
New Year’s is one of the oldest holidays still celebrated, but the exact date and nature of the festivities has changed over time. It originated thousands of years ago in ancient Babylon, celebrated as an eleven day festival on the first day of spring. During this time, many cultures used the sun and moon cycle to decide the “first” day of the year. It wasn’t until Julius Caesar implemented the Julian calendar that January 1st became the common day for the celebration. The content of the festivities has varied as well. While early celebrations were more paganistic in nature, celebrating Earth’s cycles, Christian tradition celebrates the Feast of the Circumcision of Christ on New Year’s Day. Roman Catholics also often celebrate Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, a feast honoring Mary. However, in the twentieth century, the holiday grew into its own celebration and mostly separated from the common association with religion. It has become a holiday associated with nationality, relationships, and introspection rather than a religious celebration, although many people do still follow older traditions.
Typically the customs and traditions of New Years Day involve celebrating with champagne and a variety of different foods. New Years marks a date of newly found happiness and a clean slate. For many celebrating New Years, it is their opportunity to learn from the prior year and make positive changes in their life.
Though the celebration varies around the world, the common traditions that are followed across the world are making resolutions, which is mostly about starting a healthy diet, ditching the old, bad habits, and living a healthy life; partying with the dear ones, typically with champagne, feasting, confetti, noise makers, and other methods of merriment Fireworks, parades, concerts; and many more.
The way how different countries celebrate the New Year’s Day is pretty amusing. In France, New Year is typically celebrated with a feast and a champagne toast, marking the first moments of New Year’s Day with kisses under the mistletoe, which most other cultures associate with Christmas celebrations; while in America it is celebrated with a party featuring toasting, drinking and fireworks late into the night before the New Year, where the gathering counts down the final seconds to January 1st.
Although, in India, people dress up colorfully in their best suite and indulge in fun filled activities such as singing, dancing, clubbing and partying. Night clubs, movie theaters and resorts are filled with people of all ages during the New Year’s Eve. Exchanging messages, greeting cards and gifts are part and parcel of the New Year celebration. The media covers many New Year events which are showcased on prime channels for most of the day.
Larger cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai organize live concerts which are attended by well-known personalities. Large crowds gather to attend such shows, such fun filled activities during New Year is considered a great opportunity to get closer to the loved ones and to revive contact with lost friends. The idea is to wave goodbye to the year gone-by and welcome the New Year in the hope that it will invite truckloads of happiness and joy in everyone’s life.

Raise the glass and say cheers to 2k18!
Happy New Year to all, in advance.

1514380890948
txt"}]

To be great you need to fight. The biggest advantage one needs to have to attain success is that one need to be hungrier than your competitor. In this era, we need to work both hard and smart. Initially, we need to stop wasting our time on doing things what we are not good at. Some people really work hard but please understand, if you work for 18 hrs a day and you suck shit, you are lost. We need to put ourselves in a position to win with our strengths because it is the straightest line to success. Greatness comes from adversity, by looking the challenge into the eye. Because if you want yourself to be travelling in Rolls Royce with a ton of money in your pocket, WORK, that's how you get it.

Because there's only one way to conquer this world, it is through putting yourself through the paces, learning what it means to be a leader by making mistakes and learning valuable lessons, Failure is the greatest teacher of all as Master Yoda says.

So Work, work even if you fail, even if you succeed, the seeds to your greatness will only be laid when you decide you want them laid. Go forth, conquer the world.

"}]
When you really have passion around something, you really squeeze every last second you have in acting up on the goal at hand, that’s Hustle. It is maximizing the energy you put into something. Giving your heart and soul emotionally and executionally to something you feel like doing for the rest of your life. We just need to be super aware that we all have only one life. You can’t ask someone to go get more talent it’s just stupid. But you can ask them to work harder, to increase their attention span. You can ask someone to go for less happy hours, stop watching house of cards or the game of thrones. Hustle is the most controllable thing to change the outcome of what disappoints you. People who hustle are the happiest.
"}]
The eternal rat race that was inevitable with the increasing population of the country has to come to a head sooner or later, but the effects are already being felt, with people emphasising more on competition to fight for limited resources and preferring to leave their peers in the dirt while they benefit. In times like these, Swami Vivekananda is a beacon in the darkness, an inspiration like none other.

"You have in you all and a thousand times more than is in all the books, you can do anything in the universe. Never weaken, all powers is yours," he said once.

