Human civilization began when the first tree was cut and will end when the last tree is cut.

The topic reminds me of the time when I visited my cousin's place at Vasant Kunj by a four-wheeler and to some extent, the condition of the environment startled me. To start with, there were literally no trees around us where we could park our car under the shade. Yes, you heard that right. The situation got worse when I looked around only to find sky-high buildings all around but hardly any trees to suffice an ecological balance. When finding a shade becomes so difficult, imagine the havoc that we have continually caused on our earth through pollution, deforestation and the list goes on.

Deforestation is increasing as a global concern. In the present years, deforestation has risen to dangerous levels. This is mainly because most people have no idea what deforestation is. This lack of education has caused many changes in the global economy.

Deforestation is clearing the forests or trees. Many people do not even know that this problem exists, although it may be occurring right in their own neighborhood. The causes and effects of deforestation on the environment are numerous. The reduction of forests disturbs the entire ecological cycle.

Forests are home to several plants and animals. When a forest is cut down, the complete cycle suffers. Forests act as carbon ‘’sinks’’. That is, they help to take in carbon, greenhouse gas and reduce its effect on the atmosphere. Also trees and plants in a forest help to supply an alternative source of fossil fuels. Trees planting is good for urban development. They help with heating and cooling costs to be lowered.

There is evidence from the UN-sponsored Inter-Governmental Panel on climate change(IPCC) that came out in 1980. This organization records the change of climate and has the best of programs working for the control. It is predicted that if our environment keeps releasing emissions as it is doing now, our annual temperature would increase at 0.3 degrees per decade over the next century. This is beyond what the earth has experienced over the past 10,000 years.

To get the normal levels back, trees which are often known as the backbone of survival, are absolutely necessary. Human beings need to understand that they are only cutting trees for their selfish motives which are leading to many ecological problems.

Bharthanatyam is a major form of Indian classical dance which originated in the state of Tamil nadu. Though it has been almost a decade since I left college, the career choices I made as an entrepreneur, starting a company that caters to colleges and students, it’s as if I never left college and I am happy to see how students have evolved over the years. A major difference that I see right now is how active students are in college as they don’t just stick to academics and instead, focus on a lot of things that build their own profile and their own personality in addition to bringing laurels to their colleges.

I was like that too in college and I write this now as the new academic year just started a week ago and I want to tell students how being heavily involved in college activities teaches you a lot of things that the classroom won’t and how it adds to both personal and professional growth. If I were to name one thing that I got out of being involved in various aspects of campus life, it is how I became completely fearless.

When you are a part of an organising team in college, it puts you in situations that sometimes are completely out of your control and it is entirely up to you whether you will swim or drown. You will learn how to solve problems and more specifically, how to approach a problem to solve it; whether it is something as inconsequential as a package not arriving on time or something big like having to pull something off with minimal funds and resources, getting sponsorships for various events and more. If I hadn’t done this, I don’t think I would have been able to successfully start and run a company.

It also teaches you crucial social skills that help you build your network with the right kind of individuals in addition to giving you crucial connections that last a lifetime, as the people you connect with as you work towards organising a college fest, are the ones who grow along with you and will definitely be useful contacts.

Apart from these, it also teaches you how to handle working in teams, with people with as varied mindsets as it can get. You will learn how to manage different people and how to extract work from them towards a common goal, regardless of the differences that exist between individuals. In short, it teaches you to be a leader.

The new academic year has just started, so take this year as an opportunity to learn and grow. Involve yourself in various activities in your college and start your journey towards becoming a leader.
"}]
Music is life. That’s why even our hearts have beats (lub-dub).The sound of the rain drops, the fluttering of leaves when a wind blows through it are the sounds which makes us feel pleasant. So music permeates nature and nature permeates music. A painter paints pictures on canvas but musicians paint their pictures on silence. Here is the story of my friend Hruthik,a musician, a 3rd year cse student of sri indu who loves to play and enjoy music.(He says it’s a kind of weed to him which makes him high ;))

His journey of music begins with a small gift, a guitar from his uncle and brother. An 8th standard guy who was curious about playing guitar which he recently get started finding ways to learn guitar. He collected some of the sample songs and started learning how to play them through YouTube. He’s brother’s friend who is a guitar teacher helped him learning basics. Slowly slowly he started finding enthusiasm and happiness in the strings of guitar. He used to play guitar in their family get together’s , their applauses’ made him more motivated .He gave himself more challenges and learned to play a wide range of chords.

After that he took a long break for two years when I asked him for the reason he says:”that’s the time of my +11 nd +12 when I’ve gone through the toughest phases of life .I had to go to Narayana jail daily …and u know how much pressure they keep on students...”

Later on when he started listening to the songs of Darshan Raval he became a huge fan of him and got inspired by his life. He started composing small tunes and he move on with the chords of guitar. He says:”My guitar is like my best friend. My guitar can get me through anything. If I can sit down and write an amazing song with my guitar about what’s going on in life, then that’s the greatest therapy for me.”
Now he is teaching a few little kids basic guitar, sharing his knowledge and experience with them.

Coming to his achievements he says:”The applause I heard, the pleasant smiling faces from the people who listened to my music, a little thanks from his students are the greatest achievements I had.”

Pranathi Kasarla, 19, is a student of SMEC who has been juggling with academics and her passion for clothing art, i.e, fashion designing since as early as her ninth grade.

