It is that time of the year when all the 12 standard students are just done with their exams and the hunt for best colleges has just begun. The task is slightly more hectic for commerce students because there are many universities in India offering the best courses in commerce with world class infrastructure. Factors like the admission rate, cut off for the colleges matter the most to shortlist the colleges.

Within a month the admission process for the top colleges will begin, therefore it is just the right time to sit down and prepare the list of colleges your going to apply to. Just make sure you categorize the colleges based on the following parameters and apply accordingly.

txt
rich_1489488455842

1. Reputation of Colleges:

When you move to post graduation what matters the most is the reputation of the college you are going to graduate from. An institution or University earns goodwill over a period of time, it does not happen overnight therefore to be considered as one the esteemed colleges in the country is not easy. So choose established colleges in the country keeping in view your other requirements like fee structure, cut off, geographical location. A degree from top Universities would eventually give you brownie points in your profile.

2. Quality of Academic Input:

The rankings and job prospects are inevitably important factors to rank the college, but what is primary is the quality of education the institution is known to impart to it's students. It is one time investment that you are making, because what you are going to learn is the impetus to your professional career. College life is something everyone cherishes for a long time in their life. A college can make its place into the best colleges list, only if it has good companies coming for campus recruitment. Let me be very clear with this right in the first line: I am not saying Arunabh Kumar is guilty, simply because it is not up to us to pronounce anyone guilty or not guilty, that is the job of the Judicial system, and should be left with them.

The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act was enforced on 9th December, 2013, which enables women to report instances of sexual harassment at their workplace, creating a system of redressal of complaints and also providing safeguards against false false or malicious complaints. Under the act, and from the pages of Wikipedia, the Act also covers concepts of 'quid pro quo harassment' and 'hostile work environment' as forms of sexual harassment if it occurs in connection with an act or behaviour of sexual harassment.

This means that a woman who files a sexual harassment complaint must be taken seriously and investigated internally via a committee, before proceeding further depending on the woman deciding to press charges or not.

Considering these rules and guidelines, one would be correct in raising a question about why, when an anonymous blog posted on Medium accusing TVF's founder Arunabh Kumar, the company itself released a statement instead of the man himself, and what a statement that was.

The above words are from TVF's official statement, which can be read by clicking here. As you can see, if you read the entire statement, the above lines sound more like a threat than an official statement. Instead of actually investigating the matter internally, this is what they chose to respond with.
Now, the reason I'm speaking about this at length because it highlights a deep rooted issue of sexual harassment and the lack of will to investigate the issues. It's funny how I myself being a kid whose favourite festival was holi is now afraid to step out of my house because I am afraid to be thrown colors (and comments and glances) at by groups of drunk boys.
Festivals have always been about celebration of life and energy and making it consensual will help in saving the true essence of any festival which is spreading happiness and not violation of anyone's boundaries. :)

txt
rich_1489249497570
Pets are a part of your family, understood.
You choose to make them a part of your celebrations, understood.
But many do not understand the grave effect which the celebrations might have on them.
Most dog owners feel that as long as they use dry colors on their pets, there’s no harm. This festival has always been about frolic and fun. Be it the day before exams when we decided to be rebellious or the day after when we were plain old freaks.

Every Holi has it's own colour, and shades that are remembered the most. Every year brings its own uncanny turn of events , that fade into co-incidence. The year when we finished our boards and wore our white uniforms to play holi was unprecedented. The years when the bucket count was reduced, and we had to divide the labour that carried the bucket and mixed colours into it.

So many years have been marked with uncompromising joy as the ones that cannot be topped over. But last year was different.

It was the year Holi surprised me with all it's colours and more. You see, Holi fell on my birthday. Amidst all the wishing followed by colour on my face and some in my teeth, I saw a memory unfold.

The 'middle' area between the two blocks became a battlefield. And the balconies, the attacking grounds, armed with water balloons and loaded with back up colours.

The emergency fire hose from the 2nd floor for only those with colour in their eyes and mouth was brought down more than often.

