On a cold winter's night, the streets of Arkham are eerily empty with street lights burning bright.

CRASH !!!!!

(Harley and Joker smashes out of the window of the city bank)

(sounds of police sirens approaching near)

Both of them run.

Harley : here we go again….I've missed these little chaps, Puddin. I've never felt so much alive (says Harley laughing)

Joker : wanna have more fun, pumpkin?

Harley : somethin' tells me a whole lotta people are about to die (laughing maniacally)

SWOOSH!!!!!

A dark shadow flies over their heads and stands before them

Joker : And the cavalry has just arrived. Well too bad… cuz we got business to do, darling (says to batman laughing)

CRASH !!!! BOOM !!!! BANG!!!!

(They all have an intense fight and finally Harley and Joker gets cornered into an alley)

Joker : Honey, got any great ideas ?

Harley : Well, Don’t I always have the best ideas ?

(Harley smirks at him)

Batman : you have nowhere to go. Surrender yourself.

Harley : In your dreams, pussycat.

( Harley pulls out a bottle and sprays it towards batman. )

Harley : now, walk like a pussycat (she says to batman)

(Batman does exactly as she says)

Joker : wow!!! pumpkin, what was in that bottle?

Harley : That is a bottle of my perfume, "Hypnotic Poison" by Dior. Did you like it ?

Joker : Well, like it?!! I love it!! That doesn’t look like a normal one to me!

Harley : Ha ha ha !!!! It does not... This is a new perfume. I created it. It has the power to hypnotize anyone I spray with.

Joker : Well, good one, pumpkin. It's time for us to scoot now!!

Harley : (cunningly smiles at him) not so fast, Puddin.

(She sprays the perfume on joker and hypnotizes him to stay there)

Harley : (laughing so hard) well, that’s payback for how you treat me, you jackass.

Toodles !!!

Harley walks into the night with the loot they robbed from the bank, laughing her wits out.

Hypnotic Poison logo emerges, Harley saying, "I dare you to try it". (she winks)

She then disappears into the night.

The End.

It is a normal Saturday. You wake up, get ready and sit down to have brunch. Your mom serves you some rice and some dal. You pull out your phone from your pocket and scroll through Instagram. There you see someone eating lasagna at the back waters of Maldives, you envy them. You go up to your room and decide to study. Just one last check of Whatsapp and you see that your cousins have decided to bake cookies, you make a mental note to bake some later for yourself. Anyway, you put your phone down and study for a while and decide to take a break on Netflix and peek through Facebook as your show buffers. You notice your friends Gym selfie and productivity check list, you wonder when the last time you released some endorphins. Your favorite character dies in the show, you’re so heartbroken. Puppy videos and memes on Pinterest salvage your mood. This flow of ups and downs keeps lingering. Your boredom turns into activity, your contentment into resentment, your distress into hope. You are exposed to so much content that it is bound to influence you. These influences can be both positive and negative.

Well let us start with the bright side. Social media allows us to stay in touch with our friends and family, a commodity which was non-existent a decade ago. It also allows individuals to be part of communities and causes that they place confidence in. They get to be a part of like-minded groups from all over the world which unifies us globally. They get to promote important issues and state their opinions on them. Social media is a great outlet for art and creativity. Nowadays, there is a Picasso in every street and a Shakespeare in every house. All art forms have a platform for exhibition. Through social media one stumbles upon in-numerous workshops, webinars and podcasts which only help them perfect existing skills or imbibe new ones.

