I found the piece “The Humanities Make Us Human” to be very intriguing. The author, Edith Stockton, explores a variety of topics related to the lack of interest in the humanities among youth. She writes, “Why have art and literature and philosophical questions that could change and shape our cultural lives lost meaning to us? Created out of expression, rebellion, and pioneering, classical works are timeless – or so we thought.” This statement is eye-opening and sad at the same time. Classic works of literature have powerful backgrounds. They were created, as Edith says, out of expression and rebellion. They can change our lives, and yet we toss them aside in favor of less serious, less challenging works of art.

The fact that today’s youth has little understanding of classical art or literature makes me question what society is being molded into.

Rather than reading Shakespeare, teens read fashion magazines and pine over their favorite celebs. English teachers giving their students assignments to read classic texts hear groans and exasperated sighs. Furthermore, “artistry” has been dragged down to a level of showering pictures with colorful filters for “likes” on social media. What does this say about us? These things don’t make us human. The humanities make us human, and our grasp on them is weakening with every moment. Edith’s piece opened my eyes to how the definition of “classics” is changing along with our society. We can’t let go of what makes us human.

The above part is an Edith's view of humanity around the world...Through exploration of the humanities we learn how to think creatively and critically, to reason, and to ask questions. Because these skills allow us to gain new insights into everything from poetry and paintings to business models and politics, humanistic subjects have been at the heart of a liberal arts education since the ancient Greeks first used them to educate their citizens.

Research into the human experience adds to our knowledge about our world. Through the work of humanities scholars, we learn about the values of different cultures, about what goes into making a work of art, about how history is made. Their efforts preserve the great accomplishments of the past, help us understand the world we live in, and give us tools to imagine the future.

Today, humanistic knowledge continues to provide the ideal foundation for exploring and understanding the human experience. Investigating a branch of philosophy might get you thinking about ethical questions. Learning another language might help you gain an appreciation for the similarities in different cultures. Contemplating a sculpture might make you think about how an artist's life affected her creative decisions. Reading a book from another region of the world, might help you think about the meaning of democracy. Listening to a history course might help you better understand the past, while at the same time offer you a clearer picture of the future.

"TO DENY PEOPLE THEIR HUMAN RIGHTS IS TO CHALLENGE THEIR VERY HUMANITY"

You must not lose faith in humanity...Humanity is an ocean;if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not becomes dirty...

Every now and then, I give myself mental exercises, just to stretch my brain out a little before the real work begins. Sometimes I try to make verb-noun associations, sometimes I try to calculate the force with which I need to throw my wrapper (neglecting air resistance, of course) to let it fall into the bin. So this one time, I tried to think without using words. Every thought, every shadow of a thought I have must be acknowledge and sent away before it becomes words.

When I was a kid, I lived at this place that had a steep slope that led down to the main street which led outside. I used to stand at the top and begin running down the slope as fast as I could. I use to go so fast my legs couldn't keep up with my speed and I could feel myself losing control and falling, falling, as my legs fell behind the rest of my body. That's how it felt; trying to think without words. My thoughts had to go faster than the words popped up, so I could barely think what I was thinking, barely begin to taste it before I had to send it away for the next one. And the next one had words coming behind it too, so I could only feel the shadow of the thought before I pushed that away too. Trying to think without words was like falling; I was tripping over my own self.

The whole exercise made me realise how important words were to my brain. I couldn't form a single coherent idea without using them; they were all just half-formed impressions. That progress in a micro-society sped along much faster after that culture invented language is known, but perhaps more important to the progress of humans as a whole was the creating of written language. The idea that thoughts, ideas, event, information could be stored on a physical object, transported and retrieved from that physical object was insane! It changed how the whole world interacted and suddenly made the world so much bigger than only that part you could physically travel to.

Realising all this made me have immense respect for words, both spoken and written, of whatever language they may be.
"}]
When the environment you live in is lively, anyone would feel lively to stay, that could be the work space, living area or the college environment. But when it comes to student all it matters is their college atmosphere, its infrastructure, cafeteria, varied clubs and the scenic structure giving the pleasant feel of nature, adding more to the domain. Summer begins and so does the vacation. Time to get back to home and sit around the whole day, well, more or less. That surely makes one watch the television and if you're in a joint family, there'll hardly be any moment you would go without its noise. And then you'll be watching over your younger ones 'cause the elderlies are too busy in their daily chores. The best way out for you is to switch the channel to some random cartoon stuff and believe me, the kids will watch it with utmost sincerity.