When the water balloons were exhausted, a new weapon was brought in. The tiny bucket with the pink water and the hidden eggs.

Fun soon transformed into escaping from massacre and being strategically caught between the enemies. The very first time when all the unwavering attention directed towards me, became unwanted.

The experience is surely unforgettable, and out appearance? Transcendental.
"}]
Being forced to consider only Science and scientific pursuits to make a living for yourself is not fun, I know, I've been there, trying to run after an engineering degree that was never meant to be. Instead I focused my energies into writing and here I am.

That being said, the point of this article is that there are amazing careers for students of Humanities, in fields that you only though were restricted to movies most of the times. How many times have you though about becoming a writer or an interpreter because you saw something in a movie or read about it in an article or novel somewhere?

Here are the top careers a humanities student can opt for

1. Writing

In the age of the internet, where people are more connected than ever, where stories told in one part of the world reaches the far corners, where there are many people with their own stories to share, content writing and subsequently, planning content and deciding the theme for writing in the future that reflects the quality of the website you work for is a lucrative career option. Plus, you get to hang out in coffee shops, order expensive coffee and work on your laptop. This is a profession that is fair to everyone, as in a democracy and a country of the future, everyone is entitled to an attorney for the trail, even criminals. This profession sees people are proven innocent or guilty, and does not assume guilt automatically. It is an amazing and rewarding profession, to see the children you teach today go on to become successful people in their lives tomorrow, and then coming back to see you, remembering you for your wise words and guidance. 5. Teachers

This one is a bit personal to me, because growing up and speaking to people around me has made me realise, when the conversation moves to the topic of schooling, that I did not have even a single teacher than influenced me when I was a child. I grew up teaching myself and disliking my teachers, because none of them took the effort to actually connect with the children they were teaching, and were often rude, even cruel.

Which is why this generation, you, who are reading this right now, who are a humanities student, you need to consider going into teaching because our children deserve better teachers. It is an amazing and rewarding profession, to see the children you teach today go on to become successful people in their lives tomorrow, and then coming back to see you, remembering you for your wise words and guidance. It is perhaps one of the greatest jobs a human can perform, to ensure children learn and not hate you.

"Bura na mano Holi hai” becomes bullies' favourite get away phrase in the week preceding the festival of Holi as they throw dry color, water and water balloons at people without their consent and run away.

Holi, despite being a festival marked by the spirit of fun and frolic, can be a nightmare for people who do not wish to be dumped color on because they might be headed on to some important work, have allergies or just not like it for that matter. whatever the reason may be, if one does not choose to be a part of this hysterical celebration in the name of festivities, it becomes difficult for them to even get out their homes.

Ever wondered why the girls who played holi as a kid stopped being a part of the festivities as they grew up? The biggest reason is their own safety. With all the "freedom" people assume to be entitled to on this day, it becomes an even worse day for women step out. Holi it seems gives people a license for a few days to grab you and touch the women while playing holi in a group. What worsens the situation is unlike other days, if women call for help, they will instead be considered a snob because considering it is Holi supposedly everything is ‘playful' even if it is groping. The festival raises a serious debate about consent. Why should the norms of consent change during the duration of the festival and harassment become something that is acceptable around the festival.

On taking offence on being touched without permission, women especially at workplaces and educational institutes are asked to "not spoil the fun". A large number of men go around drunk on streets and feel free to touch women (or anyone for that matter) to put color on them. women are subjected to this kind of "celebration" which is often accompanied by extreme sexualisation of the female body —the ‘fun’ of watching a woman’s body drenched with water and the overall pleasure of violation.

Indian families who have always believed in keeping their daughters "under control" to keep them safe instead of teaching their sons to behave themselves, ask their daughters to stay indoors on holi as it is "unsafe" outside.

Pets are a part of your family, understood.

You choose to make them a part of your celebrations, understood.

But many do not understand the grave effect which the celebrations might have on them.