On the contrary, Social media has given birth to a new world’s disease known as FOMO. FOMO or ‘Fear of Missing Out’ is a new dilemma that we as a society face. Constant comparison of our lives with the theatrics of the one’s we see online leads to the feeling of us living an inadequate life. One in four people suffer from anxiety and depression. Anxiety is the feeling of magnified worry and depression the state of goal-lessness. This pressure of posting a perfect selfie and adhering to a certain lifestyle to be accepted causes agony, such pain that goes unnoticed because of its prevalent nature. Many individuals use social media as a fuel for approval and derive their self-worth from the likes and comments they receive. These false methods of validation are of course hazardous. How can one truly be happy if their self-value is left at the hands of their friends, acquaintances or anyone other than themselves really? Social media is also used as a camouflage, sad people portray as though they are happy. It is almost as though they pretend to feel something else as a coping mechanism for their true feelings. This will eventually either lead to a melt down or cause worse complications. Cyber-bullying is another menace that is becoming rampant as we make advancements in technology.

Some symptoms to watch out for, to keep ourselves in check; to identify if we are falling into the hell hole of Social media include-- if we spend more time on these platforms than with our real friends and family, If we constantly compare ourselves unfavorably with those on social media or experience cyber bullying. It is important for us to notice this. If we suddenly have no time for self-reflection or if we rely on likes for self love then we are target to the negative influence of social media. If we turn nocturnal and find it hard to sleep and observe increasing symptoms of anxiety or depression we must make changes and reach out to seek help.

Therefore, my conclusion is YES! Social media and mental health do have a very direct relation. It is a beautiful paradox that represents how we have brought far ones close and shoved the close ones far. One must keep in mind that Social media isn’t real. It’s a collection, a memoir of people’s happiest memories. It’s a fabricated representational view into someone’s life. You only see what they show you. It is as though you are a horse with blinkers, examining someone else’s existence. It’s best to use social media for connectivity and growth and even entertainment. Once you start to suffocate due to its drawbacks; breathe a little, take a break from it and do what is best for you. Don’t succumb to this ruthless cycle of comparison and self-loathing. Tell yourself—you matter, you don’t have to be the same as those you see, you are born an original. We are all intricately unique.
"}]

Staying away from social media can do be one of the best things you can do for your mental health

Yes, there is a huge correlation between social media and mental health.

Human beings are social creatures. We need the companionship of others to thrive in life, and the strength of our connections has a huge impact on our mental health and happiness. Being socially connected to others can ease stress, anxiety, and depression, boost self-worth, provide comfort and joy, prevent loneliness, and even add years to your life. On the flip side, lacking strong social connections can pose a significant risk to your mental and emotional health.

In today’s world, many of us rely on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, and Instagram to find and connect with each other. While each has its benefits, it’s important to remember that social media can never be a replacement for real-world human connection. It requires in-person contact with others to trigger the hormones that alleviate stress and make you feel happier, healthier, and more positive. Ironically for a technology that’s designed to bring people closer together, spending too much time engaging with social media can actually make you feel more lonely and isolated—and exacerbate mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.

If you’re spending an excessive amount of time on social media and feelings of sadness, dissatisfaction, frustration, or loneliness are impacting your life, it may be time to re-examine your online habits and find a healthier balance.

Especially in the year 2020 due to COVID-19, everyone has stuck at home and therefore people who are using social media have increased. As most people don't have work as they are at home, people are more addicted to accessing social media more than the pre-COVID situation, which is resulting in a mentally conditioned environment and a nonproductive way of living.

Signs that social media is impacting on mental health
Everyone is different and there is no specific amount of time spent on social media, or the frequency you check for updates or the number of posts you make that indicates your use is becoming unhealthy. Rather, it has to do with the impact time spent on social media has on your mood and other aspects of your life, along with your motivations for using it.

For example, your social media use may be problematic if it causes you to neglect face-to-face relationships, distracts you from work or school, or leaves you feeling envious, angry, or depressed. Similarly, if you’re motivated to use social media just because you’re bored or lonely, or want to post something to make others jealous or upset, it may be time to reassess your social media habits.

Indicators that social media could also be adversely affecting your psychological state include:

Spending more time on social media than with real-world friends. Using social media has become a substitute for tons of your offline social interaction. Even if you’re out with friends, you still feel the need to constantly check social media, often driven by feelings that others may be having more fun than you.

