Most of us won't look twice at a manual scavenger, due to various reasons, social, economical, discriminatory, and even dehumanising. You just feel you're lucky that you don't have to do the job that they have to do, and frankly you should indeed be glad for that, the workers who depend on manual scavenging are often uneducated and support their family through various small jobs, including lowering themselves into sewers and putting their health at risk every now and then, just so our plumbing system works. In exchange, they make less than Rs. 500 per descent, they get insulted for doing the job nobody else would do, their children are discriminated against, and there are a few people that want to deny them their reservation rights, but that is a story for another time.

Officially, Manual scavenging is illegal, but sadly there have been very little provisions to actually stop the need of manual scavenging to exist in the first place, and the scavengers themselves, with no other craft to turn to since nobody would hire them and the fact that they lack education, often find themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place, between a choice of going without a job or going back into scavenging. A choice I sincerely hope none of you reading this will ever have to face in your lives.

It is heart warming, then, to see that the Telangana government helmed by K. Chandrashekar Rao has made a step in the right direction by commissioning 70 mini sewer jetting machines to end the dehumanising practice in Hyderabad. The machines, which are currently already being put to use by the HMWSSB were dedicated to the organisation by Telangana's IT minister K.T. Rama Rao, or KTR as his many adoring fans know him.

It warms our hearts to see the TRS's commitment to easing the pain of the margianlised in the state, and we hope to see more initiatives by the Government of Telangana to support those who often seem to fall through the cracks of society.

Every Classroom hold innumerable memories for us. We saw all kinds of people , but the most intresting ones of the lot were the back benchers and most silence people's are first benchers . Everyone would wonder what these last bench students s did, and why the teachers were always suspicious of them. Being a back bencher,I think it’s because they couldn’t handle the craziness of the back benchers and they cannot answer the questions raised by the backbenchers.

Some crazy things that are done by the back benchers :

Starting with how they get up and get ready , they get up just 10 minutes before our classes start running . At last they come to the class the reason explained by back benchers are very funny they use silly reasons simply 'bike puncture , bus late '. The reasons really make us laugh!

You instinctively went to the back, even if the front seats were empty, sometimes they are forced to sit in the first benches.

Sitting in backbenches and secretly listen to music at the back.

Backbenchers almost always work on another subject’s homework during a class timings like assignments.

Only back benchers have the guts to fall asleep because the teacher couldn’t see you.

Only back benchers had the liberty to eat when classes are going on.

All the teachers collectively thought that only backbenchers a were the naughty ones and have a good character.

Comming to cheating in examination it was really a good adventure in opening slips and writing the answers .

When a question is raised to the back benchers the answers given by them are really very comic that are not even related to the topic going on .

They don't even have any idea about the syllabus and subjects of that semester .

Life of a first bencher:

Starting from how they get up early in the morning and attend classes. They get up early in the Morning and they get hurry and tensed Weather they may miss a few minutes of class and they that may result in the decrease of the percentage .

More over every class has a small group of the people who fight for reserving their seats in the first bench of the classroom.

There is no bond in between those small group of people . They really fear and suffer for every simple problem. They get jealous very easily if other people answer a question raised in the middle of class . Internally they die if there friends get more marks .

This jealously separates them from enjoying everything . They don't even spend time with friends in talking about their life style . They don't reveal their plans that how they study and how they move forward in the life.

When teachers show more concentration on other people they suffer a lot . Simply they are leading a very hard life . They don't know what they are missing in name of enjoyment .

These people never bunk classes .even needed they attend special classes even .

They may get percentages but they don't how the society is growing .

Great lines said by Dr.APJ Abdul Kaplan-The best brains of the nation may be found on the last benches of the classroom.”

They may know how to solve a problem in exam but they don't know how to solve a problem in the real life .local fights everything's bond between back benchers very strong .

Simply a back bencher life is completely different from the first bencher.no one can enjoy their life as a backbencher .

Thank you

"It was after watching Andala Rakshasi, that I decided to make films. The unconventional screenplay of that movie is what inspired me to start my journey is a film-maker," says Dileep Vaddadi, a 25 year old MBBS graduate, who directed the now trending short film Miduna. The short film, produced independently by Dileep, has an entire cast of students from Vizag and is a simple love story set in Vizag, with an unconventional screenplay. In just three days of its release on YouTube, the short film has garnered almost 55000 views.

"The story is simple, it's a typical tollywood love triangle but the music and the screenplay are what add to the appeal of the film," says Dileep, who also made two other short films earlier this year, adding, "I worship Hanu Raghavapudi, the director of Andala Rakshasi and Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha, for his unique screenplay and that reflected a lot in this film."