Such is the charm of cartoon series. Doesn't really matter what your age is, you can't really ignore what you watch. If you're sensible, you'll be pointing out the flaws that the producers of the show don't even bother to consider. If you're amongst those who've not created the boxes in your head, you'll be mesmerized with the characters and their actions. And yes, the sense of being a 90s' kid drives you on such occasions. So it's perfectly fine for a student like me to get into such shows. (Well, that's how I'd like to think of it.)

Here I present you the shows that get the child out of you and no matter what, you can simply not resist yourself from reliving your childhood with them.

1) Shinchan

A five-year-old boy (since the inception of the show) pulls out pranks and mischiefs all the time and irritates the whole bunch of people around him. Such a basic storyline, yet a plentiful of humor that makes you carve for it every single time it comes on your TV screen. The characters are a set of typical teachers, parents, and friends, and the pet dog Shiru is the icing on the cake. "Ho Hoye!", there you have your daily dose of laughter.

2) Ninja Hattori

An ideal Ninja, who hails from the Ega village, comes down to the town and eventually, becomes the guardian angel of an otherwise innocent kid. And as always, Hattori comes up with his 'Ninja Technique' for every problem he and his friend encounter and rescues them. At the end, more often than not, you get to learn a valuable moral lesson that he teaches you with his actions and deeds.

3) Kochikame

A highly enthusiastic and self-motivated policeman, honestly, that's a way too sober way to define him. Ryotsu, who's always ready to try his hand in the new fads coming along in the market and pulling it out all in the innovations, till the point they turn sour and the things end up getting out of his control. Not everytime things turn out the way it's been thought, that's what makes it interesting anyway.

4) Doraemon

Okay. For me, the sole reason to watch this is its title sequence and Nobita's cry ("Do..Rae..Mon..!"). But yes, it does gives you hopes about how the life could be in the 22nd century (not really). Doraemon, who's come from future to help Nobita in his present, tries to make Nobita's life easy with his futuristic gadgets and all his efforts go in vain, credits to Nobita's lines of misfortune.

5) Hagemaru

I'm not sure how many of you have watched this amazingly indigenous show but trust me, this is the best amongst the lot. What makes it so special is the 'Indian-ness' of the show. The accent, the build-up, and the actions. Just go to any other neighborhood and you'll find their own living Hagemaru (figuratively, obviously). Such relatable sequence of events and timed humor makes you want for more and more of it.
This is my best ones that drive me to my childhood everytime I come across them. And yes, I might have missed some more of such shows that creates the sense of nostalgia in us 90's kids. So comment down below what are your top 5 picks from the 'Golden-Era' of cartoons and spread the smile.
"}]
Alright, let's get this out in the open; college students bunk classes. However, we bunk classes only in the pursuit of ideals like gaining worldly knowledge and having insane amounts of fun. We've been doing it since ancient times when trees used to shake in movies when the lead actors went behind them and we probably still will be doing it in the future when people go behind holographic trees to metaphorically shake them. Over time, the nature of the bunks has changed and we take a look at the things college students used to do before and what they do now.

The trendy thing to do back then was to visit restaurants and dhabas and hang out with your friends, laughing and talking. Now the emphasis is all on doing, so food in preferred along with an activity. Sports bars are pretty popular in this respect, as they offer good food along with sports like pool, table tennis and air hockey that can be played without much physical strain.

Nothing used to beat the excitement of watching a movie's first show on the first day and classes didn't stop us from having that. Mass bunks were common before every major star's movie release and the professors were resigned to it happening. While we still do bunk classes to watch movies, it's a little different now. We prefer a bigger package, with a movie at the mall and then a couple rounds at the arcade followed by dinner, all at the same place

Visiting famous places around the area was also a big thing back then, when landmarks around the college used to be our 'addas'. While it's still fairly common to find at least a couple students from your college around at any major site within a five kilometer radius, college students now prefer going for drives, usually without a destination in mind. The pleasure of just driving, stopping when hungry and mapping the route according to our wishes is unmatchable.

txt
rich_1495444133080

With all the ways in which college students bunk college has evolved, there is one thing that hasn't changed even a little.