Comparing yourself unfavorably with others on social media. You have low self-esteem or negative body image. You may even have patterns of disordered eating.

Experiencing cyberbullying. Or you worry that you have no control over the things people post about you.

Being distracted at school or work. You feel pressure to post regular content about yourself, get comments or likes on your posts, or respond quickly and enthusiastically to friends’ posts.

Having no time for self-reflection. Every spare moment is filled by engaging with social media, leaving you little or no time for reflecting on who you are, what you think, or why you act the way that you do—the things that allow you to grow as a person.

Engaging in risky behavior in order to gain likes, shares, or positive reactions on social media. You play dangerous pranks, post embarrassing material, cyberbully others, or access your phone while driving or in other unsafe situations.

Suffering from sleep problems. Do you check social media last thing at night, first thing in the morning, or even when you wake up in the night? The light from phones and other devices can disrupt your sleep, which in turn can have a serious impact on your mental health.

Worsening symptoms of anxiety or depression. Rather than helping to alleviate negative feelings and boost your mood, you feel more anxious, depressed, or lonely after using social media.

Steps for modifying social media use to improve mental health

Step 1: Reduce time online

Step 2: Change your focus

Step 3: Spend more time with offline friends

Step 4: Express gratitude

I conclude social media usage has dangerous effects for the younger generation because problems related to mental health which get developed during a young period can act as an epidemic for any individual throughout life.

The most critical question one should ask oneself is whether there is a tradeoff between the health and economic risks, or could we sensibly balance them. The answer is that there is no ‘health versus economics’ dichotomy. With the number of cases reaching 2lakhs and thousands of people dead and infected, Covid is posing a grace threat to both the economy as wealth as to the health sector. With the continuous increase in the number of cases and the closed businesses may give an economic shock that could be severe compared to the financial crisis in 2008 or even to the Great Depression in the 1930s.

txt

The covid-19 pandemic has resulted in nation-wide lockdowns across the globe and India has also borne the brunt of it, with a lockdown that started in March and is still going on. This, in turn, has affected the economy drastically and there have been mass lay-offs in both big companies and startups. This is also a scenario where the chances of a job-offer-letter being honoured are also low. With a scenario like this, it is imperative for students to upskill themselves with recession-proof skills and also with skills that put you ahead of the competition.

Upskilling yourself has two benefits, one is that it will broaden your horizon, putting a wide range of jobs in your league as you'd have the necessary skills to qualify for the position and the other is that it will also demonstrate your intention and your work-ethic. It will show the recruiter that you are a self-starter who has picked up certain skills without anyone prodding you to, the way a college or a school would. An easy way to upskill yourself now would be to take online courses on subjects like AI/ML, Content Writing, Graphic Design, Social Media Marketing, Digital Marketing, Big Data, etc; subjects that will be utilised in the future and subjects that will stay relevant always.

Another factor that you need to do at this point in life is that find a mentor, someone in the industry of your choice, who has been actively involved in that industry for quite some time now and knows the ups and downs, pros and cons of working in that industry. Through this, you'll not only find out more about the industry but you will also get connected to someone who can refer you for a job or even offer you a job, if necessary.

An easy way for you to do all this, is to become a stuMagz VIP member, wherein you will have access to online courses on a wide range of subjects, for a discounted price, you will have access to e-Books on developing essential skills like speaking skills, writing skills, etc; in addition to mentor-connect, a unique program where you will have a one-on-one session with a mentor from an industry of your choice!

The automobile industry, one of the evergreen domains of the country that has started its journey way back in the 20th century is heading towards a major crisis this fall. The Industry employees 37million people and is touted to be an important part of India’s GDP. The domain is presently in dire straits with over two lakh employees (contractual /temporary) fired.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED?

So, it all started in July 2019 with the reports of many automobile companies showing plummeting sales and projecting towards a major downturn in the near future.