Most dog owners feel that as long as they use dry colors on their pets, there’s no harm. But the truth is, the presence of lead, which acts as an accumulative poison, makes these colors a high-risk material for pets. Inhalation of colour powder may cause nasal irritation and possibly respiratory allergy or infection.

With the Holi festival just around the corner and excitement building, it’s important to prepare so that companion and stray animals aren’t harmed during the festivities. Here are the top actions to take to keep animals safe and healthy this Holi:

• Know the facts.

The powders that are used during the festival are made with synthetic colors which contain toxic metals or dyes that can cause skin allergies, rashes or even blindness in people and animals. Animals can easily inhale the powder, which can cause nasal irritation and respiratory allergies or infections. Animals who ingest it while grooming themselves can suffer from stomach ailments or other illnesses or even die. Drinking water colored by the powder can also cause hair loss and dermatitis in dogs.

• Keep animals indoors.

Getting hit with colored powder or water isn’t fun for animals, who don’t understand what is happening and don’t enjoy getting powder or water in their eyes and noses. This Holi, play it safe.

Do ensure however, that in either your love towards the street or pet animals you care for OR in your post-bhaang madness you don’t put the colourful, toxic, harmful, chemical laced powdered or liquid Holi colors onto the animals or birds.

You can wash the colors off, these animals and birds cannot do so, no matter how hard they try to.

Are you ready to run, chase, and jump and catch your loved ones to splash colours on them? Yeah its time for holi, from younger ones to elder people, poor to rich, it is the festival which develops social bonding in the society.

Holi, the festival of colours is usually celebrated on the full moon day falling in the month of phalguna. Like many other festivals holi is also celebrated for the victory of good over evil. (hiranyakasapa) .

But how come colours become part of holi??

According to mythology lord krisnha with his friends started playing holi by playing pranks on people in vrindhavan by splasing coloured water, also holi resembles the passionate love betwwen radha and krishna. Later on, Holi is celebrated by farmers with happiness that their dried fields are refilled by new crops. On this day farmers splash colours on each other.

Holi is basically a two day event. First day is the bonfire night which is known as "holika dahan " and followed by the second day where the colour fight takes place.

People in different parts of India celebrate holi differently in Mathura as "lathdar holi", in vrindhavan as "vasanthapanchami". Traditional colours are made with turmeric, neem, dhak, kumkum, tesu. Nowadays synthetic colours became popular which are harmful and sometimes causes skin allergy.

On this day people consume sweets like gujiya, jilebi, gulab jamun and even thandai with bhaang, an intoxicating ingredient made from cannabis leaves is mixed with milk gives you more energy to be a part of carnival of colours..

All most all competitive exams have multiple choice questions as a pattern to test the candidates. To be successful in this pattern along with being familiar with concepts, one needs to be aware of the time. It is all about time management. For all logical questions when your not sure about the answer, first eliminate all the possible wrong answers. When you have 1000 and -10 in your answer choices, both of them might not be the answer. Sometimes when solving the problem seems to be time-consuming, try substitution or reverse calculation. Often when answer choices are confusing like 1114 and 1141, students despite getting the correct answer mark the wrong answer and then regret committing such silly mistakes. The most important factor to crack these competitive exams is time management. It's a story as old as time itself, parents giving you pocket money but then you know for a fact that the money given to you won't be enough to last through a full day, let alone the entire month. So what, then, can you do when you know you need the money and just have your wits and your skills with you, while managing college and social life?

Throw away whatever social life you have and pick up a means to earn some money, of course. We're obviously joking, but on a serious note, listed below are some methods a student can use to earn money on their own.

1. Affiliate Marketing

This one doesn't even have to compromise your social life. All you need to do is be a real smooth talker and make friends with people who use online retailers like Amazon frequently, and you are set. Affiliate marketing is great, and can net you some serious cash if done right. How it works is, if a person buys a product they are looking for using the affiliate link you provide, you get a percentage of the price of the product bought. So, the bigger the product, the better money you make, and you can do that by sitting at home or hanging out with your friends.