The movie, is about a girl named Miduna (played by Harika Varma) and a love triangle between two guys (played by Shiva and Chaitu). "I drew inspiration from various experiences I've had in life and seen in my life to make this short film," explains Dileep (the one in the yellow shirt in the picture below), who is now planning on pursuing his post graduation in surgery.

Costing over Rs. 30000 to make, this film was shot in and around Vizag, with students from Gayathri Vidya Parishad and SIITAM playing various roles in this. "Everyone involved is a student, except the sound engineer. In fact, I also learnt aspects of cinematography this time as I did a little of it in addition to acting and composing music for this," says Shiva, who had previously acted in another unreleased short film.

And for Chaitu and Harika, both third year BBA students from GVP and SIITAM respectively, this was a unique experience as this gave them both an opportunity to showcase their acting skills. Having worked in two other short films before this, Chaitu, who plays the lead, says "This film reaffirmed my interest in pursuing acting as I had to take up BBA because my family didn't want me to join acting school. After my BBA is done, I will definitely take up acting in a proper way."

Harika Varma collaborated with Dileep earlier and says, "I was never into acting but because I was always into compering at events in college, my friends always used to tell me to try acting. That's how I ended up acting in Dileep's earlier production, Flashback. I had a great time with him and now I collaborated with him again for this."

Okay, so EAMCET is done and all students who got through the exam are now whiling away the last proper vacation of their lives and at the same time, are concerned about what college they will get into. We solved that problem by www.eamcetrank.com and now, we give students this cheat-sheet of what to watch out for while joining an engineering college.

1. Labs and other Infrastructure:

While every college has a lab, the quality of infrastructure in the labs matters a lot, whether the equipment is updated or not, whether there are proper safety systems in place or not. So do visit the college first and check out the labs to see for yourself what kind of quality exists there.

txt
rich_1496747146521

2. Library

It's a popular myth that engineering students don't usually go to libraries but trust us, college library can become your best friend in times of need. Most colleges have extensive collection of technical and non-technical books and it is worth a visit to the college library before joining to know what kind of books they have on hand; as most of the time, some of the books available in the college library aren't usually available elsewhere.

txt
rich_1496747169215

3. Alumni

The reason students prefer some colleges over the others is because of the alumni, who went on to achieve greater heights in life based on the skills they acquired in college. Checking out alumni from the college website, contacting them and interacting with them about the benefits of that college actually helps.

txt
rich_1496747191164

4. Placement opportunities

Colleges go to great lengths to ensure their students get placed but some colleges specifically partner up with giants like google, Microsoft, etc, to provide the best opportunities to students right after college. So checking the college website for previous placement records and placement partners is a good option and is something every student should do before joining the college.

txt
rich_1496747228932

5. Sports, Activities and Clubs:

College is a place for overall growth of an individual and a place for all round personality development. So check out what kind of clubs and activities the college has. Regardless of whether the activities are technical or non-technical, being involved in them promotes problem-solving and leadership skills at the very least. So whether it is a drama club or a literary club or something technical like IEEE, check them out beforehand and join them once you join that college.

txt
rich_1496747264578

Of all the books I've read, I've come across a few rare characters that seem to imprint their personalities onto my very soul and brain. They amaze me with their depth, insight and sheer force of personality and make me want to be as much like them as I can. Here's a list of the female characters I respect and adore.

txt
rich_1496731785488

1. Anne of Green Gables

My first encounter with this feisty little red head led me to believe that she was your typical bubbly, likable young protagonist. However, as the book progressed, the astonishing level of character development and her maturing into a smart, strong-willed, ambitious young woman gave me such joy! Anne goes from a hopeful, optimistic orphan girl with the most vivid imagination you've ever seen to a young, mature woman who works hard to achieve her dream of going to college without depending on the finances of her foster parents. This classic had made Anne (with an 'e' of course) the hero many, many young girls all over the world.

2. Pippi Longstocking

Another classic, this book is beloved by children everywhere for it lovable protagonist Pippi Longstocking. Pippi is as unconventional a little girl as you can get. She is the daughter of an ex-sailor, now tribal chieftain and lives alone far from him with her trusty pets, a horse and a monkey. She is freckled, uneducated, insanely rich (her dad sends her suitcases full of gold coins) and freakishly strong- strong enough to lift her horse one-handed. Pippi uses all the resources at her disposal to make children happy by buying them toys and musical instruments, teach mean and abusive adults a lesson by using her strength to give them a taste of her own medicine and through all this, her love for her two best friends, Tommy and Annika, shines through. You can't find a better role model to teach children to be kind, independent, strong and loving.