THE INSIDE FACTS AND FIGURES

About 3 lakh auto sector jobs have been lost and a whopping 30% less sales report in the July month indicate the impact at which the crisis hit the sector.

TAXATION – GST EFFECT

GST had its impact on the crisis with 28% slab taxation on the sector and consumers finding it difficult to pay the hefty prices.

OVERPRODUCTION & THE BS VI PHENOMENON!

The old vehicle stock are piling up and stock levels have increased to a humongous level and with demand decreasing from a consumer perspective the stock levels pose a huge revenue loss especially with BS VI ( Bharat Stage 6 ) in the pipeline. Bharat Stage VI is a leap frog in pollution norms and regulation policy that check real time emission and reduce unwanted carbon emissions by a whopping 30%. April 1st 2020 being the government deadline for BSVI introduction in the commercial market, making the potential customers getting inclined towards an eco-friendlier vehicle with better lifetime.

OIL PRICE HIKE!

In the Q4 There was this oil price hike to huge inventory of oil and less demand. With surging petrol and diesel prices, targeted customers are preferring to avail public transport and with metro, cabs and buses giving away stress free ride in addition to the fact that the consumer can work while travelling.

CASH LIQUIDITY

Banks are cash trapped and since scams ( Vijay Malaya and Nirav Modi ) being omnipresent in the present day society , social banks are reluctant to provide liquid money for consumers and with demonetization effect still looming on the public, an outright cashless payment is tasking for a middle- class consumer to pay in monthly EMI’s requiring exorbitant interest rates.

GO ELECTRIC!

The new trending mantra across the globe is to cut pollution and carbon emissions, As the quote says “Prevention is better than cure”. To completely eliminate the big danger of human risk, electric vehicles are the next big thing with government budget bolstering it, People have become skeptical in changing their old vehicle and economic slowdown aids to that decision.

THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC AND LOOMING RECESSION

The pandemic has been omnipresent and has impacted billions of lives across the globe. The Auto Industry has been one of the most affected industries with the oil price per barrel trading below zero for a few days indicating negative consumer confidence. In addition to this the endless lockdown have halted the supply chains. The ban of “made in china products” post coronavirus where 80% of manufacturing components are obtained from is a serious issue to be dealt with , This could also help made in india plants and set ups to reduce costs in the long run. The bigger core issue being the impending recession that has struck most parts of the globe reducing demand and shocking zero sales for premium auto makers has been a huge impact.

POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS:

• A GST Cut for a limited time could encourage consumers to buy automobile or slightly increase the dip in sales and thus revenue.

• Slight reduction in complementary goods like petrol and diesel could do a world of good to the automobile sector.

• Halting R&D for the time being could be a sensible move.

• Restructuring the organization could be a way forward post coronavirus scenario.

• Employee safety and motivation is a must in this crisis times especially when most companies are preferring huge layoffs its high time companies retain employees may give a small pay cuts to compensate for losses.

• Strategic decisions to shut down loss making plants and shift employees to profitable plants.

• Made in India could be the way forward to gain profits in the long run

• With the lock-down lifted from June 1 2020 in major parts of India, this could see a optimistic time to regain sales and re align the goals of the company

Every industry has to face this declining phase where the industry gets an opportunity to think about the inherent flaws in the system and work on it. An evergreen Industry like automobile will surely bounce back and prove its charm, what it requires now is some patience, vigilance. The Pandemic might not last forever but it is about adapting to the post coronavirus consumer behaviour that will differentiate one company to the other. After all, cars and bikes are a universal interest with surreal innovations in closing the gap for a driver-less cars the day is not far when this evergreen industry comes back to its forte of luring customers!
"}]

India's population is 1.38 billion as in 2019 . Total number of vulnerable workers in India's informal sector are 308.3 million . Of these , 150.6 million are regular wage earners . The rampant corona has made the country to lock down everything . Even though it reduced the spread of virus , it also made the country's GDP growth to slow down to 1.9% this year , from 4.5% last year according to IMF . Unemployment shoots to 26% with 14 crore people losing their jobs . The whole country is at a loss .