As an adolescent of 13, she was inquisitive and explored her passion for art by creating new clothing designs on paper struggling to get it right, being an amateur at that.

Her obsession for designing started with a ditzy argument among a couple of students at school about how clothes MUST cost a fortune to look beautiful. She recollects how she was strongly against this statement and went on to get her own unique style of clothing at affordable prices, since she only had to show and explain her work to a tailor.

“My first real time design was a traditional half-saree that I had designed for myself in my 10th grade” says Pranathi who has never stopped designing since then. She had been a young seller on an online clothing store, showcasing her designs and earning through her passion while being just 16 by then. She has went on to offer her clothing designs to her friends and tells us that she designed for almost half of her class in her latter years of education.

Pranathi's favourite designers include Neeta Lulla and Manish Malhotra; she aspires to shine among them some day whilst aiming to provide luxury clothing at affordable prices. She believes in sticking to reasonable pricing when it comes to clothing. In her free time, she prefers going through IFA's work and jots down tips she could take from IFA and various other sources depending on their display pieces.

Not having the required monetary backup to let her designs reach the consumers through models, she turned into a model and marketed for her own clothing art. She’d faced a fair amount of opposition within her household to be able to pursue fashion designing as her major career path and thus split her interests into civil engineering as well.

“I have been happy with Civil Engineering as well, I am doing good in both ways though the pressure’s a bit high while juggling both” explains Pranathi about how Civil Engineering has also been a part of her. Pranathi helps her friends play dress-up when required and vows to never let her passion for designing leave her.

There are a couple of her designed clothes donned by her in the pictures linked with the article.

Yes, I am a girl and I talk like a girl, walk like a girl and cry like a girl. I'm not weak or ashamed of it. I am a girl and I meant to do things like a girl only but that doesn't make me any less. It's funny how you compare my gender to compare my capabilities and worth in society.

I have grown up listening to people saying me

"You are too skinny, eat."

"what are you wearing? You are too fat to wear that."

"You're wearing that?! Your clothing is distracting boys."

"You'd be soo much prettier if you wore makeup."

"You're wearing too much makeup. You look like a clown."

"You can't sit like that."

"Girls, they complain about anything and everything."

"Girls can't do that. That is a man's job."

"May I speak to the man of the house."

But I always asked myself that what made them say those things to me, what made them say my clothing is the distraction, what made them say I can't do a man's job, what made them think that I'm weak and can't be the man of my house.

And girls, its okay if you cant be another Priyanka Chopra or Mary Kom. You don't have to look good all the time. Just embrace yourself and try to discover your inner strength. You are not a liability, you are efficient enough to earn bread for you and your family too. Your clothing is not a distraction, their intentions are wrong.

"My art is a way to express myself" she says recollecting her journey with colors. Adepu Medha, a 2nd year CSE student of CMRCET loves to work with pencils and paints. She is our hidden gem. She has learnt the basics from 'How to draw books' and her school, but taught herself a lot of techniques.

A mother is one's first teacher, and it's her mother who introduced her to to drawing. "When I was in nursery, my mom wanted me to participate in a drawing competition, in which children from nursery to second grade participated. So she picked a simple picture, and she made me practice that same thing for weeks, like she was really patient, held my hand, monitored my every stroke and on the day of the competition, unexpectedly I won! It was an inter school competition. I was treated like a pseudo celebrity or something after winning the competition. I just got the hang of it and there had been no looking back since then" she says.

When she saw that all the older kids working way harder than she did, she realized that art is something which came naturally to her. She initially started off tracing cartoons on story books. She used to love telling her classmates that she drew it on her own she confesses. That gave her confidence she says.

Her love for the art grew with her she says. Her school played a great role in her story full of colors. Her art class was her favorite part of the week because she got to be the star of her class, she confesses. "I learnt pencil sketching, poster color painting, craft work, pottery, acrylic painting, glass painting, and all the other basic stuff one could think of..." a proud Silver Oakes, Bachupally alumni recollects. When she started drawing without tracing she loved drawing anime and other cartoon characters she recalls.

Later, gradually, she started pencil sketching. "I give myself new challenges all the time.My friends used to show me some amazing pictures, like their favorite scenery, or some complicatedly beautiful pictures, and they're like...now that you draw so well, how about this, let's see if you can do this and I immediately say I can do it!And I kinda face all the trouble afterwards trying my best to do it, teach myself, practice like hell, trying real hard not to make a fool out of myself, and that's how I get out of my comfort zone, for an introvert like me, and I have never failed to deliver what had been asked of me....so yeah....win win" she says.

She says, she personally enjoys sketching portraits, she says human faces fascinate her, especially those of women. They have excellent features she says. Her first portrait was that of Yami Goutham. She thought it was difficult, but she did it. And the 6th grader was over the moon. She started off with her eyes but could finish the entire portrait, it was a great deal for her.

When asked if art is just her hobby, or if she wants to make it her profession she says "Yeah, absolutely, it's my hobby, and I'd like to keep it that way, cause this shouldn't be earning you a living.... it's something that's supposed to satisfy your soul. It's something that brings you happiness every time you do it....and when i do it for others, I wanna see that awesome smile on their face, and how they could keep something hand made by me...it remains them of something nice, probably me sometimes."