Swami Vivekananda has many such gems of inspirations for the youth today, in fact, for the youth from the time he was alive to this day.

Sayings like 'Character has to be established through a thousand stumbles,' 'The greatest sin is to think yourself weak' and 'We need the heart to feel, a brain to conceive and a strong arm to do the work' have resonated with the youth for generations and continue to do so even today. His sayings even inspired Subhash Chandra Bose, who then decided that siding with the Nazis just to spite the Germans was a good idea. Pro-tip to the readers: Siding with the Nazis is never a good idea.

Bose said of the Swami, "Reckless in his sacrifice, unceasing in his activity, boundless in his love, merciless in his attacks and yet simple as a child. He was a rare personality in this world of ours."

It is always a good idea to remember Vivekananda's teachings in our darkest times so we may find inspiration and move forward, push forward till we achieve what was meant for us to achieve.

Arise! Awake! Fight until you achieve success.

"}]
As quoted by Harvey Mackey, "Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it you can never get it back."
Though "time" is just a simple word, it has a vast meaning in itself. It is the most valuable asset of one’s life, as it has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters.
One of the great examples for it is our own honorable Prime Minister: Mr. Narendra Modi, who belongs from a poor family. There was a time when he use to work at a tea stall. And today, he is the Prime Minister of India. It is all because of his hard work, and commitment and mainly, his utilization of time.
Time is an essential part of everyone’s routine. It is directly related to basic etiquettes such as punctuality and time management. Time plays a greatest role in making memories in everyone’s life and these memories last until forever. It teaches life lessons, limits you to deadlines. Time, is simply asking someone what time of the day or night it is. There are times of happiness and sorrows; it heals wounds and sorrows. Hence, time is associated with every sphere of life.
It is also said that life and time are two best teachers. "Life teaches us to make good use of time, and time teaches us the value of life." This simple quote defines the value of time very beautifully. It is a precious gift for your loved ones. The greatest gift that you can give someone is your time, because when you give your time you are giving a portion of your life that you will never get back.
We all make time for what we feel is important. People set goals in accordance with time. A lot of people take resolutions, as New Years' is on our way. It is the time of happiness and also welcoming the new times of the coming year. Years passes by with the memories of happiness, sorrows, joy, hard work, mistakes, guilt and fights. When the bad time comes, people wish for a time machine to get back and set everything right. But in reality, is there is no such machine and will never be. It is the characteristic of time; ones gone will never come back. Hence, one must live a transparent and a happy life and enjoy the time, because "Time is not measured by clocks but by moments."

The concept of New Year Resolution started off early in the western hemisphere but slowly found its way to the eastern hemisphere too as the world got more connected. Because resolutions are a culturally and socially acceptable form of procrastination.

Okay sure, I'll admit, everyone procrastinates, I'm quite notorious at procrastinating, in fact, so why am I talking about - lecturing even, you might say, about procrastination? Because who better to talk about how New Year's Resolutions are procrastination repackaged and repurposed to suit people's needs than someone who is quite notorious at it.

January is actually quite a good month for anyone who has made a strict resolution. Even if things go well, you soon find that people who were serious about changing their lives, quitting smoking, losing weight, working out are all slowly dropping out of their new found hobbies and going back to the old ones. You tell yourself that one day won't hurt, that one day becomes two days, a week, a fortnight, eventually a month. You feel guilty, you rationalise the guilt saying that your friends are not going anyway or not following their resolutions anyway, so you'll be alright. Then December comes again and you are back to square one.

The key to being successful with your resolutions is to believe, truly and utterly believe that you are going to change your life. This is, sadly, not the case with a vast majority of people Everyone has their own battles to fight, some people go overboard and add multiple resolutions to that battle. Resolutions should be something that you actually want to do instead of just making one because you feel guilty, only then can it be truly pursued.

This is why most resolutions fail, the procrastination and the insincerity of the maker automatically encourages a culture of being lazy with your goals to the point that you lose sight of what you wanted to do until you see someone who actually managed to drop all those kilos or managed to quit a vice, which is when you feel guilty and go through the whole cycle of guilt tripping and making a resolution you do not intend to keep.

So sit down, relax, and make sacrifices, slowly, at your own pace. It's going to be alright.

This is going to be my last article this year. I hope you had fun reading, I'll come back and finish Last Woman Standing in 2018 but until then, have a blast at the New Year's party wherever you're going and I wish you all the best for keeping your resolutions. Who knows, I might just copy paste this article next year this time again, just to be sure.
"}]