If I had opportunity to decide the do's and don'ts for a country like ours to combat the virus , the foremost thing was to spread awareness to the people in every nook and corner of the nation . A tremendous effort would be put up to spread the news about symptoms , diagnosis and rules to stop the spread of infection through social media , pamphlet and direct information through leaders in every district of every state .

This would take approximately not more than a month . Until that time , I would ask for a complete lock down in the country except for agriculture and related works to it . After the completion of spreading awareness , a plan will be made for the opening of various shops all over the country . An alternate method will be followed where only a few outlets are allowed in a week basis .

In order to allow the public transport , a method of antimicrobial sanitization will be brought up where the disinfection is visible for around a period of 3 months . This would at least keep up the state's economy through transport department .

Public safety will always remain the main agenda . People MUST follow the safety precautions , if they are not sticking to the rules , they have to face enormous fines . At least , this would make people abide by the rules .

In the department of education , only higher secondary children would be allowed to study in schools but maintaining the distance between themselves . Infants and aged people would strictly be confined to their houses . All the public places would run with the half the number of workers in shifts and the count of customers will also be limited . All the essentials works would be in work mode but interstate transport will be strictly prohibited .

This infection spreads even though everything is locked down . Hence , its better to keep up the economical status ( if not increasing ) of the country rather than making people loose their daily basis of work leading to hunger deaths .
"}]
A virus, a dangerous one at that, has put all of our lives on a temporary standstill. But thinking about it makes me wonder if it is really so dangerous. Because a study (source unknown) says that more number of people die every year due to influenza, alcohol consumption, accidents and suicides each. So what’s the big deal about this one? Just a little more time and we’ll get used to living with the virus amongst us; all we need is stronger immunity towards it. Or maybe it isn’t so simple, you might say it obviously isn’t so simple or the government and others aren’t crazy to shut the world down. True that too.

txt

So let’s drop this topic because it’s scary and talk about something which all of us must’ve felt at one point or another during this lockdown. What would I have done if I was the leader of a country like ours, if I was responsible for decision-making? Would our country be running in the same way as it is today? That is for you to wonder, meanwhile let me do the honours and pour out my thoughts in front of you and let’s see if we think alike. So shall we start?

txt

Very well then, because running a country is not an easy job and depends on numerous factors, few of which we are all undeniably unaware of, let’s focus on a very common topic which is education and see where we land. Online classes, huh? Let’s see the pros and cons of it. Have you ever felt that if there was no attendance system, you would’ve been a freaking genius? Studying and researching all day, doing mad like stuff? Well we have it now, all we students have is time in our hands but it isn’t so simple. There’s always that one reason (rather excuse) that stops us, and we blame it (not complaining, even I do that). We are not used to this and maybe if I was a leader of the nation, I would’ve done something about it. Firstly, the education wouldn’t have been like this, teachers would’ve been friendly, the kind of people who are approachable in case of doubts, that’s how we get better, right? By asking questions. I would call for an emergency meeting with the education minister and tell him to find optimized solutions which could get the best results out of students during this lockdown. The faculty never gets time to talk about working of real things because he/she has the pressure of finishing the syllabus every semester. Now that we’ve got time, the education department should be taking advantage of it by conducting sessions and letting students explore guiding them on the path. Like I mentioned earlier, it could’ve been really easy if there wasn’t so much gap between the students and faculty. We should be eager and curious to go to them and enlighten ourselves but not get second thoughts and belittle them thinking they however wouldn’t know the answer. Why not give it a try? If one lecturer fails, the other would pass. At least one would, in a bunch of 5 professors for the same subject. This lockdown, I would just want to provide training to the faculty rather than getting too much and expecting loads from students. 'Should reservation be removed?' 'Should reservation be kept?' 'Is reservation good?' 'Is it bad?' This is one debate that has survived the test of time. It still is a debate as heated as it was back in 1992, when it was implemented. But I am not here to debate on it. I am not here to tell you how reservation is good or bad. That is for each individual one of you to decide. I am just going to tell you how reservation has impacted individuals, sections of societies, and the classes that it claims to be helping. Also what alternative schemes of reservation could've been provided.