3. Minerva McGonagall

While her character in the well-known Harry Potter series is quite commendable in itself, I'm referring to her character in the most famous Harry Potter fanfic- Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality. Her strict disciplinarian air is given so much more depth and she ends up being one of the few characters that manages to break out of the script and be self-aware. McGonagall is one of the few people that the Harry in that story cares about and has a handle on him. Her character evolution goes from being a stereotypical tough deputy-headmistress who the students are afraid of to a logical, understanding, self-aware character who only gets more respect for being so. It shows me that people, no matter how rigid, still have the capacity to change if they wish to.

4. Leslie Burke

The Bridge to Terabithia is an iconic movie, but few know that it was a book first. In both, Leslie Burke stands out as a striking young girl with a mind of her own. She opens up new worlds to the protagonist, Jesse, a boy from a family with limited means. She shows him how words and imagination can make your life so much more colourful and teaches him many more lessons besides. One particular exchange stands out in my mind. After Leslie beats Jesse in a race, he comments on how fast Leslie is for a girl. Leslie then asks Jesse why he can't just say the she was fast, which she was. Why did people have to tack on meaningless qualifiers to their statements? She's someone worth watching out for.

Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, spoke about being doubly committed to the Paris Climate Agreement a day after the President of the United States Donald Trump pulled out of it, on June 1st. As students today will be the citizens of tomorrow and inherit the Earth from those who make the decisions today, it is important for us to know what the Paris Climate Agreement is and why it is important for the future of our planet.

What is The Paris Climate Agreement?

The goal of the United States Framework Convention on Climate Change's Agreement is to limit global temperature rise to two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by 2100, failing which, we will draw dire consequences on the planet, like failing crop, flooding, coastal cities slowly sinking underwater as water levels continue to rise, biodiversity taking an irreversible hit, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The current rate of temperature rise is 0.99-degree Celcius and will continue to rise rapidly if we continue on the path of emitting greenhouse gases and polluting the planet in the same way we do now. Considering the current state of the world, and the crucial need to bring a change in policy in not just one country, but all of them to save the planet we all live on, the United States Framework Convention on Climate Change worked for many years and finally came up with an agreement that was agreeable to almost all the countries in the world, and the countries came through and signed the agreement in Paris, which is why it came to be known as The Paris Climate Agreement.

It was a historic day as almost all countries in the world except Syria and Nicaragua signed the agreement, the former embroiled in an extremely complicated civil war, and the latter because they believe the agreement is not doing enough and they want it to be stricter than it is.

What Do Signee Countries Have To Do?

The Paris Climate Agreement lets countries come up with their own plans to combat climate change and therefore make policies according to the same in their countries, which perhaps was one of the defining features of the deal that made all the countries come through. The deal is also not legally binding, legally there is nothing that other countries can do to force compliance, but there is a system in place to shame the countries into coming through with a plan to combat climate change.

Since the Agreement allows for flexible planning on combating Climate Change, it allows countries to come up with unique plans, for instance, India has been pushing for Solar power for a while now, and there are various colleges across the country that are slowly moving to renewable and greener energy. The movement is there, and the world is changing, slowly but surely.

Why Did Donald Trump Pull Out Of The Agreement?

I'll not mince words here, Donald Trump is not exactly a smart man. This is a man that believes climate change is a Chinese conspiracy, and there have been one too many Republican representatives that do not believe in climate change. While the tragedy of such a man becoming the President of the United States is a story for another website, it is now unavoidable to ignore this man's idiocy when the planet's future is at stake.

Donald Trump pulled out of The Paris Climate Agreement citing the Green Climate Fund as an excuse. The Green Climate Fund was established in response to developing nations raising a concern about having to put in more financial aid than they are capable of for the Paris Climate Agreement, and considering the West grew rich due to many years of loot and plunder of most of today's developing nations, the Green Climate Fund was established within the framework of the UNFCCC to assist developing countries in adaptation and mitigation practices to counter climate change. Trump predecessor, President Barack Obama, had promised $3 billion, of which $1 billion was already delivered.

Considering the amount of money that needed to be sent, Trump believed that the United States was being ripped off while completely ignoring the fact that the United States is one of the largest Greenhouse Gas emitters in the world and pulled out of the agreement, saying he was still open to negotiation and would join once again should the US have 'fairer' obligations. The leaders of the EU have simply refused to entertain this, saying the Agreement was not renegotiable.

What Is India's Role?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised to work towards the fulfilment of the Paris Climate Agreement, saying India was doubly committed to shifting our energy production to a more greener alternative, and so far it does seem true. India has been moving forward with a lot of solar projects, and we are also fast-tracking nuclear power plants with the help of Russia.

When it comes to us Indians however, our government might shift our energy production but unless we get some semblance of civic responsibility, we will continue polluting our surroundings. The time to save the planet was yesterday, so get on it! For yourself, for your family and for the entire world.
"}]