Now, reservation was brought by the V.P Singh led National Front Government in 1990. And after a stay order from the supreme court, it was finally implemented in 1992. Now, this was the biggest vote card that could've been played back then. But not every vote card works, why did this one work? This is because of the existing reservation back then. Surprised right? Let me explain. This was the reservation that the upper castes in most places around the country had implemented. Someone from the lower class cannot do a certain job, or should do a certain job only. They should not sit where generally the upper castes sit. They cannot visit temples when people from upper castes do, and many other such unsaid but very much implemented reservations. The lower classes weren't just neglected, but their individual existence in itself was suppressed. A person from the lower class would be judged not for what he can do, but what he is supposed to do, belonging from a certain class. And with this reservation scheme, these people got a hope to show that they existed, they mattered, and they could be present in positions that mattered. This also encouraged their parents who would earlier make their children drop out of schools to actually make them study, as they saw a possibility to make them reach a good position. Now not all of them would've reached good positions, in different sectors, but most of them would've got educated, about their rights, about their potential, about the choices they had.

But there cannot be a coin with only one face. While reservation did help the lower class move forward, it created other problems, and these problems have been coming up till now. Reservation developed a stigma in the hearts (against the lower class people) of even those upper class people, who earlier treated them with respect. Because they could see how the field was now skewed against them in terms of opportunities, restrictions etc. Because of this, people from the lower class who reached respectable positions never got the respect they deserved, they were rather disrespected with comments like 'are ye to quota waala hai, aata kuchh nhi, aise hi pahuch gya hai'. But it was not his fault that he got reservation. Anyone in his place presented with the same opportunity would've done the same. The reservation also greatly increased the scrutiny against the people of lower class present in responsible positions. Almost every mistake they made was blamed on how they got in through reservation, and so they don't know anything. Recently, a surgeon lost his patient in a surgery. It was a surgical mistake. Now this mistake could've been made by anyone, but since the surgeon belonged to lower class, news was made as to how he was not qualified enough, and how he did not even know the correct procedures, etc. It is however, sad to say that in some cases, this was indeed true. Very recently, IIT roorkee expelled 73 students from the college because of poor performance. Out of these, 69 students were found to belong from reserved category. It is clear that while they got in the institute because of the reservation they got, they could not cope up with the academic pressure. Now who should be blamed for it? The students? The institute? Or the reservation system? I leave it for you to decide. And this is just one incident, there are numerous others where people from lower class in positions of responsibility were found to be incapable of performing their duties efficiently. So is reservation bad? Or is the way it is implemented? Can there be a better implementation of reservation, which not only benefits the lower class but also keeps the merit competition alive?

What if instead of providing reservation to the lower class, the government gave monetary help to all the people of every class who are not able to afford the education of their children, and this monetary help should not only be provided for school or college education, instead it should be provided for whatever training the student wants to go through, for example, let's say a student wants to go in the field of music, he should be provided with help to take admission in a proper musical training institute, and reservation of all other type should be removed. This will help the students to move forward in the field they actually want to rather than the field in which they can. Now some people would say that this would take a lot of money and would not be feasible. This is true, but it should be understood that this investment will have to be made only for 1 generation, because then the already educated people would be able to afford their children's education, and even if some can't, the number will keep decreasing. Could this be a better form of reservation? Maybe. Maybe not.

But given the present scenario, and how every party is trying to leverage the reservation topic to gain votes, instead of trying to actually help people, it can be said that the present reservation system is still going to last a long time. We might see some amends, but eradication of this reservation system is not going to happen anytime soon.
"}]
